What’s the guesstimate for how much a hunter makes per token? (Adjusted to USD)
This is going to be a lore/gameplay split as we have next to zero lore references for the value of a token to extrapolate from. It can't really be said to have any lore ramifications as the devs never intended to use in-game prices to tell a story.
A single token is worth between 1500-2400 Hunt Dollars (500 each for a trio or 2400 for a solo). We'll stick to the low end and use 1500 Hunt Dollars to make the math easier later.
From there, we can try to find the value of a Hunt Dollar. It's obviously not equal to USD, nobody was buying a Winchester for $75 in 1896. So what were they buying it for? We'll stick to consumer-grade American guns only to avoid potential price differences caused by smuggling or military surplus, and stay in the middle of the road of gun balance for the sake of avoiding the price changes that come with strong/weak weapons.
A Colt Single Action Army sold for around $20-25, a Winchester 1876 sold for around $27-35, and a Winchester 1887 Shotgun for $25. To throw an example of foreign/long ammo in for completeness, It'd cost around £4 ($20) for a Martini-Henry.
Pax Exchange Rate: $1 = 3.4 HD
Centennial Rate: $1 = 5.2 HD
Terminus Rate: $1 = 9.2 HD
Martini-Henry Rate: $1=6.1 HD
So that gives us a range of a bounty token being worth 163 - 441 USD, leaning towards 250-400 (Terminus Levering probably buffs the price a smidge, throwing off the ratio).
Other guns have similar ratios. A Specter is 1:4.1, a New Army is around 1:4.5, a Ranger 73 is around 1:3.7, and a Springfield 1866 is around 1:5.
So with all those numbers (excluding Terminus), 1:4.5 is about the average, suggesting a price of $333 USD per token, or $111 given out to each person in a trio. That's $12,849 per token in today's USD.
no wonder the greed won
i mean i would too
dont get me wrong
its never mentioned but i wonder if the hunt dollars are some type of company scrip or just meant to be a stand in for usd at the time
we have reference to blood bonds on a newpaper clip i think
Idk, going into a monster infested hellscape and having a gun battle with 9 other people for $4283 probably isn't the best math, which is why Hunters tend to be psychotic or desperate.
you also get cool occult powers and some form of malignant magic soul cancer
cant forget that
i would also bet that this is another case of the gameplay not matching lore
people were paying out for grunts and hellhounds or even just their parts
before the aha fell
I figure that part is also covered in the Hunt dollars given out for collecting clues
and outside of whatever "gentlemens" agreement the AHA does theres nothing stopping more or less people from heading into the zone at any given time
Bro actually did the math
Survey time
What if the sculptor isn’t a physical entity the way we think it might be, I’m beginning to think it doesn’t actually take the shape of a human. What if the infection wasn’t made by the sculptor, what if the infection IS the sculptor, it’s a sentient disease that is able to pick and choose who to infect, when, and how.
That's a pretty valid theory, oftentimes the corruption itself is considered the 'influence of the sculptor' and as its basically a cosmic horror from our understanding it could well be that the sculptor is the connective tissue between each instance of its corruption.
where in the lore can we find an article specifically mentioning the sculptor or things about him
The first mention was in the Louisiana Incident files, mentioning "A sculptor" though that specific lore is likely no longer canon.
The entity's information is kind of all over the place rather than having an article that you can be directed to. Tide of Desolation has the most concrete focus on its nature but it's also so wrapped up in craziness that it's hard to decipher.
CTRL+F 'sculptor' in the compendium will get you every instance it's mentioned.
thanks
i mean were killing his envoys in theory it should weaken to a point of not exbanding further or so the theory says
Realistically speaking, sculptor is a name that must have been given by some character in the world. Did the researcher coin the name, or did it come from somewhere else? Do we even know where it comes from?
In old lore sculptors were a class of entity
Now, I’m sure someone named it but I don’t recall the first mention
The Pellela note in the OG Louisiana Incident papers is the first mention from our perspective, though it's no longer canon. I'll go check to see if there's someone else that points towards an origin
The other earliest uses of the term:
-Dev Q&A confirming that the Sculptor is the main antagonistic force and giving a few details on it
-Spider Mastery 5, the name is listed by John Victor alongside other possible identities like the Devil or the Lord of the Flies
-Book of Weapons, the Nagant Silencer mastery and Crossbow mastery use the name as if it's common knowledge
In general they treat it like it's not a new discovery that gets classified in 1894, but something that's just somehow known to the AHA and that knowledge spread through the Hunters as they came aboard.
I read that as “Paella” and was like “Oo”
Okay yeah, probably some entity or force that's either known or widely believed to exist by societies that deal with the occult, I guess.
This was around the same time people assumed there were multiple sculptors, but looking back I don't think that was intentional.
Anyone else get the vibes "the sculptor" might be quite similiar to "the entity" from dead by daylight? No physical form per say, creates its own playground of horrors and then sets the actors on the loose.
i mean similar things like the bayou were happening in china i think
Yeah, there was also an incident in New York and another someplace else that was mentioned in the old description of one of the light the shadow hunters.
The incident mentioned in China is tied to Zhuge Liu so it's seemingly still canon material.
Although it'd be a little difficult to believe that a singular entity is responsible for all these different incidents and incursions so the multiple sculptor idea could still be plausible in my opinion.
Especially when you consider the fact that the sculptor is actually limited by the zones of incursion. It's why New Orleans is apparently fine when other parts of Louisiana are out here looking like night of the living dead.
at least theres us hunters tiring the sculptor down by killing it eminsaris
i think thats the plan either way we get to shoot stuff
It doesn't really matter how many things we kill because one the sculptor's abilities is copy and pasting the same targets we've already hunted before, but like I said the Sculptor isn't all powerful because it's limited to singular areas.
my theory that us killing the targets is what slowing it down i mean it has to rebuild them every time
and the thousends of dead grunts hounds and meatheads
Time is relative and might work differently for the sculptor. For every hellhound or armored we kill the sculptor might've replaced it with 10 or 20 more.
then we need to build the nuke early
Well, we've already got what is akin to the Huot rifle, Howell rifle, and Flamethrower in the year 1896 so splitting the atom a few years early doesn't seem totally unreal.
with any luck we are the biggest thorn in the sculptor side
The sculptor cannot keep up with us
I don’t know much but I know that
Humanity is the marble. What could a sculptor do without marble? Just stonework? Valid. But hale
We are the muse
Without us, the Sculptor would be like the Joker without Batman
so pure chaos i suppose so
Do you guys think any of the monsters kiss
Scrapbeak, Butcher, Assassin, Rotjaw, and Hellborn cannot kiss. Spider, surprisingly, can.
For the other monsters, only Hives, Grunts, and MAYBE Armoreds can kiss, but they're busy with eating flesh.
waterdevils gives a lot of little kisses
So that's where they get their nickname from

Bringing up the nuke in context of incursion handling is an angle I am not comfortable with. I really don't want to think the nuke was used to stop incursions in los alamos, japan, on the bikini atoll, russia etc. just because the AHA failed
That's some CoD WW2 Zombies nonsense and we already have enough of that Habsburg chin in Hunt's DNA
i mean the world lived on after 1896 so i guess we won without a nuke
Tbf Rotjaw can kiss, but it's more like chomping than kissing.
I can give her a kiss on the top of her little head
No lips with smooching ability, doesn't count. She can nuzzle at best
Same problem with the Brute
After really thinking about it, I wonder if "lack of ability to kiss" is a core pillar of horror design. It's very, very prevalent.
crytek help this is what a year and a half of no lore has gotten us
you gotta return a narrative to us
we're on the "a life without the ability to give your homies a goodnight kiss is the true horror" stage of things
Maybe one day we'll get a "kiss the ai" emote or something.
But I'd imagine kissing rotting corpses is unwise. Especially when those rotting corpses are snarled up on barbed wire, smoldering with embers, or surrounded by poisonous insects.

oh cool not super relevant to hunt but it seems like hayali's voice actor is voicing an upcoming overwatch hero
you love to see it
I'm curious if any of the other voice actors have done anything else
feels like the biggest potential role one of them has taken
(it's not 100% confirmed he's emre yet but it sounded like him and he's followed by the lead narrative designer for OW on twitter)
That’s awesome
His work as Hayali in SE was incredible
Heck I even liked Marshall Brewer and the Researcher’s vibes
I see this as an absolute win
All good work for sure, but part of me wishes whoever voiced Mountain man in the Hellborn trailer got to do more work as him during the event.
god same
I wish we got more voice acting man, they really casted just the perfect people for the roles
the story challenge stories feel like they would have been ripe for voice acting
I'm (possibly hopelessly) optimistic that the game's narrative will see noticeable improvement in the near future.
These new story challenges have some good potential for interesting things. Imagine if they were fully narrated as well?
