To unlock weapons or do promotions, the game gives you a shuffled buch of missions you have to do in a linear order.
(Example: Elimination -> Egg Hunt -> Point Extraction).
But if your team-mates are also trying to unlock something/do a promotion, they might have their own set of missions they need to do.
So it usually end up that you and your friends are going "okay who's mission we gonna do first?" which means if you are 4 friends playing together and the luck is bad a single player can play a whole session without doing any meaningful progression.

I would prefer if hunt followed helldivers 2 method more, having previous battle passes accessible whenever you want. If you bought the battle pass you should be able to complete it at whatever pace you wanted. Buying a product then not actually getting the reward because you didn't have enough time feels bad, I can understand if the free portions go away (or gets locked behind buying the pass after the active event)
