It’s not stolen, my wife bought it in 2012 and forgot the password. We called Apple and we answered the security questions correctly, we had the right iCloud and password but they said they could only help if we presented the receipt. It’s been a long time and we’ve moved since then and we can locate it. I have been learning all this lingo by searching through google.

How it all started was my wife kept entering the wrong password on the iPad. When we went to iCloud I actually entered the right password. Once I did that, it brought us to the security questions. We “failed” those. That’s when we contacted a rep. Funny thing was, we the answers we gave the rep were correct but via the site, they weren’t. After all that is when they said we needed the receipt. So right now, my actual email and password are good to go. I just can’t log in for security reasons. It’s nuts!

Try resetting the password. As you confirm you are the owning account, Apple oughts to unlock your Apple ID without some lousy [plz gimme receipt] excuse.

Maybe you would just have to verify your email in the process

Also, ensure you are using proper grammar for your security questions. Chances are, they are case sensitive and do not take similar consonants (e.g. c for k and vice versa) as valid input

Inclusive, when where Apple IDs dependent on iDevice receipts? That is certainly nuts if you ask me since the account has no tangible dependency requirement to an iPad, as far as I am concerned.

I would contact a rep but as a final resort. Getting back your account should be as easily automated as verifying your Google account to use a software like Discord.

If you do need to contact them, do not refer to your iCloud-locked iPad as the main concern, as that would imply them asking you for the receipt. Instead, ask them about getting your Apple ID unlocked. You only need to unlock that so that when you input its credentials in the Activation Lock screen, your iPad can process it without any issues and allow it to be fully unlocked.

@dusk sage I just unlocked my secondary Apple ID again. I went to https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid to unlock it.

I now noticed that, if you configured an email as a recovery failsafe, you can use it to have an unlock link sent to it. In case you do this and that is not a choice, then you can answer security questions as an alternative. Lastly, I chose between unlocking only (you will need to enter the password you always used for it) or unlocking and resetting password, so you can use another password that you may understand be more secure for nowadays.

And I also notice an ambiguity decision in configuration files like sudo.conf. Choosing to either keep or replace the file with the one provided by the package maintainer makes no visible change to the error.

what's strange is that the terminal window should at least have an exit code, but as far as I'm aware it shows nothing in these cases

would you mind trying something for me? in ssh, run login -fu mobile. this should give you a mobile$ prompt (it may ask for mobile's password if you do it as root)

if that doesn't work, that could mean /etc/passwd is configured wrong, which would definitely be an odysseyrain bug

Welp, anyhow, restoring without wiping data, running checkra1n (dont remember if I ran it once or twice, probably twice) then odysseyra1n, and then finding the correct ssh connection with iproxy (it was ssh -p 4444 root@127.0.0.1 for me) made the fix for my NewTerm and ssh setup (the latter would just quickly close connection right after connecting for some reason)

When it comes to “Right before Trigger” wait 10-15 Secs, then plug out the cable (!) and wait another 5-7 secs, then plug in again.

Basically just plug out the cable when you see the “right before trigger” screen, and then plug it back in. It should complete the process. Hope this helps! 👍

@pale sedge So I’ve just randomly decided to restore rootfs and start over again. Now I can ssh into phone but not use NewTerm over the “quit unexpectedly” error.

Running login -fp mobile doesn’t do anything and just returns to the iPhone:~ root# command line

Could it be that at some point in running the odysseyra1n script it fails to create a mobile user for the terminal?

Must also remind that ora1n uses zsh and it brings a setup screen in the first run

had nothing to do with macos at the time, hes just some troll

tldr had buncha malware so i told him to grab a flash drive, burn windows to it, and reinstall and not to use the built in reset this pc option

so he does what i said not to and his install stops booting and that means "i broke his pc"

though im 99% sure its just trolling, i don't think its possible for someone to be that stupid

I’ve tried unplugging after 30 minutes, deleting all the files off both the pc and my drive, and checking the necessary settings for my spec (14.8) iphone x

When I get back I always start at that same point and never progress

I’ve been troubleshooting for a while now and I’m at a dead end, I’m probably just going to return this hardware and install on less complicated device
