Cave has catered to a playstyle that directly contradicts the rest of the game's "slowly getting better" kind of gameplay. The addition of the cave destroyed the existing community and gave rose to toxicity and now this community that's full of nothing but brainrot and ragebait. The addition of the cave was terrible for the community and even if the devs start fixing this mistake, it will take years to gain back even a shred of the playerbase they've destroyed.

Allow less gambling-dependent ways to get ancestors (not great at first)
Nerf cave, buff the other way
Nerf cave, buff the other way
Nerf cave, buff the other way
Repeat until cave is worthless and the other way is a reliable, (mostly) f2p friendly way and eventually remove cave
It would have to be a very slow process and an instant change would definitely break what little playerbase this game has left, so I agree there
