That harvested energy can be used to create a boss or it can be used to create a wellspring.
The meathead is a fun example because it's actually more like the mother than the baby. Or like a perversion of the mother. A bloated, headless creature that spawns smaller little monsters from its belly.
Well you can’t say the Sculptor doesn’t have a sense of humor.
Hmm.
I just realized. The first Immolator was a preacher.
The transformation of a preacher into a charred husk that bring punishment of fire and brimstone upon its targets.
In a way the Immolator too is a perversion of the Priest whose job is to bring salvation not damnation.
The Hive also follows this trend as the Hives that bisect these poor women originate from within their wombs.
And in a perversion of motherhood from the womb spawns endless swarms of life in the form of poisonous wasps
Ahhh now we are talking
The implications of this are clear. The Sculptor: Is a Neckbeard Incel
Now this goes in some notes

It’s all coming together gentlemen.
The Sculptor is invading our realm because Lynch wouldn’t have sex with him.
And that’s why Lynch hates men.
Because she’s trying to finally murder her stalker and they’re dicking around over money and immortal life.
When the nether realm of Hunt starts looking more and more functionally like the warp from warhammer

He could be any one of us
Speak for yourself
Says the guy who sits in the lore channel all day 😳
I think we all know who the sculptor is rexli...
Well prowler the game is up. I tried to throw them off your tail but it’s no good.
They’ve found you out
Finally I am free free at last from my servitude the Prowler.
And I can stop going by Vincent.
assassin moment
Anyway returning to the names on the Reckoning Legendary Sparks. According to the flavor text of the Spite Finch was framed for the murder of his lover Elisa.
Assuming the Elwood is Elwood Finch it is safe to assume that Sarah Burton’s mother was the same Elisa that Finch was framed for killing.
The “Elsie” billet may also be made to kill the archaeologist, Elsie Austin
No the gun clearly states the name of the wan he was accused of killing was “Elisa.”
Hello, there gentlepeople. I'm new to the lore of this game, but fairly interested.
Sounds nice! Check the pinned post in here
The V. Caldwell mentioned in the named characters, isn't that Victor Caldwell? Or did you just abbreviate his name for simplicity?
Victor Caldwell
As I'm going through the named characters and pinned messages, do you guys not use the lore from the Armamentariis?
Nevermind, I see now.
So, after reading all of this, it seems like the reason behind all of this is the work of spirit bugs/bugs made by spirits that can mold flesh and has since made a Hivemind that is trying to prevent Hunters from killing the "Targets"/Bounties because they play a key purpose in the Hivemind's plan.
Do I have this right?
More or less
What the goal of the “Sculptor” is and what purpose it’s creations play in its goal is vauge.
The Butcher appears to be some kind of shock trooper, the spider exists to recycle/eliminate rouge monsters, and the assassin seems to serve the purpose of eliminating threats to the Sculpyor’s goals.
So who's Glanton?
I get he's a hunter, but the bit that says "Theft, mutilation, fratricide, cannibalism; nothing was beneath him, as it would turn out. It’s speculated that there was something more of the Sculptor in Glanton than in others."
Did he become something?
Ah man I love to see action in here
ngl i dont even know what the sculptor is
@sand socket a being from another dimension who's responsible for the monsters you see in the bayou
No one does
All we know is the sculptor is an entity that had the ability to corrupt humans so that they can become suitable hosts for demons using the power of the demon realm.
So, are Immolators the successful possession of these Grunts by demons?
Because it seems like all the other "Infected" have bugs that are rewriting/melding flesh
They seem like the only ones that don't follow the bug theme
Nah, I think immolators are some priest who got possessed or something and then got copy/pasted like the bosses. I think, I’d need a confirmation of that.
The first Immolator was a priest who was beaten to death by a group of hunters for unspecified reasons
I assume hunters any way because the story says he was killed by the Black Hand (a proto-mafia) the people of Louisiana blamed practically every crime that happened in the state on Italians and Italian gangs.
Anyway the origin of the immolator seems to further support my belief that strong negative emotions play a role in sculpting the marked and bosses.
So, I can get how the Assassin and Spider are copy pasted, but the Butcher was decorated by that taxidermist. so how is there multiple of them?
That's what the sculptor does, apparently
but dident the taxidermist make the butcher
so the sculptor would be the taxidermist
or is the taxidermist the sculptor
Not necessarily. As the taxidermist was a person who died, and the Sculptor is more of a spiritual entity.
So, considering the anatomy of the Assassin, is the explanation for how it turns into bugs magic or essentially hundreds of bugs in a trench coat?
How exactly the demons reconstitute isn’t known. I have two theories:
Infection theory and invasion theory.
Infection theory: the demonic infection only turns some humans into grunts. Suitable infected ineividuals are sculpted into hives, immolators, meatheads, armored.
In that same vein a suitable infected subject (subjects) is sculpted into a boss.
Invasion Theory: the marked and the bosses are not infected humans at all. Instead they’re sculpted from clay harvested from grunts. They’re created in the sculptor’s realm and then released into our realm creating rifts, clues, and wellsprings.
Has the lore doc been updated with the lore from custom ammo?
I don’t think so
We’ve been sacking off we have. We should have used the test server time to collect all of the custom ammo lore scraps to update both the wiki and the lore doc.
Damn, we should have had a excursion
Hind sight is 2020
You still had to unlock the custom ammo on test in order to read the entries though.
Why do you say this? I don't understand, what happenned?
I assume hes saying that there hasnt been enough lore
Ok thanks
I wish we got more than just like 2 entries per update
Lore for the Lore Gods
Winfield 73 Incendiary
I have no idea how to edit wikis so someone who does please add this entry for the Vandal
I have some lore bits from the custom ammo as well
I've got Winfield High Velocity, Winfield Incendiary, Nagant Officer Poison, Nagant Officer High Velocity, Caldwell Conversion Dumdum, Caldwell Conversion Full Metal Jacket, Romero 77 Starshell, Romero 77 Dragon Breath, Romero 77 Penny Shot, and Hand Crossbow Poison.
3 names on the bulllets
I'm more curious about the names that were in the two that have already been used
but couldn't read them 😛
and how is this related to game lore? 👀
I feel like thats also kind of the point of the uniform
Still, does it matter? It's not part of the lore so take it dm's if you wanna talk about it xD
this is true
Not pointed towards you btw! i was just putting it out there
no worries my friend
❤️
Would it be better to upload them here as screenshots or in text form?
Added the info on The Prodigal Daughter in the wiki
Don't think it matters, but at least add text to the screenshot so it can be easy to search for
And to be clear, are we talking about in this channel or some exterior thing I haven't been introduced to yet?
Hehe, this channel yes
Heya, looks like I missed this question, sorry for the late response. I would not recommend including more. We are dealing with a lot of applications - choose wisely. You can feel free to DM me on this topic if you want to ask more.
And while I'm here, I'll just casually drop this
https://open.spotify.com/album/6UB8mXwgpJwWOKHQnwovMG?si=WznijbeTRjaPxEtNHw3sQg
Can confirm, this is part of the lore
Amazing! Thanks
What's the mask of the prodigal daughter made of? Any speculation?
I'm saying a sheet of metal from a civil war cannon, cool af
Interesting idea
It seems like rough type of metal
I wanna know more about the death of her mother, Anna(?) Burton. Clearly the bullets are meant for the people behind it.
I'm also interested if the reasoning behind the mask is to fulfill what her mother worked as, a spy. If it's as simple as hide identity while hunting the people for her atonement.
Anna Burton is the daughter not the mother
Oh sorry my mistake
But in the lore it's stated "Many come to the Bayou to forget their past. But Sarah Burton came to confront it, bringing along a Caldwell, a Sparks LRR, and a hunger for revenge."?
