#RoF dominance over single-shot damage

Currently in S2, there are not many ways to directly upgrade weapon damage, leading to a situation where snipers feel very underwhelming lategame unless built for auto-fire or max fire rate.
My suggestions:

  • Add more weapon attachments/perks that trade fire rate for damage
  • Make tuning tables provide a 5% damage boost OR add damage tunings with a big trade-off (such as +15% damage, -15% fire rate, +30% recoil)
  • Make weapon perk shops/tinkerer significantly more common. It's way more fun getting one of these instead of a tuning box.
  • Let upgrade kits add 1-5% damage after weapon is fully upgraded

Obviously some of these might throw off the balance, but IMO S1 had more satisfying snipers and less reliance on spamming and I'd love to see a return to that.

Armor Penetration and Recoil reduction are two very useful stats for snipers that can be gained via the Tinkerer.

Weapon Upgrade Kits already have a lot of useful upgrades for sniper rifles by either providing increased handling/damage (Chromatic lining, Muzzle Compensator) or by finding ways to deal with numbers (Impulse, reflector).

I don't really see the issue I think

Not perma-stacking damage on a single gun again.

It's not a problem of single-shot weapons, it's a problem of threat variety.

#

If endgame includes more tough, high-HP, high-armor, low-number threats that are most vulnerable to long-range weakpoint shots - that will improve the odds for snipers and similar guns.

#

Less hopping chronos, more Juggernauts that high RoF builds have to dance around, while Elephant Gun builds can dispatch them in a few well placed shots.

#

Elephant Guns in general live for two things:

  1. Piercing through a bunched up horde at once.
  2. A huge enemy falling down with a thud due to an equally large, masterfully placed hole in his head, with Big Colored Numbers shaking over the cooling corpse.

That's what makes huge single-shot guns arousing, and both of those currently need more representation in the threats we face.

#

Juggernauts were a great addition when they appeared in the roster, we need more enemies like that, and Leviathan and similar guns will truly shine.

Also naturally fuck the invuln shield enemies, they are unfun, it's all literally just "disengage and wait to continue having fun" when the game is already kinda heavy on favoring disengagement without making it enjoyable.
