The amount of rune slots each monster has is purely random, each egg has a different amount of rune slots. If you want an egg to have guaranteed 3 rune slots that's nigh impossible unless you do the no-wifi trick, which will cost you more gems than just unlocking the slots themselves. Reserved for when you need the monster instantly
