as I've said, the browser sends pings to the server every second at all times for the ping display, so just tracking those and removing a player after something like 10 seconds of no pings really does not sound like all that big.
In fact, I know it is really possible because the game literally does this already with the idle disconnects after a few minutes of not spawning in.
Any other game that may have that issue at least lets the account join multiple times or kicks the old player when the same account joins again instead of blocking that new join, so would it at least be possible to do it like that too?

Actually World of Warcraft DOESNT let you rejoin after a disconnect (occasionally; depends on the disconnect)

so its an issue for larger studios with 6000 employees; we have like, 3 who work on Shell 😛

Not receiving a spawn request from a client and not receiving ANY pings from a client are totally different. I imagine that it’s not as simple as having a server remove a client after x amount of time without communication because at that point the client is not recognizing that the server has removed them (if the client can’t ping the server, the server can’t ping the client), which wouldn’t really solve anything

also the second part, if an outage of more than 10 seconds occurs, chances are pretty high the client ws already gave up and closed, which is the only reason this whole bug exists btw, or if not then the server's close will always get through to the client because that's how websockets work

even if it wouldn't close on client, the client would close automatically later after noticing that ws pings (different from ping packets) dont get a response

which should also happen on the server, but some ws server libraries don't do that, and since this bug exists im guessing the shell shockers servers use one of those

I don't get why you're all so against this, it is very much possible and pretty easy to do and would remove an annoying issue with no negative consequences. Just forward this to one of your three coders or tell them to read the channel directly and then let them evaluate, because I don't mean to be rude, but both of you really do not seem to know what you're talking about, and your "reasons" as to why it wouldn't work are obviously not valid, which you could've known yourself with a little bit of knowledge and maybe a google search

like open up the network log and look at the websocket there, it's obviously sending and receiving data every second even when doing nothing ingame, and it really does not take a master coder to know that you very much can detect when no data has been sent in a websocket for more than a few seconds

Its not that I'm against it; I just find it unlikely to happen. we mostly work to fix things that break the game for everyone, or easy fixes, and this issue doesn't break the game for everyone (only mildly cinonveniences people who have shoddy internet) and it likely isn't an easy fix (or else studios with way more devs and manpower likely would have fixed it).

That said, I also didn't say i wouldn't mention it to devs, but didn't want you to think that that meant it would definitely get fixed

Most important thing to note is that just because you meet requirements, doesn't mean you get it. I uploaded Shell vids for 3 years before reaching requirements, and even then, with solid views, I didn't get it for several months. I'm sure you WILL get it, but it never happens all in one day

If you switch team after despawning (not getting killed) with a streak, that streak will be reset on the scoreboard, but the progress to the next power up will not. So if you switch team on a 4ks for example, you will get a power up on the next kill in that new team, even though it's your first kill there, with the upgrade label even saying "x1 streak"

because there's a bug where you load a game too fast and it spawns you in with the main camera still hovering around the map. If you tab out then I think it starts the respawn timer automatically and then resets it when you actually despawn in-game

Yeah, if you switch teams without losing your streak, the game still keeps on counting your streak. For example, if you get a 10ks on one team and switch to the other team to get a 10ks on that team, the game will count your current killstreak as 20.

Correct; theres a 5 second "wait to spawn" and then theres a 2 second kill cam before that; if you pause during gameplay, you have to wait 2 seconds to despawn before the 5 seconds show, so you only really see the timer show 7 (I THINK it actually shows 2-1-5-4-3 etc) if you despawn during the post-death kill cam

Clicked Play too fast to spawn in usually; pressing Esc or Tab and then waiting a second after Play is ready should fix it, or if the Respawn menu was never there, just a refresh

Look it’s not a matter of more eggforcers needed. Sure in some parts like oce/sgp times a few more might be ok. But most cheaters have a mod panel that can help them get unbanned, most of them go right back to the same lobby under a different name or smthn to cheat again.
Like last week I had Arendi camp the same lobby just cause he would ban sm1 and the guy comes right back to hack again. Was free bans for Arendi.

hotkeys r basically like toggle keys so most scripts you press a key to turn aimbot on and then press the same key to turn aimbot off
its a bit like using the ctrl + c key to copy u press it, it does something for you quicker than you selecting what you want copied, right clicking then pressing copy.

possible fix for those experiencing issues on a mac: try changing your browsers flags (chrome://flags) and look for Choose ANGLE graphics backend and change the value from "Default" to "OpenGL" and if that doesnt work try firefox instead since it handles webgl differently

i could be wrong but from what i can tell the issue is tied to how browsers (especially chrome and safari on macos) handle hardware acceleration, noticeably when the browser defaults to using metal (apples graphics api) through angle, which can occasionally cause conflicts with how babylon.js renders parts of the game

if youre on a newer mac opengl is entirely emulated by the os anyway but the best test i can think of is actually just turning off hardware acceleration entirely real quick just to see if the cpu software renderer can even draw the canvas
if it works even at like 5 fps then its for sure a driver/api translation failure and not a bug with shell itself

or one last thing i can think of is just force the metal backend
instead of opengl in chrome://flags change ⁠"Choose ANGLE graphics backend⁠" directly to metal
if you are on a modern apple silicon mac (which im assuming you are) (M1/M2/M3)
opengl is heavily deprecated anyways and just emulated poorly
