So much potential for the Viper, but I'll never play them with a mask š
I never unlocked their masked variants which⦠tbh Iām fine w lmao
I like their second tier the most
A bit sadge imo, considering the Viper is agender and covers their face, so there should be no way of knowing how they look like lore-wise.
I think they didn't cover their face initially-- at least in one of the chapters it specified them deciding to put on the basket mask
I think that the four stages are supposed to align with their apperance throughout serpent moon's story
i missed most of the moon event....due to IRL commitment. not even joining devil moon event
quite a surprise when i found out that lady hunter got rezzed and become a hunter zombie
ms ochenkov i think
tbh I don't really understand how/why she looks like that. traitor's moon mention that she came out unscathed so there's some weird jump between that and then her at the end of SM/start of DM that never rly got explained I feel
I think I've already asked (and got answered) but I have no idea of what happened during Traitor's Moon.
She came out of the fires from traitors moon just fine, but chary decided to experiment
basically chary was doing his little magical experiments in front of kevin's house, and up until mary ochenkov everyone who volunteered to take part in them was killed. her strength of will was strong and so she was able to survive. more people survived after her apparently. after that, they all had to come back with that which they considered most important (for her, it was the heart of her husband. her whole reason for volunteering was bc chary said he could cure his tuberculosis or whatever. so kinda tragic). kevin watched the whole time kinda terrified. chary then made him take part and the moon chose him to become her champion and kill chary
That last part is from serpent Moon, no ? Or it's just the end of TM and the beginning of SM.
end of TM
I remember this also being for beginning of SM, tho I may confuse with one of the event's trailer.
But the snake thing happens in SM. So I presume he was already the Moon's champion, just not in the False Saint attire.
Hello š I was wondering about the source of the infection or plague in Hunt and was wondering if thereās anything stating whatās causing it
eldritch std
He became the moonās champion in traitorās moon, serpent moon starts with him dreaming abt those events. I think itās just meant to be a summary for people coming into the story who might not have played TM
Lol
thirteenth mate
he's not pledged
Neither are the drowned kid and the drowned rat but they are still apart of the drowned pact
The lore doesnāt always line up with gameplay
If it did Kevin would be small and look more like a child it would be the year 1900 almost 1901 and many hunters wouldnāt not be available to play because they are dead so on so forth
they've mentioned they're not pleding all of the new hunters anymore due to people feeling like it limits their choices w the new hunters
they get the bonuses but not the lock
I just noticed that Coal Bearer has this on both his revolvers and I was wondering what other people make of it.
For me it looks like a moon crescent with stars over mountains with a maybe a forest under them and a river at the bottom.
it's very hard to make out tho so I'm not so sure.
Yeah some northern looking stuff
I get that here in Alberta actually
Very nice mountain valleys with amazing skyās and rivers and whatnot
Iām assuming this isnāt like the actual Santa seeing as that would be an odd thing so thinking about it now he might be the first Canadian
Who knows though
Does talk about the āNorth poll shiftingā or whatever
uhh nice
Maybe it's his vacation spot and the guns are like his souvenirs
I could see that
Also I just want a Canadian hunter š
It is definitely strange that we haven't gotten any yet
Itās cruel
Is there a like, no nonsense, āsomeone fucked the moonā type explanation to the lore of the current event?
I would summarise it as: "Chary messed around and broke the land of the dead"
tho I think the Tide trilogy it's a bit more complicated than the Moon story was
Much appreciated
I donāt follow the lore as much as I should I just like to keep up in case someone asks I can pretend to know
Yeah Black Coat died way before the canonical events of Hunt
He was killed by his two daughters
That is not what happened
yeah i dont think he died anymore
So⦠laffite ended up being devoured by the boiler of the Delphineās ghost
I guess he found it comforting. Considering thatās the one place heād find fitting to die in
can you post the chapters you're up at?
chapter 12
Could you post chs 12-14 too?
Later
Cool thanks!
Also didnāt you already post 12?
No worries! Iām just curious to see what happens
@granite shard
Hey⦠@rare dirge , when the rat mentioned the four drowned, does she mean her, the kid, laffite, and deckhand?
rat isnt the one saying that
its the rat drowned captain and thirteenth mate
ā¦Youāre losing me here.
Yes rat isnāt the one who mentioned that
But lynch said āWe four drownedā
Hhh⦠Iām assuming then itās rat, kid, thirteenth mate, and laffite
I got no other idea
Cause idk why deckhand is part of the downed pact
Oh?
Hmm⦠hhh idk
Iām guessing laffite mightāve went with the Delphine ghost?
So it could be rat, kid, deckhand, and thirteenth mate
But again idk
Heās the leader of the previous infernal pact
Chary is an evil old bastard searching for power.
I donāt get why heād find power in the murmurstoneā¦
I mean if some freak that dresses like a pig can pull out blessings and a cleaver from it than a cunning and devious individual such as Chary can probably get a lot more out of it
And yet did he really get what he wanted?
Well no because there's people constantly standing in his way and thwarting him
Finch and Sofia in Tide of corruption
and Kevin Linus w/ Lunar pact in Devil's moon
probably yeah
Cause⦠Well now thereās a female finch
Or⦠Was it lynch
Nvm itās lynch
Still WHO is she?
I'm not entirely sure what the Hierarchy of the AHA is but iirc Finch was the former AHA executive and Chary is the current executive
Ik that
Lynch isn't human, that much is true
A witch whoās apparently guiding the downed
Drowned*
I think sheās the second voice we hear in the drowned ratās chapters
she's an important character in the fictional "As Bad As They Seem" story
Peh⦠I barely have been reading up on thoseā¦
I'd rather watch than read
I soak information better when it's visual
I'm curious about Chary's phobia of clouds
When Finch and Chary have their brief conversation in Chapter 10 of the Tide of Corruption story, Finch brings it up
Right⦠I never read those wax cylinder chapters
"I heard you were afraid of clouds, is that true?" he asked me. Pain flared in my leg at the thought, but his inquiry did not warrant a response. He was just trying to hurt my feelings."
Finch is dead and drowned, Chary turned to ash
lol they'll be back
speaking of Chary and Finch
When Chary signed onto the AHA Finch and him had an exquisite meal
They mention it in Chapter 10
Roasted duck and veggies with presumably orange sauce and powdered beignets for dessert
Hhh⦠damn I could use some beignets after my flu subsides
You sick too?
Yes.
Feels bad but I can empathize
I'm just now getting over a virus of something nasty myself
pretty sure Finch just had special blood, he doesn't know ritual magic like Chary
Apparently his blood was enough to break the murmurstone
Hmmā¦
Hmm
Right now it seems like the only playable legendary that's officially, permanently dead is Black Coat
Unless I'm mistaken
You'd think they'd lie about killing him?
The researcher Harold black (or whatever his name is, that guy with the glasses) seems to think so
Joined the demented
Also the lore mentions that uh
The Butcher obsessed hunter isn't the leader of the demented any more
Did the last event's story explain what happened?
Someone mentioned he was eaten alive by those stalker beetles
Ahhh
It seems a group like the Demented are destined to rotate leadership.... Fairly often
Fairly often?
