Hey all, have a crisis with OBS, I've spent the last two days, prepping for my first stream, I built a basic overlay in photoshop, things were set up, then I shut down the app to got set up in the physical studio, when I went to turn OBS back on, it wouldn't, just a crash notifier and it won't reopen no matter what I do. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, old versions, I've done so much from what I can find online, still, no matter what, it won't open, I'm on a 2012 catalina 10.15.7 and it won't load 29.0.2 or 24- just the same error/crash message, can anyone please help I'm supposed to stream in a few hours and I'm gonna have to do it direct on twitch at this point wihtout overlays.

No VDO ninja is a web browser that gives you a link so your iphone can broadcast and you attach the link in OBS like a zoom link to get the feed, CAMO may have been mixed in but I've uninstalled and kept it disconnected, nothing is in my laptop, this laptop infact

I'm having a problem getting media via OBS to play the audio over the virtual camera.

Setup:

MacOS (Sequoia 15.4)
Rodecaster pro with mic

In one scene I have a video running locally. When I start the virtual camera the poeple on the other end can hear my mic but they cannot hear the video if i play it in a scene. i've tried creating a multi-ouput device to include blackhole as well with no luck. Both mic and video are set to Monitor & Output. how do i get the videos audio to be heard over the virtual camera?

i would recommend using the current version of OBS, but creating a new profile (profile->new in the menu bar). that should turn off twitch enhanced broadcasting. you may need to reconfigure your encoder settings afterward

TEB is coming to the next OBS release for macOS, but it isn't currently supported, leading to the breakages you saw before

i couldn't say why it seems to work on that 31.0.0 beta version, but it is probably preferable to use the current release version of OBS

I want to record a call I'm doing with someone over TeamViewer. They will have access to my computer and showing me how to use some software. So I need to:

• record my screen
• record my audio
• record their audio

I've tested recording myself speaking while watching a Youtube video and it works fine except on the recording, it is too zoomed in.

A streamer friend of mine on Mac is using OBS to stream to YouTube. We just reconfigured his setup to be native 4k for YouTube with a custom profile for it, and it is set to stream HEVC 4k60 @ 40Mbps, however we've tried everything from 20-40Mbps. He has gigabit upload speed through his ISP so upload bandwidth is essentially unlimited on a non-congested network.

When attempting to connect to YouTube at anything above 20Mbps YouTube errors out with encoder error, and shows that it is trying to use 73Mbps not the configured 40Mbps. When he sets it to 20Mbps in OBS, then it streams at 40Mbps. It appears that OBS is doubling the configured bitrate on Mac at 4k, at least using the Apple HEVC codec. Log file coming...

Ok, switching from Apple hardware HEVC to Apple hardware H.264 gives the same problem, YouTube reporting a bitrate twice that which is configured and saying it is too high, OBS reporting encoder overload

Setting it to 20Mbps works on YouTube.

The view you see in your application is flipped for you only. This is because most applications expect a webcam, and they want to mimic looking in a mirror for your own preview. Everyone else sees what you see in the OBS preview.

reinstalling OBS shouldn't have deleted any of your data, but it depends what you did to uninstall and reinstall. what exact procedure did you follow to uninstall and reinstall OBS?

Yup. Twitch's allowed bitrate isn't enough for very good looking 1080p. We suggest using 1280x720 as your output resolution.

Issue: OBS Virtual Camera to Discord – Audio Not Coming Through (MacOS)

Hi there! I’m trying to use OBS Virtual Camera with Discord to share both video and audio for movies or gameplay—something I’ve gotten close to making work in the past, but I’m still struggling to get the audio to pass through reliably.

🔧 Background Setup:
• Discord version: 0.0.343 (0.0.343)
• OBS Studio: 31.0.3 64-bit
• MacBook Pro M4 Max
• macOS: 15.4.1 (24E263) (no developer beta on this machine)

🎥 What’s working:
• Video streams perfectly using OBS Virtual Camera into Discord.

🔇 What’s not working:
• Audio from OBS is not passing through into Discord when using virtual camera alone.

🎧 What I’ve tried so far:
1. Installed BlackHole 2ch for virtual audio routing.
2. Set Monitoring Device in OBS to BlackHole 2ch under:
• Settings > Audio > Advanced > Monitoring Device
3. Enabled Monitor and Output on the movie/audio source in the OBS Audio Mixer.
4. Set Input Device in Discord to BlackHole 2ch under:
• Settings > Voice & Video > Input Device
5. Checked Audio MIDI Setup on macOS to confirm routing.
6. (Optional) Created Aggregate Device combining my microphone and BlackHole for mic + audio routing in one.

💭 Additional context:
This setup did work once before when I streamed Tron: Legacy through Discord—after some careful monitoring/output setup—but I’ve since had inconsistent results and would love help confirming the right audio routing approach (especially for M-series Macs).

