The MTG comparison is apt as well, I used a comic complaining about it (from Cardboard-Crack) back during the peak of uncertainty about future collabs and how the door was open. It's been over a year since Ghost Face/Post Malone collabs without any sign that they want to do more so I think the divided playerbase may have been enough that they decided they don't want to do any further collabs. It could change at any point though, but at least it feels safer than it did in December 2024.

The first post Malone event really didn’t bring many more people in and had a lot of uproar from veterans of the game and then they decided to do it again

It’s the same shit as gunrunner being added in 3 separate events despite people despising it with a passion

It's the way development pipelines work, everything gets decided 6-9 months in advance and they build up multiple big decisions not knowing how each one in sequence will actually play out.
August 2024 was the huge Update 2.0, the effective relaunching of Hunt Showdown. It was the biggest thing they'd done since coming out of Early Access and it came alongside a free weekend that doubled the amount of players looking at the game. After that, they planned out that they would do Ghost Face and introduce Bounty Clash, and then cap off the year with the Murder Circus event, another big name and huge event alongside marketing at the Game Awards using Post Malone's name recognition. Each success could compound on the past and create a fair boost in popularity.

But then 2.0 had a litany of problems, 2.1 /2.2 had some questionable gameplay decisions (revive bolt and silencer overhaul) and the divisive collabs soured the whole period a degree, the boost in popularity became more of a stagnation. They couldn't immediately switch gears after 2.0 as most of this stuff was a month or two away from completion and if they stopped, there'd be no content to give out until March 2025. So they pushed forward, tried to handle the crisis, and took some blows in that time, promising to dedicate the next year to patching the game's health and winning trust back.

Taking them out of the game was a big win for Crytek, one of the first times they straight up went "Yeah this doesn't work" and totally removed something rather than try to patch it

first murder circus had nearly 5k more peak players than the event before and second murder circus was the first event besides the 2.0 update since mid 2023 that had more than 40k players

They did a good job of taking 2.0 on the chin and committing to doing better after it, Murder Circus 1 was the first time they patched a problematic addition (twice even, with shredder and blademancer) rather than let it ride through an event untouched..

I mean it was a thing, hunts had a lot of nroken stuff. one of the largest issues I saw with it, is lesser skilled team mates would get pigeon holed into running it from some, and thats just not a good design for hunt.

What Crytek needs to do is let the community decided what to add and change/remove base on good ideas by the community since were the first one who suffer when the update makes the game unplayable or unbalanced like that all ears card it give a significant advantage to any one who uses it