As in, their leaders probably die often lol
It's more just speculation that a group like demented is destined to have people die a lot
That's all
Oh
Lynch looked to the sky. Flicked a knife at the Moon. No ma'am you may NOT
The story bad as they seem is a fictionalized retelling of the lives of the twins. The in-universe author likely exaggerated the confrontation he & the twins had. So itās less the twins lied and more an author changing up a story for whatever reason
And charyās up there fighting the moon now too (she has to be kicking his ass lmao)
Sheās more important in earlier lore, sheās been out of the action for a while.
She had been pretty high up in the AHA and is one of the reasons for why the schism happened. Like she got huff killed and stuff. She also recruited people (like the phantom, also the twins)
How come we donāt see the twins at all?
Shrug emoji. Theyāre referenced a lot by people in earlier lore but have yet to come up recently
With lynch coming back into the narrative we might see them sometime soon
Next quest perhaps. Like with the Reptilian quest.
maybe
also the confirmation that the beekeeper is a mother. man she might take the cake for worst mom in hunt
So I read the last couple of Chapters, that were posted earlier, and am I just confused or did we not get real conclusion again?
yea it seems really open ended
I think??? the drowned are less zombified now????
a mosquito landing on the rat's cheek to drink her blood makes me think that she's prob less rotting now
okay
yeah the mosquito makes sense if they are less drowned I guess
last couple of chapters left a bit wired tho but maybe that's just me
I wonder if the tailcoat guy will play a role in the future since he only was only here briefly and seems to know way more then he should
I think just an overall epilogue would be nice
like... what actually just happened? lol
yeah exactly
do we even know what has changed now?
Oh shoot this place is full of spoilers now
Seeya when the lore is completed here š
Is chary like fucking vector from despicable me?
lmao
I think the moon took the opportunity to kick his ass
he got dematerialized and she was like "my turn now"
āMf you got lucky with my champion Iām gonna do it myself nowā
š
I aināt even got all the chapters I been way far behind this event
That makes sense
Black Coat canonically is somebody who screwed over everybody he met, so it's very likely he's dead imo
I mean we see he's not as of ToC (tho his status by the end is questionable, maybe he died maybe he didn't, we'll hopefully find out at some point lol)
Mhmm
Next event: "I beat the moon in a fistfight"
Probably pretty easy tbh as the moon doesn't have fists
Well the Captain is dead-dead, having reunited with the Delphine's Ghost. The Beekeeper may be more or less dead, having been at ground zero for the big booms.
The Moon is one big fist.
Yeah actually whatās up with the moon?
Is it like actually alive in hunt?
If not whatās up with that whole champion thing
If soā¦. What the fuck how the fuck is the moon Alive
Oh and another thing if itās alive
How alive is it
Is it like.. killable?
I would say the moon is more like a deity of sorts or at least a being of power similar to the sculptor
Probably a better explanation
Chary was also siphoning her power
High guys, I'm currently in the process of making a document with the full lore on the game, with the wikia, website and game as sources. Would you be interested in it if I posted it here in the future?
And the sculptor already weakened her I think. Thereās mentions to how she was getting corrupted due to the sculptorās influence
That was serpents right? Thatās why the moon was green or whatever?
Oh yeah
Also ābrother betrayed brotherā thatās Cain
Because Cain in the bible or whatever did that took a page right out of rust and bludgeoned his brother to death with a rock
Sure, it's the best place for it
So I assume the Cain in hunt has a similar backstory
wait! Chary's first name is Orwell?
Yes, but I don't think that was ever mentioned again.
Can someone give me a quick TL;DR of Tides of Shadow for me?
The Delphine is carrying the Murmurstone. It ends up in the Land of the Dead. Chary(?) "helps" the crew get back to reality. This requires Rotjaw and the Murmurstone.
Back in reality there is a big melee involving Rotjaw and by extension the Murmurstone. Gar banishes Rotjaw back to the Land of the Dead and the Demented pact show up to take advantage of the chaos.
Rotjaw's travels are responsible for the rain(?).
the rat's also killed in the big final showdown
The Land of the Dead is now having an unnatural effect on the Bayou. The veil between worlds is breaking down.
So I know he dematerialized, but I must have missed the bit talking about the moon now beating the crap out of him.
Pretty sure it's a joke, for now.
Ah, gotcha. My brain has been fried from work/holidays and I'm only skimming over the chapters y'all are posting here
I got the impression one of the Spine Altars was dragging him back to the LotD.
nice name
approved
when she enters the land of the dead daughter of decay muses how she hears chary's laugh around her and thinks he's fighting the moon
Ah, I hadn't seen that.
I don't think he has the tiniest chance of taking the Moon's place. He's probably fighting to remain intact.
Whose kid is her? Do we know?
We donāt
She could be referring to her bees for all we know
Odds are good the identity of her daughter is irrelevant.
Yeah i think her daughter just left her
Since she seems to be kinda bitter abt that
I mean I think one part talked about her putting bees around her like new born daughter
And them crawling inside or something
I wouldnāt want that to by my mom either
Her daughter chose self care š
If my mom was demented pact I'd probably leave her too
Although if I were to determine a pact for my mom she'd probably be Infernal
I love my mom more than anything but she can be pretty devious and cunning when she wants to be
Uh to the lore people here, i want to get into the lore entirely, how and where do i start?
Just start here:
https://huntshowdown.fandom.com/wiki/Lore
What does the writing on the special ammo boxes mean?
Wait I think that template just answered my question
AHA
Correct. It stands for American Hunter Association
Yeah
Imagine if the story carried over into WWI. No manās lands, trenches, the weapons. Hellhounds galore and āangelsā appearing on occasion to assist. All the unique guns too
It's offtopic but i suggest you to give the tabletop game "Forbidden Psalm - The Last War" a look, it have the settings you are looking for š
Sounds cool!
Iām also a little confused as to the hunters taking meds before going into the bayou, but thereās so much going on and it seems like some of them just donāt leave, or they donāt leave soon enough to avoid being affected by the corruption
the way I understood it is that some humans are just born hunters, or suffered through hardships in their lives(?), so they are capable of withstanding the corruption (for a time?)
that's how I understood how it used to work until the AHA found a way to turn the bounty tokens into some sort of antidote with beneficial side effects
so after some development and a few tragedies (origin of the meatheads) they reached the state when everyone could get an injection of the good old bayou stuff and be protected against the corruption
anything in regards to time spent in the dead zone is a bit wired and changes sometime if I remember right.
In one entry the Researcher writes about spending 40 minutes in it to inspect an armored and putting it dangerously close and then there's Salter who straight up "lived" there for a prolonged time.
Yeah thatās why Iām so confused because the lore shows people that seem to only remain in the bayou. But most of those have been changed by it already, like Gar and Reptilian
yeah I get you
don't think we'll ever get a proper answer on this since I believe most of the short time limiting stuff in the lore was to explain why a match can only last for an hour, and they even changed that so I would try to seperate short time spend in the zone to gameplay explanations and long time spend to like actuall lore stuff
but that's just the way I take it
Do we know who Charlie Salter is? His name keeps popping up in some of the lore
I think he's the brother of William Salter
don't know if there is more than that tho
well William certainly won't
i think its because most bounty people only assume someone can survive there for less than an hour. If you don't get back within then, your assumed dead.
I'm not that knowledgeable about Salter's but to still give you a real answer I can only suggest watching Hazmat's video on William https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXeg1F9fnrY
A horrible, yet somewhat fascinating tale from within the bayous.

Does anyone know the lore on the souls of a feather DLC? like in depth?
do you mean Besides their DLC descriptions and their short appearance in the event chapters?
