I did have a nightmare about the Wario Apparition once.

I was playing this newly released game for a Nintendo VR headset, a puzzle platformer in a desert/pyramids setting.

Toads were uncovering treasures in a pyramid, but Wario wanted the treasure for himself, so he had a plan to scare the Toads out. He ate a ghost spider mushroom and his head grew while the rest of his body shrank into a tiny tag dangling out the back of his floating head.

Each level, I had to move blocks around in VR to get to the exit--if I took too long, Wario would slowly float towards me, following me around. He would laugh and taunt me on his way closer and closer.

On one level I blundered the puzzle and Wario chased me into a corner where he floated right towards my face--he was about eight feet tall coming towards me, his laughing jaws ready to engulf me. I woke up right there, in a cold sweat.

I had a great dream last night!

A new Wario Land game had just dropped. An excerpt on the box said something along the lines of "Join the mean-spirited Wario on a quest through thirteen worlds to uncover the mystery of the Song of Depravity, while plundering ancient treasures and save Princess Bounce-Bounce from certain death... Of boredom!"

The big mechanic of the game was that with each world you conquer as Wario, you gain a verse of an ancient magical chant that's sinister and sin-glorifying, snd Wario supposedly channels it to power himself up. The more verses collected, the stronger his power boost.

I played a demo screen where he could punch, kick, shoulder bash, super dash, grab and throw, inhale coins, and FART ATTACK!

The aesthetics were kind of like Wario World, only slightly more real-world-ish, kind of like how Sonic '06 had the cartoony characters in a more real-world setting.

I'm so happy! I think I might draw whst I remember seeing in the dream. The box art and demos, particularly.

But Doddles is really good. I've found drawing him to be good for nurturing my mental health. I kinda hope he does the same for the viewers.

I wish I could find it, or someone could help me find it. I remember seeing... I think it was either a comic or an animation. Ralsei meets Kris and Susie, and as he's greeting them, there's arrows pointing to him for words like "Cute" "Naive" "Gentle" "Meek"...

And then comically, Susie and Kris loom over Ralsei, and the words "EXTREMELY BULLYABLE" point at Ralsei as they approach. It made me wheeze laughing!

I wanna find that cartoon wherever it ran off to, but what I'm saying is--I designed Doddles to have that duality to him as well. He's very sweet, which means his character can invite kindness, OR malice--it's part of the dynamic of the character in that way.

I'll see if I can't brainstorm more wonderful interactions with Doddles soon.