I would think that Anna is her mother, as this is engraved upon the sparks
But maybe i was mistaken! I just got a little unsure now
Steam Bio for The Prodigal Daughter
"Many come to the Bayou to forget their past. But Sarah Burton came to confront it, bringing along a Caldwell, a Sparks LRR, and a hunger for revenge.
Burton’s mother had risked life and limb during the Civil War to pass information to the Union. After the war, her deeds were recognized and celebrated, and she received a uniform symbolic of that final victory. Through her death, that uniform was passed down to her daughter – alongside a dark legacy, mottled with betrayal, cruelty, and treachery.
The flowers still fresh on her mother’s grave, Burton set out for Louisiana, where she vowed to destroy those who had had a hand in her mother’s death. Through her handiwork with The Harbinger and The Reckoning, Burton became notorious in the bayou, allowing rumors to circulate that she was a veteran herself, ageless, reincarnated to channel a restless spirit of revenge."
I'm putting this here, cuz i updated the wiki
I stand corrected my bad
but that can't fit all the info from this lore into there
and to keep the wiki clean
it's better to have the same setup for all legendaries
Dude np ❤️ i was unsure as well
Hey, I don't want to flood the chat, so just let me know when I can post the screen shots as to not interrupt the conversation.
I think now is as good a time as any
No shoot! It can get a little messy in here. But i'm gonna update the files we have
So post what you can
RN: We have more than enough testimony on the Twins, the Salter place has been documented, and there’s something listed here as the Meathead sketched out by Black.
And then i can see if we can get a document on it as well, and get the mods to pin it for us
RN: I long considered The Phantom another creation by Hayden Collins. Yet, as so many other, eventually fate has shown its hand, in this case, the whole arm - and - a direct reference to the “Irish Woman”. The more cross references I discover, the more worried I become.
oops that's a bad screenshot
RN: Chambers’ attachment to his handgun was characteristic of many hunters. All they had, really, to rely on. It was the snake in the desert that did it, gave him a sense of luck, most likely. Shame only the gun turned up; it can’t answer many questions.
RN: We torched the jailhouse when we had taken what we needed, then returned to burn what was left. Another loose end that could have led someone down a trail that didn’t need following.
RN: The Victor Caldwell episode remains, to me, one of the stranger resolutions to Huff’s brief tenure. Was there a subtext in the urgency of their correspondence which believed something greater going on? What was it that triggered Victor’s turn in allegiance.
RN: No doubt, VC was just one of many recruited to the cause, though perhaps evidence of others was lost in the asylum fires. Fortunate that evidence of him remains, as it seems that his attack on the army was significant in itself.
RN: Ordinary farm boy turned monster, a story which was a dime a dozen and yet this one stuck out as a particularly monstrous transformation - one worthy of preservation. Preserved, but perhaps buried, in the dusty corner of some forgotten archive.
RN: It was once proposed to me that Lynch’s weapon may have been Glanton. A far-fetched theory, but one that arose out of the horror of his character, in order to try to rationalize it, fathomable. Just one of many, however.
RN: Theft, mutilation, fratricide, cannibalism; nothing was beneath him, as it would turn out. It’s speculated that there was something more of the Sculptor in Glanton than in others.
RN: The episode with the Teche Snake stands out as one of the most absurd. Did Fin really summon the spirit of an ancient indigenous snake? Was she really consumed whole? As experience has shown us, it is right to both treat the account as a fancy, a metaphor, an exaggeration, and as the gospel truth.
And that's all I have so far
the question is who is RN
Hmm
Or what. I think it may be a news article or some type of record keeping book
But it is in the first person so idk
I'm guessing its the researcher
Yeah same
so im guessing we are closer to a name for him
Remind me again who is Glanton?
Had some entries on the Romero and the assasin if i'm not mistaken
or atleast something connected with those two
In the Assassin: "Apparently, another hunter had seen the Assassin, by the name of Glanton. I found him out in the bayou, inhabiting an abandoned church, deep in the hunting grounds. He was dressed in black and had strung bones from his clothes, yet his face was youthful and plain. "
Ah wait yes he’s the man from the Romero
Yes
He’s also the first man to kill the Spider
He has 5 pages from his Journal
Ohhhh
He made the hatchet Romero
From what I've read
I’ll have to reread his lore
Hmm
I have a theory.
So in the Pax Lore its mentioned that the Serum is almost as Bad as the disease it cures.
And the notes for the Custom ammo imply that Granton carries the influence of the sculptor.
They’re not immunizing themselves by injecting any old demon’s blood into their veins.
They’re injecting the Sculptor’s blood into their veins.
Either that or the sculptor is the progenitor of the other demons and in injecting demon blood into their veins the hunters are inadvertently connected to the sculptor.
When you gaze into the abyss the abyss gazes back into you.
0_o
if that's true, everything's fucked beyond belief
If Lynch knew where to find the Sculptor she would have killed him unless Hayden Collins was wrong and her vendetta against the Sculptor was a ruse.
i've got a question of my own, though how much this has to do with lore is debatable. Anyone got the lyrics of this piece? https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_k62eJNsp1CFRV4ra-2HOjjEJEPPN3oSfM
brand new song with instrumental, uploaded just yesterday
yo a little help those who have all masteries
we're missing a few in the lore doc
pls post here or dm me the following:
mosin drum
bornheim match and extended
all martini
all springfield
winnie musket bayonet
and officer carabine deadeye
Normally I’d recommend looking at the wiki but since the incident with the Vandal Striker I no longer trust its accuracy
what happened with it
we really should update the wiki on the lore part
The Vandal Striker Mastery is wrong
It’s why I uploaded a screen shot of the Vandal Striker Mastery
f
i can try fixing it, if you give me the files. I've got some experience with the Wiki
Hey we’ve grown as disorganized and chaotic as the AHA during the Louvent
same
gimme the file bounty, boy, or Imma burn ya
Guess they really had a reason for being like that huh
also i found out what happened with all crossbow masteries, they merged if anyone was curious
good to hear
Nani?
there are several pages in one mastery now
So wait instead or just expanding the number of masteries they just added five pages to one mastery?
Well I suppose it will make it easier to keep track of
I think what I shall do over the summer is work at unlocking all of the masteries since I have no intention of prestiging ever.
nO inTeNtIoN oF PReStiEginG??' wHat a FukYn Ne0Wb AmrITre
Why would I ever prestige? To gain what I already have?
that and play against prestige 60 players I guess, idk who would want to do that tho
that p100 skin do be looking kinda dope though
i haven seen any tho
You all keep talking about this Wiki, is there a link somewhere or do you guys edit the actual Fandom wiki for this game?
I don’t know who edits it but I assume they’re on the discord
lyrics here: https://www.reddit.com/r/HuntShowdown/comments/map3wg/as_the_crow_flies_official_song_bullets_lullaby/
thanks m8
Hmm Hawthrone said the song is lore connected
Perhaps the lullaby is a metaphor for the seductive whispers of the sculptor.
yeah
you can take a hunter out of the bayou but you cant take the bayou out of the hunter
Especially since this song seems to be about either mercy killing a hunter that’s been lost
idk if wee had this already
First I'm seeing of it
Just based on the emotional reaction Thomas had to the story I don’t think it’s allegorical.
RN: Gruesome, too gruesome for any publisher. To what extent were these descriptions drawn from personal experience? It seems that nothing remains of his own journal — if Collins even kept one. No doubt such a journal would be a valuable find.
this is for pax incendiary
hol up, Fin's disfiguration was PHOTOGRAHPED?
Hmm that's an avenue for Lore that would be interesting to explore: Photographs
Sort of like what we saw with the Louisiana scrap book.
We could have photographs of groups of hunters, dissected monsters, etc. etc.
now that's hella interesting
There's some details in the new DLC that I found pretty interesting. The trailer on the DLC page ends with The Archaeologist (Elise Austin) and the Prodigal Daughter confronting each other. On the new Sparks skin, there's three bullets on the stock with names on them: Elise, Richard, and Elwood.