I guess? All I've really read is the steam page for the DLC, wasn't satisfied, wanted to know more about the Demented pact and their relationship to eachother
In that case I don't think we have much on them tbh. Maybe the mastery entries for the current event weapons will have something related to them after the event or future skins may relate to them.
other than that I don't know, but they are fairly new so maybe they come up again
They like to caw and have a pet crow with no wings that they let play with piglets
lmfao

i notice that most of the demented pact hunter are people with mental trauma or just crazy.
cain = mad man, killed his blood relative
beast hunter = nightmare and crazy ambition to tame zombie hound,
ochenkov widow = dead husband and devil moon event,
scarecrow = goes crazy from watching so many people die around him
So when Moorhound and Iron bark released I made assumptions that the next wild target would be canine themed, we also got that twitch drop charm that looked like the jaw of a small canine-like creature.
I've also heard dubious amounts of low-pitched barely recognizable dog-like growls while playing on the new Ash bloom wild card but only when I'm alone as a solo or away from the group I'm playing
I'm still curious to know if our next wild target will be something akin to canine mythical beasts such as Cusith from Irish folklore or Garmr from Norse myth
I think the chance of us getting some sort of wolfy target in the future is high
I had the same thought progress
and man ash bloom is so filled with strange noises that I can't really make out much of what I'm even hearing
Iād love a werewolf where itās clearly a person whoās in this in-between stage bc not even the sculptor could make a human rly turn into a wolf and it just looks gross and painful
It would have to be something like a werewolf right, something human based? since dogs get turned into hell hounds I would guess that standard wolves would too?
Not a werewolf but rather something more concrete and historically mythological
That is what I'm hoping for anyways
I mean Louisiana has rougarous
Which are basically just werewolves lol
I think tho that weāll likely see something more interesting than just a straight up wolf monster tho
I say that when rotjaw was just a big gator (in a cool way), so who knows šš
Here are my top 4 picks for it to be based off of.
- El Chupacabra from South America
- Garmr from Norse
- Cusith from Scotland and Ireland
- Cerbeus from Greek
Cusith looks like heād give you life advice and file taxes
Wise old beast of the wilds, however he is cunning and like every beast has a insatiable bloodlust
So he can give wisdom?
The chupacabra is just my aunts 14 year old hairless chihuahua
And Cerberus is just my dog when she moves fast so it looks like she has multiple heads idk
Your dog has 3 heads?!
Yours doesnāt?
I think sheās a special breed or something
I don't own a dog
According to recent event lore there seems to be a considerably large emphasis on insects and other related creatures and this has been evident since Tide of Shadows, possibly even before that. So a possible insect type wild target could also be in the near future.
Recently I've also heard more talk of potential flying enemies which got me thinking a wild target akin to something like the Twilight bloat fly from The Legend of Zelda Twilight princess would be a really cool edition to the Bayou in Hunt Showdown.
not only recently, if I remember right insects and such are like the main thing of the sculpture
the entries about grunts talked about insects and larvae maybe spreading this plague
we obviously have the hives, the leeches on the meatheads, the assassin being made out of bugs so it's definitely a consisting theme
and I would definitely like to see more insects based monsters but I do know some people who have big problems with insects.
hell one of my mates will never enter the spider lair as long as it's alive so i wonder how many people would be grossed out by big insects attacking them
(Tho I haven't heard any complaints about the beetles in that sense)
ups

I'm really sorry, dyslexia + second language is a bad mix
You're doing pretty good for being second language, don't beat yourself up
thank you
still was pretty embarrassing
I thought Daughter of Decay was stupid
I mean she is Felis's apprentice
Yet she goes around telling Mr.Chary that he is stupid
Wdym?
When she meets him she goes like UwU you're doing dumb things you suck
Yeah its because she's Grounded
Lunar Pact and Grounded Pact don't like Infernal Pact
In fact Infernal Pact is basically running solo
Even the Demented Pact doesn't like Chary and the Infernal
Not sure what Smugglers or Primal thinks
I'm assuming they're indifferent
How many pacts we got now?
Let's see...
Yes, yes, nobody likes Mr.Chary
What does it have to do with Daughter of Decay acting patronising to him?
Well I'm confused
You're saying Daughter of Decay is stupid for disliking Mr. Chary and that she's Felis' apprentice which I don't think is actually true
If I remember correctly Felis' has ties to Doctor John and might be his apprentice(?)
Daughter of Decay is just a hunter pledged to Grounded
Only connection I remember was that Felis gave her a Berthier (the skin from Daughter's DLC) so they do have history
Yeah I know about the Berthier lore
Felis gives gifts all the time
She gave dusters to Reptilian
oh really?
I didn't know that
She's quite the generous little cat
Yeah Felis is Primal pact
Which leads me to believe that Primal pact and Lunar pact are working together
Since Felis has ties to Doctor John and Doctor John is most definitely Lunar pact or at least he assists and supports them
Doctor John assisted Lunar pact and told them about the flower that weakens Chary in Devil's moon story
On a side note we have a total of 8 different pacts now
Likely more on the way
No, I just thought she was generally stupid
As in not knowing what goes on the bayo
Yet she goes and talks to Mr.Chary like they're equals
Chary who clearly knows wtf is going on
Not knowing every intricate detail of something as confusing as the current events in bayou and being stupid is not the same
What pact is the Santa clause in š¤£
Probably a solo hunter
Or maybe Grounded
St. Nicholas strikes me as someone who would care and defend the Earth
I think in one of the event trailers Santa Clause is rolling with Grounded hunters
Ready yourselves to rise against the Tide of Desolation. Brave your way through the fog to uncover new weapons, gain dark powers, and discover the nightmare rising from the bayou's soil. šā ļø

Yeah in this trailer Santa is running with Teche Wraith and Daughter of Decay
So Santa Chad earth defender confirmed šŖ š
Hell yeah Santa
Redneck strikes me as a grounded guy too
he was in Lunar pact in Devil's moon if I remember right
What do they believe in
the lunar peeps just follow kev, they more or less wanted to save the moon
they were the more or less "good" faction
grounded was supposed to be neutral, and infernal evil
Ahh gotcha
I'm not entirely sure if it would
Having the world as it is best suits the Infernal pact
Chaotic with a hint of control
They thrive on chaotic situations since they're all opportunists but too much chaos and nobody gets anything
Heās also seen with the rest of the grounded in some other promotional material
so what happened between the events that butcher's cleaver isnt the leader of the demented pact anymore?
the rest of the demeted think he failed them
yeah saw that in a loading screen tip
why tho
what happened
pretty much he failed to let them become better versions of the bosses
he also lost a fight to chary
they were attacked by infernal pact and lost the fight
He let the infernal pact steal the murmurstone specifically
I thought Sofia destroyed the stone using the silver vials Finch gave her
Yeah, that was after the infernal stole it tho
It went:
on the Delphine
butcherās cleaver finds it
demented pact use it
infernal pact fights demented for it
burnt Marshall gets it
BM delivers it to chary
chary uses it to make LotD portal
sofia destroys it
LotD portal is the Graven path correct?
