If you revive during a "minion" phase of a bossfight, e.g. the boss moves off screen. Then the normal music for that stage plays instead of the boss music. This prevents the boss from returning even after you kill his minions.
Bosses as in not any of the core bosses.

I think it was a spider boss or one of the others that jumps out of screen to send minions at you
