You have blobs for the unsigned version you’re trying to downgrade/upgrade to.
You are jailbroken or can jailbreak.

Fake DFU:

From normal mode, hold power and home until the screen turns black (before it turns off). Then let go of power and hold home until it's in fake DFU.
When normal mode doesn't work: At Apple logo when booting (after a hard reset for example,) after it passes or is in iBoot (so that you don't enter recovery) hold power and home until Apple logo disappears (black screen) but before it turns off. Then let go of power and hold home until fake DFU

Fake DFU timeout: 2 min

 - [*]: Waiting for DFU devices
 - [*]: Exploiting
 - [*]: Checking if device is ready
 - [*]: Setting up the exploit (this is the heap spray)
 - [*]: Right before trigger (this is the real bug setup)
 - [*]: Entered download mode
 - [*]: Booting...
 - [!]: Timed out waiting for bootstrap upload (Likely caused by an incompatible tweak, to enable Safe Mode pass the '-s' option) (error code: -20)
 - [!]: Unknown error (error code: -20)

Screen will only actually turn off right before the Apple logo appears, at "Booting...". Then it basically just boots into regular mode, no pongoOS or checkra1n logo. No checkra1n loader app.

The EnterDFU function in the MobileDevice Library does not enter the true DFU Mode in the hardware. It's possible to enter the true DFU Mode without doing it manually, but it cannot be exited unless a restore is performed, as it creates a DFU Loop. This doesn't work with S5L8900 devices.

vol up, vol down
hold side button for 10 seconds
hold side+voldn for 5 seconds
hold voldn for 5 more seconds

I found that hard rebooting at Apple logo makes it easier to do fake DFU bc the screen won't shutoff if you get the timing incorrect

hm on XR it seems inverted, hard rebooting as soon as Apple logo appears actually makes the screen stay on for ~4 seconds while hard rebooting later makes it turn off quickly, like in normal mode

but I don't know if we can even enter fake DFU mode that early, it might be a kernel loaded sort of thing

I said the way to get a longer screen on, which could lead to fake DFU, is inverted from the iPad Air 1 to the iPhone XR—iPad Air 1 goes into recovery early while the XR screen stays on for roughly 4 seconds. Later, after I presume the kernel is loaded, iPhone XR screen will shutoff immediately from Apple logo while iPad would stay on longer

unc0ver sets 0x1111111111111111 and Taurine/Odyssey/Chimera sets 0xbd34a880be0b53f3. Checkra1n doesn't set by default. If your blob's generator is 0x1111 or 0xbd34 and you're using the matching jailbreak, you're probably good

So we can confirm it enables USB-C DFU on any iOS version and breaks checkra1n (but not checkm8/pwndfu—I wonder if pwndfu restores would work. Trying that later)
