does anyone know the name and/or location on the iPhone filesystem for the process that manages syncing iOS 6 to itunes? I'm trying to reverse engineer to force iTunes 10.6.3 (the newest itunes that runs on PowerPC Macs) to sync with an iphone 5. Part of the payload from the iPhone sets the minimum itunes version and itunes just listens to that. I have not yet been able to overwrite this value on the itunes side (but I am close). But I was wondering if it might be easier to just patch the binary on the iphone side.

A followup, the process I found that defines the MinITunesVersion key is /usr/libexec/checkpointd

Does anyone know anything about this binary? I googled and nothing came up. I asked Gemini and I think it made up a load AI slop. But I thought I would ask here... is checkpointd part of a jailbreak? It seems extremely unlikely

The binary /usr/libexec/checkpointd is a background daemon (hence the d at the end). Since it isn't part of a stock iOS 6 installation, it was definitely placed there by a jailbreak tweak you’ve installed.

Hello, does anyone know how to troubleshoot App Store issues on iOS 12? I tried installing AppStore++ (recommended here) but even with that it just gets stuck at 0%. It starts the download and gets to roughly 75% before the blue line disappears and it just sits at 0% for a long time, before eventually failing and switching back to the redownload button. Oh, and the greyed-out "download-in-progress" icon never appears on the home screen for it, either. i usually join this server only when i have an issue (i think this is my 3rd or 4th time here?), but i might stick around - i have seen my specific issue mentioned a few times when i used the search function, but no solution, so here's what can be done so far (from my experimentation):

• iOS <13 users: if you use YouTube Legacy (as of writing this, v1.9.1~beta), and had adblocking features (like YouTube X or uYou tweak) enabled, your account is already flagged for custom client/adblock bypass, serverside; it doesn't matter if you disable or uninstall them. the solution is to use YouTube Legacy + any other YT adblock tweaks, but signed out of your user
• you can use a different user, until that one gets flagged
• you can use YouTube signed in with a YouTube Premium subscription (which removes ads, and thus the need to display them)
• you can use YouTube web, combined with playbackSafari (this allows you to stay signed in, but keeps in-video ads; you can potentially use AdGuard Pro or YouPlay for those, untested on my end but purported to work)
• iOS >13 users: you can simply use tweak/sideloaded YTLite, YTLitePlus, YTKiller, YTKillerPlus, uYou+, uYouEnhanced, whatever is compatible with your iOS (my specific issue only pertains to legacy users like myself)

honorary mention: if you manage to get YouTube to work without ads, but no background playback, you can use the tweak "YouTubed" (spelled as "YouTube" with a 'D' at the end, it's hard to find) to enable background playback, with no configuration or other features

this is until we get an update for YouTube Legacy and/or YouTube X to address the account flagging

it's happening because you are/were using YouTube X or otherwise to block ads, your account is now flagged serverside and buffering is throttled deliberately at 1:10 because you aren't/didn't allow to display ads in the past

only solution to this is use a Premium account that doesn't display ads, use the app signed out, or use YT web with something like playbackSafari or AdGuard Pro

I don't know what hallucinations you reached but it's not a YouTube Legacy issue or some account flagging issue (even on the GH issues there has been no proof of a flag).

This is more of a global issue with YouTube apps involving adblockers (can be observed on both iOS and Android)

The author of YouTube Legacy claims that the app freezes after more than a minute because of ad blocking, but I can prove that ads still appear on YouTube even after a minute, and it freezes after that time. This might be due to YouTube Legacy; I hope the author can fix this bug.

this happened to me yesterday, and i was able to fix this, even better - i can now log in and watch videos normally using said method. the GitHub offers a solution that lets the ad "load", but not really, and then all consequent views (and app launches) nothing gets stuck. i encourage you to go to the PoomSmart GitHub, into one of the issue threads, where someone mentioned how you can bypass the very first ad that messes everything up

here's the solution off the top of my head (but go read the thread anyway):

1. grab the Apps Manager tweak (it's an app) from your package manager; alternatively, grab AppData, and use the 3D menu functionality
2. completely wipe the data for the YouTube app
3. open the YouTube app; this will likely automatically log you in (first initialization). do not interact with any elements in it
4. close the YouTube app and kill it from the switcher
5. open YouTube app again. do not interact with any elements other than the following step
6. search for a random video, a video that's over a minute long, preferably a few minutes long
7. open said video (from search), then seek past 1:10 - when the ad should've natively played. i believe you can also just watch it until then, and let the ad play, but i used this method
8. after getting to this point (and potentially letting the video just play for a few minutes), you can close the app again
9. from now on you'll be able to interact with your Library/Playlists and also watch videos (+background play) without getting stuck, through consequent app launches as well
   (all of this is assuming you're still using YouTube Legacy, as you should be, with or without YouTube X)

there are a lot of uses for jailbreaking, some we're not allowed to talk about here. i can list the uses i get out of it, but maybe if you're a developer/software engineer/whatever you can do more. first and foremost, i get to customize the UI and layout of everything - i can change font, size, placement of UI, number of apps per page/row, remove UI elements i don't like, and tweak color, transparency, add toggles that normally don't exist, add new buttons, use app and badge themes etc etc. iOS is a rather closed down system - with jailbreaking you can directly obtain apps and music without going through the specific interface or services they want you to use. for example, you can download an app that used to exist but was taken down, or download and manage Music app tracks without iTunes, or create and set your own ringtones. you can also globally block ads, or use tweaks for native apps that otherwise wouldn't be available (like YouTube with background play and no ads without Premium). you can downgrade apps and bypass jailbreak restrictions if any such exist. you really just are able to express yourself more and make the system yours, even disable some stuff in the background that you don't need to conserve battery/space/computing power

Tweaks and repos needed to be updated with support for the rootless architecture, and while it is possible to convert tweaks yourself, chances are truthfully pretty low that it'll even work on a version that much newer.

i'll be honest, i'm running into issues with stability particularly ever since i installed Polyfills/MYbloXX; both are supposed to help with the functionality of newer apps and platforms (former helps with broken WebKit sites, latter with intrusive ads), but i often find my apps crash to SB as a result. i used to use Choicy to run particular apps without tweaks when needed, as well as Bakgrunnur for "true" app backgrounding in apps i want to run indefinitely. i try to run iCleaner Pro periodically and disable daemons i don't need. what kind of tweaks would you like recommended? i can simply send over the tweak list i use if you'd like

this is because the archive.org they are using requires you to sign in.

So you get an SSL error because you aren't authenticated to access the files, and I haven't been able to get archive.org to let me sign in on my 4S running 6.1.3

I use Legacy iOS Kit, and just download those files using my Mac.