Elise definitely refers to the Archaeologist, but I couldn't find any legendary hunters named Richard or Elwood – maybe those names crop up in the lore entries?
Ohhhhh, that's a good connection there
bullets that wear names. nice
Good eye, I noticed the same and the video confirms their conflicting history
Nice to see some of these loose ended characters being tied up in confirmed lore
I knew the name Elise sounded familiar
As I’ve said many times before Elwood most definitely refers to Elwood Finch. Finch worked with Philip Huff Jones the head of the Asylum at Jackson, and head of the American Hunters Association before his assassination. Finch is the one who pays out the bounties Hunters bring in. And if we believe Haden Collins was killed by the Twins. Brining and end to both the Louisiana Event and the American Hunter’s Association.
A claim I find dubious because if the AHA went caput and brought an end to the Louisiana Event who is gathering and compiling this information and why?
I’m going to hazard a guess though the conflict between Huff and Colins was that Colins wanted to make the public aware of what was happening and Huff wanted to keep it under wraps lest they cause a panic.
interesting theories, I don't know much about the deeper lore in the game so unfortunately I don't have a lot to add
I remember reading the lore on the Twins though
any thoughts on who Richard could be? It's a bit of a generic name
Perhaps a new character?
One whose identity has yet to be revealed.
I have noticed though there’s a recurring reference to Hunters cutting put the hearts of other dead hunters. Popped up in the journal of Gratton, As Bad As They Seam, and the notes of Dr Winkler draw specific attention to the spherical heart of the grunt that laid in a pool of black bile.
Also I’ve noticed something. Collins included two gay characters in his works.
Jonas and Gator in The Devil You Know and Allison and Jos in As Bad As They Seam
It’s really subtle but it’s neat.
On a literary note Collins is really inconsistent with his characterization.
He describes Huffington as a power mad, self righteous man, but portrays him through the book as showing concern for the twins and mistrustful of Lynch.
Also it’s filled with errors.
It’s likely what we’re reading is a rough possibly first draft that was never published.
Wrong channel
I think you're just reading into that one
Do we know why she'd want to kill her though? It seems like a really personal grudge with the carving and everything
The Jonas one I’m pretty confident on because it jumps from talking about his lover to talking about his partner in such a way that implies they’re one and the same
I don't really agree, I think you're just reading subtext in. I don't think its impossible but a lot of the Hunter partners face death and monsters on a daily basis and it make sense that they'd be close, I just dont think that subtext is there from the story
Well I mean in the trailer for the Daughter it shows them facing off as well
So I dunno
I just saw it while in the menus and thought someone would find it interesting
Oh, no, totally agree that its there, just curious if we knew why or not. :)
possibly because Elise was Sarah's killer?
The Prodigal Daughter DLC contains: The Prodigal Daughter (Legendary Hunter), The Harbinger (Legendary Caldwell Pax), and The Reckoning (Legendary Sparks LRR).
Many come to the Bayou to forget their past. But Sarah Burton came to confront it, bringing along a Caldwell, a Sparks LRR, and a hunger for revenge.
Burton’s mother had risked life and...
Well the ending of this Explains this
yep
@devout cedar
But the trailer got released just now no?
Maybe it was visible on the steam page for longer
it was on steam last night
Just sifted through all the lore i currently have unlocked and no Richard sadly, I think that the plague dr may end up being Richard...
where is that from ?
This is from the scrapped Louisiana Scrap Book
Before the game went live the Scrap Book was the first book of Lore in the game.
At the official release it was removed as during release there had been a change in direction for the lore and the old Louisiana Event Scrapbook no longer fit with the current lore.
However some details have carried over and have been repurposed for the Lore.
The Sculptor, Lynch, and Victor Caldwell all first appeared in this book.
And my suspect that perhaps this Richard is Richard Ramsey.
The Louisiana Event Book can be found on the Wiki and its entries used to be found in the Lore Hardcore Section.
Oh damn good find, that could very well be the same Richard
Is the "bad as they seem" manuscript a 'true story' (in game ofc) or is it like some dime novel ingame fiction?
I only just read some of the lore so sorry if this question is kinda dumdum
Bad as they seem is a dime novel, hunt devs put the lore in a unreliable narrative, meaning you cant take anyones word as full on truth. The only one we can trust is the modern day researcher (the person who writes the excerpts at the beginning of most lore entries)
Bad as they seem was written by collins. Whos been known to be extravagant in his stories, while he claims theyre true we cant really trust them, we have narrowed down trustworthy sources like scognamillio and Harold black, unfortunately we dont know Whether Collins stories are fact? Or just that, stories.
Good stuff Bitter
@sinful trout but BATS is more fact than fiction, at least more than we thought
the lore devs made sure we got the message
I still think BATS is metaphoric fact as opposed to literal fact.
Something like the events described but not exactly as described.
For example Lynch killed Huff, she didn’t kill Huff as described in ABATS but she did kill Huff. And she killed him.
so Lynch and the Twins did some stuff, but the specifics are blurry
I am skeptical as to the characterization of Huff, Lynch, the Twins, and the Snake Spirit.
But I do believe Lynch was up to no good and that the Twins allied themselves with a snake spirit that appears hostile to Lynch. But how certain can we be that this snake spirit can be trusted?
I treat As Bad As They Seem as Hayden Collin’s interpretation of the events of 1895.
I only just decided to actually go through and read all the lore I spent so much time unlocking, and 2 discrepancies about Huff's death did stand out, but one was acknowledged in the game and the other could just be a timing thing.
Also there is potential for weird typos or mistakes. Seems weird that there's multiple references to the civil war still going on in the 70s, and the John Victor/John Voelkel thing.
So is Hunt: Showdown inspired off of something else?
Like is there a Hunt novel or comic
Just the lore
Ah. Do you find the lore around the map or do you have to go through the awful xp grinds to get it
It’s the anthropological concept of the true fiction, all recounts contrive facts whether they mean to or not, the account drifts further from the truth the more times separate parties recount it
W-what?
Look man I just wanna know..... is felis single
What bro she’s a goth cat girl
She's dating the bone doctor 1000% canon
at least in the fictional hunt sitcom
She's gay
works for me
She's gay is a weird description 😅
There is a guy working on a fan made Comic ( it's on #fanart )
and I have a project to create a Hunt graphic novel too
but i'll take some time, i just finish the first story board
noice, looking forward to that
happy, then, like we'll all be when Johnny comes marching home.
Where can I read this comic book?

Oh nice!
The guy said it wasn't ready yet, he's still working on it.
We have a doc with most of the lore but it was anandoned
Id like someone else to take up the mantle but no one has stepped forward
Ears and eyes open bois!
wait so new orleans was effected too?
Anyone know the in-lore cartridge of the Sparks we use so regularly? Since its real-life counterpart was chambered in many different calibers.
Did you guys catch that
What
Bomb lance was made by the boss, ye
Oh yeah
I need more info on ScrappieBeakers
Former Hunter maybe?
0.0
Dope, thanks!
This is odd, as lynch used the bomblance, and even contracted the twins to fix i
Hold on
Maybe it's the new boss themselves
I think that part is just about that specific bomb lance, not all of them in general
wrong channel
Can we get those messages removed
Get on that Scrapbeak lore hunt baby i need info
Is there a connection between me and the crows
Obviously we need the entries on scrapbeak before we can do anything, but we're in the process of dissecting that to see if its correlated in any way
choke bolt
RN: Idle speculation, but were others in the Hunter organization really happy with Huff's slapdash assembly of former asylum patients? Was VC really as uninitiated in our ways as he seems?
incendiary uppercut
Many years ago, in the days of the Tribe's strength, there was a huge and venomous snake. This snake was so large, and so long, that its size was not measured in feet, but in miles. This enormous snake had been an enemy of the Chitimacha for many years, because of its destruction to many of their ways of life. One day, the Chitimacha chief call...
