Hey everyone, I’m honestly stuck and could really use a fresh pair of eyes on this. I’m trying to capture my iPhone game screen with audio into OBS on my MacBook Air M1. The iPhone is connected via a Lightning/USB cable, I’m on a recent macOS version (Sonoma/Sequoia), and my goal is simple: stream or record the iPhone gameplay in OBS while I listen through my Powerbeats connected to the Mac. On the iPhone, it clearly switches to “System Capture”, so the audio is leaving the phone, but my Mac just refuses to hear it.

The weird part is that macOS does recognize the iPhone. In Audio MIDI Setup, the iPhone shows up and I’ve clicked “Enable,” but there’s zero input signal—no meter movement at all. The iPhone never appears as a microphone or audio input in System Settings, QuickTime, or OBS. I’ve already turned off Continuity Camera on the iPhone, reset microphone permissions using tccutil, restarted Core Audio with sudo killall coreaudiod, and tested multiple cable re-plugs while playing audio on the phone to force a handshake. OBS also doesn’t list the iPhone under “Audio Input Capture,” which makes this feel like a macOS-level block, not an OBS issue.

At this point, I’m confused why macOS can see the iPhone over USB but refuses to accept the audio stream as an input. The Sound > Input tab stays completely dead even though the phone is silent and says it’s capturing system audio. Is there some newer macOS security setting, hidden permission, or missing driver that blocks iPhone audio input by default now? Or is Apple just silently preventing this use case? If anyone has actually made this work on Apple Silicon with recent macOS, I’d really appreciate knowing what I’m missing.

i looked into this a bit. for some reason, it seems like on my machine, if OBS is open while i try to "enable" the iphone in audio midi setup, it fails and the iphone doesn't become available.

if i close OBS and then enable the iphone, it does become available successfully, at which point i can open OBS and the iphone appears as an audio input capture device source

can you check and see if these steps also fix the problem for you?

I have an interesting issue. We use OBS to film our sermons of our church. In December, YouTube started to remove the audio from our messages. I cannot figure out why. Nothing has changed in our OBS (we have been using it for a few years now). I can re-export the mp4 file from premiere pro and the same thing will happen after YouTube processes the video. The only way I have been able to get the vidoes to work recently is to export the audio only as an mp3 (creates a new file), re sync the mp3 with the video and re export the video for upload. Thoughts as to what is going on?

I think that only exists on Windows. The Mac version of OBS has all the same options as the Windows version but some is non functional. Like Desktop Audio doesn't work on Mac either.

Probably to keep parity between versions, easier to maintain a UI that way.

The view you see in your application is flipped for you only. This is because most applications expect a webcam, and they want to mimic looking in a mirror for your own preview. Everyone else sees what you see in the OBS preview.

Hey! I know this post doesnt really belong here, but I coudn't get help anywhere else.

Im trying to choose software for a sports livestream Im making, I dont know what is the right option here, for these:

A. We have 3 cameras, 1 connected with a cable, 2 via NDI.
B. We need Graphics, and some really good ones. (Which we have no problem of making)
C. Idc about the setup (if it's not too hard), but it should be simple to control during the livestream.

I asked ChatGPT and it said to use CasparCG for graphics, OBS for cameras, and BitFocus Companion to switch it. The output will come from OBS. I don't know how this would be plausible though.

I looked up CasparCG and it doesn't appear to be for macOS so you are correct, I don't think your question belongs here. Also AI sucks. In general you can't trust AI answers. Unfortunately a lot of people do. AI, for certain things, can be useful, but always be wary of the results.

What we are trying to test is whether your capture card audio is physically broken, or if there's some kind of software problem in OBS or your computer

the simplest way to check if your capture card audio is working is in system settings, under sound. you can select your capture card in the list of devices, and then see if the meter here is moving here (while doing something on your console that produces sound)

I’m at my wits end on getting python scripts to work (in the Scripts option under Tools). I have tried everything I could find to get Python to work but still it says Python isn’t loaded. What is the trick to get this to work?

I use a brew installed python 3.14.2, running in a venv. I tried setting to the bin directory I see via “which python”, but also tried “/opt/homebrew/Cellar/python@3.14/3.14.2/Frameworks”. I’ve also tried 3.13.2.

The video vanished without a trace, I was not even able to use Disk Drill to recover it

I did not delete it, I tried to see if the Mac terminal log showed something, but the Mac terminal log had no sign of something being deleted by a user.

If someone could help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

My guess as to why is that you're on a M5, and that twitch didn't add that to their database yet

not in a way i'd consider reliable, unfortunately. the human-readable version is created from the json by macOS utility applications, and i don't believe there's an automated way to get them

Now for example I did only 15 kps on AV1, and it runs perfectly, although still using %30 of the CPU.

As you expect 15 kps is like a few pixels on video.