I donāt think so
Chary used rotjawās cage to make his portal
He was making his own personal portal and Sofia destroyed it
I think the graven path sprung up bc of it but wasnāt the original portal
Apparently Murmurstone is using Drowned to bring itself back to Earth
I figured he was a lot more busy down in Kingsnake mine aside from trying to weaponize grunts
Also Butcher's Cleaver really was set up to fail
During his fight with Chary, Chary even tells him that they're not the Sculptor's chosen because the Infernal pact also receives the blessings
Demented pact as a whole really is a lost cause, all Butcher's Cleaver did was come across the scraps of a fight from Tide of shadows, picked up a blade, and assumed the position of leader to a bunch of lunatics
Him and his maniacs then proceed to get totally rinsed by the much more organized and disciplined Infernal pact and their holy relic is stolen and then destroyed by another group entirely
I don't think murmurstone is destroyed
Butcher's cleaver is then tortured to death by his own group for failing to secure their "divine right"
Also the Rat doesn't have mexican accent
She's Cuban iirc
Oh so she's Italian? š
I think sheās supposed to be Mexican, āburied her father in an unmarked grave on the borderā makes me assume probs Texas/Mexico
Well, the Rat and Sofia sure are
Iirc murmurstone got either stolen or stickybombed
Beetle bomb combo
Iād assume llorona as well, yea
Sofia's accent doesn't sound Mexican. Maybe that was an accent from 125 years ago. Like when you hear US Radio brodcasts from the 20, 30s.
I thought at end of ToC Death pact shot the murmurstone with something with Finches blood. Or were they shooting at Chary?
Are there any good lore youtubers
wait, i am at chapter twelve...whos lynch? ive read about her but cant remember much about her
IIRC, she mainly appears in "Bad As They Seem", is not quite human, and while she is opposed to the Sculptor she isn't on humanity's side.
Yeah basically sums up Lynch
Question. Is this zombie disease a plague or something more otherworldly?
Otherwordly
It's not just a mere sickness but it's the biproduct of sinister rituals
Voodoo and eldritch intervention is likely to blame
HazmatFTW
Ty
How did the redneck last so long on his own at moses poultry
Is he just built like that or is there some lore reasoning
Heās just built different
I have a theory that those who are exposed to dirt more than those who arent have stronger immune systems (did you eat dirt as a child or not, basically) and I'm sure that dude ate a whole lotta dirt. But in the end, yeah, dude is built different. Just look at him! Running around with a whole nip out there in the open. If I was the sculptor I'd also go nope, let's not turn that one into a grunt.
He's just living life high on his own moonshine.
Feel sorry for poor Redshirt. No idea if he's won his bet and keeps going back for fun or his friend keeps moving the goalposts.
redshirt probably dead by now....lost the bet
A legend never dies... š¢
He knows that if you're going to be seen, you damn well look good doing it.
He lived long enough for his story to be spread and for him to design his custom dynamit stick in response
Wait- legendary dynamite?
It sounds like he won the initial bet but he decided to keep going
He makes dynamite wrapped in playing cards, itās called the overcall
Added an update or two ago
Ooh, first I've heard of that š
(But then I have been away since Scaled Ward)
Can someone please explain the Drowned Pact a little to me please? Rat is my favorite hunter to play, and I'm unsure if Drowned Rat is more evil aligned at the moment
No, not necessarily more evil.
Itās more like half alive version since she did ādieā at the end of Tide of Shadows
And their goal is well not to be drowned is the way I understood their personal motivation.
They're the same people, they were released upon the bayo by the murmurstone to bring it back
They don't have a choice in the matter, they sometimes lose control of themselves and do their objectives
Thanks!!
I like this section. š¤
None of the pacts save for Demented are inherently good or evil they all just have their own goals
I guess from a scale of 1 through 10
Good being 1 and evil being 10
Grounded is 1
Demented is 10
Isn't grounded more neutral? I was expecting Lunar to be the lowest at 2 or so
I'd put lunar at 2 because we don't entirely know what the moon's intentions are they seem good but it could be a guise for a much more sinister goal
grounded was originally neutral/not involved but I guess since things further deteriorated they evolved and could no longer sit everything out
Yeah, blasƩly trusting the moon seems like a bad idea to me, too
The serpent moon charm talks about how snakes are hardly the worst thing the moon can produce
So it's my assumption that her power is on par or even greater than that of the Sculptor's
If her ultimate goal were to assume the position as Sculptor than that would be bad
Death Pact are the people who were forcefully ejected back into the living world by Death, to fix the mess Chary caused with the Delphine.
Drowned Pact are people who escaped from the Land of the Dead through the holes in the veil Chary caused, and they aren't as... Stable as the Death Pact revenants are.
Or that's my understanding.
This is awesome! Thank you
Demented pact aren't evil, they're just crazy
Also I feel kinda bummed that Llorona has nothing to do with drowned pact
It's her main shtick after all
She's in league with Chary and fights alongside Burnt Marshall
In my head Canon Llorona and Burnt Marshall are romantic but that's not Canon at all
Demented Pact are definitely evil they're going around murdering and torturing people for the sake of the Sculptor and the Sculptor is not a benevolent entity by any means
My understanding was Drowned pact had something to do with Lynch
Since Lynch is like some sea witch now or something
what guns are those from?
"one night waits" and "And treading once the road of Lethi"
Im wondering, what are the known gangs/pacts and what do they fight for.
Like I know grounded wants people to stay dead, demented are nuts but idk on infenal and such
So did Hornskin confirm die last event?
I thought the wording was ambiguous
But now she's Drowned
Death pact aren't undead
They're just people who want to restore the natural order of death
Hail Mary and Mama Maye and the Grace digger dude all aren't undead
Even reaper isn't
the grandma hunter also are not dead. they just want death to be a permanent thing
Iām not even sure if Sofia is considered dead
can someone explain lore to me
They are, itās the first thing established about them. Itās just different from the drowned
The drowned are very specific: itās laffite, the thirteenth mate, the rat, and the kid. Lynch made then so she could have them gather up other pacts and sacrifice them to the big bug growing in the mound
The drowned pact seems to involve more hunters who are sympathetic to them (including the deckhand and the hornskin but theyāre never mentioned in the event so that could just be gameplay benefits only stuff)
But the death pact are immediately established to have died, but before they entered the land of the dead, death was like āno, back to life to fix this this for me. Thanksā
First entry in TOC is Sofia saying what Smalls says. Tho, part of me wonders if all the hunters are suffering from deaths/rebirths and these guys are just extra fed up with it
The fact that the revenant wasnāt leading the death pact or at least mentioned is wild
Still wild
Even post event
I hadn't considered that. He'd be with the Bone Doc,
righ?
who, if Felis is to be followed, is now in charge of the primal
I hope they do an arc with Bone Dr. He was a fav of mine when I first started playing
Mmmm
Maybe death pact are more the "standard" type of undead
As in, revived hunters
Idk
They're not characters where specifically being undead is a big part of their backstory
Which is why I was confused
revenant would never be with death pact
Yeah considering if death was restored to it's natural state he wouldn't be around lol
I think the revenant is a different sort of undead-- Death fully rejected the death of the deaths of the death pact whereas the revenant was raised by the dead by a human actor (night speaker)
death pact for all intents and purposes are living lives as normal humans and have a specific goal (setting the natural order of death back). revenant is a zombie
True, kinda hard to say "we're restoring death to natural state" when you have a corpse with a hole in his chest with you...
