Basically the "Tides" is a storm that's been happening in the Bayou called the "Storm of 93" (And when Crytek implemented the Rain in the game). The storm in of itself is "unnaturally deadly", people where dying left and right from this storm, and those who got sucked into the waters would return as those "Drowned Zombies" Hunters you see, like for example Gur, and those who would stay in the storm would slowly become insane, imagine "Hurricane Cthulhu". So the storm in of itself is also "Implanting" information in the heads of these people, so you start so see these cults starting to form, with the Drowned Hunters being their cultist and bruisers, the "normal" hunters are trying to deal with this shit storm. The story in of itself is told in the Point of View of a guy called "The Navigator" who was, well the navigator in a ship that was destroyed in the storms, he heavily implies that within the storm is a "pocket dimension" where the drowned goes into are are "Changed" one of the things that emerged from this pocket dimension is Rotjaw. This all is during the first part of the trillogy.

It's very TL:DR

The second part "Tide of Corruption" follows 4 main characters: Sofia, Butcher's Cleaver, Burnt Marhsall and Mr. Chary. We follow basically on their quest to either find the Murmurstone or stop it's fuckery, which was being carried by the ship in the first part of the trilogy (The one that got destroyed), and seem to have some infernal power within it. The Butcher's Cleaver was the first one to find it and he obviously goes crazy because of it, believing to be some sort of Prophet. The Murmurstone caused the Dark Inferno, which of course started the whole Forest Fire in the Bayou, the fire also seems very "Unnatural" it seemed like it had a life of it's own, constantly "licking and kissing" the Burnt Marshall, almost as if it knew their intent and was fighting back. But basically this entire event's lore was around the Murmurstone and the ship that carried it, called Delphine.

Also, the reason they could not find the ship, was because it was in the clouds, and eventually came crashing down in the end of the first part of the trillogy

In the end of the second part, someone shot a bolt at the murmurstone, the bolt, somehow, made the stone bleed, and within it a chasm start forming, which only made things worse. Apparently, according to Mr Chary, this made the connection of the stone to The Sculpor stronger, and from the chasm arms started reaching out, the former captain of the ship, now deformed and corrupted emerged from the stone. So Mr Chary drops the title card and says "A new age is comming and it's name is Desolation"

Scrappy is a vet from the Civil war that lost his limbs, then had someone experiment on him, causing him to become the monster we all know and love. His son is likely the one who experimented on him, or at the very least had a hand in his transformation

That's the timeline. No fuckery. Bear in mind that the events in game do NOT take 2 months- likely TOS happens over a few weeks. We only play an extended time cause it's a game.

The story is a lot more dark than I thought

Tl;dr is Chary fucked with the moon, the moon made a teenager her knight in shining armor, kevin told chary to F off, his crew set the swamps on fire. Chary bolts to LOD and finds the delphine crew, goes hey i can get you home, let's fish us a gator and feed her the TalkRock. She destroys boat but also consumes rock, sending her and chary back to the land of the living. chary gets his ass kicked by Gar then healed by Rain and the Wolves. Reptilian and crew go gimme dat gator, smuggler is here for the shiny shit, and grounded is telling folks to cut that shit out. they all fight, gar banishes RJ, the boat (ghost turned back to real) drops from the sky. Chary puts on a play, finch dies, death pact murders a whole lotta folks and also spritzes the talkrock with finch blood, destroying it. This rips apart the LOD portal and now we are at tide of desolation

Coming to this kind of late: but here’s my take on the tides story:

Somewhere in the bayou there is a Water way that leads to the land of the dead. It opens only during hurricanes, and only accessible to ships drenched in human blood may pass between our world and the world of the dead: and infinite expanse of swamps, ship wrecks where even time has died.

There have been five times in history where someone has traveled into the lands of the dead. In 1812 a young girl named Enola with an Alligator egg, and a British warship entered the land of the dead. In 1893 the Delphine running guns and occult artifacts for Finch sailed in after colliding with a circus tent. And in 1895 three separate people through three separate methods arrived in the land of the dead. The Twins through the Butcher’s Den, Chary through some horrific self sacrifice, and Lynch through one of the rifts.

Chary tricked the crew of the Delphine into believing if they placed the murmur stone in Rotjaw’s mouth and fixed a necrophagic cage around Rotjaw they would be free.

Which wasn’t exactly a lie as Delphine, Crew, and Rotjaw did escape the land of the dead technically. But the crew and passengers were consumed by the Delphine and Rotjaw had their souls torn from their bodies and consumed turned into the rains.

When Chary went to kill rotjaw and recover the insect fossil - the murmur stone - from its mouth he was attacked and nearly killed by Gar. He was saved however by the grounded pack and deceived them into believing it was Finch who brought Rotjaw into this world not he.

Chary wanted the stone for two reasons: he wanted to learn the history of the Sculptor so he could gain understanding of why he does what he does, and he so he could create a personal back door.

But before he could realm the Murmur stone from Rotjaw someone else got it first.

That someone was the Butcher’s cleaver who became convinced he was the prophet of the Sculptor and it was his mission in life to spread a gospel of desolation. The Sculptor had come to sculpt them, to make them art, and it was their job to kill and supplant his imperfect servants: the bosses.

They set the dark infernos and created the corrupted shrines.

Chary and his pact went to war with the Demented and reclaimed the stone and set about on their mission to open a back door into the land of the dead.

From the shadows another group stalked the bayou seeking to fight for the sanctity of eternal life and bring an end to the eternal cycle of redesth and rebirth.

From Jelico and Mama Maye they learned that Finch commissioned the Delphine to bring the Murmur Stone to him in 1893, and that if anyone knew hoe to banish the stone it was him.

From Finch they learned all of this is his fault, while searching for a way to banish the Murmur Stone and escape the wrath of the Twins he allowed Chary to rise to power. But now he knows how to stop Chary and ruin his plans. He gifts Sofia three vials of his blood, and tells them not to miss because they’ll only have one chance.

Chary captures Finch and drowns him in a sinkhole ensuring that his blood cannot be used to banish the Murmurstone. He then sets about pulling the shackles of Rotjaw from the rift where she was banished, and after killing the Captain for asking how a cloud could try to kill someone sets about his ritual.

Using the wood the Delphine, the Shackles of the Rotjaw, and the Murmur stone he enacted a play of sorts his pact members acting as the various players. Black Cost played Finch, Private Eye the Captain, and Devil’s Advocate the Gator Rotjaw.

He combined the murmur stone with the shackles and began to draw in the spirits of the dead. The Ghosts of the delphine longing to sail the dead waters, Rotjaw longing for her mother in the land of the dead, and Finch longing to take the Murmur Stone were drawn him and harvested to open a path to the land of the dead.

A permanent, non-violent, back door.

We don't have a lot of info on it specifically, just bits here and there as lore bits drop. TOS and Rotjaw's mastery have a bunch of stuff about it (kinda) since Delphine is in it for a long time as is Enola/RJ

It's not super clear on that, we see tons of bodies floating around in the various descriptions, but they don't appear to have souls/life attached to them- they're literally just rotting corpses. There is a section in the Navigator's log about the Delphine having more passengers on board than he first assumed- to me, this means they have found others "alive" in the LOD, or they are beings/souls that have snuck on board. The folks "alive" in the LOD are so far those that have entered alive- Enola, Chary (tho he cut himself into lil bits to do so the second time), Lynch (appears to be wandering around doing who knows what), and possibly the Twins if BATS is to be trusted on that front.
