Delay is natural since it takes time to encode the video, send the video to the service, then have the service send the video out. Also, every single viewer will have a different delay to some degree based on a number of factors, including distance to the servers, as well as if they are watching a transcoded "quality/resolution" feed.

How long is the delay that you have measured?

not really, and as i said, each viewer will have a different delay. Ive done delay tests on stream before and the delays range from 5 seconds to 20 seconds, depending on the responses from chat

this is for MY streams delay. yours will be different, just like everyones will be different.

If you are on Twitch or YouTube, there are lower latency settings you can enable. However, if they are already enabled, there isnt much more to be done

Unfortunately, this didn’t work as expected. Even with only a single microphone source, OBS starts lagging after some time. It only returns to normal once I deactivate the audio interface.
I would actually try using a different audio interface, but everything works perfectly with Meld Studio.
I might move the whole setup to my gaming PC and test the same scenario with OBS there.

OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:

1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side

• (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
• (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
  3. restart OBS Studio

Hey all. First time caller, short time listener. I'm attempting to test streaming using Star Stream and OBS. Star Stream comes with two GoPros that have what they call SRT links associated with each camera. I put these SRT links as the source and my camera view is supposed to come up. They are not. The cameras are streaming on Star Stream's watch page, but it's not making it to OBS.

The tutorials that I've watched have said that as long as your cameras are streaming they will show up in OBS and I can go from there. But I got nada. Any ideas?

Anyone using OBS on a MAC to capture iRacing content?

I have audio from the game pc going to hd60x connected to through the HDMI cable but OBS whenever it decides to stop capturing audio suddenly. My current work around requires the usb cable to be unplugged and reconnected. Not ideal, just reaching out to the Jedi amongst you all

Update: I was able to solve the issue 🙂
It appears to be a problem involving Apple’s CoreAudio, the Focusrite interface, and the Apple Silicon chip. This combination seems to cause packet stalls, resulting in OBS not receiving enough data.
But Papa wouldn’t be Papa if there wasn’t a solution to be found. So what to do? If I can’t connect the audio interface directly to OBS, I simply take a detour and run everything through a virtual interface. And since I’ve been using the “Loopback” software on my Mac for quite some time, this turned out to be very easy. With it, I can even cleanly set up separated inputs for the Shure mic and the Audio-Technica headset.
I added the Focusrite to Loopback twice—once for each mic. For the Shure mic, I take the left channel, disable the right channel, and then use the virtual interface in OBS as the microphone input. In OBS, I set the interface to mono and added the appropriate filters. I did the same for the Audio-Technica headset (choosing the right channel in Loopback and disabling the left).
Yesterday, I ran OBS for several hours, created new scenes, switched between them frequently—there wasn’t a single lag or crash.
I even took it a step further and used VBAN Talkie (on the Mac) and VBAN Receptor (on the gaming PC) to send the mic signal from the Mac over my network to the Windows PC, so I can use it there as an in-game voice mic.

Hey guys, hope you are good! I have a problem with my OBS on my M1 Pro Mac. My screen recoding is always freezing after I open OBS. My facecam is still running and my audio is also working perfectly, but after 2-3 mins. I always need to restart OBS because of the frozen screen. Somebody knows whats the problem? Software is latest version and I restarted Mac and OBS multiple times now.

OBS 32.0.3 is rather broken on MacBook Air M2 (2023 model), running latest version of MacOS 26.1….

Just updated OBS Studio to 32.0.3 on my MacBook Air M2 15.3 inch (2023 model), and it essentially removed the YouTube Live Chat dock after updating from 32.0.2. Each and every time I’ve closed OBS and reopen the Live Chat dock goes away and will not come back until I’ve signed out of my YouTube channel in OBS settings and sign back in.