We donāt have enough info about him post-rez to know if he wants to be undead, it seems like he just might be a voodoo type zombie that follows orders
Included in the TOC story is that Death is running low on "death" of the kind the Pact want- didn't know being truly dead is a finite resource but apparently it is, which is maybe how hunters come back over and over
Reread the TOC story and now i want 2 things- 1, for DA to get an alt version with a carved gator mask, and 2, a spiderman meme moment where a hunter runs into themselves
him following orders is the most likely scenario for him (w a potential of a storyline of him gaining agency, but shrug emoji there) which is why I don't see him falling in line w the death pact
I'd figure he's kinda akin to the Widow
he seems mostly tied up with the night of the hunter cult and so we have the greatest chance of seeing him there if we get another storyline progressing them
I think the only actual agency we see him have is reclaiming his gun from the bar tender
trailers seem to be really shaky with how canon they can be considered too tbh
like w the tide of desolation one having the demented getting wiped lmao
Something happened to the coal bearerās reindeer⦠most likely murdered, by who or what, canāt say for sure. But this seems to affect the dude no doubt
I too wouldn't be glad if someone killed my raindeer
waldman probably
What wars has Sgt. Bridgewater served in?
Considering the game takes place in late 1895 and Bridgewater appears to be in his 40s, maybe early 50s, that'd put his year of birth around 1840s-1850s which does open up the possibility of being present in mid-late Civil War.
However considering the description of the Honor Above skin (Colt Model 1892) he seems to have been in the Army (and actively involved in conflict) until at least 1892.
His equipment seems to be 1878 Pattern or 1894 Pattern, his uniform is weird and seems to be a mix of civil war infantry and 1870s/80s US Army infantry uniforms.
yea, fighting in the indian wars is prob most likely for him
that's what I'm thinking
he looks too young to have been in the civil war to me, I think he looks more like he's in his early 30s rather than 40s or 50s personally
but figuring out ages for hunters based on their models is impossible lmao, never forget that kevin is 14 and the viper is 27
ah
Forget not everyone is familiar with US history
^^ but yeah, he's likely a Buffalo Soldier that more became a thing post Civ War, they fought against the Natives and the name comes from their hair being similar to that of a buffalo's
Be cool if Crytek was a bit more clear on the background of some of the folks based on real life things so you can look it up to find out more info
(I will be honest in saying that there is also an entirely real potential that he was not made with any real war in mind and was just like vaguely mid-late 1800s american soldier man)
I'm somewhat familiar with major conflicts involving the US, but was not aware of Buffalo Soldiers.
possible, but with others being based off real life things, I suspect thats what he is based on
All good!
giving him a Spencer 1882 is a bit weird though
i cant find anything about the gun being bought by the US Army.
Probably dude took what he could get, I dont think they were well funded and got the newest shiny things
The description of his navy states that exact thing^
The description of his Spencer shotgun says it is Standard Issue
He really should have a Springfield, but presumably crytek didn't do that for getting people to buy the DLC reasons
the auto-5 has an incorrect reload and it pisses me off
Ah. I'm not the most knowledgeable on the weapons and wouldn't have noticed an incorrect load or such
I just have a light knowledge of US history from highschool years ago lol
I have general knowledge of US history from reading
this game is gonna get me collecting the weapons from it and im so determined not to.. tho I do want to get a real bomb lance (minus the bomb) made
we don't really get much into it here other than the American Revolutionary War, WW2 and Cold War here.
Fair, and why would you?
I happened to take a US history college level class in HS and had a really dope teacher that taught in a way that it all stuck
and iirc I do think the formation of the US was mentioned somewhere in school
but my knowledge of the rest of the world is kinda lacking due to that
Prolly
Europe was kinda involved in some of that lmao
But tracks why Buffalo soldier isnt something you'd know
I assume you're familiar with KoÅciuszko and Pulaski.
I am not, actually. Will have to do a read up :3 Still, would be neat to see some kind of name drop to help folks get an idea of what a character is meant to be based off. Fire Marshal was a good way to do it- you knew where to look to find out why he is dressed as he is
the googly eyed tin can
JK Pulaski I do know
Had to revive the info
Oh well that's interesting then, two Polish generals that served in the American Revolutionary War
JK?
just kidding
ah
is it bad I first learned about buffalo soldiers from Marley
What I like about new hunters is that they tend to have pistols on them
Only Llorona used to do that

Made a tier list for most of the main lore of Hunt. Tell me where I'm right and where I'm wrong š¤ ā¤ļø

The Spanish American war and Korean war are two huge ones for U.S. History
The French-Indian war is also pretty big and some history classes teach about it and some don't
Considering the French-Indian war was a war fought before the colonies declared independence
i know
as I said I have a general knowledge of US history
I hope at some point we get a Spanish-American war themed hunter
Polish hunter when
The skins I'd want for such a hunter would be a Springfield M1892 Krag, Pax Supershot and a Ammo box skin.
As I recall Louisiana is an American state
where is the U.S. Army?
This we'll defend!
Bridgewater more or less has all the correct military dress for 1895
There'd be some things I'd change differently but for the most part Bridgewater is fine
But I'd love to see more military hunters come out like a Prussian themed hunter
1895 was an extremely historical time for armed forces across the world
The Khaki uniform in the first picture I sent is more or less what'd I love to see on a hunter
I'd buy that in a heart beat
Say why DO the grounded want to look for the source of the corruption?
Probably to exterminate it and attempt to return the land back to it's former state
The Grounded pact are basically environmentalists if they didn't whine or throw food on paintings
Their biggest goal is to preserve the natural way of life and the Earth's green
yep, around that year is the moment almost every gunmaker started to adapt smokeless gunpowder in their gun design too....
at closer inspection I had no idea Thorax brew had actual bees on it
at least I think those are supposed to be bees and not little ornate statues
Then I will be your tour guide š
Looks more like flies
Would be cool if they crawled around
So the Sculptor is a loa, and something just came to me when looking into the Loa.
I think the Black Coat might be possessed by Baron Criminel, the Loa envisioned as the first murderer, who's attributes are a Black tailcoat and top hat, cigar, bottle of wine. There might be more characters related to other Loa too (like the twins possibly being tied to Marassa Jumeaux)
No, devs made a point that these entities aren't loa
Yeah, sculptor is meant to be Cthulhu vibes. If anything, our 2 (maybe 3) special folks Chary Lynch and maybe this Duke could be stand ins for Loa- Maman for Lynch (Irish Woman), Chary is Papa Legba (Cane), and if this new player is the Duke , he may be the Baron S (tailcoats, name... not sure tho). But yeah, Hunt has seemed to move away from the voodoo elements- we haven't had anything with the Bone Doc and no new letters to the woman who was the Voodoo queen or anything.
They're definitely bees if you look close enough
I think voodoo does have a place in hunt since it is a belief system practiced in the area, but I think it needs to be handled with care and understanding that crytek might not be able to properly show, so I'm not too upset about them moving more away from it personally
I'd love to see more on the bone doctor's group but I'd also like to see them work with people actually in the culture to represent it properly
Agreed. I'm still mildy sus of some of the connections some of our more powerful folks show, esp now that Lynch is raising folks (After all, Maman Bri is loa of the underworld) but also fairly sure that's not an intended link.
