Gravedigger isn’t a monster, it’s a trait, so he must mean in general
For the main reason
His bio story doesn’t say hayman or the necromancer were there. It mentions them, but doesn’t say they were or weren’t there. Plus it mentions the necromancer had a accident and hayman was clumsy
So I see it as a cliffhanger on his bio
As for his statement, he says he saw the gravedigger, so he’s speaking from his prospective
