I dont think temples have anything to do with the weekly timed challenges. (Maybe they do, im not sure)
So during gold fever challenge you have to collect gold, and in growth spurt you have to feed monsters (you can breed pandakens and feed them then sell em if you are low on space) and the more you collect-feed the higher rank you get on the leaderboard and on basis of that you get the reward

It'll be worthwhile in the end as you have increased gold production for more habitats, and depending on what you have you could make actually decent changes to your GPM.

Anything unlevelled level it up for cheap ie level 1 to 10.

Take note of when GPM stops increasing.
