I think the best way to improve is to focus on the bounty hunt event (that starts in a week and a half or so) and try to get gems from there

Sadly the best monsters in this game are locked behind 2 layers of gambling
Gamble in treasure cave to get tickets, use those tickets in conjuring for a chance to get architects/ancestors/revolutionaries

Be warned tho, their habitats cost 10m each

Whenever you get your first mythics, wait till you have 3m gold to hatch them so that you can get their habitats
