how do you guys learn what makes a good monster or comp? dont wanna just ask someone to tell me what comp I should run, I'd rather learn/understand the meta but everything I can find online to read is outdated

It can take a good long time to know how to build a team but I can give you a small run down

[hidden coral]

1. Figure out the current defense META. This won't take too much time but it will still take a good amount of time, look through the top 100 and see what is the most popular defensive META.
2. Look at your roster and see what mons you have that could counter the META monsters. For example, since The Great Cathullu and Lumoona Iwas are a META threat you may want to have an MT tank like King Atum on your team or a mon with SC area Cooldown immunity.
3. Find your strongest attacker and see what they do. Actively read their skills and look through their traits and relics to get a good idea of what they are supposed to do and what they can't do reliably/at all. For example, if you pick Mouserk you know that it is a hard-hitting mon that ignores any form of Taunt so that gives you an idea of what type of support mons to pack.
4. Use supports that help the attacker out, If you pick an ET attacker for example then the support mons must have a way to deal with Anticipation.
5. Make sure every mon in that team does something for the team, We don't want to use a mon that will become a dead slot for a lot of battles so if you see that the mon isn't really helping then drop them and see if you can fit a different mon, It's not always possible but it can be a factor in team building.
6. Test multiple times, I personally say test a team out 50x to see what its advantages and its weaknesses are, this could help you further improve the team by slotting in a different mon to help fix a glaring issue. For example, if you pick Mouserk but find his damage lacking, you may want to bring a long a monster that can damage buff him like K911.
7. This is a big one, Do not expect a team to work 100% of the time, It is firmly impossible to make an unbeatable defense or offense team as RNG is a key factor in this game so while you have made what is essentially the best team you can make, that doesn't mean its unbeatable