I’ve seen a lot of reports recently where people have had a lot of dramatic frame drops like I have had, probably something to do with YouTube’s servers tho

Like for me, I have my bitrate set to 16000kbps for 1440p60 resolution for both streams and recordings and YouTube kept saying in the YouTube live control panel thing (the box on the lefthand side that usually says excellent), kept saying warning bitrate was too low somehow saying I should set it to 3500kbps 🤷🏻‍♀️

I did an internet speed test and found I should have no problem doing 2K60 (2560x1440 at 60FPS) streams

I tried to resolve the above issue by looking up sooooo many different things and no matter what I tried nothing wanted to work, I even tried the 3500kbps like YouTube stupidly wanted me to do for the bitrate and that was no help whatsoever

Hi, I need your help.
I was recording replays of 0 A.D. in 4K without any problems; I even have some uploaded. But something happened. It's not working properly anymore. The game lags a lot, and the video quality is poor. I've tried everything I can think of: lowering the FPS, using different codecs, different resolutions, bitrates, file extensions, scaling, switching from Sequoia to Sonoma or Tahoe, lowering the graphics settings in the game, etc. But I haven't been able to get the settings and performance back to normal so I can play and record at the same time. I have a 2019 MacBook Pro, 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7, AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB, 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4. Please help.

I think the solution is, me being a good boy and always close Youtube Live Control Panel every time before quitting OBS screen.

OBS Studio blocked by macOS Screen Time – app not visible / cannot be allowed

Hi, I need help with a Screen Time issue on macOS.

I am using a MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon (M1).
OBS Studio is already installed, but I cannot use it at all:

OBS does not appear anywhere in Screen Time → Apps

There is no “Ask for more time” button

When I press Cmd + Q, I hear the system “blocked” beep

The app launches but is completely restricted / unresponsive

Important details:

Screen Time is managed by Family Sharing

My parents do not own a Mac, only iPhone/iPad

Screen Time settings are controlled from iOS, not from the Mac

OBS is located in /Applications

OBS was likely blocked on its first launch

We already tried:

Allowing OBS in Screen Time on iPhone/iPad

Checking App Limits

Allowing all apps

Allowing obsproject.com in Web Content

None of these worked because OBS never appears in the Screen Time app list.

At this point, Screen Time seems to block OBS on a system level, not per-app.

Question:
Is there a known workaround or recommended way to make Screen Time “recognize” OBS so it can be allowed properly on macOS (Apple Silicon)?

Hey guys, I'm new to OBS in general and I'm trying to record a video in Roblox. Usually I start recording, join a game and then everything is fine. The problem is when I turn on voice chat in roblox, the audio out of my headphones stops working. When I check the recording, it sounds like a normal recording with zero bugs at hand. Any help?

If your audio is muting when you launch OBS, and you're using a Bluetooth headset, it's caused by the underlying design of Bluetooth. To fix this, you can either switch to a wired headset, don't use the Bluetooth headset's mic, or set your sound to go through the HFP device for your headset.

Note: HFP offers lower sound quality.

I need some help with OBS, I haven’t had any problems with dropped frames before but I moved to Washington from Ohio and I just tried my first stream the other day and it was so so so bad

I ran a speed test on my WiFi, updated my MacBook, and updated the firmware for my elgato capture card but the dropped frames stay in red off the rip of starting stream

Dropped frames are 100% a network issue and have nothing to do with your capture card.

It's your Internet Search Provider. You call them, and explain you can't stream without dropping frames. Making sure they know by stream, you mean stream you a service, and not like Netflix streaming.

For high-quality, no fuss recordings on macOS:

Apple Silicon Macs: use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:

1. In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
2. In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
3. Set your Video Encoder to "Hardware, H.264" (more compatible) or "Hardware, HEVC" (smaller file size).

Just updated from OBS v32.02 to 32.0.4 and the same issue happened again where the live chat box dock thing disappears when I quit OBS and reopen it. Same issue.

Chat not even an option amongst the dock list, same thing for 32.0.3 before that was deprecated. The only solution was to sign out of my YT channel and back in again. Guess I’m going back to 32.0.2 again

I need assistance configuring Source Record with a clean replay function in OBS on my MacBook.

I currently have multiple sources inside a single scene. However, I want to record only the main camera source (without any overlays, widgets, or graphics)

so that when I press a replay hotkey:

1. OBS records only the clean main camera feed.
2. The replay clip should save automatically.
3. Then the replay video plays instantly on screen.
4. Each time the replay hotkey is pressed, OBS should automatically play the latest replay clip.