I don't know how everyone uses AV1 smoothly and it's kind of standard

But it makes me crash for even very low 1000 kps bitrates

Like Hevc and x264 runs veery smooth on even 20000kps bitrates

and CPu is only at %3-4

It says use a faster encoder preset

Generally you don't want to use AOM- or SVT- AV1 unless you have a very, very powerful CPU. Use hardware encoders instead.

Hi, I'm trying to open 10 browser instances and record them to separate files at the same time. Currently I can get 6 working at a time (with Source Record filter) but it starts to get laggy after that.

I've tried to open 2 separate OBS instances as well (open -na "OBS") but the second instance's browsers are all black.

I've tried using the parall plugin (https://parall.app/) to open my second OBS instance, and the browser source loads but doesn't have the Source Record filter.

Any help would be super appreciated 🙏

I have an Elgato 4K X and I did a stream where in OBS I turned the sound down for the Elgato quite a lot. I could barely hear it. But when I went back to watch the stream recording on Twitch the game volume was much higher than I was hearing. It was making it somewhat hard to hear my voice. I took the plunge today and upgraded to Tahoe 26.2 and can confirm... there are no issues with the latest version of OBS i can spot on my m1 max, despite all the reports i read when it launched that talked about frame drops. I didn't experience this. Just letting you all know!

I am experiencing bad performance issues with OBS on my MacBook Pro (M3 Max, 64GB RAM) running macOS Tahoe 26.2 (25C56).

The situation is as follows: even without being live, the app is unusable. Everything freezes. When I try to switch between scenes, the entire OBS application blocks and becomes unresponsive. The video preview is extremely laggy/freezing, updating only about once every 30 seconds (like a slideshow ^^').

**Refresh Rate: **I have set both my monitor and OBS to 60 Hz, but it doesn't solve the freeze.
**Hardware: **I am using an external LG 4K monitor connected via USB-C.
**Settings: **I am using the Apple VT H.264 Hardware Encoder (6000 Kbps, CBR).

I really want to keep my scenes preview active so I can see my what i'm showing while streaming, but I know this might be adding to the lag. Do you have any specific setup advice or hidden settings to stop the application from freezing and lagging like this?

If anyone could help me out, that would be really cool! Thank you very much!

Update: Brio works in Photo Booth. In OBS it goes black until I switch the Video Capture Device to a different device (Insta360/iPhone) then back to Logitech BRIO, then it works. This happens across multiple master scenes. Any known cause/fix? I’m on OBS 32.0.0 and macOS 26.2. Also using nested scenes.

There are many differently named sources all trying to use the same camera, only one source by name can use a cam at any time, so switching between scenes and loading up OBS make you have to refresh it.

Remove any camera sources and leave only one, reuse that in multiple scenes. You could do this a nested scene if you prefer.

So your choices are 720x1280, which is a little shorter than your screen, or 1080x1920 a little taller. Neither will be a perfect representation of what you see because of rescaling. I would choose 720x1280 myself, just bc it's closer to your native resolution.

!editors Can always look at a more full featured editor, tha lets you specify the export resolution, instead of working with presets, like DaVinci Resolve. It's free, and quite a few of us use it.

Hi, I’m having trouble with my life presentation and obvious Studio. My current set up is: I have a source as browser with DURL from a Google slide for my presentation and my scene is set to an extended monitor, but every time I click on the browser for the slides and I click on interact when I change my slides, it is skipping one slide going from slide number one to slide number three instead of going from slide number 1, 2 and then 3. Please let me know if there’s a fix for this. Is there any settings that I might change? Any guidance helps.

Hello all. This hasn't been an issue until lately but here's what's been occurring over the last few dj streams i do on twitch. I am running virtual dj, obs, now playing (shows song ID info) on a macbook. Lately i'm hearing a dropout of the audio (i monitor audio through my headphones), then when i go to speak on the mic, there's a delay in what i'm saying and what i'm hearing, making it impossible to actually speak. Checking online the first culprit seems to be making sure all audio sample rates are consistent (at 44.1khz in my case) on everything including obs and vdj. ChatGPT says "turn mic monitoring off in obs and monitor mic through your audio interface instead". Looking at obs setting i don't even see mic monitoring as an option, and not sure what is meant by the last part of that suggestion. I can do a short term fix when this happens, by re applying the audio settings in VDJ, but then eventually it comes back again. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

In the OBS mixer window, click the cog icon at the bottom of it. That opens the Advanced Audio Properties window. You will want your mic set to "monitor off" there so you don't hear it delayed back at you.

Hello, I'm using Macbook Air and want to stream playing chess on Lichess.
However, i face the following issue: if I select Browser as source then I have no more control over the screen (e.g. showing my cursor making moves on the board etc.), but if I select Display Capture, which just shares the screen as is (the infinite obs loop view) then I need one screen where I control OBS and another desktop screen where I actually play. Whenever I switch from chess screen desktop, to OBS one by swiping screens with three fingers on touchpad on laptop, whole stream also shows that I'm on OBS screen.

A Windows user / streamer friend has no issues when doing Display Capture, it just has the option of capturing the Window as a method

Docks in OBS can be managed from the Docks menu in the main OBS window.

