Each run has set dates, if you missed it, you missed it. The "Random item" rewards are each a random item from a "pool" of skins, so missing a date with "Random item" just means you will get less drops from the pool.

Instead of improving their placement where they are visible and balancing them individually instead of encouraging instakill combo traps, they decided to allow you to place traps in even more places including walls and such
