ok let me just rewrite my thing out here
so i plugged in my phone
saw there was an encrypted backup on itunes
reset all my settings because that would get rid of it (i did not remember the password at all)
and now it's just not recognizing anything
no trusted popup
i've reset my phone's network and privacy settings MULTIPLE times
and an unnamed software which idk why it violates the filters recognizes that there is an iphone but can't connect to it
i don't know why this is happening
it's actually driving me insane
and literally no one knows anything about it apart from "you probably broke something" which is driving me even more insane
i just want to succession my phone
i've already partially reset it
god im so done
what os
14.2
windows 10 pro on my computer
even updating itunes to the latest version doesn’t work
well
my problem now is my computer is just
not recognizing the phone at all
yeah just figured that out
i have wsl though (ubuntu)
do you have a physical mac?
technically yeah, its a piece of shit from 2007 or something but its a mac
alright
should i try installing itunes on there?
and then plugging it in to see if it works?
maybe?
oh ok
i’ll check tho
and so what is this supposed to do?
so
if you have internet, we will download Brew (package manager for unix), and from there we will install python3
then, we will use brew to download libimobiledevice
which is basically a cool interface to talk with ios devices
then, we will execute the
imobiledevice pair
it will allow you to pair your phone with your mac and (probably?) repair problems in window
ohh okay
anyways
itll be a while before i can get to my mac
ill just wait til then
aw
sucks
but that’s very odd
I remember using a tool that had libimobiledevice libs on windows
oh maybe theres an executable somewhere
@viral orchidok so i did actually get it installed with a CLI ubuntu VM
do i really need a mac? it seems to install fine here
no
i just doubted you had a linux laptop
oh nah WSL works fine for all linux things
its still on my windows computer
like a CLI-only VM
oh ok
can i just ctrl-c at this point? it doesn't seem to be doing anything
or is it just doing something w/o outputting anything about it
aight ill just wait a while
yeah takes a bit
alright it installed
no
sorted out all the dependencies
apt version is very old
oh
yes
i mean i cloned it from the github and did the makefile stuff
could i have just done brew lol
wait
how do i add brew to PATH
echo "export PATH=/usr/local/bin:$PATH" >> ~/.bash_profile && source ~/.bash_profile
this might be because of the WSL thing. ill find another way to add brew to environment variables
oh i got it working nvm
@viral orchid sorry, forgot to ping you, i did the brew install and it worked
gg
now do
idevicepair pair
this may fix things
idevice isnt a command
yeah i opened it after checking
maybe a total uninstall will make it work?
doesnt seem to have any background processes
oh lmfao
give me a second

oh
maybe a breakthrough
getting this same error now whenever i run idevicepair pair
connection refused means that the phone has to be sending something back right, not just a timeout
oh nevermind
when i unplug the phone it does the same thing
at this point just thinking of booting from a live linux iso
and doing it all again
actually wouldnt be hard
let me get my school computer out
please do that
alright my school computers charging now
fuck the USB pricked me gotta get a bandaid
there we go
WHAT THE FUCK
my iphone works PERFECTLY with the live mint iso hahahahah
it did the whole trust thing and everything
ok this is definitely a problem w/ my main computer
maybe with windows
let me see if it works with my school computer windows installation
definitely works off of the linux live boot
ok its installing updates
im not sure if my school computer has the partition space to do this
ok this is so so weird
my SCHOOL COMPUTER
recognizes the iphone is plugged in
and showing up in file explorer
and i can access my photos
lol
ok do you know what could be going on with my computer specifically?
my school computer windows installation works fine hahah
problem is i have 14 gb free on my school computer so i cant take a backup there
windows is trash for iPhone things
well yeah but theres something i specifically had to fuck up
because it works with other windows installation
thinking of just wiping my SSD
true
im thinking this is about me resetting my settings on my iphone and my computer having something essential hanging on my iphone already recognizing my computer
maybe
i can't be sure though
alright im gonna test this out w/ another phone
my apple usb drivers may be broken
alright just tried this out again, its only my phone that doesn't work with my computer
even though my computer works with other phones and my phone works with other computers
ok i think i got it working
downloading itunes again
alright uh
@viral orchid
should i just delete the old itunes files
i updated my apple usb drivers and now it shows up on file explorer and the trust notification pops up
okay so
go in the features panel of windows
uninstall those
iTunes
iCloud
Bonjour
whatever drivers u had
Apple Software Update
in this order