It wouldn't be the same as the event stories, but at least it's something
yeah
The Acquired taste story was nice to read. I wasn't really fond of the Midwinter one, but I also didn't expect much from it because it was just going to be more murder circus shenanigans anyways.
Favorite VA from the events/trailers? Hard for me to choose one they all have rocked
I'm really looking forward to whatever this year of the horse hunter story will be about.
Same here
How he came to reach the United States, what his motives are, if he has any association with Zhuge Liu or any of the other Chinese hunters.
Horse Thieves always tend to be notable to me
Hopefully all my questions about him will be answered. Also the fact that he's apparently a movie reference makes me like him more.
But I'm also a sucker for the Asian hunters. I don't think the game has a single Asian hunter I'm not a fan of.
I share in your hope , Mister V
Cleaver. Love his thick accent.
not sure whats going on but what your favorite hunt song or music
Bite the Bullet 2
Make Them Bleed
Death is a Bird Flying
Marked for Death
Buried at Sea
Auld Lang Syne
you call it madness is one of the top three for me
Marked for Death and Make Them Bleed are my favorites
Drowning Water and Auld Lang Syne
An Acquired Taste 🎶
amogus
An Acquired Taste, Auld Lang Syne
My two immediate goats
All great listening
Light the Match, Poison Curse , Dark is Rising
Some more favorites
From the recent Album, Kiss the Ring is a standout to this feller
Rabbit Down the Mine
I like ´´Rabbit in the mine´´ as well ⛏️ 🐰 i find it one of the scariest songs along with ´´Devil in the Churchyard´´ and ´´Drowning Water´´
´´Dark in New Orleans´´ and ´´Rise up dead man´´ i find most motivational.
make them bleed, follow me to hell, drowning water
you call it madness is also good
dark is rising my beloved
It's got a really haunting melody, I used to love when it was the lobby screen theme
It goes very well with the horror aspect of Hunt. Hearing ´´ Drowning Water´´ probably coloured my first experience with the game. I hope the secrets of Kingsnake Mine will be explored with a small map update.
I can't believe they didn't have Miners lament in the Vinyl 💔
Sadness
Hell I forgot about this one, it’s my og fav D:
I also like Evening Sun, but unfortunately there still isn't an instrumental for it.
At least not one that I can find
Are all the hunt records gone? I can only find some scalpers I restored an old ass record player and can't find any for a good price
I reckon so. Is a shame , I didn’t get my hands on it either
Damm one day I'm just gonna buy the multi set when they drop again
so favorit compound anyone
There’s so many good ones!
Lawson Station , Darrin Shipyard, Lower Desalle, Deadfall Timber
Alice Farm is decent as well
I even like Scupper Lake! Haha that may be my unpopular take
Blanchett Graves
Kingsnake! Lol
Blackthorn & La Plata
Cypress & Catfish
Arden & Weeping Stone Mill
What happened to Scrapbeak’s son after he became scrapbeak?
ScrapPeep
Scrapgone
Game of Skill is coming on Feb 10th.
I see that he's holding something in his off hand, do you think that's a katana or a machete? The axe in the background also looks off but maybe it's nothing.
he looks good
another skin It hink would be improved by not having a mask but he's good
It's a pretty tolerable mask, yeah
It seems like something a guy who wants to hide his face would actually wear at the time, though maybe with some eyeholes instead considering he's a mosin user
I do like the pun going on with the mask so I think it's fairly clever, plus I can't blame them for doing something that the cn community reqeusted w it
if they requested it I'm glad they did it
Whatever he's holding in the off hand almost looks too small to be a katana or machete. Maybe a knife, heavy knife or even throwing axes perhaps?
Agreed, the blade immediately made me think knife
The Hunter looks incredible though, really solid design philosophy
I even like the mask. Man aims with his faith more than his sight
The axe could be regular , but it could potentially be a new axe skin!
Would be cool, love the immortal axeman /heavy melee paired with main weapon combo
Well this hunter clearly blind challenge character maybe
Bird box: 1896
Daredevil reference
I mean the cloth on his face I figure that leaves him blind thuse he can only hunt by ear and touch a true challenge
A few of our hunters are some form of blind
The prescient blinded herself during a ritual
The old bruja lady is blind from presumably age
And a solid half of our hunters probably can’t see well out of their assorted skulls/masks/hoods/
Being able to see: ❌
Being able to aura farm:✅
It's Asian Dare Devil
Looks like a traditional Chinese sword
Could be a skin for a machete/heavy knife
Found this image, so it does seem to be a sword of the cosplay is to be believed
Is that not the tanto skin for the knife ?
No, the Tanto skin has black Hinerimaki wrapped on the hilt. Game of Skill hunter clearly has something with a plain white hilt—likely some kind of Jian dagger or something related.
Honestly, whatever he's got in his offhand could be anything. It could be a machete skin, knife skin, heavy knife skin, etc. I'm more of an expert on things that are Japanese, not Chinese, so I really don't know what it could be.
This cosplay was most likely tailored by crytek since it's from a crytek event that took place in november in ChongQing.
Same weapon
Imagine if it was a completely new weapon. Something like a full length Changdao.
It'd be akin to something like the Katana, but a Changdao is more comparable to something like the Odachi.
Very nice find. If they intend for it to properly be a double-edged Chinese sword, then perhaps it's a saber skin similar to Corvus.
it's been awhile since we've had a saber skin right?
Last one added was December 2021, ye
damn
Did we ever get any sort of confirmation if The Kid was based on Billy the Kid or The Kid from blood meridian? I always supposed the answer was both, but his description and hand wound lines up much more with the book, though of course he looks like billy the kid.
There's nothing definitive which is why it's so open to interpretation. He DOES look similar to a 2017 film appearance of Billy the Kid, and his poncho, bloody handkerchief over the hand, and barfight trailer does have some similarities to Blood Meridian - which had a definitive reference around the same time The Kid dropped with The Turncoat - but there's nothing concrete to point to.
The one thing we could say cleanly is that he exists as an archetype of The Kid Gunslinger.
I like the kid shame he turned to drowned
He ́s still around at least.
I disagree. It's important that the characters you're trying to establish are developing alongside the story that's being told. Kid and Rat being Drowned was just part of the character development and in my opinion it made for a much better narrative to see some of these hunters we were already familiar with die.
That's also part of what made the event stories so enjoyable is that we'd get to read and listen about these events unfolding. Getting to know what happens to some of those hunters was a substantial part of the intrigue.
death is cool until it's characters I like then they should retcon it
Amen
I mean they kinda did that with one of my favourites so
Unless you don’t count drowned kid as retcon’ed but I feel like that’s on a person to person basis
I don't think that's a retcon when it was a planned story for him
Good way of looking at it
they had to die in order to be reanimated as water zombies
It was really cool when it came out I thought it made for some sick skins
I was just happy my boy was getting some love
Was a little shocked they didn’t make the rest of the traitors moon cast a bigger part
I thought it would have been fitting considering that moon was the first of the moons and tide of desolation was the last of the tides
I forever hold onto the copium that infernal pact wasn't actively described as dead
they're probably not
There's a lot of skins in this event that mention the infernal pact so maybe they'll make a return at some point.
Helmsman is still alive and well iirc, and I don't really think there can be any additional Drowned beyond the 4 we had.
Helmsman might have gotten ripped in half
But he’ll probably have survived to be recolored at some point haha
Maybe, but I was under the impression he ran away like a coward when he saw a reanimated rat appear before him again. Although, the description of the Depth Marker skin for the waxed dynamite implies she used it to "blow him away into the depths from which she came."
helmsman would've been one of my mains if not for his weird helmet, idk what type of protection it's supposed to give
I think I read somewhere that it’s protection for his head from Rotjaw. 🐊
I mean like maybe if she tries to bite the sides
but the back is just leather straps
if she bites back there all he's done is put himself through a nice waffle iron for her
is there not a codex or bestiary or w/e in game
used to be
they removed it for whatever reason
but you can find it on cryteks website iirc
i'll read thru the docs everyone's posted but sometimes it's nice to read on things you discover as you discover them
the pins in ths channel I think have every loer thing
lore
then cryteks website is your goto
poopy pants
between rotjaw or hellborn whos more anoying
Hellboy
rotjaw for me personally because sometimes she will just do her charge attack like 10 times in a row making getting hits way more annoying. She also has a chance of doing the attack directly ontop of you making it seemingly impossible to not get hit.
hotjaw is fine imo if you have chokes
If you’re under pressure both suck, however rotjaw, I think is less annoying than the bigolator
Hellborn if you don't have something to instant kill him simply because of his shadow side steps
I can almost hear Hellborn laughing at me when he sidesteps my shots.