I feel the same about the Christian and Germanic culture present in the game
I'd love an event story about Hail Mary or Reverend
Last time I think we saw anything about Hail Mary was Serpent moon
I think they're a lot better equipped to handle those two for sure
I'd like to see more of hail mary
Honestly I like the Cthulhu love craftian vibes we're seeing in the game
Some great potential with it
I remember seeing Apocrypha for the first time in Skyrim and being like "oh hell yeah this is some love craftian shit right here"
I hope to see something similar for the land of the dead
The inner workings of multi-dimensional planar existences in alternate realities or timezones are something that greatly interest me
Older games from Treyarch like Jurassic the hunted and the wildly acclaimed Call of duty zombies series had stuff like time vortex and german scientists trying to figure out time travel and what not
This is me literally me š
I'm listening to Skyrim 30 hour ambience for relaxation and study
lmao
Look dreams are just messages from the deep and I intend on finding how deep I can go
I'm talking twenty thousand leagues under the sea
I would also love to see a pact with Bone doc at the core, with Voodoo coming back around but done right, obv
I'm going to subnautica this shit fr fr
Phase gate portal here I come
I will discover the precursors of this universe and the next
All of them to be precise
Anyway
I'm done romanticizing my melancholic solitude now
are you tho
[Lie] Yes, totally!
I just came to the realization that Witch hunter kinda looks like Helga from Atlantis
She even uses a Dolch in the movie š
Whoah they have so much in common
They're both women
And uhhhh
Oh, that seems to be it
Weird
š bad day?
That ain't a Dolch. Otherwise there's a similarity.
I feel like a Dolch would fit perfectly for Witch hunter
I'd say a Pax tbh.
It's literally a C96
It ain't.
They're talking about what Witch hunter is carrying in the left picture
Helga does use a C96 though
Crudely drawn C96
But still technically a C96
It doesn't look like one, so chances are it's a similar gun.
Witch hunter uses a Berthier and a Nagant officer
Is Witch Hunter even carrying a handgun in that picture???
It's a C96 or at the very least it's the 1930 Spanish mauser
No that'd be a Berthier
Berthier deadeye to be exact
I meant like- I don't see any pistol on her person.
I don't know why but in animated media people don't really draw the C96 correctly but honesu I doubt I could either
Atlantis takes place in 1914 so probably not the 1930
CGI handgun jumpscare
The way he pulls back the hammer is fine but that is a looooong hammer
No it's not CGI it's definitely drawn because it's animated with the figure
But its just not drawn great
If you want an even worse looking drawing of a Mauser C96 read the manga lmao
Any idea where this arrowhead could be from?
I thought it was native american, but apparently they weren't keen to metallurgy at the time
No clue, but but the year is 1895 and native americans were able to produce works of metallurgy. As for if they were keen on it I'm still unsure.
That charm however, emphasizes the fact that an arrow head has more history than the bullet, but give or take a few 100 years or more and the bullet will have more history than the arrow head.
considering he has tonics and brews strapped on him like a porcupine has quills I'd think he was an crippling alcoholic
his reddish nose does indicate some form of alcoholism
Does any know where else I can find information about Sheriff Hardin within the lore? So far I have:
- The letters of Russell "Snakeskin" Chambers.
- The confession of Sheriff Hardin, part 1 and 2.
- His bio.
- Legendary weapons: Brassflower & The Noose.
The Q&A from during the moon stuff
or before TOS i think
Ah that's what I was missing. Knew there was another new one with him but couldn't find the page and figured I'd just imagined it
Doesn't he pop up somewhere or at least mentioned by the Pinkerton chick who's name currently escapes me?
Hawkshaw's gal
think it's just in passing tho, not really lore
He's mentioned in the Winnie trauma
Oh yeah
Heās also in the scottfield either spitfire or swift lore
And then in the scottfield dum dum researchers note
Mentions he worked w the wives after hunting them down
ok yeah it was both the swift and spitfire
"The glory and riches of Rotjaw's perpetual banning are unparralleled." Well, I guess that further settles that debate.
Thank you @granite shard @real dove
I'm here to be a walking encyclopedia š
he's also not rly there but there's a reference to the recruitment of kids he did in one of the event lore chapters
Yup yup. Looked over most everything not long ago for the timeline so pretty fresh on it lol
He's def a key part of the aha
I love the AHA interviews, especially the Reptilian's. Tries to stab his interviewer with a pen.
"I want to know what sort of person looks at me and thinks; this here be a friend'."
I KNOW. I wish they'd do more like that
gives the hunters character
like, I love how they are telling the stories now, but gimme lil bits like that too
I stand corrected, he tried to bite the interviewer, then ended the interview by stabbing them in the eye with a pen.
He watched the Batman movie
"Took an eel bath once. Y'know them Water Devil kind. Found a whole gaggle of 'em squriming in a bathtub near the mines. Ended up eating a few."
Man is savage.
Dude was killing gators and kissing the corpses and shit thinking that he was bringing Rj into the world so he's not exactly sane up there
Not sure sanity really factors into the bayou anymore.
It's probably why we don't have a sanity system.
But that would explain how the Scaled Ward exists... š
Any man that looks as a group of water devils and thinks āthems good eatināā isnāt well š
boil em, mash em, put em in a stew! and what is bathtub but a big stew pot, esp in those days when they were usually metal?
The Scaled Ward just watching the Reptilian wade out of the bayou waters, biting the head off of a Water Devil and chewing on it as he goes.
it's swamp gum
We all know the Reptilian straight up dived into the water, wrestled a croc and emerged with his new coat on. š
*gator but yeah, probably lol. would recc getting a cured hide over a raw one if you want to look like him
stinky man
When the bayou finally settles down, the Scaled Ward is probably just going to open a leatherwork shop for selling boots and handbags.
Really hope Scaled Ward comes back in future, never got him...
Do we know what happened to Avis Jr? Last we see in Scrapbeak's lore is that he's discussing with his atorney about how he's going to court for murders in the bayou that are Beaky's doing.
not that I know of
š ... I'll make him into a Legendary Hunter.
So, considering Chary's blown a hole in the veil and... It's implied something horrible and inivisble to humans is now walking the bayou in the Ash Bloom...
How are things going to get even worse in future?
Iirc something's been coming out or trying to break out of kingsnake
I wouldn't mind if we slowly dipped further into Eldritch Horror territory.
The big thing is The Sculptor has intelligent design. It wouldn't make anything that's random
I don't think the widow was ever trying to break out specifically
chary had experimented on her prior to SM and I think he just like
set her free to clean up his loose ends
We knew there was something in KSM that was making noises
is it not confirmed to have been her?
when was this?
the main thing I can think of when it comes to shit in KSM is mary at the end of SM
up until the graven path opened up
bababa Serpent moon i think, need to go check. I remember them being in KSM
ah reading
lol
yea I think it was just chary was using that as his base of operations for the time and had likely begun his experiments on her by then
and then took advantage of that to have her clean up the proto lunar pact
There was someone ā something ā in the mine. Deep. Trapped. Keening with grief and rage.
yeah, CHP 14
agreed on break out of KSM. there was some thing in there- Mary, and then maybe a small portal into the LOD that was blasted open later
I'm not up to date on the current event, and so not sure what all has happened in KSM post TOD end, outside of Graven path appearing and folks going down it
it's never existed on the map prior to ToD so it's likely from sofia destroying the murmurstone
I'm curious to know if Sofia used her Vetterli marksman to destroy it using the silver vials
Or if she just taped them to the end of her crossbow bolts since she owns a crossbow now too
pretty sure it was the crossbow
yea -- "Sofia rose from the creek flotsam, dripping, her skull-face looming behind a crossbow."
