A good beginner friendly "pew pew" loadout that is fairly cheap and competitive would be:
Marthon Swift + LeMat Pistol.
Dusters, Med-kit, chokes (if you play teams) & flare pistol.
x3 small regen & recovery shot.
That is around 559HD.
You put the LeMat to shotgun mode and never take it off that, it is just there to provide ammo for your Marathon and being a back up shotgun if people comes in close :)

Recovery Shot is expensive (140HD) but that good, but if you play solo or just don't think you get any value out of it bc you get downed and never back up, you can switch of a big vitality shot :)
EDIT: And for traits, when playing teams I would go Iron Eye, Resilence & Necromancer. Once again Necro might not be that good if you are playing with randoms, so feel free to swap it for something else, I'd recommend witness :)

High velo is better for sniping longer range as it increases the drop off range by 10-15 ish meters + higher velocity means less leading your shots, it does less damage in general though as a trade off.

He camps my friend's body for 8 minutes, and I have no way to approach, because my weapons are basically short range. Finall, when I've circled around to enter the compound, rather than fight me without an extreme advantage, he burns my friend and leaves. No reason to burn my friend, except to be a douche after camping.

And to balance the scales more in everyone elses favour low ping players get their data to the server quicker than you do, so in every single other scenario you are at a disadvantage. even in peeking. their peekers advantage is stronger than yours because they can get a shot to the server quicker than you can, that means that if they counter shoot based on you coming through the door, you might get a trade as a low ping player, but a high ping player on the defense never will.

The math on this has been done so many times in other games. its amazing to me its still a debate.