RJ doesn't murder my healthbars
HJ does
Having a team come at me with RJ is fine- I can leave water and she isn't a threat
HJ is a threat until you put him down
I got into a spawn fight in trios with 2 other teams and the bigolator at gasworks, it was mass chaos
I want to say the bigolator actually made his way into the compound chasing a team that ran in that way, then proceeded to aggro on everyone in the vicinity until finally he’d taken enough shots to be put down
10/10 fight tho
Just spear spam hellborne and he’s easy
I don’t like any bosses that can become invulnerable so I heavily dislike fighting rotjaw
Rotjaw > Hellborn
I swear this is unbiased btw
Hellborn is just some special fancy immolator masquerading as a boss, but Rotjaw is everything you could want and more from a wild target. That's why Rotjaw is a princess.
I think the hellborn tracking is fun w the yelling
but rotjaw is a lot more interesting visually and narratively
The beauty of Desalle is misleading. It is a deadly place filled with lethal possibilities.
I like the idea of Bbg Rottie with one of those classic cone princess hats
Hellborn will be better the moment he gets a rage state.
No one can be told what the Corruption is; you have to see it for yourself.
Is a right of passage
Something that cannot be explained in words, only understood by one
Go into the Bayou yourself and figure it out
We all did
the sculptor was being nice when making the corruption actually because all the freaky violent serial killer people went to corrupted areas instead of messing around in civilized ones he was just making neighborhoods safer
So infecting people with a disease and slowly turn them mad is nice ok 👍
Are there any recorded occurrences of monsters appearing in places outside of the Bayou? Since many cultures have folklore about hostile creatures.
im pretty sure there were a few insidients in new orlens and the other map tells me at least the corruption is spreading across the world though we might be slowing it down with us killing off the bosses if my memory serves me well
There are scarce mentions of other monsters, not all of which are corruption related.
Witches were a problem in New England and Europe, Black Shucks in the moors of Britain, rumors of a Thunderbird in the southwest USA. In China there are spirits/demons that are hunted by professionals and thought to be aspects of the Sculptor's corruption, though not the same as these large incursions.
the prestige 80 dudes old bio said he saw a monster as a child, nobody believed him, and found it again in the bayou or something. I don't think the corruption was around long enough to be related?
The history of the corruption is shaky and not really mentioned. The murmurstone claims the Sculptor reigned during the Roman empire, but aside from that we don't hear about past incursions.
The one thing that does point to the possibility of corrupted monsters outside the incursion zones is that in The Adventures of Timothy Stone, there's the following passage:
We spoke of New York, and how Nora's Hunters were handling the threat there. It was modest compared to the situation in Louisiana – but how long would it remain under control?
And Nora then explains how she got bit by a grunt.
So the Prestige 80 guy might've seen a grunt or something and not been believed. Hellhound might also be a likely candidate.
It probably couldn't have been most of the other monsters as they all have origin stories related to the bayou
Hey Hunters, I’m currently making a Hunt Showdown homebrew rpg for me and my buddies. I haven’t played the game since I got the Plague Doctor. What’s some important lore I should make sure my players know?
First, here's the best way to quickly get access to the lore:
https://huntshowdown.wiki.gg/wiki/Lore
For yourself:
-Read up on Bad As They Seem, Filed Under: Lynch, Letter to Frank Chambers, Philip Huff Jones Correspondence, Leander Coetzee Interview, and Pelican Island Prison for information on the core activities and main players of the AHA.
-Read up on the Tide Trilogy for Land of the Dead info and some metaphysics of the Sculptor, and Desolation's Wake/Scorched Earth for Backers info, explaining the economy of bounties.
-All of the Book of Monsters is good both for inspiring origin stories of homebrewed monsters, and for a general sense of how NPCs understand/think about the corruption.
That covers the core of the setting, and most other lore supplements that knowledge with stories of Hunters doing their thing.
For the Players:
-They should know about the current state of the AHA, whether it's dead and gone, fractured by factions, or still united and recruiting
-They should know about taking the blood serum during ritual initiation and how it gives dark sight, but they shouldn't know too much more about the inoculation's nature
-They should have a general idea on how Hunters get into the life, whether they're formally requested by the AHA as Hunters, recruited as drifters or deputized as prisoners, had visions that led them there, grew up in the area, etc. More avenues for their character's backstories.
-If factions have already grown, they should know the basics of each faction/pact and how they might fit into them. Demented pact probably shouldn't be available for players to choose just to keep the peace among players and to have a nice designated enemy faction akin to bandits in regular RPGs.
Feel free to keep asking questions in here when you need more specific info, even if there's no concrete answer we'll be able to put forward at least a theory on how to handle it in an RPG.
The Lore of Hunt: Showdown 1896 takes place at the end of the Gilded Age, where a mysterious Corruption has overtaken a Louisiana bayou outside New Orleans and later a Colorado mining town in the mountains. While the story happens in the 1890s, the lore itself is epistolary, told through recorded documents...
I have a portion currently done, if this server allows google drive links / anyone would care to look over it
Also appreciate your help/time
I think it's probably fine, we have some pinned google docs in the channel. Hopefully people can take the time to look over it and give suggestions.
@real dove might also be able to help with proper experience, iirc she had her own Hunt: Showdown RPG a while back.
Yes
That’s really cool, mine is just a supplement for an existing system called Savage Worlds
Still cool, may come to you for help with how to properly make the bosses/balance the creatures
If that’s cool
I gotta fix some formatting issues the pdf conversion has
I started playing role playing games with Dungeons & Dragons First Edition. Back when TSR had other games like Star Frontiers and Gamma World. 🎲
I’m lucky, my dad got me into them and now 20ish years later I get to be the GM while he’s able to chill back and be a player
Before Shane Hensley came out as a bigot I did a bunch of SWADE stuff using Deadlands and I custom made some boss monsters
If I have any of those stats still lying around I’ll post them
I have hunt themed maps too
Imagine if we could get a game like hunt but that top down Xcom or Doorkickers style
Those maps are incredible
Also shame to hear about Hensley. Because I’ve been using Deadlands as another reference, especially for revolver mechanics (single vs double etc)
That’d be pretty awesome, if I had the game making skills I would take up that endeavor
Unfortunately I’ve only ever made mods for games, never a game itself
Lore experts, after Finch’s death did the AHA collapse too? Or did it continue just fractured and weakened?
Currently reading up about the different events that happened
The AHA was dying at the time of Finch’s death, but it kept going with Chary as the head, roughly up until 1896
Only once chary died and they got in direct contact with the backers would I say the AHA was truly dead and gone
Though some hunters likely keep up its traditions and practices, and there are other branches mentioned that are presumably still going
The AHA collapsed during Devil's Moon with Finch abdicating his duties and Chary steering the remnants of the AHA as leader of the Infernal Pact more than leader of the AHA. Finch's death and Chary's banishment more or less happened at the same time during Tide of Corruption, so that could be seen as the most definitive end to the last vestiges of the AHA, the point of no return.
Excellent, thank you both
It would be pretty interesting if the U.S. Gov’t said fuck it and formally stepped in one of these days
Would make for a cool event maybe
That’s what I like about Sgt Bridgewater. He’s a veteran. 🇺🇸 🫡
Is there a page where I can read roughly were the lore is at?
Do you mean a page to access the lore in general or a page that summarizes the current state of Hunt? The former can be found on the wiki gg fan wiki or in the compendium in the pinned messages of this channel.
The latter hasn't been made, but you can get a general sense of where things are at by reading the Desolation's Wake and Scorched Earth event stories, and then despairing on how that's where the story essentially ended.
Ok, thanks
my dream event is an army intervention though keyword is dream there not request because more soldier hunters is probably not happening nor does it really need to.
I could go for some more legendary military skins
The pinned links have been super helpful, is it ever stated when the incident began? Earliest dates I’ve found are from May 1893
There's no concrete date but generally it seems like the early stages of corruption when Grunts started to walk around was in late 1893 (Pelican Island Prison mentions a delusional man raving about the undead in December 1893). 1894 was when the AHA began to take note of it, and early 1895 was when control began to slip.
Micah Mitchell claiming he was fighting the assassin in 1893 and dodging hives and shit just doesn't fit the timeline, so I have to assume he's just so out of touch he doesn't even know what year it is.
If you haven't checked it out yet, the Secondary Compendium has a timeline of events at the bottom of the doc
Yeah the mention of a hive in 1893 when the first recorded one wasn’t until July 1894 had me scratching my head
has this stuff been spoken about here yet
Not yet, but I don't think there's too much significance. The mail carts are cool but the Sealed Cache is the same assets as from Desolation's Wake
I'm moreso worried that season system means reruns
It's possible, but they'd have to present something new to offer to players even if they're re-using an old event theme 🤔
the mail thing is new so assuming they aren't just tweaking the map that has to be something we haven't seen
though I hope they aren't just putting a mailman hunter in a slightly rougher look and making that the theme
I think it's just serving as a source of pledge marks for the new Vanilla+ standard
It'll probably disappear during events just like the Sealed Cache will
that'd make sense
I feel like I've walked past a majority of those envelopes without noticing
New info on what the next Story Challenge will have. But why does it give event points? 🤔
That first image, is that something new? It looks familiar
Oh I might be thinking abt the tide of shadows thing
With the arrival of fresh munitions, the contest to claim them grew heated.