It implies that this particular arrowhead took quite an amount of lives
So Hardin can issue a 1500$ bounty, but not get a man through winter?
Speaking of the interviews I think they should do some more with the pact people during events
I would LOVE to see a interview with the drowned kid or beekeeper lady or like anyone from the pacts
(Mostly the drowned kid but yāknow)
Give us a little more insight into the event lore by giving us a better look into some of the characters
it's such nice supplementary material I agree 90000%
it would be cool too for some of the pact aligned characters that aren't part of the story
like why's the hornback hanging out w the drowned?
True
Maybe not the beekeeper then maybe focus on the characters that are there but not the main focus
The captain the kid other demented pact other grounded pact etc
Because we do get more insight into the characters that speak
I figure Hardin started out as official sheriff of Louisiana
Then Marshal Brewer on the behest of AHA got him framed and he's gone rogue, still trying to help people of Lousiana
I don't know why, but I had a feeling Felis would be a primal pact
He's the sheriff of the parish /new orleans
Something that ive never understood, wth is the bounty?
just got the last lore entry for the event. does anyone else feel like this story for this event just kinda ||culminated into nothing||?
Thereās not really a solid conclusion
It would benefit from an epilogue or something
I believe it's a reference the the 'Utah monolith' a metal pillar like the one in the game that someone placed for unknown reasons
I figured it might have lore relevance
Nah, itās a reference.
Utah Monolith, there's a few others around the country, for awhile there people thought aliens put them there but naturally someone came out and disproved it.
It feels more like a set up, they show us some new things, some characters do some things and we might see what happens on the next trilogy
Yo guys! Are there more playable hunters that are like cultists to a boss other than the lil butcher and the birds? I was thinking about the fish lady that we got on the first tide since she was with rot jaw or something
Waja
Gar is linked to RJ/Princess but arguably Enola (if we get her as a hunter) is much more linked to Princess
Imagine Kill Buyer accidentally pulling Butterscotch from the land of the dead and it becomes a new wild bounty
Harold black is arguably tied to the assassin, but a better choice would be glanton, the guy from the Romero lore, however crytek mentioned some new connection to a new hunter in one of the new legendaries
Honestly, Butcher Cleaver should have been Young Roche
If you say new one more time I'm gonna lose my mind
Yeah I found it kind of weird that Butcher's Cleaver was this freshly implemented villain with barely any backstory only for them to do away with him in the next event story
I was half awake when I wrote that but also blame crytek
Yeah. Roche would have made SO much sense
tied to the butcher, tied to the slaughterhouse, dude is known for being crazy, etc... Cmon crytek it was RIGHT THERE
Perfect chance to bring old lore back into the spotlight
id love to get glanton as a hunter tbh. he already has his own legendary weapon, an interesting backstory, and existing ties to harold black and the assassin as previously mentioned
youre probably right but man that ending just wasnt satisfying imo
the beast hunter is intertwined with the hellhounds as he seeks to tame them and use them to his own ends, and beekeeper seems to emulate the hives ||right up to the horrific death of their child|| but i think thats it outside of gar/lovebirds/cleaver
I think beekeeper is the child put in hive
She just reads the almanach her ancestor wrote
She mentions her daughter in the last chapter
Hope Beekeeper meets a similar fate as Cleaver
I donāt think she made it out of the land of the dead
Getting the feeling that these recent event narratives are put together with ChapGPT or something similarā¦.
i dont think so either which is weird cuz like, why set these new hunters up just to do away with them
Tbh itās fine, theyāre introduced to serve a role in the narrative and thatās all they rly need to do. Thereās so many characters as is that having them do their thing and get taken out isnāt too bad imo
We donāt know exactly who he is yet, it doesnāt seem like he went w the demented to the land of the dead so he likely will come back
I think he set them up to be sacrificed, like what lynch did w the drowned
need an event with an avowed pact, voodoo pact, and law pact tbh
throw a night of the hunter pact in there too
thatās fair i suppose. i guess im burnt bc cleaver and beekeeper both had really cool designs
New mysterious villain, the successor to Butcher's Cleaver
I'm hoping The Cowl is a more important edition to future events and not just another throw away character
me too, he sounds like he could be an interesting character especially if heās masterminding stuff ala chary or lynch
I think he'll come up again
Could he be assassin's protege?
I think this is the scavenger hunt / player speculation / breadcrumb trail marketing technique theyāve been using for the events for the last few years, thoughā¦.itās not meant to reach a conclusion and risk alienating some of the fans, itās meant to keep players engaged through ungrounded fan speculation, indefinitely
Yeah pretty much, they give us the big strokes of world building and we are making our own concluccions on it
Yeah but the drowned where spit back up no? At least thats what I got on my sleep deprived read of the event
Got ya, thats enough hubters to lv up XD
the drowned got out but I think they also were helped by the ghost of the delphine whereas the beekeeper seemed to relish in her fate of becoming bug food
I wish they'd do an epilogue or something so there'd be a clearer answer at the end lol
Heh... bug food
I'm telling ya'll this will be a reality
Some grotesque and bloated insect abomination that we gotta look up and shoot at because it FLIES.
I'm just imagining what monstrosities lurk in the land of the dead... ššš
Yeah that was my thinking
Beekeeper was like becoming a new entity and at the end I thought while yes laffite attacks it and stuff theres still the chance they release a new boss thats the malformed new "GOD" that she tried to birth
Something like Silent hill
All sorts of things are rushing through my mind, semi-aquatic eldritch horrors to oversized insects
You guys should read some H.P. Lovecraft stories, theyāre greatā¦
Whats this from?
Resident evil
Wildly acclaimed sequel to Hunt Showdown
There are lots of great American 20th century Southern Gothic authors too
Looks cool! Also a little like a star wars Blurrg
I always thought the huge collection of wasp nest material thatās growing orange nodules in Blanchett Graves and Healing Waters chapel was like a huge chrysalisā¦
Getting ready to become something, or hatch something
Yup! H.P lovecraft is good but there are a lot of good authors as well, i've read a few of lovecrafts but i've never really felt compelled to read more
It mostly comes to people gifting new books to me XD
Did the stalker beetle come into the world made from a normal insect or did it come with the corruption?
We don't really know mate
We only know that they were found around rhe 19th century
Well at least the normal kind
Choke and fire beetles are a new thing found by a Harriet Fella
Oh and aparrently this scientist (Harriet) claims that he is trying to develop new variats
Have any good recommendations?
The Fisherman by John Langan is very good
House of leaves is a really nice read
The hellbound heart is cool if you enjoy the cenobytes
Uzumaki is a manga but is cool
If you like, the magnus archives are amazing and on spotify
Not fully cosmic horror but its eldritch entities
Yup thats the gate to the other side
Ive been playing for a hot minute and Iāve never seen it
Interesting! House of Leaves is cool, Uzumaki sounds like a neat conceptual horror idea..
I think the main reason I keep connecting Lovecraft and Hunt is because when you see only the art in the game (without the lore) it really seems like the world is presented in a tone similar to the one used by Lovecraftās narrators - itās unstylized and very serious, and specific details of the weapons, tools and gear are (mostly) realistic, coming from a practical design perspective.
Lovecraft really pushed plausible details into the story to help anchor the reader - so that serious, sober tone magnifies the terror when it arrives - you expect that it has to be real.
