It'll take some getting used to since the up arrow was around for so long but the icons do make sense. Weak vits heal for half therefore you get a half full potion icon. Vit shots heal for full so the potion is full.
Weak regeneration shots heal you on a timer so it has the plus icon and a clock. Regen shots heal you on a longer timer so the up arrow next to the clock boosts it.
They've thought it through well enough, though perhaps stam shots and antidote shots could use a change now to be consistent with regen.

Its a 3 round burst weapon, but you can kinda single shot by hitting E for dark sight after the first bullet, takes practice and still uses all 3 bullets even if you only shoot once

Try to get used to all weapons so you'll start to learn them and know what you're fighting. I'd recommend Ranger/Infantry/Frontier. As for the second slot try out every pistol you can buy, maybe you'll fine one you like. You can also go a hand crossbow
