You can not restore from a jailbroken backup
So I basically can’t remove the jailbreak files from my phone?
I meant a backup that I did before jailbreaking
okay, but you jailbroke with the backup in place, correct?
you still restored with it after being jailbroken though
Wdym restored?
What does that mean
Am I going to have to have the jailbreak files on my phone?
DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode is a mode which allows a device in any condition to be restored to a fresh version of iOS (not to be confused with Recovery Mode). You cannot keep data when restoring via DFU and you can only restore to a signed version.
To restore via DFU:
- Enter DFU Mode
- Once you enter DFU, the device should show a black screen.
- Connect the device to a Mac/PC and open Finder/iTunes.
- On the prompt that says "A device has been connected in recovery mode and needs to be restored" press "Restore iPhone" then "Restore and Update.”
Would you like to keep photos and videos? That’s probably the most important thing in a iPhone backup and also one of the easiest to extract
without the resulting backup becoming contaminated
I am have the same issue
And yes but also contacts.
Everything else can be redownloaded from App Store when restored
@vestal condor @true tartan anyway this is possible?
do you have reccomendarions?
thanks ill try it
I’ll be trying this Friday. Work two jobs 17hrs a day so don’t have time till then.

Hey. Forgot that I made this forum post and still have the problem. What would be the best option to do? To stay on my current version and dfu restoring or to update to latest version and then dfu restore?
There is no jailbreak files anymore unless you are referring left over preferences on varfs
if you want to keep your data you will need to modify a local backup
otherwise just erase all content and settings
@steep bison
but there are certain apps that dont open when i try to open them
an example is mario kart tour
I literally gave your the reason behind it and the solution
what don't you understand?
its impossible to have jailbreak files stay across update
but their preferences files stay in the userdata fs
meaning they persist even across backups
so either erase all user data, or delete those files from a backup mod then restore the modded backup
so its safe to update?
and theres still apps that close when i try to open them
and that didnt happen before
i jailbroke
yes you can update, but like I said its recommended that you delete jailbreak preference files from var
And to do that i have to dfu reset
right?
does jailbreaking with palera1n then restoring rootfs with that not work
I have an iPhone 8 in iOS 15.6. I don’t have honk palera1n is an option anymore
