Hi, I'm using two monitors, my laptop's Retina display and a large HP monitor. When I try to do a video screen capture, it only shows part of the screen. In the attached screen shot of my entire monitor screen, the pink rectangle shows the area that OBS will capture. This problem persists even if I unplug the large monitor and just use the built-in Retina display. I've gone to the settings and adjusted the Video "Base" and "Output" resolutions to match my monitor's dimensions, but this has no effect. What am I doing wrong?

Good morning, I downloaded blackhole to use in OBS and I want to separate Spotify to its own track and audio desktop on its own track so i can keep Spotify from recording where it shouldn't be but i cant find anything anywhere that tells me how to do this for a mac. Theres videos for it but they always suggest doing something I cant do. Like change Spotify sound settings within the app, you cant its just regular system settings. God bless everyone ❤️ I have a VERY strange problem with OBS Studio. Every camera feed is pre-chroma key'ed with a picture that I do not know where comes from. In Photo Booth, FaceTime and in Streamer Labs it all shows my feed perfect as it should. But not in OBS Studio. I have no plug-ins installed, and have reinstalled OBS many times now. I've removed ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio many times without any luck. I've asked my AI-friend Grok, and we can not seem to find out what the problem is. It all works when I log in to a new user on my Macbook M2 pro, but not my main user. This is very very strange. All my feeds are in chrome key and a picture behind my video, even my FaceTime HD camera and iPhone is affected. I have no programes other than all of Adobe and MAXON Cinema 4D and Blender installed... I really need som help from you pros 🙂

Hello, so I'm having a big problem with the encoding of my stream. I'm streaming on a MacBook Air M1 and playing on PS5 with an Elgato card. Everything was working fine, but for a few streams I've been getting a message telling me that the encoder is overloaded, and today the stream was completely choppy, it was impossible to watch. I've tried lowering the resolution, FPS, video and audio bitrate, I even reinstalled OBS, but nothing works, it's still overloaded. I've applied the settings OBS recommends, but it's still the same problem. I don't know what else to do; I don't think the MacBook Air M1 isn't powerful enough for streaming since it was working fine until now. the audio mixer is picking up the sound, and the sound setting of the computer is set to vb audio cable

hello i just started using obs on mac to record my gameplay but i cant see the features to record on mac like the (Application Audio) Capture or the (MacOs screen capture) and as i showed in the photo on the top its the latest version, someone please help me, ive been trying to find a solution for days.

both of these are only availabe on macOS 13 or later due to the underlying operating system functionality only existing from there. If you can, update your macOS version.

Hello I have an issue where it looks like my frame rate has droppede but I. havee not changed any settings. My streaming setup usually stays stationary with eveerything plugged in, but I cleaned eveerything so I unplugged all the cables conntecting to my camera, mic, power, and network. Ever since plugging back everything in, it seems like my framee rate has dropped or somee seetting has changed that makes my stream look choppy. I did not change any OBS settings, only cleaned my computer and everything. Hoping someonee can help me get back to the old stream quality with clean frame ratee and no choppiness

Did you find a solution? I’ve been struggling with this too. At one point i changed the “Input EDID Mode” on the Elgato Capture Device Utility from Display to Internal and it brightened the image, the next day it went back to dim. If you find a solution, I’m all ears.

I had to turn off HDR on my ps5, then I added the HDR tone mapping filter in OBS for my capture properties and set it to sdr: Reinhard then I added the color adjustment filter, forgot what it’s called, it’s the one that lets you mess with contrast and saturation and I increased those a tiny bit, just enough so it closely matched the colors on my display, it doesn’t take much, but all that combined got it close enough for my satisfaction

I’ve been streaming on Twitch using OBS for the past 3 years without any major issues. I’m using a 2019 iMac, and my setup includes the Elgato HD60 X capture card and the Elgato Cam Link 4K.

However, for the past two weeks, I’ve noticed serious performance problems:
• My Mac slows down significantly while streaming
• I experience frequent FPS drops in OBS
• Even when I’m not recording or live, simply opening OBS causes UVCAssistant to spike to ~70% CPU usage, according to Activity Monitor

These issues started suddenly and have made streaming very difficult. I haven’t made major changes to my setup, so I’m unsure what triggered it.

