I have found a fix to that last month. Before i was also struggling to ever get coins from gold collects. Instead of collecting a few habitats, try and collect from one, then tap collect all. Wait a moment, then collect from another habitat again, sometimes need to pause and collect again. You will get 30 coins.

The only benefit from pass is easy overnight collections. Missing 1 collection per day and you have about 11.2k.
