You don't do anything other than just setting up your defense team. When someone will be matched with your team if your team beats their monsters you will get 1 win.

That's why I said dropping to lower leagues would help.

You can go to multiplayer mode and check the battle log to see if your defense is getting any victories or not.

In multiplayer mode (except duels) you have two teams. One is attack team and other is your defense team. When you hit the fight button you (monsters on your attack team) are matched against someone's defense team. If you beat their monsters that person loses trophies and gets a defense loss. If their monsters beat your team they succeded in defending so it gives them trophies and a defense victory. What you have to do is put on a strong defense team who will be able to win against attacks. You need 10 victories from your defense team to finish that challenge.

If you have 50 gems you can upgrade hatchry to get an extra slot. And there is no fast way to get a legendary monster except building it. You can also get it from daily calendar rewards. Check your storage you might have it in there if you were logging into the game daily. If there isn't one you can get gold by doing dungeons, pvp battles, donating cells to teammates etc.
