There is an interesting design space to have a weapon with a "wide" hurtbox for its shoots, as the blade is wider.

Scarce weapons, especially when you introduce them as scarce, is really dangerous for the game (dangerous is too fatalistic of a word, just cannot really word it better in my head rn).
We simple not getting the data quick enough if a weapon is problematic/bad/unfun/underpowered due to the nature of being rare to obtain.
Closest previous example I can think of is when Crytek gave Cenny dum dum the same event where you could be immune to bleed.
Few people intially saw the issue of Cenny dum dum and there were no valuable feedback given, but after the event it became more clear that dum dum on Cenny was a bad idea.

It's far easier to adapt to something you see frequently because it's in the scope of expectation, at least reasonably. Making it show up less is just a bandaid fix to the problem; shoveling it under the rug and hoping nobody steps on it.

Dum dum is annoying af, but bloodless shuts it down hard. You're more likely to take bloodless when dum dum is more frequent. Making it scarce on a specific gun just pushes that gun under the rug vs actually balancing it properly, for example.

And when you DO run into that weapon, it's more annoying because YOU don't have access to it and the chances of you having the counterplay is way less.

you can disable weapons, tools, and consumables individually

So if you want to swap to a gun you pick up, but not to tools or consumables you can set it that way

Yeah that was so annoying when they added it, becasue I use throwing axes almost every game and have a numpad mouse to quickly swap weapons. I don't want to switch back to my axes after I equipped my gun.