For every Mission during Desolation's Wake, a Sealed Cache will be found in a central location on the map. Will you head for it and claim its power, or sneak the Bounties away during the distraction?
And ye, the same icon was in Tide of Shadows
Ohhhh I thought when you were talking DW you meant the wagon not the totem thingy
Huh maybe we’re gonna get tides trilogy recolors?
I know people really want the gar so
At the bottom of the new blog it says next battlepass & Update 2.7 begins in March
Ultimately it's kinda normal for Crytek, they prefer not to do big stuff in Feb. Garden of the Witch began March 26, Desolation's Wake began March 6, Ward of the Reptilian March 29, Traitor's Moon and As the Crow Flies March 24
We'll probably get Anniversary Twitch Drops at least
happy to see the free storyline each major update
If the weekly challenges are telling the truth, the next event may start somewhere around March 11-16th
March 10th is also my birthday. 🎂

the spider was a bunch of people all melted and merged together in a open grave
the assassin seemed to be enjoying being both a monster and a person before 1895
butcher was a dead meathead, scrapbeak was rude before he transformed
i cant say worse words than rude now, the server has blocked them
Prob Rottie
I felt pity for the brute or the spider you know being morph into something against your will
Hellborn is pretty up there
Elaborate???
Does that mean that the assassin we fight is sentient?
I’m so confused
"friends"
Also likely he's lost his mind by now
Since each AI is given a piece of the soul of the original
Iirc
Can't imagine living 100000 fragmented lives is good for your mental sanity
Also being set on fire
i bet the assassin now is as described by the cowl
"See how they move? No leaders, no weak points, just purpose. Pure and noble."
We listened to the Cleaver's muffled squeals as the beetles continued to feast on the honey, on him.
"We shall become like the swarm," he concluded. "Find your own way. Deceive. Lie. Incinerate. Surge until the Graven Path is found. If you fail, the other Pacts will ascend. Punishment is all that will await you."
Probably Rotjaw because she was forcefully separated from her beloved owner and in the process was thrusted into a completely new and terrifying world unfamiliar to her. At the same time there are now all these different groups of hunters tracking her down so they can eliminate her.
The rainstorms in the game are actually her tears and the thunder we hear during the match is her crying out in emotional distress like a dog whimpering for it's owner to return.
Spider's story is disturbing, but not necessarily sad or tragic. Scrapbeak's story is kind of sad because he's basically a forgotten veteran.
Assassin was already a monster before he became a swarm of insects and Butcher is literally just a stuffed meathead with a pig head glued to where a head is supposed to be.
I'd say Brute and Rotjaw are the most sad for me because they're just animals that are suffering.
I felt most bad for the brute both the bear half and the human
The spider too no one deserves those types of fates
So he's some kind of horse thief/bandit? I was wondering how they'd tie in the year of the horse with this guy.
Also, you got to love the comically horseshoe he holds in his hunter animation.
The description to the saber skin is strangely familiar to what a character named Bloodsoaked Chiaki lies about in Blue-Eyed Samurai.
could be a draft horse show
shoe
them some biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig boys
Apparently the mahjong thing is some wordplay bc I think the character or pronunciation for mah in mahjong is similar to something for horse thief (at least one of my CN friends said that to me!)

Game Of Skill
Introduction
From a letter to a small village outside Canton, translated from Chinese:
Old friend,
It took longer than I wanted but I can finally update you on my whereabouts. The captain who granted me passage on his ship made the mistake of believing I would enter servitude. He paid for that mistake the morning we docked, with three separate payments: the money in his wallet, his horse, and his life.
America has incredible wealth, that much is true, but it is mostly clenched in the hands of a lucky few. Greed rules here. I am happy to step in. It’s time to feed all the hungry mouths-not just my own, but yours as well, and the rest of our brothers. Justice is inevitable.
As to how I plan on getting the money, well, you wouldn’t believe me if I told you. There are things here that rival the things in the stories the elders used to tell us. But that’s not for you to worry about. More soon. Stay vigilant—I know I will be.
Is the murder circus story finished now?
God I hope so
did it even have a conclusion?
One of the sentences of the Murder Circus Encore conclusion implies it might be a trilogy. It was something like, “who knows if it will return”.
CHAPTER I
||From a letter to a small village outside Canton, translated from Chinese:
Old friend,
The horse I liberated is gone. I realized too late that the sickness of this so-called “Incursion Zone” seeps into everything. Terrible things happen to the animals. Worse things happen to the people. The death is as plentiful as the greed, but fear only serves to strengthen my cause. It reminds me how much is at stake. It reminds me that I am alive.
I have been honing my skills as a bounty hunter. The work is heart-pounding but satisfying. The power lies with the mysterious people who pay the bounties, the Backers. They are rich. My plan is simple, and its justice will be twofold: I will earn a bounty. Meet a Backer. Rob him and keep the bounty. Then repeat. Justice, then justice, and justice.
Do you remember when we used to play mahjong? There’s a Backer who brags about his skill in the game and earned his fortune conducting business in China. I wonder what kind of business exactly. I plan to lure him with the promise of a game of skill. Think I can win?||
CHAPTER II
||Old friend,
My patience is wearing thin, but I hold true to the plan, keeping to the shadows. I haven’t been able to get a bounty yet. The Hunters who fight over them are ruthless. Their strain of ruthlessness deviates from mine, which is rooted in honor and what’s right. They are just as desperate for the money, and their frantic, dirty methods reflect it. I will have to make sure to leave purses of coins for them around the Incursion Zone once I’m able to. Maybe they’ll fight with more honor then.
Meanwhile, the Backer I’ve targeted lives to gamble bounties. He has more money than sense, but isn’t that true of most who are proud to hoard riches? Watching him from afar between hunts, I can tell that his pride will force him to accept my challenge. The trap is set.
I’m curious…did you ever have a favorite mahjong tile? Mine was always the Green Dragon.||
Interesting that the backers are just hanging out in the incursion areas
Not in, but nearby, wherever Hunters go after their hunts to get paid and re-equip
they gotta be close enough to buy and sell and gamble i guess
planning to || rob the backers is certainly a plan alright ||
and loose a renewable revenue source no thanks
The calm waters of Desalle are playgrounds for Water Devils that can devour an entire hunter in less than one minute. 🪱
It'll totally work though

I see thank you Haz
I have a question about one of the hunters. The Prescient to be precise. Her real name is Ira Ozols. And in Latvian, Ozols means Oak and it is a common Latvian Last name. Ira is also first name that we use quite often in Latvia. Is Prescient of Latvian descent? Perhaps some of you, more familiar with Hunt’s lore could help me out?
It’s not said, but probably
so out of all the hunter who deserve to be here the most
Considering her name it would surprise me if the intention wasn't for her to be Latvian tbh
Often times the descriptions and information we have on the numerous different legendary hunters don't explicitly mention their nationality or racial background, but instead it's insinuated through names, skins, and other item descriptions. For example I'm pretty sure Mary Ochenkov is Russian since her husband's name was Petr and the same event she was introduced as a skin also featured the syringe skins "Ksusha" and "Zeal."
Another good example is how Daughter of Decay is certainly Irish through all of her descriptions and character themes.
Still, I don't think it's ever explicitly stated but in this case it doesn't really need to to be since the information is being conveyed in such a way that doesn't necessarily require for it to be explicitly mentioned in a description or piece of text.
Personally I think if they just told readers exactly which nationality or race this hunter was supposed to be it would come off as exceedingly lazy and uninspired so this method of telling us the backgrounds of each hunter is much better and ultimately makes for better reading and a more enjoyable experience.
I came to the same conclusion when looking at the background of her name a while back. Ira is found in other cultures but Ozols is very Latvian so together they point in that direction.
pleaseeeee crytek, send the statesman after him, I need thissssss....
It would be cool if the backers had their own quests, items and accessible in the menu!
Kinda like Tarkov vendors or something? That would be interesting, and help cement the new age of Hunting in the common understanding of the lore
People who didn't read Scorched Earth or have only the slightest idea about the storyline might still think the AHA is who pays for bounties
Scorched Earth was such an awesome event. 🔥

Get Hunt: Showdown 1896 on...
all the bosses are copies of the original and can be killed many times
All bosses are canonically dead, but the Sculptor doesn't care about that. The souls of the bosses get brought back repeatedly, which is why the Hunt has gone on for so long.
It's the same reason why you see hives and doctor grunts and stuff that look identical, they're all copies
Yeah, duplicates of Hunters running around is one of the core gameplay-story differences they can't smooth over with lore
The drowned hunters are all canonically dead in story, their zombie version are just chilling in the bayou keeping things on lockdown while most hunters left for Colorado
Eventually the Hunt has to end because the events which unfold are retroactive.
