Compared to S1 where the deviation+recoil of a weapon is shown fully literally this game vastly exaggerates weapon inaccuracy. This is especially noticeable for high recoil weapons such as the H200 heavy pistol, and the end result is frequent situations where it seems as though any shots would be wildly off target when in reality the spread is still very workable at moderate range. Some exaggeration makes sense to help players develop better habits for using higher recoil weapons but as is, it often ends up being highly misleading to the optimal use of a weapon
#reticle size is misleading of actual weapon spread

Btw for anyone who hasn't tried it load up a game with the heavy pistol and spam click it's wild how much lower the spread is than you expect
It's also super jarring when switching between S1 and S2
this is the same issue in S1
the issue is fundamentally unfixable - you get recoil after you shoot
So while the bullet is flying, your crosshair looks bigger than the inaccuracy of the shot - because you just fired, but the shot you fired was with less recoil. Because the recoil happens after the shot.
I just tested with the pistol same with others (all work the same) and you do get the shots which are completely at the edge of the circle, showing that its correct, however there is a center weighting (and naturally edge shots are unlikely) so its not that common to get them
If you fire at max recoil, you see that the circle is accurate
Just went through the entire 60 or so starting ammo of the heavy pistol and not a single shot was outside the inner third of the reticle. Tried again with the P33 compact and same thing. Even if it's technically accurate it's in a way that's completely unhelpful to actual gameplay. The recoil from the shot is definitely a contributing factor but even taking it into account it's still a pretty huge discrepancy
Did some tests in S1 to make sure I'm not insane and yeah there's a huge difference
I just tried s1 and it seems that all recoil is weighted towards the center in S2 while in s1 its pure random, but overall the circles appear to work exactly the same
Have you guys considered testing without recoil?
And here's that with a normal recoil gun so you don't blame the recoilless test's result on warthog's inverted recoil.
looks correct to me, same as when I tried
Huh yeah looks like it's specific to deviation caused by recoil
Or the high fire rate is changing something somehow
Increasing the sample size so you see what's possible(the point of this thread, isn't it?) with too much abundance to see the weighting.
Idk I doubt it's actually changing anything but code can be weird sometimes
its the weighted recoil
from the videos all looks as intended
recoil is a bell curve though, we could make it pure random and reduce global recoil
this would result in a bit smaller cursor
Or just have the cursor represent the inner 80% or 90% of the bell curve
shoots beyond what the circle shows
"Reticle size is misleading of actual weapon spread. I just had a healing station conpletely in the circle and I missed. No unstable ammo tech perk or other xcom in a tech perk."
Have you seen anyone complain about it in S1? I haven't
I have also seen nobody complain about it in s2 outside of once, it is accurate. Doing 80-90% will make it inaccurate and create complaints
