OK, I did it. After all these day of work I finally did it, I got palera1n installed on my iPhone 6s Plus. But I was overcome with shock, horror and a hint of mild disappointment when palera1n threw an error at me. I got it all set up, but whenever I try to install Sileo, it throws an error at me, error 256 specifically.

Status 256 in palera1n loader

palera1n beta 6 has introduced many changes that include a bunch of loader related updates, this error may be related to not being able to force install package managers over existing ones.

Additionally, this error will occur if attempting to initially jailbreak using rootful palera1n

Most users should just use rootless palera1n instead (as it offers many benefits compared to rootful palera1n, and tweak compatibility for it has become very decent). If you do need rootful palera1n, however, you can use palera1n beta 5 and wait for the team to fix the issues in the next beta, though beta 5 does not support iOS 16.4 or newer

this is so much different then when I did my mini 4 before my phone and mac got hacked and I lost everything. I had the git pull and everything so I'm assuming that if my mini 4 shuts down I have to remove and redo everything this way

Nothing really ‘happens’. The idea of taking a back up before is so the backup is clean of any jb files which is useful if you ever decided to unjailbreak and want to keep your data

You can restore rootfs but some files remain and jb detection might pick up on them. The best way to reset a jailbreak is to restore rootfs, reset the device and then restore from backup (provided the back up with created before jailbreaking)

I have tried 2 different iPhones with 2 different iOS version, i6s on 15.7.1 and iphone 7 on 15.7.5, both end up in that error and nothing happens even when cable is unplugged and pluggend back in. yes, you have to remove the jb first (restore system in checkra1n loader, or checkra1n --force-revert on computer)

you can export the repo list by doing edit -> export in sileo sources tab, and packages tab also has an export feature, but there is no backup tweak for ios 16 currently that will allow you to reinstall tweaks all at once (and they're risky anyway, can cause bootloops)

Sudo is a better practice than root login.
