The pkmn probably shouldn't have the black outlines honestly, it sticks out of line with the artstyle like a sore thumb in a bad way. Perhaps a darker shade out the base line color instead for their outlines to match the rest of the scenario

I tried to make it similar to actual pokemon sprites, where the outlines of them are just darker versions of the colour it is surrounding

Tho now I look an actual pokemon sprites it's mostly dark with some lighter outlines in certain areas

Many sprites have black sometimes but the lining is usually thinner than some areas unless it's gen 1 and 2 old sprites

Gen 3 and up were more darker shades over the sprites instead of black though

Like your professor for example, I think the darker shaded outlines would match what you have already better tbh

Like this for example for your fire Wooper, instead of bold black outlines I did a bit more shading with slightly darker than the base color outlines and this was the result.