Also, the implication that Scaled ward killed Rotjaw is confusing to me, but I guess the event stories never did specify who actually dealt the killing blow to her. I only recall it mentioning that Gar banished alongside with her.
I also remember Cardinal rain weakening her.
The implication of the Scaled Warrior line could be it was a competition between the Reptile gang, rather than the first to ever do it.
Reptilian's journal about tracking Rotjaw and choosing not to hunt her is presumably written after the events of Tide of Shadows where Rotjaw first enters the bayou and is banished for the first time, starting the Sculptor cycle.
Is there any lore on how death cheat works? What exactly is keeping the hunter from dying?
grit
I'd say a good 80% of the traits in the game aren't mentioned to be a thing in lore, the main exceptions were during the Tide Trilogy when event traits were woven into the narrative. Death Cheat almost gets mentioned by Gar as she's banishing Rotjaw:
I bleed all the blood I have left into Her mouth and banish Her soul as mine is leaving too. I find the ghost of her hand and hold it. If I can cheat this death, so can She.
But no explanations are given.
When more fanciful traits began appearing I developed the headcanon that some traits may be mutations caused by the serum or were results in variations of serum lots, or a mix of both
Trait spurs are canon so there must be some way of making them
Maybe from
The skulls of the hunters that have/know that skill
ahh fair. Traits themselves I always imagined were just talents hunters learnt from their time in the bayou but death cheat is a bit more mysterious than the regular traits. Hopefully some trait lore comes in the future
Scognamiglio's theory that meatheads can farm souls would be one part of explaining trait spurs, almost like pearls that they create within themselves.
Doesn't explain how Brutes and Rotjaw and Hellborn do it too but eh
Maybe rotjaw and co pull from the souls of hunters they’ve killed
That wouldn’t work for the brute though
theory sculptor using his power to bring them back over and over again maybe the hunters too due to them being it entertainment
Btw where is Scognamiglio at this time in the lore ?
I think they forgot he existed
Maybe they'll turn him into a Hunter someday the same way they did for Doc Redmartin
Evening peeps, anyone know the best place to read about the lore chronologically?
Been diving around the wiki and while I love it, I feel like I'm just taking in information at random. I'd like to know about what's actively going on in the setting, since apparently since last I played the AHA has completely disbanded?
And I'm trying to figure out what the fuck happened
Mister Rai completely compiled all the lore in a Doc on here, also HazmatFTW has some really solid videos on the lore. There are also some incredibly knowledgeable and well versed folks here haha
I’m just a guy
Syndi is Kenough
Can someone explain the hellborn a bit more? I understand the events as they unfold but what exactly was it that turned Damon? Was it the comet shard that fell from space eventually awakening something within him or would that have happened regardless of his experience with the comet shard?
Are they essentially saying the hellborn is a space monster?
The secondary compendium in the pinned messages of this channel has a timeline of events at the very bottom. That helps to put everything into perspective at the cost of some parts being more disjointed and having to jump around more. Ultimately going down the wiki's Lore page is a fine way to read into everything, as much of the lore was written in chronological order:
-The Louisiana Incident set up the premise
-Book of Monsters covers the origins of monsters in early 1895
-first 80% of Book of Weapons covers early 1895 and a bit of 1894 background
-Moon Trilogy & Tide Trilogy starts progressing the plot
-last part of Book of Weapons follows Moon & Tide trilogy
-Desolation's Wake and Scorched Earth set up the next arc of the story
The Online blogposts are the one part that doesn't fit neatly into this system, they pop up and give supplementary info whenever they like.
It's left vague but I think the meteorite was just a coincidence, or possibly attuned him towards fire. The connection between the two events isn't definitive.
My previous theory way back when Scorched Earth first dropped is that the ritual to replenish the oil is alchemical in nature, and the emotions involved (righteous anger, just like Jeremy Byrne the first immolator) refocused the ritual from radiating outward to instead going inward to transform Delacroix. I'll see if I can find the larger effort post I made back then and forward it.
Interesting stuff! I guess an air of mystery is always good.
I did also think about the comparison of the first immolator and faith.
The Alchemy stuff is always cool and interesting, I ain’t too intelligent but I always thought art using alchemy to explain in world stuff was fascinating lol
Is there anything in existing lore, hunter/weapon/item descriptions that hints to what that new POI is about?
Do you mean the current POI or ideas on the next 17th compound for the event in March?
For the former, the Sealed Horde is established as a supply dropoff by the Backers, handled by people like the Statesman to give Hunters more equipment to work with during their hunts, potentially because of the disintegration of the AHA meaning they were worse off logistically until the Backers stepped in directly. It was first introduced in Desolation's Wake.
For the latter, we don't know squat.
Yes, I meant the current POI. I was mystified by the significance of the Sealed Horde but your explanation was exactly what I was looking for, thank you.
Does anyone know if story challenges will be available to still read after we've completed them and after their time limit expires?
I believe so, I've seen people post screenshots of On the Winds of Midwinter still being available to look at after the event ended. The whole thing disappearing upon completion would be a bit odd
Alright good. I was hoping I could go back and observe these stories in-game.
So most innocent hunter
Ya the only person he killed was cherry
Didn’t even manage to kill him haha
I reckon Kevin and the side of good did technically win over Mr Chary in the end. Fella can’t do much now as a half dead steam cloud, or was he sent to the moon? Unsure.
But I ain’t seen a peep from Chary since
He got Thanos snapped
False Saint : 1
Mr Chary: Done
I kinda hope he returns
Plus ratio
Me too honestly he was a well written villain
Kevin Linus after coming back to life : Now check out this new dance move I learned!
Sofia: Get in the darned Train , Kevin!
Lol
William Moses thousand yard staring

He’s a villain you loved to be against. That is a testament to good Antagonist writing
Also the lore was immaculately solid around the Moons/ Tides Trilogies
Idk about that, the only thing that survived the Moon trilogy was Chary and the Infernal Pact. The Moon isn't relevant at all (and was dubious within the story to begin with, the stakes were never given any weight compared to the conflict around the Murmurstone) and Kevin got relegated to being Mary & Circe's third wheel rather than leader of the Lunar Pact calling for hunters across the globe to help.
I honestly don't even know what is supposed to be canon anymore. There's so many aspects of the lore that have come and gone, and the moon trilogy is just one piece of that.
Most people I talk to about the lore don't even know things like who the twins were, or names like Huff.
we'll likely see a revisit in some level to it at some point if they do more recolors
who knows tho it's not like narrative is a huge priority
idk, there's a couple of things I want hunt to take from overwatch rn and the big narrative push is one of them
(the other thing I want it to take from ow is dropping the damn number from the name. go back to hunt showdown please)
Isn't inferno supposed to come back af some point? I was hoping the circus would burn down and that's how they destroy it because for a bit there that's all anyone was focused on doing.
but man is this big narrative push doing well for OW. people are getting excited and talking. people I know who haven't played the game since like 2018 are picking it up again
yeah hopefully at some point
But I don't know who it was here that pointed out that they could have one more go at the circus stuff and I can't help but feel like that'll be the case.
I’m also thinking it will be a trilogy.
I thought that initial teaser image of Murder Circus Encore was Inferno blazing in the distance. 🔥
yeah I'm one of them, I haven't played that game since 2017 and just got it again a week ago
good turn off my brain and just play game
Ow fun
Lore exciting
Literally the exact same for hunt— hunt is a fun game and new lore is exciting
Having a cohesive story going on helps with like everything too. Makes new characters easy to make, gives excuses to try new stuff in game
I like that the small hunt lore we do get at least ties itself into stuff we know about
like the current new year hunter trying to rob backers and giving us a little more detail about them
they coulda easily just kept it as a separate homeland story that just results in "they go to the bayou after"
Yeah
Yeah, same. You could see the edges of the curtains blackened and burning with embers too.
It was around the same time they announced inferno would be making a comeback as well.
I believe someone on Reddit said inferno was being tested and was supposedly gonna launch at the midpoint
But it didn’t
It’d have fit well with the flamethrower
Maybe they ran into technical issues
is there a doc or chart or w/e about what songs go with which characters
or lore moments
aura farms
I genuinely just always am a sucker for cool world building stuff, have been around since the full console release back in 2018
Slowly started reading lore and found out a while later there was a discord haha. Never was too tech savvy but better late than never eh?
The Twins are awesome and I really vibe with the mysterious and gritty nature of the lore from around that time
But the Moon Trilogy/ Tides Trilogy started expanding on the world and gave us a story as well
So I liked that. Along with the voiced chapters
Desolation’s Wake was solid as well
Lore is incredibly fun to piece together and expand on when you don’t know all the answers
With nuance ofc
I miss Ash Bloom. 🌫️
I remember the last time they attempted to bring back inferno it bugged out and you couldn't see the flames, but the ground would glow where they were supposed to be.
in some places the smoke would flicker in and out and i think there was a way to nvidia inspector it away
which is not ideal
Isn’t there an explanation in lore why all of the snakes are missing from the bayou? 🐍
I vaguely remember seeing something somewhere that said the snakes were gone for a reason. Was it from an event?
