you do that the first time, then wait 10 minutes. Your Apple TV will blink

eventually, it'll go in to recovery mode

after it does, then use palera1n -f

if it still doesn't work, you can use palra1n --force-revert then redo palera1n -cf

Tweaks basically do not exist. If you aren’t interested in sideloading or development there is practically nothing to seriously do
Some things on the nitoTV repo do work
You can’t get any theming. SnowBoardTV stopped being worked on ages ago. You can get a browser by just sideloading

It does basically nothing useful. Apple services are dead, it has no apps, it has no tweaks. So have fun with that. You can’t AirPlay, you can’t use Home Sharing, straight up nothing.

You can’t jailbreak it without the remote
You can USE it without the remote though by pairing a Bluetooth keyboard

To get past setting date and time you probably need to connect it to Ethernet or just restore it and set it up stock (which you have to do anyways to pair a Bluetooth keyboard without a remote)

The jailbreaks it does have are:
Untethered on Apple TV Software 5.3 (iOS 6)
Completely tethered on Apple TV Software 6.2.1 (iOS 7)
So you currently would have to downgrade it (iOS 6 is signed) to have an untethered jailbreak

Someday moderately soon this will change and an untethered jailbreak on iOS 7 will exist

Realistically if you’re trying to jailbreak an Apple TV. Well number one, you probably shouldn’t. And number two, you probably do not want to start off with a 4K.

There’s only one Apple TV 4K that’s jailbreakable, being the 1st generation. And you need specific cables that cost basically $50 to jailbreak it.

The HD aka Apple TV 4th gen just needs a regular USB-C cable

Trollstore lite (useful for sideloading apps)
Kodi (whole media center app)
TrollDecrypt (not really useful unless you need to inject stuff into an app store app)

Breezy (Airdrop for apple TV that I havn't got working)
Appstore++ (a tweak that allows you to download any app version on the Apple App Store)

Communtiy made apps (these are installed with trollstore):
muTube (ad free youtube with other cool features)
tvOS Browser (a browser for apple TV)

Out of curiosity, what are you actually able to do on your 4K or what are you using it for currently? i had remembered some time ago you had mentioned the difficulties of jailbreaking it combined with very limited functions/tweaks.

Ironically, I don't really use my 4K 1st gen for much besides developing stuff for tvOS. My main Apple TV is a 4K 3rd gen which I basically just use as an AirPlay receiever and occasional YouTube player.

In terms of jailbreaking, tvOS is rather dead in terms of apps and tweaks due to lack of interest and small user base, so there just objectively isn't much to do, and for the tweaks that do actually exist, most of them don't work on any sort of modern tvOS version. The tweaks/apps I do have on my 4K 1st gen boils down to
TrollStore Lite
TrollDecrypt and AppStore++
Stasis, Volte, Solaria (All tweaks I personally made for blocking updates, power options, and enabling Liquid Glass respectively)

@junior lintel I personally side loaded using a signing service (paid) which is like a developer ID but you only got 1 device. (Can’t mention name for piracy reasons but you can research yourself) Once got my Apple TV 4 jailbroken with chimera I then airdropped ChimeraTV from my iPhone and signed with ReProvision. Now I’ve got 2 chimera apps which both work. If one gets revoked I still got mine which gets signed every 3 days with ReProvision.

@wind oriole There’s one you can control via browser using Apple TV IP and this port 3073. So it would like something like this: http://192.168.1.3:3073/. I cannot remember the name of the tweak but it’s something like Magic a Remote or something like that. I’ll have a look when I get back home. But you still need to be able to install the tweak to then control your Apple TV. Otherwise you can use an iPhone.

I cannot remember the name of the tweak but it’s something like Magic a Remote or something like that. I’ll have a look when I get back home. But you still need to be able to install the tweak to then control your Apple TV. Otherwise you can use an iPhone. @wind oriole I just checked and the name of the tweak is AirMagic by Kevin Bradley.

Question 2: What Apple TV devices are jailbreakable?

Question 8: I want to reset my Apple TV, should I use "Reset" in Settings?

Answer: No, no, no, and no!! Never ever touch that Danger Will Robinson! Please refer to Question 4: first for a complete guide as to how you can safely reset the device without worrying about corruption and retaining the firmware (whilst avoid possible bootloop).

After following the guide to completion, you may then use the "Reset" function. But only if unjailbroken first!

Question 9: I'm jailbroken! now what?

Answer: If you're using an Apple TV 4/4K, update nitoTV. For Apple TV 2/3, just use apt-get update Once that's all updated, you're set. Be careful and have fun!

Question 10: How do I set the Apple TV into DFU?

Answer: For Apple TV 2/3/4, press and hold Menu & Play/Pause for 7 seconds until the LED light rapidly blinks. Release the buttons and the light will blink 3-4 times per second. For the Apple TV 4K, you'll need the breakout cable. See next question for details.

Question 11: How do I jailbreak the Apple TV 4K with checkra1n?

Reason being is because tvOS 12 creates a sandbox for the photos and videos that are transferred as the app tries to look for it in its own designed dir, but since it's not reading the sandboxed dir (because of tvOS 12) it results as nothing. That'll be updated to work with 12 soon.