He also often describes rules about how the monsters are brought into the world, what affects them, what they want, etc. (see Charles Dexter Ward).
Bram Stoker lays out some great rules with Dracula too, (and itās era appropriate!) He and Lovecraft also narrate in matter-of-fact journal entries, and the feeling really matches the focus on scientific thought and industrialization in the Gilded Age.
It would be great if Hunt had a believable, cohesive idea of the relationship of the monsters to the (sculptor??), how theyāre made, etc. There are so many questions, and none of the answers given seem to have any connection to one another.
(This is all coming from a place of love and respect for Hunt, I should add.)
Does anyone have uppercut with shoulderstock lore?
Elliot is a weird woman's name
Shame about their marriage
Let's be realistic, can she really come back to him after witnessing the sex personified that is Monroe?
I think itās more likely that Elliot is a man tbh
How so?
elliot has more commonly been a masculine name throughout history
Hunt has always been equal opportunity slaughterfest
Just because she's good at hunt doesn't mean she's a man
Looks like we need a new custom ammo for the Caldwell to clarify the Gender of Elliot.
(Come on High Velocity)
Also Schneider is a German/Yiddish name and Elliot derives from Elijah which is a boyās name and Eliot was explicitly named Eliot in Scrubs because her father wanted a son.
Well if they are married then Schneider could also be the last name of the husband which Elliot just took, right?
I wonder if Rotjaw is the only voodoo Cthulu Boogaloo alligator out there or if she has brothers and sisters in the land of the dead.
well since she originated from a living egg entering the land of the dead I highly doubt it.
Maybe something like Gator ghosts?
I'm not so sure because there's probably more living eggs in there
Even Gar's visions when she was drowning mentioned of ancient alligator birthing pits
I don't wanna sound rude but how would they end up there? Rotjaws egg was accidentally carried by a Human (forgot her name) when they got transported there and a storm that pulls you into the land of the dead doesn't seem to happen often.
It's mostly me just speculating but my assumption is that those visions that Gar had while drowning, "when the snouts of gar fish kissed her" that is mentioned in her character description are of the land of the dead
My theory is that opportunity for life within the land of the dead isn't restricted to somebody bringing in an egg or plant into the dimension but rather it has it's own ecosystem and life
okay that's fair I guess but I doubt it would be as recognisable, I would think of it more filled with insects and such.
Yeah but aside from just insects we could also have reptiles, amphibians, mammals
Think about it, this "land of the dead" could be like the upside down fron Stranger things or like an entirely different realm as big as earth
With different biomes and ecosystems all together
The potential and possibilities for a entirely different world from our own are nearly limitless
That takes it a bit far I think.
From all we know the land of the dead is a realm in which powerful entities exist
and besides the sculptor's creations we don't learn about anything else "living" there
I also think Hunt doesn't need a whole another world that's filled with stuff.
Having it desolate, hollow and unworldly makes it that much more frightening
Wow, attempting to connect all of this is confusing šµāš«
These all feel like floating story points on index cards, with no logical step from one to the next
That's unfortunately the basis for hunt lore and storytelling right now
Because unless it got the amount of traction of something like game of thrones I don't really see it taking off from what we currently have
It honestly falls to the fans to make the world into something more than what it already is
I'll definitely have to disagree on that last statement, I believe that having it be populated almost like a shadowed alternative to our own world would be a much cooler concept. Having it be populated with otherworldly horrors almost beyond our comprehension would overall make for a much better storytelling. You can't always expect grade A world building if the world in question is as you said desolate, hollow and unworldly, I've seen it done but it's extraordinarily difficult to properly pull off in both writing and visuals.
Pretty sure the Delphine logs from Tide of Shadows mentioned the Land of the Dead has a very large population of oversized and voracious insects. Passengers and crew were picked off often.

C'mmmmmon crytek
Gotta be a VOIP Beetle in there somewhere, start plundering.
I think that would be so funny
Especially if it applied a filter over your voice
Make it more beetle like
Honest to god, using the VOIP beetles to lower morality via slurs
Would be crazy funny
I have a japanese friend that calls everyone "roundeyes" I can imagine him doing that
Does he not have round eyes himself?
round eyes was a slur Japanese soldiers would use against Americans during ww2
but now adays we just treat it like a bit of funny banter
Helium Beetle Voice.
With each new beetle, the Sculptor cringes harder at our uses for them.
Chaos Beetle.
Give the beetle dynamite so you can clear an entire room just by fluttering inside a window in a compound
The kamikaze strategy with the sticky bomb was the final straw
Now he's given up
The best idea I heard was
Let us eat the beetle for health
Portable snack
Also the inspect animation better be us petting the beetles Crytek
Don't fuck it up
Had this flair up on my Fitbit at work and I stared at it and thought; "Wow, I know I'm not a good player, but I'm getting hatemail on discord now?" š¤£
Lmao
Getting hate mail is like a badge of honor
Any time I recieve it I feel validated and loved š
I bet Sculptor receives a lot of hate mail from all kinds of different deities
Meridia would definitely not be a fan of Sculptor that's for sure
You already know she's hitting him with that "ANOTHER TOUCHES THE BEACON!" š£ļøš£ļøš£ļøāļøāļøāļø
So can anyone confirm or deny if Sgt. Bridgewater our favorite little Buffalo soldier is a deserter of the United States military?
Pretty sure it states outright on his steam page, "The injustice of war caused Sergeant Caleb Bridgewater to seek a different fight when word from home reached him of what was happening in the Bayou. Forced to desert, heās proud now to fight the only war he believes in."
He's not a civil war veteran
he was part of the numerous indian-american wars that were fought as a result of the expansion to the west
and regardless of the cause of war there's always injustices on every side
ok i just finished reading all the chapters
and i got 0 clue what just went on
||beekeeper sat on a throne and then the captain then got on the boat burst into flames that fueled the ship? then it like crashed into whatever the beekeeper was gonna be the "daughter" of or whatever then the drowned pact got spat back out back to life??||
wait
ok spoiler
just in case ig
Yeah, the American Civil War ended 30 years before Hunt - so this doesnāt refer to the Union, also what Danger Ranger said
oh ok
I'm looking at chapter nine rn and seeing the bit about the statues
"The first was a man making a fire. Then a herd of white bison, followed by a one-legged woman nailed to a cypress tree."
would the one legged woman nailed to tree be a reference to this concept art made by an intern some years back? I might be reaching since I always liked this art but it'd be nice to see her even just referenced
not exactly a tree but it is nailed up wood
I believe the one-legged woman is the one William Salters tortured and killed in his madness.
"When finally I severed the leg and cauterized the wound" Journal of William Salter 8/10
"I put her corpse outside before it stiffened, strung it up against the cypress tree." Journal of William Salter 10/10
yeah that'd be it
Yeah, the woman nailed to the tree is absolutely a ref to Mary, who william salter killed and thus was killed by the Twins
Be neat to see another "Phantom" character come out with prosthetics like that concept
I'm pretty sure Mary was an old woman iirc
@noble scarab ?
didn't she also have a little lamb
Itās implied she was older, yes
"An older woman, not suitable to fight, but I found another use for her"
Yeah I remember
Didnāt think the age would matter in this context since the part in the event story doesnāt mention it
I kinda wondered if the statues are evidence some of the stories were true vs some being fluffed (looking at you, BATS)
