Also I’m copy and pasting this that I posted in another discord to warn y’all of this beforehand:

Trying to upgrade gear with sea snails is not worth it the price if it’s past 2 stars. You’ll have to spend 5/10/20 snails for level 3-5. Which is pretty much wasting a bunch of splatfest snails. I’d highly recommend to just buy gear when it appears in the shop. While it is pricey, you can spend the snails on rerolling slots and it costs 1 snail! Plus you keep the chunks that you reroll!

However! If you have amiibo gear you want to level up then sadly the only way to increase star power is through Murch.

Just so you’re all are aware and hopefully min-max all the seashell snails you all got today!

-The absolutely broken hitboxes on weapons that are meant to shoot large projectiles (cough cough blasters but ESPECIALLY sloshing machine)

I once heard that the matchmaking (as in, connecting to other consoles and being in the training room lobby) uses actual dedicated servers but matches use peer 2 peer
But there is zero way Splatoon 3 uses dedicated servers with how many connection issues people are having

p2p when it comes to servers means peer 2 peer
usually games use servers dedicated to processing all of the information from players like their inputs (shooting, switching to squid form, throwing bombs...), their position...
because this is like a computer who's one and only function is transferring data between all of the players, it's more stable, but more expensive for the company making the game because they actually need to have some server infrastructure they have to pay for

now, in peer 2 peer, which i'll be using splatoon as an example, as soon as you join a match, is it turf war, anarchy, salmon run, etc. instead of there being a server to process all the information, the game picks a player in the match randomly to work as the "server"

this is very unstable for A LOT of reasons:

• If the host has a very bad connection every. single. person. in the match will suffer because of it and have to endure 3 or 5 minutes of lag
• Cheating is made way easier with this system
• If said player disconnects the whole match will lose connection for a couple of seconds until the game picks another random person to act as the server host again
• and more that i cant be bothered to remember right now

splatoon 3 doesn't really have dedicated servers for ACTUAL matches

instead, it uses servers (which you might've seen being referred to Nintendo's In-house server system or NPLN) that are used for matchmaking between multiple people that have a similar latency to make things not too laggy so that they can use p2p in the actual matches (which can still fail if someone has an inconsistent internet speed that goes frm fast to really freaking slow or if they don't find enough players with similar ping so they just throw random people into the match)

there's actually a couple of Salmon Run video's ive seen of someone disconnecting and then the person taking the video had a "The Connection is Unstable" message pop up for a couple of seconds before the server

Many of the new Lobby features take advantage of NPLN. They would be more difficult or impossible to add with the old system, NEX.