This confirms collins' source
It also indicates this snake may not be an ally
Is there a place recommended where I could go to binge read all of the lore so far? Or is it a case of reading through this chat?
The wiki is mostly good
@cobalt stirrup https://docs.google.com/document/d/15Rb5ZTHorhSR4ReVsEGZKEQ4njrCo4JO18p7CcOzTe0/edit?usp=sharing
Binge away friend
Amazing! Thank you! Sorry I’m new to discord and hadn’t seen the pinned note, I’ll go binge this whole matches load
It’s 45-90
You sure?
Yeah I think the devs mentioned it a time or two
Okay, thanks
Hey everyone, did you all realise one of the Prodigal Daughter bullets has the name Elwood on it?
Was just thinking that her mother could have been Elisa
Her mother is either Elisa or Anna
the name on the bullet is Elise and that is the Archaeologist, you can see them facing off in the dlc trailer too
Thats why i thought about being Elisa, would make sense if her mother died in a hunt them
would also work with the name Prodigal Daughter
The rifle however has the name Anna on it, which seems to imply the Mother’s name is Anna
Oh,them my entire idea is out the window
Oh well
I'm still curious about the connection there though[
Perhaps Sarah has two mothers
Elise is the Archaeologist.
Archaeologist's name is Elise, and she is facing against the prodigial daughter in the video
I'm unsure who the other two are though.
Elwood is the guy who pays out the bounties
^
It’s Elwood finch for sure, the current head of the AHA
Elise is the Archeologist, Elwood is the head of AHA but who the hell is Richard?
hes richard.
I almost wonder if he’s the sniper guy that uses a Sparks himself
I might have to dig back into the entries a bit
yeah nvm i was mistaken
I was going through all the legendary skins and didnt see any mention of him.
And if Elwood is the head of the AHA and pays out bounties wouldnt it make it awkward when Sarah (PD) collects a payout?
The legendary skins don't match up exactly with lore. Like Blackcoat is dead, so he can't be hunting. Also some amount of hunt is taking place post huff death, when every faction split up, so maybe finch isn't the only one paying out anymore.
Well, Blackcoat could be dead, but also the whole story of the twins comes from an unpublished manuscript for a dime novel, and that it also has other pieces of incorrect information in it, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that Blackcoat's death was a mistake on the author's part
Author in universe, I mean, not the actual guy at Crytek who wrote the lore
I always considered events players see in game as non canon
Like a play through of super smash where any and possibly all characters can be in the same place at the same time
But that’s just my own head canon
this event is going to take the whole 18 days.... not cool
Wrong channel
There was actually confirmation where everything we play in the game is canon, obviously there are aspects thats purely mechanics but for the most part they tried to make everything canon
So I got a doot theory:
A cult of people have built effigies and done an incantation to summon ScrapBeak, the Hunting association have issued a bounty on this new menace.
Every hunter who has taken the bounty has either died to witnessed ScrapBeak vanish only to appear very soon after somewhere else int he bayou.
The Hunters association has also heard reports of fanatics building these effigies around the region and believe that they may be the source of ScrapBeaks ability to avoid the binding and banishing rituals.
The Hunters association has issued an immediate project to destroy as many effigies relating to this new demon in hopes that once enough are destroyed that their hunters will be able to successfully bind and banish ScrapBeak, currently the association advises that no hunters try to track ScrapBeak but to only observe where possible and destroy its effigies.
The association assured all hunters that there will be ample reward for assisting in the destruction of ScrapBeaks effigies.
That's really interesting, good job!
Ahhh very good. I like the way you think
I have an alternative theory: the effigies are meant to appease the Scrapbeak in hopes of keeping it away, and the Hunters without realizing it are attracting the creatures attention in destroying them.
Because in closing its rifts, killing its spies, and destroying its effigies we are “stealing” for it what rightfully belongs to it.
Thus once we’ve done 100,000,000 points worth of theft it’s going to decide to come and deal with us personally.
I don’t usually hang out at the lore page, but I was curious if ya’ll had any ideas as to the significance of the sacred relics in the event reliquaries. Is there a scrapbeak cult interested in the relics?
Nice, act one should be finished by Wednesday at the latest
I also question that. Why are crow skulls considered sacred Hunter artefacts? Or is it the fact that they're cursed that turns them into crow skulls?
It’s likely used as a pretty strong motif of death or just the fatalist attitude of most hunters
Is there a quick summary of the lore somewhere?
And is it possible to just learn it from MONSTRORVM?
And such.
I hope you don't have to surf wiki articles.
I got you, in the pinned posts you can find everything you need. Theres an intro to lore, a full document of all lore, bad as they seem book, etc
https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/10KfkuMrok00fRR6LE3iLUfhPrcLLF_IcNoMRfzHyIuc/edit?usp=sharing
This is a short introduction to the Hunt: Showdowns basic lore. The following information is mostly based on the wiki and the lore writers words. Everything in this presentation is factual. Remember to check out the other pinned documents in the lore channel, they’re very important. Introduction
But heres your intro
Can anyone tell me about the asylum which some texts are revering to?
I’m fairly certain it has some relation to Nichols prison, the asylum itself was where sheriff Hardin and Brewer conscripted a bunch of inmates
I’m fairly certain
The Asylum in Jackson was an Insane Asylum in Jackson Louisiana. It was a real Insane Asylum and still exists to this very day.
Philip Huff Jones was a real person and the son of reformer John Welch Jones. Who was superintendent of the asylum and reformed it to offer greater care for the patients of the asylum.
The Real Philip Huff Jones died in 1946 and John Welch Jones died in 1916.
ok thanks.. so its just a reverance for the real asylum?
Pretty much
I assume this has been already found? On top of lighthouse
That’s probably an easter egg to a game dev.
The Older Lore contained a lot of references to real historical figures or analogues of real historical figures.
While the Newer lore tends to focus on purely fictional individuals as opposed to fictionalized versions of historical figures.
ahh alright kinda new to this stuff. thanks mate
Dr John, Marie Laveau, PHJ, even Victor Caldwell is based on Caldwell Hart Colt who died in a yachting accident in 1894.
New tweet says “mr Burke” is this a name we’ve heard before?
Everybody talks around it. Don’t want to admit it. But you all know what’s out there.
I reckon anybody who chooses to go looking for it wants to die.```
the tweet
During the dev stream they said they would be dropping lore hints for the new boss over the duration of the event
Should do a sweep on the docs. I can do it this weekend
This is not an accurate description of the events that happened because Ada wasn’t pregnant
At least not with child. The hive in question erupts out of the uterus which is why the infection typically targets women.
Just tidy up a little get stuff straight so new and old alike can get more use of it again
Sounds good.
So question, one of my friends said their is a lore reason why we can only be in the map for 60 minutes. Im curious to why?
No specific reason but conventional wisdom is the less time you spend in a dead zone the better
Tier 3 hunters have skin lesions and the like, which could be due to extended exposure to the bayou
In some of the entries it implies hunters are in the dead zone for quite a while, like possibly days even
So I think it’s mostly for game play
That is a 100% accurate description. She gave a first hand account of a hive and she (ada shell) gave birth to a lunk of wood
But she didn’t give birth to a child.
Because she wasn’t pregnant. Her womb was host to parasitic wasps.
anyone wanna give me the short version of why there are monsters in the swamp?
big bad (sculptor) makes them come through / corrupts via rifts
interesting interesting
this covers the basics in a ppt
oh thanks
Does it say what exactly the rifts/clues are and how they function in connection to the outbreak?
clues and rifts are different things, pretty sure
rifts corrupt people and are how the sculptor can interact with our world
clues arent "portals" as such
but im no expert
Elisa (Dead) - Lover of Elwood Finch, according to Finch sound of her bones cracking haunt him to this point. Finch was accused of her murder
from the lore doc
maybe she's the one on the prodigal daughter's bullet?
