They're opposite elements. You can't breed earth and magic commons/mythics together. Same with Fire + Light, Nature + Thunder and Dark + Water

Eh, saying its spending gems to spend more gems is oversimplifying. Plenty of times having the jokers has made it so i'm able to breed anything at all, and then I don't have to spend to speed it up. Quests are a good example of that.

Ideally you'd have grabbed them from el colosal or something. But they're not the worst investment, especially if your legendary pool is limited