@OBS Mac subject matter experts... okay so I have been using OBS to stream for years from two iMacs. One I retired due to age & operating system support. The current iMac I stream from is an iMac M1 w/Apple M1 Chip & Sonoma 14.6.1 (23G93). The issue is it worked fine yesterday... today for some reason it froze the game stream. I have good Internet connection. When that happened I had to quit OBS, & then relaunch it to get it to work again. It kept freezing so I had to do that many times. I am just streaming Raid Shadow Legends for Mac by Plarium. It is not a very resource demanding game. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Try using meld, for some reason it never works fine on my macbook pro m3. I thought it was a hardware issue but by using meld and tiktok live studio at the same time I realized it's powerful enough

heyy the recordings i make of my gameplay for some reason come out much duller, im running display capture on a m4 macbook, not quite sure how to fix that

I have a pretty basic question (I'm hoping it's basic!). I am running OBS 32.0.4 and Stream Deck 7.1.0 on a macOS Sequoia 15.7.3.
When I open OBS it gives me the error message "OBS plugins failed to load: StreamDeckPlugin". Also, OBS won't allow me to add new sources (when I click on the "+" button, nothing happens). I have found that if I operate in safe mode, I can add sources then. Weird. Anyone have any idea what I need to do to fix these issues?

Ah i see - thank you! I've set it up to twitch. Playing around with the Settings because i get a Framerender delay at about 12-15ms just with the Bandwith Test and no additional Recording. Makes me Wonder that the M4 should be Powerful enough

You can't use HEVC on Twitch except for if you are using Enhanced Broadcasting and been accepted to the 1440p beta.

The Game Capture source is made for Windows only and is not available on macOS. To capture games, you should macOS Screen Capture (macOS 13 and later) or Window/Display Capture (macOS 12 and prior).

Due to a change in the way Roblox works, OBS Studio's Game Capture source is unable to capture it. As a workaround, please use Window Capture instead:

1. add a new Window Capture source
2. select Roblox from the window list
3. change the Capture Method to "Windows 10"

On Windows 10, you will see a yellow border around the game which cannot be disabled. This is not visible in your stream and can be ignored (use the `!yellow` command for more info).

I tried both 32.0.4 and down graded and test 32.0.3. I rebooted. Also another user had the same problem with audio suddenly stopping working on a mac 16 hours earlier. I have auto update turned off on my Mac so there should not have been any OS updates overnight.

I'm mainly an audio guy and I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to do what I want to do. I'm on a Mac M4 Studio with 48GB ram. I want to record video and audio from three separate NearStream VM33 cameras at the same time while simultaneously recording audio to ProTools. All the audio and video, including the ProTools mix, would be moved to editing software. The audio from the cams is simply to enable everything to line up in editing software. The PT audio will be the final audio. I'm unsure what the best way to accomplish all this is. It would be reasonably easy to use a wired setup (USB-C) but configuring OBS, which I'm new to, is the issue. Any thoughts, direction, experience or ideas would really be helpful. Thanks in advance. Apologies if I'm on the wrong page.

Hi, I'm on windows but the windows-support is helping someone else right now, I thought since my question is likely pretty basic and probably isn't affected by operating system, it would be fine to ask here.

So, what I'm trying to do is display a PowerPoint slide show on my second monitor while having the slide sorter open for easy slide hopping. I've gotten Obs to display on my second monitor by right-clicking the preview and choosing Open Preview Projector, but I don't know how to disconnect the Obs display from what PowerPoint is actually showing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried Studio Mode hoping I could just change the slide, then update the second monitor, but Open Preview Projector seems to update automatically.

I just downloaded Obs and am as new as someone who just watched 2 youtube tutorials.

Hi, I have been having an issue with streaming to twitch, kick, youtube and even tiktok where my bitrate is stuck under 2,000 kbps even tho I do have my bitrate set to 8,000 kbps for multi-streaming. Now I have contacted kick which they gave me an SRT which seems to be the only way for me to get a proper stream going. I have contacted my ISP which there is nothing wrong there. Is there maybe an issue with OBS that could be leading to this or is it with the latest update with Tahoa 26.2 that is causing the bottle neck. I am streaming on a Mac Mini M1 and have been using the same settings that always allowed me to have clear streams without issues until last week thursday. Also have re-installed OBS and changed multiple settings with the same issue. Would really appreciate assistance

I have tried the list of trouble shooting before which still doesn't fix the issue that I have been having. As I have stated I have had contact with the Kick Support where they said it was my connection to the servers and after checking with my ISP there was nothing from their side. This issue only happened after I updated to Apples new version of Tahoa which is 26.2

Hey guys, Im currently facing this issue: When recording in OBS on macOS, I want to capture both the screen and my webcam at the same time. However, sometimes during recording the screen capture completely freezes on the first frame, while the webcam and audio continue recording normally. I noticed a clear pattern: when the purple screen recording indicator is active, everything works correctly, but when the green camera indicator appears, the screen freezes and stops updating.