@earnest jungle We had one room and a leaky roof all of us sleeping where we could. No happy memories there Only found out i was pregnant after we'd all been brought in to the asylum. Doctor told me. I told him well then Praise Jesus, cause I'm the Virgin Mary, and he shook his head. But I wasn't lying. I had never had relations. When they cut the baby out of me, I wasn't supposed to see, but I did. It was strange, and hard, and dead, like a piece of old, chewed up wood. Don't have any living children”
from her perspective it was a child
from the doctors perspective it was a child
From the perspective of a doped up, traumatized child under going a C-section.
@amber harbor doesnt the bullet say elise?
correct, unfortunately thats all we have
The simplest explanation is the most likely: either she was pregnant with a dead larvae baby monster or she was host to the parasitic wasp nest that we see in all Hives. The later makes fewer assumptions than the former
do we remember hannah kinney?
Kinney’s child had a father
the problem is. we can make assumptions
but we need to say theyre assumptions
otherwise people coming in immediately think its fact
I never said we couldn’t make assumptions
I said the conclusion that makes the fewest assumptions is often times the most likely explanation
so for the purpose of the lore doc we document factual findings
and if we have an assumption, its clearly marked
She allegedly was pregnant with a child
if you would like to update the char sheet to say its assumed the child is a wasp nest we see in hives im all for it
according to doctors and her, she was pregnant with a child
That is the factual finding not that she was with child
They said she was pregnant not that she was pregnant with a child
Only found out i was pregnant after we'd all been brought in to the asylum. Doctor told me.
as i said
if you want to update the doc
im all for it
but do not remove the factual findings of the writing
But with what: a child or a wasp nest
Yes, from two civilians who had never seen the Sculptor's influence.
Saying it was a child based off of two people's assumptions is a massive stretch
unfortunately thats what we have based on writing. if youd like to add a suggestion to the doc, feel free to leave a comment on it that i or any other members can approve
i didnt have the time when writing to go through every observation. just had time to put out factual findings. and most of that work was litteral transcribing. thats why im always looking for editors to the document
Isn’t most of the lore based off a stretch?
Like isn’t it all meant to be a bit extreme
?
Bird boss speculation
Crows like to hoard shiny objects
Metal is shiny.
The name scrap beak itself hints to metallic objects being relevant to the boss.
The description for the shrike skin for the new bomb lance skin alludes to the possibility of bird boss having a part in assembling the shrike pattern skin.
Bird boss has metal crutch like appendages for legs and is covered with metal objects on his back.
If the bird is indeed partially made of metal, I predict that it will have a resistance to slash based attacks and bullets.
You probably gotta dent it to death with blunt weapons
I speculate that the boss will attack with his arsenal or hoarded metal objects or weapons made from scrap metal
The bird wields an axe too, makes me think of the tomahawk perk
its all fun and games until he tomahawks a sledgehammer at you
everyone gangsta till the gramophones start flying
what do you mean I died to a flying bear trap
hmmm there are a lot of little birdnests in his boss hideout actually
we have been burning a lot of crows...
be a shame if they used a flock of crows as a weapon
caw caw 😡
Friendship ended with hive bomb, now friends with murder bomb
Seems reasonable. But in addition to Blunt melee, I think fire might be a weakness, at least for the fleshy bits on him. Just look at how his smaller cousins can get lit up.
and poison+explosives work as well on crows
I know, but fire is most widely available out in the bayou
Just like how you'd chuck lanterns at the Spider and Assassin.
ye
@icy locust to expand on your theory:
Shotguns are relatively easy to craft, what if he's an armorer (came up while talking about the Shrike skin, spitballing after the stream) and might even be using a primitive shotgun, inhibiting silent boss lair clearing?
Guys what if the RN in custom ammo entries is Researcher's Notes
Could be?
If you listen to the background music in the menu you can sometimes hear a train and crows, and looks like it has some connection to the new boss. The first thing that came to my mind when I heard the train was that his legs were cut off by the train which is kinda what happened to one of the characters in Steven King’s books. Just an assumption though
Also - there was a tweet yesterday with a message for Burke, turns out he was a real person, around 1890’s he stole some money from the treasury of New Orleans and had to flee the country afterwards
Who exactly is Hayden Collins and why does he know so much more about what's going on than the rest of the cast?
theory: Bullet's lullaby is sung by the crow...
evidence: none, but it sounds cool
spurned huntress shaped by the entity
If we get the chance to ask more questions to the creators, can we ask if the birds seen are ravens or crows? Because idk how I feel about killing ravens
menu says "burn crows" for poitns
Right, but the manual in game says that the black birds seen are ravens
Are they being temporarily replaced or were they secretly always crows?
maybe the sculpter is actually odin
Manual?
far right book
@full charm at the end of the day its a game. i dont know how i feel about killing people but in a game its fine
I understand, it's a joke because of my profile picture
It's cool dude
Didn't get time this weekend to update the docs. But i have vacation set of the coming week. Gonna get a update, clean up on some pinned post n stuff ❤️
Make it real nice
So
Do we know how long the paranormal stuff in the Bayou has been going on?
Part of me thinks at least 3 years. Like, the AHA and other organizations have maybe purposely kept this going for as long as the game has been live.
Maybe we're somehow keeping the Sculptor trapped there, or feeding it.
Is the story progressing though? My impression is the lore took place before and we're permanently in the year 1895
Like, what happens when a hunter dies.
1895 is at least when it starts
But its been confirmed that multiple hunts have happened. Each boss respawns
I dunno.
I think the answer lies in what exactly the bounty is and what it can be used for
I have a sneaking suspicion that it's used to make more Hunters
Is there any official lore about the soundtrack? I read somewhere the lyrics fit into the games lore
probably been posted before but you ever just like find a whole dead child
ye, several times
yep, I always thought those were just normal bodies that somehow bugged and had a smaller model
what 's the lore on Scrapbeak ?
ho ok
actually I don’t even know if it’s a he I’m just assuming
I mean he’s obviously a hoarder with the whole crow theme and trash monster
Most bosses and creatures are people that have been twisted and then replicated by the sculptors influence
Y do weird sisters’ fingers look like they bout to fall off at any given moment
The fuck happened to them?
Oi lads, do we have a documented file that states where exactly in the lore the sculptor is mentioned? Either references or directly referring to it.
By casebook you mean Louisiana incidents?
One of the first pieces of lore then. Will start checking there then, appreciated.
Oh no, I of course have researched it. Many many times. I was just asking in case I missed something.
The more I read, the more I believe these boiz are coming up with shit on the fly though.
Moreso no intention of cohesion than coming up with shit
That irritates me the most to be honest. One of the reasons I believe they are coming up with shit on the fly. A real shame as well. I really believe the game could've gotten more exposure with the lore.
Might get more skins though hurrah kappa.
Agreed. Me and caucasian tried to get some community event stuff off the ground and use it to push community written lore but it never got off the ground
Protestant vs catholic church intervention was the direction
mhmm I've never heard of this. But to be fair, I do live inside my own world. Wish I could've helped a bit there.
With community members picking a side and posting footage/pics of conflicts for rewards
Was doomed to fail, most community doesnt have any concept of the lore and doesnt care either
If the devs don't care, why should the community - Is what I like to remind every dev team and working person.
So I feel you when you say community doesn't care. Devs seem to be focusing on releasing paid after paid content and not the expansion of the content or game itself. No wonder It's population does not grow.