What was the premise for the event that involved unlocking The Viper?
That was the gators missing. Snakes are still around - they featured heavily in Bad as they Seem - and are potentially more plentiful after Chary turned Kevin into a snake farm for a little bit during Serpent's Moon.
Also, there's a charm in the game that suggests the moon is filled to the brim with a bunch of writhing snakes.
Not sure how narratively plausible that description is now though
Most charms and skin descriptions contain zero narratively useful info, ye
The Moon, corroded by time, births snakes of shadow to feast upon the Earth and restore peace to its kingdom. In truth, the Moon harbors much greater horrors than serpents, but only the demented would invoke such power with a rusted copper sigil.
In the movie Apollo 18 the moon was full of rock-like spiders. 🕷️
The implication that the moon harbors greater horrors than snakes was pretty intriguing. It's a shame all that stuff with the moon basically went nowhere.
But the idea that only demented people would invoke such power was a concept that survived.
We know that Inferno is returning. Some of us hope Ash Bloom will return. But what about Serpent Moon? 🌕
I miss snake moon
Wasn’t it awesome? It was a night map but that huge moon gave it a creepy natural lighting.
I miss a lot of what the game used to have, but subsequently disappeared when it updated. But hey at least we have 1896 in the name. 🥲
Oh and does anyone else remember the random thunder that would happen on night maps?
I'm not sure why they removed it, but maybe it was because there were no visible clouds?
I made this post on Reddit the other day: https://www.reddit.com/r/HuntShowdown/s/AE3ZIbZKb9
We were discussing those thunder sound effects and how we used them to open doors stealthily.
My best guess is all of those weather conditions and elements will return eventually.
Time is the only distance between the inevitable.
I hope so as well
I hope you're right about that.
Idea a stormbird secret boss
÷
I still don't understand how hunters induce dark vision.
Dark ritual don't search if you wish to keep your sanity
Literally the best way to describe Hunt lore💀
The original recipe involved the datura herb, a toxic plant which has been historically used to induce religious/occult visions in cultures irl. So the idea in Hunt is that the visions are more than delusions, and the blood serum when properly mixed changes a person permanently, giving them a new sense.
So, in essence, dark vision is just hallucinations?
Kind of. The way it's been described to me before gives me the impression that it's basically a form of supernatural vision where you're able to see things that are otherwise hidden to the naked eye.
but still, how do they activate it at the right moment, shouldn’t it then work constantly?
It's like a sixth sense. Receiving the inoculation allows hunters to tap into that sense with enough focus. According to John Victor in the tutorial focusing on certain things (like clues) feels like an itch behind the eyes.
I imagine you simply focus on what you want to see using the power. Kind of like opening and closing your eyes or rubbing them to make sure what you're seeing is correct.
Maybe even like squinting your eyes to see something more clear. That's how I'd imagine using dark sight anyways.
In short, it's clear that this is roughly what using dark vision looks like.
I think the tutorial describes it as “an itch behind the eyes”
That's what it feels like, but it never really specified how to use it.
i always thought its just closing your eyes and see a diffent world kind of like a upsidedown
but darker and more voilent
Question: Is the infection, the one that turns people into grunts, symptomatic?
I recall it is, but cannot remember where I read it
It seems to depend, we see some people linger with it, like salter (William I think), he had fever and hallucinations for weeks before eventually turning
Other times it’s instant like in the case of the of the port sulphur band’s saloon performance where the whole saloon turned at once
Who puts the supply points in the map?
The Backers sent in some equipment like the Sealed Horde, but otherwise it's supposed to be abandoned gear. Antonia Higuera's bios mention it. That it's so neatly packed for easy acquisition is more for the sake of the game than representing what's actually happening in the story.
Thats why i find it weird like, somebody put things there before any hunter comes in as if its a park management for the hunters play around, and not like an actual desolated apolaciptic land wherr you survive with what you came with
Kinda similar with how horses are laid about and how some grunts and hellhounds have cages on their heads, the hunting grounds previously did have a larger concerted effort of people on horseback and with wagons trying to fight back the corruption in a more unified way, but ultimately they were overtaken and independent hunters were left to take their shit for their own gain.
@sinful bloom
So who's worst the hellborn or the assassin
Rotjaw’s the worst with the bug where it just disappears for 1 or 2 minutes rn
i just had that happen, didnt know it was a new bug
I still love my princess no matter how buggy she may be.
Kill more Rotjaw, to reduce the amount of bugginess.
clearly it means "for invitations to the wedding" because the next event is the lulu/sofia wedding event
👏🏻About 👏🏻Frickin’👏🏻 Time 👏🏻 👏🏻
Kevin will be the ring bearer
exactly
I like it, but I like the idea of Lulu’s cat’s ghost (Schubert) coming back just to be the ring bearer for Schubert’s Mamas’ wedding
Vengeance for Schubert
Get the next one of these
It’s hunt tho so it’d be concertina and Schubert 2 would collect the corpses of vultures and crows in amidst the concertina spikes like some kind of shrike bird
schubert wasn't eaten he was dropped into the bayou and promptly corrupted and turned into a monster ❤️
I'd hate to be somebody's pet in the Hunt universe. Bunny, Princess, Schubert... the tragedies never cease!
Not to mention every hunter that picks up a friendly looking beetle chucks it at the enemy to explode.
I wouldn't want to be in a 100 mile radiac from the bayou
Oh yeah, we also got Ursa Mortis too.
Technically not really a pet, but circus performers
Finally got the other two chapters of Game of Skill:
Chapter III
||Old friend,
Patience pays off. I’ve found my stride at last, thanks to two men who tried to steal a bounty from another hunter. From the shadows, I noticed the finer fur and golden buckles of their coats, the sheen of their ornate shotguns. Their entitlement was palpable. It lit my heart alive with clarity. I quietly drew my blade. Within five seconds, both of their heads had fallen to the floor. The surviving hunter and I split the bounty and parted ways.
I was finally ready to approach the Backer. I told him to meet me in a saloon out of harm’s way so I could deliver a bounty. It’s a dark and quiet place that will serve my purpose with ease. He was intrigued when I brought up mahjong; I offered to play a game with him after our business was finished. The date is set.
I’ll write again once the deed is done.||
Chapter IV
||Old friend,
I told the Backer that he might have a hard time beating me in mahjong if he lacked mathematical education. The way his expression hardened satisfied me. He was eager to prove his superiority–to me and to the two bodyguards he’d brought along.
To “make it more interesting,” the Backer proclaimed that the game’s winner would keep the bounty. The loser would forfeit their life. It was a pleasure to see the confidence drain from his face as the game went on. When he realized he was going to lose, he signaled to his bodyguard. I was shot.
That mistake was mine. Their mistake was leaving me for dead. They didn’t make it far before I picked them off with my rifle. The money and bounty were mine. Bloody justice has found the bayou. All it cost was a bullet wound. Still it made me think. This place is corrupt. It needs governance. I think it’s time we widened our ambitions.
The letter was sent with fifty thousand American dollars.||
That last sentence in his letter though...
what does it mean?
If this was a kind, narrative-friendly world, it would mean the plot is starting back up.
Also the amount of money is insane
Ironshod sent nearly $2,000,000 in today's money, presumably in a 11 pound stack of bills, to his old friend in China.
backers are rich
jeez
no way they paid 2mil a bounty
stares at my sad 60k hunt dollars
I did a napkin math attempt a while back and found that single bounty tokens are worth maybe $111 or so in 1896, so 4.2k in today's money.
but that's only basing it off of the in-game economy which is sketchy
I think Ironshod probably looted the Backer for all he's worth - maybe he had a vault of cash that he put aside for paying bounties? - and sent a chunk of the wealth off.
King tbh
Ironshod looks so cool when he killed me this morning I couldn’t even be mad.
What is the tldr of the lore I am new
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBjUCbjZFOs
For a text version: An otherworldly entity called The Sculptor has infected an area of the Louisiana bayou in 1894ish (and then later Colorado in 1896) and that infection/corruption turns people into grunts and armoreds. Some monsters like the immolator, hive, meathead, brute, and boss targets however aren't just random people turned, but instead specific singular people or creatures who've had their souls basically captured and are perpetually copied and brought back by the Sculptor within the incursion zone.
The Hunters that go into these incursions used to be backed by the American Hunter's Association -a centuries old secret society of paranormal hunters - and were paid money to kill the monsters and collect their bounty tokens. These people are vagrants, criminals, psychos, and a few valiant (delusional) people willing to fight monsters for coin, recruited by the AHA and others because they couldn't contain the huge incursion through normal means. They gained dark sight by means of the inoculation - a mixture of chemistry and demon's blood that grants them occult sight and resistance to corruption, but also renders them infertile (cause a pregnant hunter spawns monstrosities).
