Yup, I think that decision has to do with what they mentioned in their Crytek anniversary series, about how 2025 onwards was dedicated to winning back player trust. The backlash to Ghostface may have been unexpected by them (though by the metrics we have access to, it was definitely a financial success better than other DLCs), and they had no way to stop the coming Post Malone collab since it was already made to completion and just a month and a half away, but after that the skin production swerved hard back to western aesthetics, most noticably from Judgement of the Fool onwards.

I switched back to half shots because they apply faster

A few seconds saved can mean a lot in a fight

Barrels are an inch or less thick, walls are typically more.
Ultimately gunpowder barrels exploding when shot barely make sense anyway, the heat of a traveled bullet going through wood into black powder will scarcely be hot enough to reach the powder's ignition temperature.

Personally my loadout for tools and consumes are medkit, axe, flare, a trap of some kind/half regen, Full Stam, half vital, and hive bomb. It may not be meta but it works for me

I would take a pistol with low cycle time to cover for your sniper