I figured out the lag behind my stream. I connected my mic and soundcard to the Airbok M3. That's what caused the dropped frames. Now, I'd just record with the Macbook Mic.

hello, I am having an issue where I turn on OBS and use replay buffer at an integer fps value of 120, and the resulting clip seems normal but after a few seconds it starts to have a slow-mo effect. I am on a macbook pro (m4 pro) and the slow-mo effect is still smooth, and at the end the clip is in normal speed again. I am not sure how to fix this. Hi, i got my brand new Macbook Air M4 yesterday and OBS is not having the right colour as I connect my Nintendo Switch.
It never was a problem when i use my old M1 Macbook.
All software is up to date and I use the same capture card and everything as i did on my M1. Settings is the same.
Why is that?

I have the video to USB clearclick that I'm trying to convert old Hi8 tapes from a Sony camcorder. I had used the OBS software over a year ago to export something and ran into the desync'd audio from video issue. I managed to get the settings figured out at that time. I opened the software recently and it prompted me to update. Now those original settings I had no longer work and I can't seem to find a solution. The audio always finds a way to desync. Hey team, I’ve been using OBS with my Mac Studio 2023, Elgato 4KX for some time with my PS5 with no issues. Will become relvant soon, I also have a Kinvio HDMI switch as my monitor only has 1 HDMI and I use the monitor for other things - for simplicity Mac > Elgato via USBC, Elgato HDMI in > PS5, Elgato HDMI out > Switch > Monitor.

I just got a PC running Win 11 which I thought I could switch out the PS5 for the PC and it would work. But OBS only gives me a black screen on the preview with my PC plugged in the same way as the PS5. I’ve tried various different HDMI’s and combos, the only way I can get around it is by plugging the PC directly into the monitor and bypassing the switch altogether.

Interestingly I tried Elgato Studio which is picking up the PC with the original set up via the switch fine. My set up is so convoluted that I can’t find a similar situation online 😛 Can anyone shine a light on why OBS might not be picking up the PC as a source from the switch?

I know I could capture direct to my PC but I use Final Cut Pro and want to avoid the whole transfer situation between Windows and macOS.

I have it all running over a PoE switch which is also run to the Mac Mini that i have downloaded OBS on. My OS is in mac OS 26.2 and the Mac mini is a M2. Is there a way to route the game audio to a discord voice chat stream? I’m capturing PS5 with a Elgato 4K X. But I don’t seem to able to stream the game sound to the channel, only the game video and my voice.

Specifically I’m trying to stream both to discord and twitch and have the people in the discord chat see and hear both the game and my voice and they can talk to me. I want to play single player games and have my friends be able to watch me play live and be in the voice chat that is being streamed. Hopefully I’m making sense. Hey, all... I have a transition video element that I'd like to use to transition in to video playback pre-rolls (Media Source). It's a 40 frame ProRes 4444 video clip that starts out fully transparent. At frame 20, a visual element has animated in and fills the entire frame. Then from frame 20 to 40 it animates out, leaving the video completely transparent again. I want to play this video and then start playing a second video Media Source layered below the transition video at exactly 20 frames in to the animation video. Is there a way to do this within OBS so I don't have to render the transition into all of my video rolls?

I noticed yesterday that the video quality I’m getting on Twitch is quite poor. I think it’s compression artifacts? The video gets smudgy when moving. I just have stream settings at the defaults. Is there a way to make it look better? If I record instead it looks pretty good.

I had the canvas as 1080p, and the stream 1080p60. I don’t think it’s my internet. I have 300/300 service and I’m using Ethernet. Speedtest actually gives me slightly better results than that. But also I don’t recall streaming direct from my PS5 ever having this issue. That always looked good.

I tried various things to see if it would help and now I’m not sure what the state is. I did get it a little better, but not great. I’m also having a hell of a time getting the colors and such to look right, but that’s a different issue.

I was watching another stream I did with this setup and there is absolutely no way it’s running at 60 fps. At best it’s 30. Then I went back to streams I made direct from the PS5 and they look great. Certainly 1080p60 and only the most minimal of compression artifacts. I want to get that result from the game video. What’s the secret?