BUT, we've expanded to unrelated topics! Do let me know if there are any other works of lore as mentioned earlier though. It's nice when a community get's members such as you guys.
best game out but i have no clue wtf it is about lol
where can i find out info about this game
google probably lol
Check the pinned messages in this channel
@rotund ferry go to pins there's a google doc with all the compiled lore
Anybody totally picked apart the new song yet?
I believe the song is discussing revenge of some sort, coming from stanzas 9-12. We just need to who was involved, such as "A man with hallowed eyes."
Would definitely make sense.
the vacant stare could indicate them being a grunt maybe? Someone who found some person who did something bad, but the person was just a grunt at that point.
"Was gone these four years past, and when that man came back, those haunted hollow eyes, he sang the lullaby."
Sounds like a hunter who disappeared and returned as scrapbeak after years in the bayou
If the song directly relates to scrapbeak that is
"You'll pay for what you reap, when I come calling." Sounds like bounties might carry a deeper price
What do yall make out of the lines
"My friend, just close your eyes, and I'll be by your side."
If we are going with the idea of transformation, then is it a friend or partner succumbing to the plague? Or some other element?
I think its a metaphor for dying, the song is a bullets lullaby. Perhaps whoever the friends is turned and is essentially saying, 'hey just die and we can be together again'
"He sang the lullaby"
He was dead when he came back after 4 years
Maybe I'm digging too deep into it lol but the song definitely is hiding something
Symbology and metaphors is where I struggle at, though this song is a nasty one to decipher.
The Bullet’s Lullaby is a very clear euphemism for a mercy killing.
Bullet lullaby aside, I wonder how the scrapbeak was created. We have the spider as an amalgamation of corpses, the butcher made from the corpse of a meat head, and the assassin through unknown means(Probably transformation, how or from what is the question that needs to be asked)
Is there any official lore about the soundtrack? I read somewhere the lyrics fit into the games lore
That's kinda what had me picking apart the newest song
Yeah I tried picking it apart and I feel like it’s definitely about death and kinda joining their fallen friend. Idk I’m kinda dumb
But the other songs are interesting
so ive noticed how the tier 2 and tier 3 hunters seem to be just tier 1 hunters in new gear
Correct! @cyan bramble its to show the tramsformation these hunters undergo in their travels of the bayou. You can distinctly see some have skin discoloration and begin to wear more taboo things
@sinful trout if that is the case then which one is which , specifically this guy {image attached below} and does it have anything to do with letters found in fort (which kinda imply this one soldier dude decided to not go home, implying he became a hunter?)
Not all of them translate, meta thing not really lore related
This one in particular only has three t3 models
Helmeted, unhelmeted, female unhelmeted
would be nice to know their lore tho, ive they have even added any to the game
They likely do not
what do you think their tier 1 versions are
@cyan bramble sorry i misunderstood, some hunters have t1,t2 and t3 variants. Others are just t3, and unfortunately theres no lore on them.
ahh damn
hope they add some in the future
since they seem to be same dudes in different clothing
Like I said, some are, but that's just to show progression and the decay hunters experience
Less than 500k points to go…
Scrapbeak is prepared for Hunters to make a wrong move. The veteran soldier turned abomination is aware of what man is capable of & does everything to uneven the odds in their favor, tempting their victims to strategize early or never again.

Looooore
So Scrapbeak was made in 1863 and we're still in 1895
This trailer is the best
Yeah, it's really good
Interesting to find out if the Plague Doctor has something to do with the creation of Scrapbeak, as the hunter "creating" him, since it's him standing there
Well according to my eyes it is
It was really cool of them to make a whole animation for the actual battle for Fort.
And yeah, definitely the plague doctor helping in his creation.
But what's interesting is that with the plague doctor lore it says is that he is coming to help stem the spread occurring in the bayou. So if he is in the trailer then that means the '95 event is him coming back a second time.
Would also mean he's quite old at that point
Ah man this is gonna be a good update for the lore bois
About time we get some more lore tbh
Ill analyse it in a bit
The trailer really makes me wish that the entire lore was more visualised in the form of e.g. a short animation
Probably takes a lot of effort to make these
would be awesome if the devs made that themselves or provided a toolset for the CryEngine for example like the Source Filmmaker with all the current Hunt Assets so that fans can make lore videos
They have talented people such as Nixa for that
Also, from the looks of the trailer, there won't be any items near the boss lair. They make a few points of it from some shots. So, you'll either have to bring the melee weapons with you from another compound or beat him up enough
It's a very smart way of dealing with players immediately going for world melee weapons instead of risking gunshots
Ye
ok having watched the trailer I almost think bullet's lullaby is about the soldier that became the scrapbeak
I wonder who the other person is, if we have the "man with hollowed eyes" then we are left with the person singing the song.
the man with hollowed eyes has to be scrapbeak
idk maybe the singer is one of his friends or something
Could be anyone really, lover, soldier, partner, etc.
might not matter that much
I have zero sympathy for a confederate soldier
He Union lmao
No he's not
Its almost at 35 mill
lol
So some ofthe hunters are former union soldiers then?
no?
Cuz theres some still wearing uniforms
I'm sure some of them probably were
hunters come from all walks of life
Yeah ,
Definitely not all
close enough
Hardly
Idk it just seens like civil war is becoming more of a focused central plot point with daughter and now SB
i mean it's that era and the civil war was a huge event
man i wanted to go in blind but I had to watch the trailer
I doubt it’s a lover because of the line “my friend just close your eyes, and I’ll be by your side”
Well now we know how scrapbeak was created
He was a victim of civil war era Veteran’s Affairs
👀
IT IS OUT
Happy lore unlocking

So does anyone know the Plague Doc’s allegiance?
AHA?
Cuz seeing what he did to Scrapbeak makes me think he’s not a “good guy.”
We shall see when hes unlocked, and we get his bio
No good guys in hunt
1
I think he might be a bit of a free agent, being more focused on the pestilence aspect rather than actually destroying bosses
But that’s just my synthesis
So I’m pretty sure he created scrapbeak
How's that?
If you look carefully the doctor who performed the double amputation appears to be wearing similar gloves and an apron.
scrap beak is the double amputee
Don't know if thats been spotted yet
but looking at the above picture of scrapbeak, and the double amputee, they have the same prosthetics.
We do know however that scrapbeak was a hunter for a time, after his amputation but before his transformation into the Crow from the new bomblance legendary
I still think lynch had something to do with the final transformation of scrapbeak, just from the Bad as They Seem entries, but then again perhaps she has nothing to do with it
We know little about lynch in general, except for how she was as a child and her interactions with the twins.
And we can't forget that she's a wee bit of a physco
She does seem to have bird like powers, hence my theory
We’re not certain that the Scrapbeak was a hunter.
We assumed he was a hunter based on the song
But that assumption has been weakened by the revelation that the Scrapbeak is a Veteran of the Civil War
“You were gone these four years past” was assumed to be. Reference to someone going off to Hunt, but it also roughly lines up with the timeline of the American Civil War 1861-1865
The Scrapbeak was likely crippled during the Invasion of Louisiana in 1862 and spent the remainder of the war helping to occupy New Orleans.
And then sometime between 1862 and 1896 was transformed into the Scrapbeak
It does make sense that pre-transformation scrapbeak would undergo the surgeries discussed him his first lore entry, they just spiraled beyond what he was expecting
We’ll have to unlock more lore
I will say the date given for his injuries appear to be 1863
And the time elapse is 32 years before I’d assume his first sighting
I think that’s an oversight on thr Devs.
New Orleans was captured in 1862 and the official lore states that Fort Carmick was wrestled from Confederate Hands that same year
This can be hand waved by saying that Battle occurred at the end of 1862 and the beginning of 1863
True
Whos lynch
character from BATS
Lynch (known also as the Irish Woman) was a enigmatic hunter with super natural powers.
