He has good stats, good skill set and those are what make him relevant. Uriel has good skills but trash stats but he can hold talents and that's why people still use him even though his main gimmicks are rezzing and cleansing you can take those away and he would still be the same as now. Same with Atum, who can actually do his job as a TANK
Monsters nowadays are as bland as it can be. Busted stats but their moves are as lame if not worse than an epic. That's why none of them even last 1 month and out of 1300 monsters, only 2% of them are slightly useable

That's fair enough, but I think Atum, Uriel and Goblazrd are exceptions. Atum being MT is enough for him to be used in early game, Goblazrd's stats arent terrible, and he can heal (healing is much more valuable early game) and cleanse for the team. Uriel can be a bit harder, but since stat gaps aren't as massive early game, his moves are enough to get him by I feel.

Atum has enough health at rank 5 to live relics (Early game relics aren't gonna be OP enough to oneshot him either). He has enough HP to survive Mater, and as for the attackers, it doesn't matter if he dies since if he just redirects 1 move, he's done enough for your controller + attacker to win

Actually sometimes mater does kill but dying to stop Mater is already good enough