There's only ever one boss active at a time, so these Hunters began killing each other over who gets the spoils, thus we have how the game is in each match. The AHA basically collapsed in the storyline and now Hunters are more freelance but the bounties are still paid by mysterious Backers.
Welcome to Hunt: Showdown 1896!
This video intends to onboard new players in the lore of the game and give them a baseline understanding. In this episode, we will dive into the topics of what happened in 1894 and 1896, what the Sculptor is, what the corruption does, who the American Hunters Association is, why the hunters are in the bayous of L...
Thanks for typing that out imma go watch the video but I like that I am intrigued. Also as a native to the bayou this isn’t a fictional game rather a documentary.
If you ever want to dig into more of it, you can watch more of Hazmat's videos, check out the compendium in the pinned messages of this channel for the full text stories, or browse through the wiki's lore section (basically a wiki version of the compendium) https://huntshowdown.wiki.gg/wiki/Lore
|| If only there was like a guy who dealt with making sure connections between the hunters and backers was stable that could get involved in this
....... ||
That GIF of Young Joc is hilarious. 😭
I will most certainly thanks so much
If Mister Hellborn is coming to the other maps, does it clash with any lore?
Not really, the Sculptor ported all the other bayou-born monsters over to Colorado without issue, there's no reason it couldn't be done the other way.
It does seem like a break in both the themes of Mammon's Gulch and what I think I remember hearing (could be a hallucination) about how the plan was for each map to become more unique with wildtargets and times of day being specific to them.
The hellboy traveled from the mountain to the swamp to burn everything and tada we get the inferno
Could be an explaination for the inferno
i mean Dennis kinda teased that both may be connected
I wonder how long it took the sculptor to figure out how to port leeches into the rivers and streams in Colorado. That must've been a doozy for them.
Sculptor still hasn't figured out how to port Rotjaw though
There aren’t that many good places for her to spawn sadly.

Excerpt from: Story entitled Fire With Fire from the book Tales From the Bayou by Remy Jane
Undated
Bleached paper, typewritten, 8.5x11 in
"Everyone had heard about the Turncoat Gang. The Turncoat was their leader, and he brought together that Stormseer woman, the Head Taker, and a fourth member who was there one moment and gone the next. People wondered what became of him. Guessed he wasn’t cut out for bounty hunting. Bet the gang had grown tired of him and cut ties. But few knew the truth: the man had turned on his own, murdering Head Taker’s parents to punish him for a slight made against his own mother. When Head Taker finally caught up with him outside of Maw Battery, he didn’t even put up a fight. It was only right, he knew. An eye for an eye. When Head Taker lit him on fire, the man tried as hard as he could to stay silent, but it didn’t work. Even as his lungs filled with the smoke from his own burning flesh, he screamed. The Corruption was drawn to the music of his screams, entered his lungs along with the smoke, and lit up his chest to make real the burning that the man had felt there for too many years."

Temporarily locked the channel to let things calm down, a mod accidentally copy pasted the entire announcement message which had the community tag ping in it, opening the channel again in a bit
Apologies for the mistake
I am so sorry lore peeps
Panik
I suppose we can let it slide this once
Don't be sorry, the lore channel never had that many people checking in
So ye Remy Jane has written a story in the lore before, the Slate Riposte mastery describing Llorona's Heir stalking and killing people
This new story could either be detailing a new Immolator-themed skin, or the corruption overtaking him is meant to explain how the bayou Hellborn isn't the same as the gulch Hellborn
Which is a tiny bit lame imo as the origin story for this new guy seems quite tame compared to the OG Immolator and Hellborn
Maybe this new story is related to Inferno. 🔥
Another on the website
Ye that was the first hint that pointed towards twitter. So far the letters are FI RE BR
Not directly lore related, but another part of the message.
what the fuck they're telling us to fire brazil? come on
Right
lmao
🇫🇮 🇷🇪 🇧🇷
what could it mean 🤔
If I had to make a guess, it's something having to do with Scorched Earth pt 2, that they announced.
I would be so happy if it actually was Scorched Earth 2 complete with the narrative picking back up
Oh, I suppose the other big news is that Turncoat managed to convince Head Taker to join up with him rather than pursue him further. Another thematic trio formed 💪
I assume the Stormseer is the Prescient?
wasn't that a web of the empress hunter
I wish we'd get more Mythic skins.
If that's the case, they should return the old skins back.
they can't if they're listed as mythic
but that's why we're not really getting a ton of mythic skins anymore, bc people aren't fond of the fomo tactics
Have we gotten any recently?
Hopefully they start up the Legends Return initiative again, I know making these skins takes a bit but I was hoping that they'd be remaking the Mythic hunters faster than the current pace
Myrhic
maybe post malone?
Tuping
The last Mythic was Post Malone from Murder Circus 1, not counting charms and titles
OMG
but other than that I think they've kinda dropped doing mythics
Nope, no weapon or hunter has been mythic since the start of 2025
only the end of BP charms/titles are mythic rarity
I hope they release Mythic skins every once in a while, for a special occassion.
A giveaway or competition, etc.
i hope they dont gatekeep digital skins anymore
I was unlucky enough to first join at the end of Tide of Desolation and then didn't play till late Witch's Garden/JotF, so I missed all the good ones.
pretty sure we´ll see the comeback of several mythic skins as recolours or other variants this year. they already said they want to continue bringing them back
Hopefully, though they did the first way back in July and haven't put out any since then which is a bad sign
if the next event really has a native american theme i hope the old ones come back, they were so nice
Who knows, maybe Kevin is required again, in the lore.
I wish they'd also give us a Lynch/Charry description.
We only know how Charry was dressed.
and that he had long nails
So that means there won't be any new news until March 1st?
Yeah, presumably the next clue drops at that point on instagram
It seems they are allies now.
Turncoat is pretty good at making friends
Turncoat might be good at making friends, but Felis is the best at it.
great at making friends andenemies
I'm curious why all the B's and R's are bolded
I think having a recolor of the pumpkin guys or the clows sound kinda better than having a recolor of Mary Ochenkov or the 13th Mate frankly. Old Hunt Mythic skins feel too unique overall for me to get a recolor.
Scroll up through this channel and the answers shouldnt be too far up, its part of a series of clues
since inferno is confirmed to be coming back this year and the clues writing out fire safe to assume that's what's coming
I wonder if the turncoat story was just a way to get that across with cool lore as a side dish or if there will be a narrative around gangs
The bolded letters are some kind of code but what?
r r r r r r b r B b R B r r r r r r b r r r r r r b r r r b b B r r B r r r r r r r r B r r r r r b r r b r r r r r r r r b r r
I'm going to crunch some numbers
Okays so after so pain staking research I was either wrong about the morse code angle or the writers hate us:
64 characters
50 R/r’s
14 B/b’s
6 Upper Case | 1 R | 5 B’s
60 lower case | 49 r’s | 9 b’s
271 characters
210 I/i’s
61 F/f’s
8 Upper Case | 4 I’s | 4 F’s |
263 Lower Case | 206 i’s | 57 f’s |
the letters could be dots and dashes but I can't think of a way to determine where one letter ends and another begins let alone where one word ends
So the code is probably not as complicated as I originally thought
FI RE BR be willing to bet the next letters with be IN & GS
Fire Brings? 🔥
Assuming the letters aren't jumbeled I can't thing of many other BR words that aren't conjugations of bring
Fire Bringer would be a cool name for a new hunter.
Fire Brand feels like a strong contender
But Fire Brings [word] could be a fun string of hints
I'm assuming any message related to fire is just teasing what's to come. This previous event featured a lot of infernal related skins as well so all directions seem to be pointing towards inferno being a big thing again for the third time.
Maybe fire arrows
.
Fire Brand/Fire Brands would be a dope name for a hunter/pact
Rai what was the lore around Burnt Marshall again was he with anyone?
He was an infernal pact member, he ran with chary and the others, but he wasn’t mentioned past the inferno event
Not that I recall anyway
Aside from his connection to Delacroix in being in the same Peshtigo fire, there hasn't been any big revelations or anything about Burnt Marshall. He was just a fire guy
Wonder if they'll tie Delacroix into the return of the Inferno?
The Hellborn entering the bayou was mentioned as a possibility in a recent German interview with Dennis, which might be tied to the inferno. If that's the case, either Delacroix is getting transplanted, or Hellborn 2 is being made, possibly the guy lit up by the Turncoat Gang. Corrupted fire affecting the lungs specifically is a key part of the Hellborn's anatomy.
Bring infernal pact back fully and my soul is cryteks
When I saw those burnt weapon skins in the last battle pass I figured we’d probably see the Infernal Pact again.