According to ABATS she had the power to jump between realms and summoned a monster similar to the Scrapbeak.
She had hand in the Death of Huff, and was connected to the New Orleans Voodoo Community
She’s a loa
Confirmed by end of abats and backed up by sadistic animalistic behavior
I just noticed that the guy standing next to scrapbeak when he has the metal legs put on (when he is human) is the plague doctor. If you pause at the right time you can see the sort of arm buckles that the plague doctor has. It also mentions in the lore page for Scrapbeak that his mask was grafted on to his face or something, So I think that either the plague doctor helped Scrapbeak become what he is, or turned him into that.
The Loa are not monsters
They’re powerful spirits neither malicious mor malevolent
And the only Irish Loa is Madam Bridget and Lynch’s personality and history does not line up with Madam Bridget’s
Last page of abats “exceptionally weak in this form” or something along those lines
Who's Madam Bridget?
Madam Bridget is a Loa of the Gede Family.
Competency with the true deck despite youth
Has a grudge against sculptor
All backing
I do not dispute Lynch is a powerful entity but calling her a Loa is inaccurate.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the plague doctor was involved
It could also just be any field doctor considering plague doctor is wearing the typical gear for that and they have a model already
It could possibly be the original doctors son/daughter
(The plague doctor hunter I mean)
"By scrapbeak themselves." Is that a typo on the developers half or is it something else?
Wdym?
It's just really weird wording, themselves sounds more plural than anything.
Description of the shrike that penhux posted
Eh, themselves can be singular and it was likely to conceal their identity before their background was released
Ya, it was kind of a stretch
Yeah I also have no idea what the significance of those pronouns are
Damn, time to comb through the documents again
Its likely from the point of view of someone who doesn't know who scrapbeak was and it's kinda hard to tell what they are post transformation
Feel bad for him
What a civil war does to a mf
Hmm
Perhaps what’s significant about the Scrapbeak is that this isn’t the first time he’s showed up. And that’s how everyone knows he’s out there but no one wants to admit it
Hmm
Perhaps a prototype by the entity?
A practice, hidden away while he worked on his more recent monsters?
Perhaps the answer lays in the role the ScrapBeak plays
The Spider exists to keep the other monsters in line.
The Assassin to eliminate hunters
The Butcher is a brutish shock trooper
So what is the ScrapBeak?
And why does it’s name buck the trend
My bet is he serves as a collector, or maybe a physical record of past infections
I think (because it’s earlier) it was the first of the bosses, or at least one of the first of the creatures that the entity made. Maybe it’s designed to lead monsters? Or maybe act as some kind of hoarder, taking away resources away from the hunters, starving them out, a battle of attrition.
🤔
Idk, I’m probably just overthinking it.
Where did we find this out? Is there a lore piece I’m missing?
Scognamiglio
In the last entry of the Spider he speculates that the Spider exists to track down and kill those creations/extensions of the Sculptor that go feral and can no longer be controlled.
The Assassin likewise exists as the name and its gameplay implies to kill hunters and other potential threats to the Sculptor.
As for the Butcher, well it can be assumed the Butcher specializes in brut force.
I think the analogy could be made that the sculptor and the infection to an extent functions externally as an organism, the assassin and spider acting as protective cells against external and internal threats respectively, and the butcher and lower level infected ensuring the expansion of the infection
But what function does scrapbeak serve?
Probably reinforcing/fortifying compounds, defending the infected and its expansion? With its supplies and razor wire it could work that way.
Has anyone unlocked the second mastery?
Probably, but those people likely aren't interested in lore 😐
maybe it hoards organic material that it finds, also taking hunters' stuff
The creature does appear to have both a severed leg and head in it's backpack
Maybe it scavenges matter to be sculpted
Scrapbeak might also be a creature that more or less willingly allied himself with the Sculptor, considering that unlike most boss banishes his body isn't pulled into the banish.
We might just be fighting one of mans creations with this one
Mans creations aided by the sculptor.
Though then again the same could likely be called with Vincent (the assassin)
Since Vincent is a good friend and drinking buddy of the Researcher iirc.
Loktar#2986
I have a question for ya'll. Would you agree that the Scrapbeak is far more human looking that the other bosses?
The butcher is pallid and bloody, the assassin a desiccated beetle infested corpse, and the spider is a dozen corpses twisted and broken into a spider like body.
But the Scrapbeak?
At a distance the Scrapbeak can be mistaken for a person in ways the other monsters cannot
Perhaps that is what makes the beast more unnerving, it so unmistakably human. To the point where the fact that it's beak is in fact part of it's head is not obvious.
When all of his feathers and his collections fall away, he definitely just looks like a large bodied human
I think we have much to learn about our beaked friend and i hope the monstrorvm helps us piece together what purpose he serves in the greater scheme of the sculptor
also as a new player I love the Monstrorvm, it truly adds a lot of depth to the game imo and i really enjoy reading the new parts as i unlock them
I have a feeling that the sculptor saved the soldier by turning him into scrapbeak-
Or maybe the soldier didn't need help, but saw the Horrors of humanity during the war. So he might have Struck a deal with the sculptor
Was the sculptor around during the war? Biding its time? choosing subjects to turn into its monsters?
if the person operating on scrapbeak was under the control or IS the sculptor then its quite possible its been around for a long time
ur mom has been around for a long time
there is some evidence that could support this, as I'm pretty sure, in one of the bunk beds in fort carmick, there's a drawing of a hell hound
I think the scrapbeak hates people so much from his time in war so he's just joining the other side
So wait, were there monsters before the event then?
we don't really know for sure, regarding monsters in Lousiana before the event. However, it has been confirmed that previous events have taken place world-wide, though not on the scale as the one in game.
So Scrapbeak is a human thats lost his humanity and has joined the enemy to enact his rage
reading all of this is super interesting
yeah this game has a massive rabbit hole of hidden lore
I cant wait to get into all of it
got the game 2 days ago and im loving it already
Oh this is a great time to get into the game
me too man its truly super exciting reading all the stuff
reminds me of when I discovered the lore after picking the game up
Im glad I got this game with the new surge of players, I wont be getting shit on each round now
im rusty as hell, a new wave of crouch walkers will be a good introduction back
Im curious if they'll ever make an event Themed arround the sculptor. It sounds like it could be a comic horror, or something like the devil.
Maybe it was lured in by the war
I cant see them adding the sculptor as a monster, but maybe we could start to see its physcial manifestation, assuming it has one
Not As a monster, I don't think they'd ever do that.
But I mean theres a lot I could imagine. Like a pve Event where you have to close the Rifts to prevent Monsters from spawning in
Legends say in 1896, everyone fell asleep for 2 hours, that can explain the server outage?
I'm just v e r y curious what the sculptor is
@haughty vector yes. Even hunters need sleep
could be a malevolent entity or just a mad man whos somehow managed to create these monstrosities
I dont think its a human. Or maybe it was a human- it's taken Inspiration from humans afterall
Im wondering if the sculptor would be something very lovecraftian, with looking upon it driving someone insane
like a cthulu type being hmmm interesting
something so unfathomable its presence would drive hunters mad
Exactly
Yeah that's my headcanon, a cosmic horror lured in by the war
Maybe it drove certain people to certain Actions.
Like the Taxidermist that created the butcher
Perhaps thats how it chooses where to infect places
places of great suffering or blood shed
then why would it choose Louisiana
But then the question is, how long has it been there?
@harsh ruin because of the Civil war
yeah but the civil war engulfed most of the country why this one specific area its intriguing
@harsh ruin by the way, id recommend reading the lore on the Wiki. While unlocking it is satisfying it takes a g e s
Good question- honestly I want to learn about the other places that had been infected
Maybe it would give a little insight
Maybe it dosent choose. Maybe it manifests in a random location.
