it is not unnecessary at all for unjailbroken users who want to save blobs using a pair from my getnonce script

it will return a totally random generator that the OS decided to set

nobody will ever remember that

but it's been proven to match the apnonce and the script has multiple checks in place

there is literally zero downside to letting people specify the generator, it will not mess up the blob

iOS does not care about the generator value in the blob, it's literally just a comment

only thing that directly uses it is futurerestore in pwndfu mode and that nonce setter shortcut

you could make it optional, but since people are dumb it may be in fact better to force them to specify the generator and therefore have a higher chance of knowing it later

the generator being present, absent or even incorrect will not invalidate the signature at all

the shsh2 file format wasn't invented by Apple, some fields like the generator are just added by tihmstar

for jailbreakers it won't really matter because most of the time their generator will be one of two possible values (or a few others for A7/A8 collision), but with the new no-JB A12 blob saving method it's really important to know the generator because it will be completely unpredictable

tihmstar did, most of the fields come directly from the Apple TSS response but tihmstar also adds an optional generator field

plus updateInstall and noNonce to embed multiple blobs in one file

but the extra fields that don't come from Apple were basically "invented" by him

the generator field is completely ignored by non-pwndfu restores, it only serves as a reminder

you can mess with that field, it won't magically make the blob invalid or valid

as long as you actually set the right one on the device before restoring

just need to share my pain : on iPX (14.2 --> 14.4.1), didnt have 14.3 blobs, upgraded to 14.4.1 hoping SEP would come out (dreaming), and missed the 14.3 administrator work-around bc i moved to 14.4.1 after giving up trying to jb 14.2 in frustration.... i know the story: checkra1n or nothing. I'm not currently jailbroken... and... i am miserable with this state... its awful not haivng a jb on the phone. what garbage the locked state is ! (I check discord and r/jailbreak every other day hoping someone breaks the SEP / baseband issue).... f'in hate locked state !

messing with OTA daemons and software update folders is a bit extreme, but installing a profile isn't

or even OTADisabler which basically does the same thing as a tvOS profile except it's not that easily removable without a JB (but still easier than the other methods)

enter dfu while the computer is off

unplug once it’s in dfu

then boot, and plug the cable in just before you run ipwndfu

so i enter dfu manually while the computer is off but the cable is plugged in, then unplug when im in dfu, boot, plug the cable and run sudo python2 ipwndfu -p?

yeah, make sure you’re not using checkra1n to guide you through dfu, and if dfu doesnt work while the computer is off then enter dfu while it’s off and immediately reboot, making sure to unplug it

unplugging each time after it fails could also help

make sure if you get langid you just run it again