Also is it better to have the video from the Elgato be 4K60 and I scale down to 1080p (or less?) or should the video from the Elgato be 1080p? I tried both and am not sure if it made a difference. I’m also doing HDR to SDR and then using a color filter to try to make it look good color and brightness wise. When I just took the HDR as-is I think maybe it looked better on the stream, but too dark. I tried to just brighten the HDR and not convert to SDR, but no changes I made to the numbers seemed to have any effect. By this I mean the color filter that keeps it HDR.

Strange thing happened to me today in OBS . I started OBS and it wasn’t picking up any of the scenes files from my Drive. I had upgraded to the latest software. I kept restarting a computer. No scenes. However I downgraded to an e previous version and then it all came back again all the scenes. Is this known bug?

I’m having an issue where OBS is cutting off the bottom of screen from game capture source (pls help)

I play on a 4k Monitor with and Xbox series X. I am using the Elgato HD60X and Mac. I've tried using transform and fit to screen but it does not work. It looks as if my game as shifted down, cutting off the bottom from screen and I'm left with these striped bars at the top.
Sometimes when I start up OBS it captures my full monitor screen like normal but then when I load up a game the issue will occur and remain even if i've exited the game. Sometimes when I open OBS the source won't show until I delete it and recreate the source.

Please help, I've been trying to fix this all day.

Ok, I have some minor issues that I'm not sure if it's a Mac thing (I'm on a M4 Air running Tahoe 26.1) or the recent OBS update, and my Google-fu/search-fu is failing me.

1. Since the update, when I start OBS, the window opens bigger than my screen. I use a monitor and my macbook screen, and use OBS on my macbook screen for streaming.
2. On the last version of OBS, I had to start Music before I started OBS in order for the macOS Audio Capture to work, now I have to go into the source each time I open OBS to set it to the Music app. (It doesn't auto-detect the app anymore.
3. The video capture source keeps flipping my macbook camera video upside down whenever I want to rearrange my scene. I do use the "transform" to make it work, but it's been doing this every time. (I'm also open to using a different camera for this one, since I do have a logitech streamcam available.)

Yes, I know I can adjust all these, etc, but it's really irritiating having to do it every single time the app opens. I do realize I could have something set up in my mac that's wonky, but as I said, my Google-fu is failing me. TIA.

Hi. I have been having issues with macOS Tahoe 26.3 on an M4 Mac Mini:

The recording freezes on a frame. Audio continues, but video doesn't, and anything else being recorded also stops, only mic input continues.

My encoder is HEVC, I save to a separate drive, restarting the capture fixes this bug temporarily, VT doesn't fix it, 60 FPS isn't the problem. I also have it using Fragmented MOV. Which...also doesn't work.

I installed that and I don’t see any macros in the settings for it. There is a thing to put in the path to the python executable, but no macros. No acriots. It only seems to offer switching the scene when a window is opened?

Well, sorta. I'm trying to run a shell script but nothing happens and I don't see anything helpful in the log.

I also tried doing this via running a python script that starts the shell script, but that isn't working either. It's like nothing is happening at all

So that script is very simple. It runs a python script. You may ask, why don't I just run the python script.

Well, the python script depends on being run in an venv. So the shell script activates it and then runs the python script

That's the shell script

When I run it from the terminal it works fine

I tried having it (in the macro) wait for it to complete, up to 30 seconds. Didn't make any difference

Maybe I need to see about getting this to run without a venv. I isntalled latest python via homebrew and it doesn't want you to use pip3 directly. Instead it says to use a venv

byt you should be able to run the script directly in the venv by using the arguments?

Something has occurred to me that could be the issue... let me do an experiment

I tried using an example script and if I try to run it from the command line the "import obspython" fails because it doesn't exist. I tried doing "pip3 install obspython" also tried "obs" but no such module like that is found

Does that only work when run directly? In any case I put in what it seems to want in there and still it doesn't run. I wish I could run a Shortcut, because I have a Shortcut I run that works, but I can't seem to get to run via Advanced Scene Changer even if I save it as an app and then have it open that app

Ok, I got that to work, actually. It appears it does not like spaces in the path. When I took the spaces out of the shortcut app name then the Run action works. So this will be fine. Just wish it handled spaces in the path. Even selecting the app via the browser puts the spaces in and then it doesn't work. Is this a bug or a feature?