The sound effects of Inferno were really impressive. I liked how the roar and rumble made the fire sound like it was alive.
i think fighting around the new inferno is gonna be interesting with the dyna changes with fire and the teased new AI interactions with fire
I remember the fights around the flames being very different than fighting in the rain. Inferno 2.0 is going to be incredible. 🔥
I wonder if we’ll get that one infernal pact trait back
The one where you couldn’t burn
If we don’t it’ll be interesting doing inferno w/o it
I have mixed feelings about it. I mean, I like it but it does seem to be overpowered. Slight flame resistance would be better.
Yeah
Give me a trait that sees difference between setting yourself on fire and being set of fire by someone else
And gives you fire immunity for 20 seconds if it was your own fire bomb
I wanna be a blinding light sprinting at enemies
I want mariner back
Some of those old traits were pretty crazy I have to say.
I remember you could just waltz on up to a cart and get death cheat.
I feel like with how the game is now we probably won't see a return to traits like mariner, blazeborne, or indomitable, and if we do they'd likely receive a drastic change similar to what they did to traits like crackshot and blademancer.
I'm sorry why was I pinged here?
A moderator silliness.
Eventually I noticed that most of the game ́s art represent people with a hole instead of a face. Any interpretation about that (unless the artists like Junji Ito) ?
That's more of a Port Sulphur Band specific thing, their album arts have kept a consistent theme about that alongside the black wires coming out. Probably some meaning there but no idea what it is.
the no face is akin to assassin, wonder if there is a connection there
Hi, I got a question. I am writing a short story set in the Hunt world, and I wanted to ask: Do/can hunters retire?
Absolutely they can. It's a mechanic in game for hunters that reach level 50, and at least one Legendary Hunter is known to have survived the entire ordeal start to finish and subsequently retired; John Victor. He answered some journalist's questions while chilling on his porch in the online story Brood & Bile.
Well, if it ain't my persistent young friend. Welcome to my humble front porch. Surely a fine journalist such as yourself knows how to read that there No Trespassing sign? No? Then take a seat. You're just lucky I recognized your face before my hand recognized my revolver. If you're that eager to know what happened back then, fine. I'll tell you. You won't believe it, but I'll tell you.
Oo, thank you! Yes, I know that I can retire them, already send a good few of them to enjoy rest. But I didn´t know if they could go back to normal life, or if they would still stick close to corruption.
Assassin's are usually depicted as faceless killers so makes sense this one doesn't have a face
question why would the backers continue paying us after the whole cherry depocal
They only care about the tokens flowing, the AHA was their reliable middleman but they don't mind stepping up to keep getting what they want
Also, the backers need the tokens as badly as the hunters need the money. It's the type of perpetually perplexing situation that all comes back to desperation and desire.

The Corruption was drawn to the music of his screams, entered his lungs along with the smoke, and lit up his chest to make real the burning that the man had felt there for too many years."
Could it be a new trait? Fire breath?
Oh damn I was squinting at that image and didn't see the code at all
Firebreak is seeming more possible
🤔 though fire breathing could relate to the Fire With Fire story
What’s the connection?
The new guy breathed in fire
Oh right
Don't tempt me
is this from any existing trailer from hunt? or is it even hunt? maybe new teaser smth.
from the new crytek video
New firebreather trait clearly
What's the timestamp?
last seconds of the video
Ahh i'll get there in 15
Presumably I'd say it's new content, as Vinson Hayes has only shown up in three videos so far and none of them really look like that
maybe its tied to the new tracking mechanic they tease?
Possibly, or it could be flavor for the video. I'm pretty certain that it's from the upcoming trailer now I went and looked at the old videos the Blackwell trio are in. It's almost certainly Vinson Hayes as they have the same nose scar, it's just the glowing eyes that are new. Plus, the surrounding elements in the crytek video are all new. The voice is probably the Nanosuit from the currently shelved Crysis 4, and the shot after Hunt is presumably from Ryse 2, which is in a similar state of limbo
It's mainly known through rumors, job postings, and some leaks in 2020, no official word has ever been given yet
ah. i mean it would be weird if the game is cancelled and they show smth of it. time will tell tho
Hmm the hat does have enough difference but idk
They can change things a fair bit for the sake of the video
Hard to tell from the easy images we have access to
Most of Gunrunner's stuff is from further away or otherwise low quality
hat and beard fit more to carcass runner
yeah it's deffo inferno
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. 🔥
Oh it came a day early huh
fire breather?
Fire Breathes
maybe theyre announcing a dragons breath nerf that way

Is dead, and hopefully the circus doesn't actually impact the world outside its little holiday special type shit
Does this mean Hellborn will come to other maps in the next Purgatory update?
A recent developer interview suggested that's possible, ye
pretty sure yeah
Hellborne says hello, the bayou instantly turns to ash.
audio
.-. / .. / ... / . / -... / ... / . / .- / - / .... / . / ... /
R I S E B S E A T H E S
thats what i came up with, guess the S is an R
so Rise Breathes
are they teasing a fooking Ryse x Hunt collab
Could it be Fire Breathes?
fire and rise seem too different in morse
you did get one S wrong tho so why not two
at least S has 4 dots and R 3 and its clearly starting with 3
because S and R are more similiar
S is ... and R is .-.
while F is ..-. and R .-.
So it's totally fire breathes, it just missed the first dot
doubt it. would hella funny but they also said in the crytek documentary at the end "its all connected" and showed hunt and ryse
why would it be rise and not ryse then
i hope someone who knows morse actually tells us :D i just tried to copy the morse from the video myself
That's reaching
it is but imagine
finally roof access
I like that we can go to the roof
I hope it will remain alongside the old ones
it would be a shame if this was only for the duration of the event
Oh neat
That's a whole new building, isn't it
It's got the framework of the old watchtowers but the overall build and location seems new
i guess its maybe some sort of supply tower variants that changes random watchtowers to that tower with event stuff
Looks nice
Man. I wish they'd just drop a trailer and a release date
Event title comes two weeks out, and trailer/date reveal is typically just a week before but sometimes it also comes two weeks early
if were lucky we get a trailer this week and event next week. but i think its more likey one more week
I wonder if Fire Breathes is supposed to be the event title or just a general teaser 🤔
Each time people ask for a release date they push it back one week
We’re looking at a July 2028 release of the event now
cant wait until then 🔥
What’s the release date?
Can we get a release date?
When’s the update coming?
Have they announced when the update is being released?
ask a few moer times maybe they will announce one
all we have is sometime in march
so
sometime march
no
sometime march
sometime in march
I’m just doing my part here. We’re looking at August 2028 now
release date is canceled
Release one time thing
release one night stand
Vanilla hunt forever!!!
online more code translators are giving me gibberish from this audio
has anyone had any luck so far?
scroll up from you message
FI RE BR EA TH +R I S E B S E A T H E S
It's not RiseBseathes
. _ . used to be F rather than R, and the slight pause between . .. for R and ... for S is harder to catch
So this is just giving us the final two letters, ES, and catching everyone up on the past clues
Though I'll have to check again, the R/S difference is so slight
it could be FIRE BREATHER
new boss
If only, just silly immersion breaking camouflage
Immersion breaking?
That kind of camouflage is not really a thing + the concept of camouflaging buildings like that is like... 20 years ahead of the timeline.
I am not a big fan of the camo netting as well, it feels very modern and it's technically not something they did back then. feels very anachronistic.
The scottish invented ghillie suits in the 1800s to be portable hunting blinds and the Brits first used it in the military in 1899
I feel like it falls in line visually w other overgrown structures in the game
Feels too "tacticool" for me
Damn some people's "immersion" is very fragile seemingly
It's fair tbh since the old school style of hunting blinds went away while we still see military ghillie suits in media and such for the last 100 years
oh didn't know the ghillie suit was invented that long ago. that's nice to know. it's more like hiding whole buildings seems like something which was only done decades later with the threat of air bombings and such.
Everyone have a pain point, yours just different :)
I think like for me, it would make sense for people in this setting to start experimenting w hunting blinds and ghillie suit sort of things
since so much of the area is already super overgrown, it wouldn't be too hard to take inspiration and start making stuff together
plus we have those proto ghilie suit tier 3s so we know the idea is in the minds of some hunters
Sure, for personal camouflage, but for buildings seems a little weird.
That is a concept that came about when long range artillery and air-warfare solidified during ww1.
Unless artillery beetle confirmed? :V
but like if you're setting up in an area for fighting against others, it makes sense to me
Idk if i'd take the netting and leaves to be hiding the building
it's either intending to look more overgrown than it is, or providing some concealment, it's not really disguising that it's a building
I just think it's not too far fetched of a concept to help snipers be harder to spot and counter snipe by looking at the overgrown buildings in the area and crafting some of your own
Which makes zero sense, because now it signals more that it is used than before when it looked abandoned.