Lads this may sound ignorant but i have seen people mention some of the legendary hunters and that they are dead and i might have missed somethings while i was reading the lore but i never saw anything talking about a specific legendary hunter dying
Perhaps the devs can't be bothered having any originality and are content to piggy back off a recent pop-culture phenomenon while also utilising an existing set of AI / ambience within the game.
Nothing 'cosmic' about that.
The blurb on the event page is particularly revealing.
yeah what are you talking about lol
Please explain what you mean.
good point mate lol
Im looking through some butcher lore. It looks like the butcher, like the sawbeak, was atleast partly made by a person.
does that mean that all meatheads were made by people
No the meat heads were made from the scultptor
but a taxidermist who may of been under the influence of the sculptor came across a meat head and tried to preserve its body. Said taxidermist made many additions.
like the flaming hood and the pig head
Black coat is very dead
Yeah, like those two things
Good god theres a lot of you new fellows. Check pinned messages, dig through all of that stuff then come back, a lot of your questions and hypothesis are discussed there
Easy rundown is the lore is separated into three parts, in game, ABATS, and everything else.
In game is archetypical events that happen every hunt, the basic synopsis of what is going down without any context, and with some dramatization.
ABATS is “As Bad As They Seem” and is the only real storyline we have, dealing with tangential events involving a few important characters
Lastly is everything else, tidbits and hints that build context and connections between the lore
I thought the Devs clarified back in the QnA that the “every game is the same hunt as told by a different person” interpretation wasn’t cannon?
Old q&a was old lore iirc. And how the hell is it the same hunt with a wide variety of different bosses and two different locations at 4 times of day
Theres also documentation that theres multiple spiders, so its possible for muleiple of other bosses to exsist. So multiple hunts is possible.
the prodigal daughter is the daughter of the crow and the new song is about her mothers death
It would be nice if we knew the name of the soldier turned scrapbeak
Billy Crowface
my head canon is barnabus
because thats what i call the tier 2 in the union outfit
what is the name of the guy who is responsible for the whole undead/invasion thing? The architect, The curator, what was his name again?
or at least what was he called
Sculptor
thanks, Diiba
what if the letters in Fort are Scrapbeak's?
Interesting idea, time to comb through the docs
Late to the party but I just saw the Scrapbeak reveal trailer: As the camera moves along the Union Soldier to his leg prosthesis we see someones shadow standing in front of the table. That is the plague doctor isn't it?
i dont think it would be, since he comes later in the story
it must be the "sculptor"
intressting. Thought I could spot the leather straps from the plague docotrs gloves and that bottle he wears on the right back of his belt
maybe they used the same model for convenience's sake
Martini explosive ammo
RN: Jim Trevors wormed his way into everything. We thought him once to be no more than an arms dealer, but his association with The Night, the Salter brothers, and the AHA point to higher personal stakes. Most unnervingly for us is perhaps how little we really understand of his influence.
is Jim Trevors the nightseer?
it must be the "sculptor"
@grizzled fractal but doesnt the monstroum say that its probably not sculptor
It's prolly some unnamed doctor and they just used plague doctor's model instead of making a second doctor model for only one use
Other than that, the guy who they mention surgically attaching the mask we have no leads on
I’m pretty sure it was the same model, but maybe (because of the timing) it’s the plague doctors father?
Dont know if theres something known about the plague doctors age, but couldn't it be him? In the trailer between the creation of scrapbeak and hunter (us) figthing him is a time skip of 32 years.
which makes the siege of Fort Carmick set in 1863
The prosthetics that the solider got are really bizarre, doesn't fit any of the typical material nor design of the civil war Era.
Most were constructed out of a mix of leather, wood, and metal Knicks and the use of metal as braces and to provide structure
While the soldiers prosthetics are mostly metal construction, with crude construction.
definitely not a person
I don't know if this was already asked, but was the life of William Chester Minor an influence on the Hunt: Showdown lore?
most likely not lol but i mean in a possession sense, like a person being used as a host for this being or entity
We don't even know what exactly the sculptor is, if it has a host, or if we can even comprehend whatever it is.
There was such a theory a while ago, I forgot the name of the guy who created it, but if I remember correctly an insignificant boy in the lore is a host
Could be a personification to some entity that is not there, but rather something to more easily explain or blame for what is happening in the swamp
Yes, I seem to remember that too. And it was well thought out
is this being only able to take from the living, using them as the building blocks for these amalgamations of flesh like the spider and the meathead, maybe it really is just death itself tired of human suffering and impunity, I doubt we'll ever truly know, works better for the story tellers to leave the big parts up to interpretation
Does anyone have the third part of the lore yet? For banishing 15 scrapbeaks
I don’t think so. In As Bad As They Seem the Twins journey into the Butcher’s lair and are given by the Lord of the Dead weapons capable of killing the Sculptor for completing his trials. A house divided against itself cannot stand. If the Lord of the Dead were allied with the Sculptor he would not have aided them.
thats a fair point, maybe the sculptor is the polar opposite of death, while death ushers the souls of the dead into the after life the sculptor defiles them and twists them into this horrid abominations and death does not like that
It is unlikely any ruler of the dead would approve of what the sculptor is doing. Everyone becomes a citizen of the Land of the Dead eventually given enough time. And the Sculptor is twisting the dead into his puppets, making them hosts for demons and the spreaders of pestilence.
to death, death is sacred just as much as life is sacred to us, defiling that and tormenting these souls is something death does not agree with, sure the bodies of the dead may not be as important but i feel like death is bothered by the sculptors work as much as the hunters are, but simply does not have the ability to stop them
"As Bad As They Seem" - where i can find this?
The hunt wiki has all of the entries
Bad As They Seem is an undated manuscript from the author Hayden Collins. Pages of the manuscript are broken up across the weapon masteries found within the Liber De Armamentariis. Each section title corresponds to the necessary weapon and mastery tier required to unlock the entry.
The characters, in order of appearance, are listed below:
- Jos...
thx sir
I could have sworn it was “As Bad As They Seem” but nope it’s “Bad As They Seem”
how many events like the one in the bayou have taken place world wide? and why did it get so bad in Louisiana instead of other places, or are we still in the dark about most of that
In the dark. Likely been happening since ~1300’s maybe longer
Faustian revolution and all
But contact has existed sort of forever
There are reports of similar incidents in the past, but nothing as extreme as what we're seeing in Louisana.
True true
Again Loa refer to a very specific entity and I don’t think it’s a term that is an appropriate name to describe the creatures we’re encountering.
Im using it as an all encompassing term for the extraterrestrials
With djinn referencing alien physical form and alien soul
But yeah these are not agreed upon definitions
I understand that but Loa and Djin refer to specific entities so I think a more general term might be better
malevolent entity is more of a term i would use
the curious thing is to what end is this being playing at, there has to be a purpose of the events, it doesnt seem like an invasion maybe just a curiosity and this is its only way of producing life but who knows
Mirror theory
There are several theories as to what the Sculptor wants or is up to. Mirror theory is one of them one I disagree with.
Isnt gaining ground over years, maybe souls?
Cyclical processes like this that consistently result in lost assets
So clearly that would be the objective or a sacrifice
If 3rd map drops and is new york then a lot more arguments could be made
But until then im hoping they wont contradict the q&a
The main flaw of the Mirror theory is that it doesn’t actually explain why the Sculptor isn’t expanding out of the Bayou. There is only a limited amount of biomass and souls to be found in the Bayou.
Thats because the corruption cant expand beyond the rift
And the rift is naturally forming
Otherwise we wouldnt be in bumfuck nowhere
Off the coast of a major city is immensely more defensible and opportune
thats fair, so the sculptor is using this flowing energy to create these beings, but is it possible that the rift could open more and just spill out an immense amount of energy
seems like quite the predicament, and killing these bosses seems like little more than culling if more will just shuffle into its place
