Challenges were nowhere near as hard as prestiging. People think that walking between a few checkpoints is anywhere near as time consuming as spending hundreds of hours playing the actual game. When I learned about challenges, I completed all 32 of them in less than a day

Completing them was different that getting all stars. Getting through the one obstacle course of hives, meatheads, and bear traps with no bleeding, damage, or poison was a bitch.
But it wasn't really useful for game skill.

What I find interesting is that it’s not even “players have gotten better” most of the time. A lot of the people that kill me are just random P2 3 stars who are great at aiming and nothing else. I’ll watch them hit the cleanest 2 tap on me and then take 50 damage to a Hive immediately after then get blown up by a grenade they didn’t hear sizzling in their ear

I didn't finish Hollow Knight either. Beautiful game, but I found the brutal difficulty not rewarding enough to continue. It's just a metroid-vania with more artistic merit than most. I can get good enough at it, but I wasn't interested.

Back then, the technology wasn't good enough for truly convincing FPS experiences, so they had to reinvent gameplay mechanics, and use good bots. BF 1 and 2 were unique games, that the developer through out the window when they revisited the series. They did the same thing with Xcom originally. After the backlash they returned to form... with success.

I didn't keep clips from last month of failed kills. After multiple attempts with the thing I just ditched it. I only really clip kills or things my friends want clipped.
