alpine is way lighter — like 130mb idle vs mint's 600mb+. but it's not really meant for desktop use. it's built for servers/containers (docker loves it), uses musl libc instead of glibc which breaks a lot of regular linux software, and has no friendly installer or pre-configured desktop.

tl;dr: lighter yes, but a massive pain for daily driving. stick with mint xfce :3