You can toggle docks on and off, or lock or unlock docks to prevent moving and editing, as well as add custom browser-based docks here.

You can also reset the UI from this menu to return your docks to their original state (Docks > Reset Docks).

Thanks, but Lichess is in-browser, not a desktop app / offline app so this option doesn't work for me. I've found out there is 'Interact' button tho, allows me to interact with page via some pop-up.

!n Not much of a Mac guy, but... You seem to be having some network issues. Also, you're using a software encoder, and your Mac ain't happy with it. You have a couple Hardware encoders H264 and HEVC, so those would be better options.

Encoding overloaded, it is a problem with how macOS renders it. Best way to fix it? Tab out every once in a while and make sure it's still recording. If it isn't, click on the three dots and click Properties. Then click restart capture.

Hi friends. Having a super annoying bug happening right now that I'm not sure how to fix. I created an additional profile and scene collection, each for kick, and the kick profile contains 4 custom kick docks. Every time i switch back to the twitch profile and twitch scenes, and then switch back to the kick profile/scenes, it is as if obs has amnesia and doesn't have any of my kick docks, only the custom docks set in twitch profile. i have to uncheck/re-check them all over again and re-position them every time. i've tried closing and re-opening obs to make it "stick", but it's as if twitch keeps taking over the world in obs every time i switch over. how do i make this stop happening?

The first suspect you want to look at would be browser sources and custom browser docks (if you have any). When the unwanted music plays, scroll through the OBS mixer window and see if any sources have moving bars. OBS does not add any audio on its own, so it comes from a source or dock.

Yeah that bit is normal. It's not displaying the timeline thing immediately. It shows the waveform after it's recorded. I think you're right that something is wrong with the capture card audio.

I'm not sure. Maybe an aux cable from controller directly into the computer, not to the capture card that has faulty audio device. You'd have to research carefully that it's the correct ends.

I was having issues with audio from my capture card, today I finally (don’t know how) got it working but it stutters. Recorded the capture card audio in audacity and it’s smooth but on OBS it cuts. All the sample rates are the same, cpu usage is at 6%. Not sure what could be causing the issue. I’ve even tried reinstalling OBS as it seems the capture card isn’t the issue like I previously thought

i would suspect that the issue is the connection between the card and your machine. i would make sure you have it connected with a connection that is fully USB3 (5.0 gbps+) capable. if that isn't the issue, it appears you have a fairly cheap model of capture card, and the audio is somewhat known to crap out on the bottom-of-the-barrel cards

that video does not have any audio in it. it has an audio track, but there isn't anything on it. check the settings for your audio source and make sure that it's set to "output" and not just "monitor only"

the audio glitch in that recording corresponds with a hitch in the video as well. in the log you uploaded, there is also a disconnect and reconnect event during the recording. that would indicate a connection issue

It’s not the bot stuff we look at, it’s the actual log text. In this case nothing stats related shows because Custom FFMPEG mode doesn’t show that info. and is “you’re on your own” territory. Why do you need custom output?

also adding to this: it seems that the issue frequently occurs when disk nearly run out of space (like a few gb left) whereas when there are good amount og space (100gb+) the issue occurs less frequently

there are video issues in this recording as well (on the left). this quite clearly looks to me like a bad connection

you can verify that your connection is actually USB 3.0 capable via the terminal:

1. open Terminal.app (located in /Applications/Utilities)
2. type in the following and hit enter:
   system_profiler SPThunderboltDataType SPUSBDataType

the output will contain info about the connection between your machine and the card. could you paste the output here?

I know for a fact the usb ports support 3.0… if it’s a connection issue then it can only be the cables but if that where true then why does audacity sound smooth… It has to be something to do with OBS and the card interacting surely

the connection appears to be usb 3 capable, but i would still suspect it of being faulty, so i would try with a different cable, ideally one with a direct connection and without an adapter

as for why audacity doesn't appear to have similar issues, different programs talk to devices differently. just because it works or appears to work in audacity does not mean the connection is working fine, necessarily

So it might just be OBS and the way it’s interacting with the card/ connection than the connection its self ?. Is there a different way to test the connection ? I would have thought process of elimination… the card works in audacity fine, it doesn’t work in obs.. surely the issue is with obs ?

Or atleast how obs is interacting with the card…. If it was the connection or card I would expect it to fail in other places also. I will try a 3.0 - USB C direct cable tomorrow.

audacity is only asking for audio. while OBS is asking for audio and video; that demands much more from the connection with the device. we cannot really examine how macOS is handling the connection between the device and whatever program it is. nevertheless, the connection is still what i would suspect given what you've shown here

i don't think that would impact this sort of issue. there's never a situation where one should work and one shouldn't, and i don't think you can narrow anything down by looking at different behavior between the two

In time I will be looking to upgrade the capture card but we all know how expensive they are… I have a friend who uses the same capture card as me but on a Xbox with a much worse laptop and her stream is ok so you can understand my frustration 😂