The weird thing is when i streamed the same set up directly through youtube, the video lag problem is gone. Not really sure what to do. I've tried restarting obs, computer, camera. So I have an issue with my iPhone 13 Pro Max: I'm using it as a facecam with Continuity (via USB, not Wifi, which is turned off), have the resolution at 1280x720, turned off Center Stage and other effects, and most importantly at 60fps. The problem is that about an hour later, the framerate on the Continuity camera via iPhone 13 Pro Max drops down to less than 30fps and stays in such a lower framerate, but everything else runs fine and smooth in 60fps (capture card, notifications, overall stream, etc.), so Idk what else is wrong with Wired Continuity having issues right now.

I'm a retro streamer and I want to stream some games from my old Mac G4 MDD. It is running OSX 10.3 and has a DVI card in it, running 800x600 75Hz. I have a DVI to HDMI cable that works great just plugging into a monitor, and I have it plugged in to the ElGato HD60S+. It's passing the signal through to the monitor I use to play the games, but OBS is just showing a black screen. I have fiddled with the different resolutions on both sides, powered everything on and off again a few times and checked all connections. Our needs:
We would like to be streaming our high school's indoor sporting events (basketball, volleyball) to Youtube. We plan to make use of less than 4 video sources using NDI and possibly get an audio feed from a mixing board for some events, fed in through USB. We might also be importing some video through HDMI to USB capture cards. We would be streaming through RMTP to Youtube and maybe have an NDI output so that the stream can be viewed on the TV's around the building.

I understand that Windows are preferred hardware. We do have access to a gaming laptop that some teacher purchased and then had to leave behind (long story) when he switched districts, which we could possibly use, but I'm also afraid of some student volunteer (who will be doing the livestreaming often unsupervised) installing all kinds of games or crap on it or even running off with it. I feel that a Mac might be easier to lock down, security wise, so that the user can't install a bunch of crap. Would a 2018/2019 era Macbook Pro with an i7 CPU be sufficient for our needs?

Hey everyone - I put this in the audio section but I didn’t get a response, so I’m hoping I can get some help here.

The issue: When I'm streaming, my mic will mute or unmute itself, and it will completely mute all audio sources in OBS (Application Audio Capture). I don't know what the cause can be. The mic I use is the Wave XLR with the Wave DX. I also uninstalled the Wave Link software to see if that was the issue, but the issue happened again with that software uninstalled.

Hey all! Quick question about Discord mirroring the video camera in a voice channel. I host a movie night where I use the OBS virtual camera, which is not mirrored when I turn the video into Zoom. However, when I enable video in Discord, the image is reflected. Do you have any suggestions on how I can help resolve this issue?

The view you see in your application is flipped for you only. This is because most applications expect a webcam, and they want to mimic looking in a mirror for your own preview. Everyone else sees what you see in the OBS preview.

A follow-up on my question about the mirrored video in Discord. I reached out to Discord support to ask if there is something within Discord that I can change. Everything seems to be as it should be, but they suggested asking if OBS has any issues with the virtual camera in Discord for mirroring.

The way you see things on the OBS preview is how they will be to your Discord viewers. So if you hold up text and you can read it, then you know it's okay, and just Discord showing it to you mirrored

Pixelated and Blurry LiveStream

With the above settings, my stream looks blurry. When the camera moves it looks blurry and pixelated.

The above both are the same stream with the difference being that for youtube I set 10000Kbps of bitrate for it to still look pixelated and blurry on movement.

What settings do I need to change for it to not look pixelated, blurry and shimmerish.

You can raise your bitrate to YouTube to up to 51 Mbps.

With twitch you are basically against a wall, since they dont offer the needed bitrates to get 1080p to look good for faster paced games

To some degree. YouTube reencodes anything you send them. Sending 1440p+ to them can provide a better transcode than 1080p.

