Just ran the latest Nito update. It changed the settings inside Nito for Software Updates to "Disabled". Use to always be set at Enabled. Anyway else notice this and which is the correct setting now to avoid an update?

I can confirm "Disabled" is correct. It was always labelled incorrectly before. If I set to "Enabled" now and then attempt to update I get a popup option to install. The "Disabled" default now does not give an update option. Long story short, no settimgs change or profiles need to be installed after updating in Nito

To downgrade with blobs is a bit tedious, but very possible. You just need to set the nonce with checkm8, then use futurerestore

One simply does not need a jailbreak for the latest tvOS to downgrade. The SEP for 16 can go as low as 13.4 so if you have blobs, you can certainly downgrade.. however for the new siri remote models, the pairing process will fail since SEP is only compatible on 13.4.5/8 iirc?

You can exploit via checkm8 with signature checks disabled and use that to send in decrypted ibec/ibss images to use irecovery to set the boot nonce, turn off auto-boot and save the environment. This then will keep the nonce saved and place your device in recovery mode so the apnonce doesn't change during the rebooting process

After such, running futurerestore will go down the list of its preliminary checks and since the nonce is set, the TV screen will turn green and the filesystem will begin installing to the device. One thing I've noticed; you may need to erase the device in order to downgrade since there are security changes on 15 and above and it will fail if you try to simply downgrade whilst keeping the data

having trouble with blackb0x on my atv2 a1378. im able to launch the application and start the install, but it will always stop at "waiting for apple tv to reboot". not sure how long it is typically supposed to wait but ive left it for a few hours at one point to no avail. its made it past there only twice, and in those cases it just shot me back to the original opening screen where one would normally click install jailbreak. not sure if im doing the jailbreak process incorrectly, but im trying to follow the instructions on the github as close as possible. anything I could try to fix?

I also have an Arduino Nano (and an costum made board with allows me to use jumpers etc.) but no USB Host shield.

Since the Arduino also just seems to be sending commands over USB to the Apple TV, I was wondering if there is an alternative to the jailbreak or if it is somehow possible to run the code on an computer or raspberry pi?

Why not expand controller compatibility? or even allow imessages on it? I wouldn't mind using a bluetooth keyboard to respond on the TV when iphone/ipad is charging.. I think another great feature would be to have icloud backups on it too

On another note, I have 2 jailbroken devices one on 13.4.5 and another on 14.7. The latter runs the latest version of Infuse and the former is stuck at a lower version, which has a bug in it and causes the app to crash when it attempts to fetch metadata. I know that installing newer apps on older OS's can result in the app crashing. But, I would like to try it nonetheless. I just wonder if Firecore (the Infuse app developer) just upped the min. OS requirement to 14 for no other reason. They have done it before. Anyone know how I can copy the app over?

Infuse fixed a metadata fetching bug in their version of 7.5 which requires tvOS 14. Since my 4k's are on 13.4.5, I can't update to it. Whenever the app is opened, it does a metadata update and crashes after about 30 seconds. I think the database got corrupted. If I turn off meta fetching then it stays alive. If you think it's a invalid link, any idea what file/link I need to change?

Infuse 7.4.2 is the highest version I can go to on tvOS 13. The fix was implemented in 7.5. If Settings>Metadata Fetching is turned on the app crashes in under a minute. Oddly, when I go to Settings>Library>Refresh Metadata, it does not crash. One is automatic, the other manual... the former which crashes.

if the dcsd is a blocker for people, I recommend checking out the Tamarin cables. They’re DIY but the hardware (which is basically just a raspberry pi pico + lightning extension cable) is pretty cheap and available on Amazon. Ends up at around $10usd per cable. Go to ipsw.me on your Mac and select your device, you’ll see a list of firmwares. Select tvOS 13.4.8 and download it. Then download the Checkra1n software and just follow the instructions. You’ll either need a Mac laptop, a REALLY long usb-c to usb cable, or move your desktop to your TV.

To install the firmware first, you’ll need to open iTunes and use the ipsw file to restore the device into that firmware. You can use google to help you with that.

Only in the bundle directory though, tvOS' sandbox system is different from iOS and so existing tools don't work if you provide the container or data container paths

I know this is an often asked question, but I have a few ATV 4'k (first gen) that are on 13.4.5. I am slowly losing app functionality (ie. update required). Should I update to 16.5 and wait for the jailbreak?

I was able to manually downgrade to 7.1.3 which is a version that does not give stutter on the 1st gen 4k. I have that particular version on my other 4k's making sure I don't upgrade. But on one box previously I upgraded to 7.4 (the last avail version on tvOS 13. Today I went back to 7.1.3 but it crashes immediately upon launch. Strange. Any insight why it's crashing when it works on identical boxes on the same OS?

it probably crashes due to server change. Some apps that connect to the same protocols end up slightly changing the address that could require more authentication that the lower versions don't have and thus, crashes

It also appears that deleting the app and re-installing has fixed the automatic metadata fetching crashing problem I had too on 7.1.3 which they fixed in 7.5. Without a jailbreak I would have been forced to go to the higher version which introduced an occasional judder problem on the 1st gen 4k's. 7.1.3 is the ideal version on the 4k 1st gen.

James from Infuse posted a comment today to someone else about the stuttering problem. I have been on that thread, the only solution so far is to stay on app version 7.1.3 or lower. Now just need to make sure mine does not update on 16.5 without a jailbreak and no Appstore!

i'm so sick and tired of the infuse devs. the recent version is unable to play video with .ssa subtitles or something of that sort, it just simply crashes. on 14, 15 whatever. all they keep yapping is "why are you not on the latest version" instead of actually looking into the issue

Hi i had jailbracked my Apple TV4k 1st gen long time ago with chimera on tvOS 12.4 and i dont have the tools to rejailbreak it anymore (broken computer). Now I want to update to latest tvOS because of Apps but there is no way, i tried software update in settings (it tells me its up to date). I tried "Factory Reset" and then "Reset and update", but the "Reset and Update to latest Version" fails on the downloading image (the download bar does not continue and after a minute it jumps back into the home screen). Probably the jailbreak is still blocking the update?
I have no idea how to flash it through itunes, I could get it into DFU mode but how do I get the Device listened into my Itunes (on Windows)?
Or is there any other way to get latest TV OS?

That's your first issue. Do not factory reset within settings. You must rejailbreak it to restore root fs and get OTA updating working again or it'll fail every time.

The reason why it fails is because it runs through preliminary checks of the filesystem to make sure nothing is changed and/or modified to proceed with the clean installation. Anything out of the ordinary is an automatic red flag and an immediate abort is initiated.

This will not work with the 4K as there's no ipsw's made for the 4K. This is only viable with the 1st - 4th gen (HD) models.

Your only hope of getting it updated is to jailbreak. Mind you, you do need a mac as you need to connect via Xcode to sideload (virtual machines will work!) and then be able to restore root fs. After that, you may run the facotry reset.
