the final hour seal fact: kroshik is the cutest baikal seal from russia and his name translates to 'little crumb'. hes the silliest seal because he was super friendly with humans at the rescue organization. one day, they tried to release him and all he did was swim for a lil bit before he immediately came back to them. they kept him for another year, and then they tried releasing him again - but this didn't go any better than the first time. a few weeks after, they heard about a seal affectionately going up to tourists and they knew it was kroshik. he was such a friendly lil seal that they decided he would stay at their seal shelter to swim, roll over for tummy scritches, and eat fibsh all day (he canonly celebrates christmas and loves hugs) 🦭

seal fact 1: yuki chan is a super famous ring seal who lives in osaka squarium and shes also the oldest seal there! you might recognize her from a lot of seal memes/pictures but she usually sleeps with her neck tucked in to protect her from the cold. she even has a pillow created after her!

seal fact 2: harp seal pups are born without any fat at all and they rely on their seal moms to give them milk. seals have one of the highest fat content in their milk (50% of it is fat). when the pups weigh 80 lbs (36 kg) their moms stop nursing them 🦭

seal fact 3: agu and hiyori are two spotted seals at azarashi sea paradise (azarashi is the japanese word for seals!). agu turned 35 years old on may 6th and hiyori is 9 years old now. they love dressing up in silly seal costumes and posing for pictures, agu even loves holding a mini seal plushy that looks like him! 🦭

seal fact 4: hawaiian monk seals are an extremely endangered seal species with about 1400 seals left. one thing scientists have been noticing is that more and more young seals are getting eels stuck in their nose. they dont know why they do this but they think that the seal might have stuck its nose in coral reefs where it eats. the eels panicked and while trying to defend itself, got stuck in their nose 🦭

seal fact 5: millions of years ago, caspian seals would freely swim from the arctic ocean to the caspian sea. when the pathways eventually closed off over time, these seals would end up in the caspian sea. at one point in history there were almost 1.5 million seals, but this went down in the 1800s due to mass hunting. today there are about 104,000 caspian seals left in the world 🦭

seal fact 6: mizore is a sweet ring seal from osaka aquarium kaiyukan and he was born on april 1, 2021. he wasnt doing so well and he had hypothermia and low blood sugar, and he was also too little. he received intensive treatment by the seal team and in a month, he recovered very well and his fur changed from pure white to a brownish color 🦭

seal fact 7: niko is an adorable baikal seal who lives in toba aquarium and was born on february 22, 2020. his name (nico) translates to 'smile' in japanese and everyone loved him because his baby face looked like a human (he is also a famous meme). they can live up to 56 years old so i hope he has a long and silly seal life (p.s. he canonly cant read though) 🦭