When this happens to me, i usually open it up in safe mode, which isn't great because you can't open up things like filters. But once its FULLY loaded, i close it down again then wait a few seconds and open it back, then its fine.

Im not sure of the exact pattern of why this happens, but heres a few thing is for sure when it comes to me, if i close OBS with cmd Q (or right click quit), itll happen. If i open up OBS too quickly after shutting it, itll happen, and also if i close it too quickly after opening it'll happen.

You might find when you're troubleshooting you open it up and close it with too quick an interval, hopefully this helps.

@wicked oriole The 2 resolution fields in settings>video are an editable combo box, they allow arbitrary values to be typed. Calculate the total size of the 2 windows you need to record (e.g. 1920x1080 + 1920x1080 = 1920x2160) and type it in there, then use 2 window capture sources.

The ‘Video Capture Device” does not show up in my audio meter.

I’ve deselcted everything in preferences>General>audio, but the Video capture device does not show up there either.

I've been getting tons of lags and stutters on my Mac recently. Been trying to troubleshoot this without any success at all.

Essentially my mac is lagging/stuttering like crazy whenever I start OBS. It's like going from 165fps to 10 fps on my screen, and everything becomes completely unusable. I have been experimenting with scenes and noticed if I use a completely empty scene collection there is no lag whatsoever.

but as soon as I add some sources it will lag more, and my normal config becomes a complete unusable mess. Despite having this for a very long time before and it worked fine before.

My Mac is Mac Mini M4 Pro 14 Cores, 48GB. It's supposed to powerful and have no issues at all with this task. My 3 year old M1 Macbook can even handle it without any issues.

I have checked activity monitor to see if there is any abnormalities, but I haven't find any. OBS is barely using around 40% of cpu and only 10% GPU but my mac is still lagging like it was running 10 virtual machines simulatanesously

I previously checked the crash reports but found no entries related to OBS. The older version of OBS worked without issues, but after it started crashing today, I updated to the latest version - the problem persists. However, today's crash reports only show two processes:

you should also see a popup from the system that with a lot of text along with "OBS quit unexpectedly" which would also contain that crash report

you might try restarting your machine, and then reproducing the crash, and then seeing if a crash report appears in console

Hi! I just recently had this issue when recording yesterday. I remuxed my files to mp4 on my omen and transfer (as for the past year) to wetransfer so I can download it onto my MacBook and edit within Final Cut Pro x. I'm getting an odd behaviour that only occurs on my MacOS OBS and not on my Linux and Win 11 versions. It concerns plug-ins that provide an in-vision counter display such as the LUA Stopwatch script and the Ashmanix Countdown Timer.

The scripts do what is expected, however, although on the Preview monitor the counter animates. When selected to the Main Output, the counter is static at the time it was on when selected. In other words, it doesn't animate on Main, only on Preview.

This behaviour has persisted through several OBS updates and plug-in updates and is like this on current versions.

Any ideas ss to how to solve thiis?

When i start a macOS screen capture, it doesnt show anything, but it shows a small red square in the top left corner. When i click "fit to screen", it does nothing. Hey everyone did not know OBS Ndi was renamed and now had a discord server glad i finally found it, i got this message error when updating obs and consequently DistroAV and i uninstalled the old NDI tools and library and installed 6 just now but still giving me the error, what can i do i need this to work for tonight cause i have an event where i need to play a slideshow from obs into another obs instance via NDI so any help is greatly appreciated

also posted this on the DistroAV discord server but figured this one was more active

Please help I have a problem with the quality of the camera in the obs it looks good quality but then in the gallery it looks terrible

To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:

1. Restart OBS Studio first!
2. Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
3. Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
4. Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
5. Paste the URL into this Discord channel

That's not the issue I'm having. As I showed in the screenshot, it's not even letting me create a stream anymore (but it use to)

Yes, this is popping up. The only thing I did was update, it was working fine on 2.X but now wirth 3.X I'm getting this.

I just booted it up again to get a screenshot and ANOTHER update popped up. I'm talking about THIS. It was fine under 20.X but 30.X is giving me an issue. (when dealing with number, "X" is a varible)