If anyone has a reliable method to get both video + audio into Discord using OBS virtual camera, I’d love to hear how you’ve done it!

These are my settings in Discord when streaming with the OBS virtual camera in Discord as the video. The screen will show the green ring indicating the mic is working but I can't hear anything. When I click "Let's Test" under voice setgtings, I can hear the audio.

That's normal, discord doesn't play your own audio back to you.

Is there a source you need to hear yourself that you don't, like a capture card?

That's right. I don't have a capture card but more so wanted to confirm the people in the room could hear the sound. I've tested before that even with seeing the audio mixer levels, that people couldn't hear the sound.

I guess just trust the process when seeing the green border.

hi I was running OBS 31.0.2 on Mac Mini MacOS 15.4.1 Sequoia and I had been streaming with OBS for a few years now until Saturday 5/3/25 when it just started crashing when I try to star up and it crashes in safe mode as well so I had to use streamlabs to stream which is very limited for me because I had all my plugins and bells & whistles with my OBS and streamlabs only imported some of the OBS settings...I did uninstall and reinstall which did not fix it and I did try othr versions including 31.0.3 but no joy just crashing...I am aware of the problemd with displaylink so i uninstalled it and disconnected my HUB for the multiple monitors and still only crashes I did remove the obs folder in library but it still just crashes ...does anyone have any suggestions I am hoping to not have to start over completely by uninstalling all plugins and settings completely to get this fixed...also why is it that Streamlabs run with Displaylink and OBS has issues with it?

Hi everyone! I am kind of new to OBS, but I am trying to use OBS to record for my lab. I have noticed this issue periodically, but after I tried to fix it it became much worse :/ The videos have two different angles and this is happening on both cameras. In the videos, there seems to be some sort of lag or frame duplication. When analyzing the videos frame by frame, there are several instances where the frame will "repeat" (i.e., 1,2,3,4,4,6). Because it drops a frame each time there is a duplication, the video as a whole doesn't lag, but this issue is happening every few frames. I don't think it is a webcam issue (Logitech Brio) since this issue doesn't pop up when I record through Photobooth. I am using an Apple M2 comouter and OBS and the cameras are updated. If anyone has any insight please let me know!! Thank you!!

Hello, I've been streaming on ps5 using a relatively cheap capture card that has seemed to work fine. I'm streaming on twitch using a M4 Macbook air. My viewers are telling me that my video is a bit blurry and that possibly my resolution/frames are the issue. My macbook is on wifi pulling in about 200 mbps upload speed. The ps5 is on wifi as well (due to the inability to be hardwired). I've tried searching for youtube videos to help configure the right obs settings with bitrate, resolution, etc and all that jazz, but It still seems to be slightly blurry. Could anyone help? Thanks!

You could try going to tools -> auto config wizard -> 60 or 30 FPS but prefer high quality.

YouTube videos do their best to help but each device is different in some way or form.

The base canvas resolution should be the resolution of your monitor. Just hit 'current' on the auto wizard.

Downscale is set to whatever resolution matches your current aspect ratio with a similar one and is usually the resolution your internet can stream out without issues. Lanczos is the best downscale option as far as I know.

1. In OBS, go to Settings > Audio, set Mic/Aux Audio to Focusrite USB.
2. In Advanced Audio Properties, uncheck “Mono”.

4. If stereo still doesn’t work, install OBS-ASIO plugin for true stereo input.

I have the Clearclick video to digital recorder. I'm using a camcorder to my pc. The videos are fine and when playing on the computer when recording everything is fine. But the final product the audio is "glitchy." I've removed my headphones don't have speakers, headphones were causing an echo, and stopped using the option of being able to listen while recording this helped the echo but there's still the glitchy audio. This one tape specifically, which is the most important, may not have many more rewinds and plays... (about 45 mins total) Can anyone help??? Note: I've just installed the update and haven't tried it yet.

gah this tech is infuriating. ive set up my capture card & its working great but now its affecting my camera background. i use my mac webcam & i add a background to the facetime HD, which works great on obs, but now when i click the background it applies to background to the entirety of my capture card screen, even when on my mac, background isnt selected under the capture card. it wont let me have one or the other and neither me nor google can figure out why. my only solution is to use a secondary transparent background filter but honestly it looks fucking terrible

Hi everyone, Not sure others experience this but it happens so much I decided to join this community so see what might be happening. Most of the time I cannot get the Camera Hub Prompter Voice Sync to work. Concurrently, much of the time the OBS 31.0.3 also freezes and I can't record. So I restart everything and sometimes it works like a charm but most of the time its a crap shoot. It usually requires me restarting over and over again before I get the Voice sync to engage. Do other experience this? If you used to, what did you do to get everything to work more consistently. I really hate it when tech fails and this is a huge block in my my productivity and workflow right at the moment. A few days ago I sent in the DisplayLinkSupportTool data but have not received any suggestions back yet. Thanks for any insights.

Hey I am using a MacBook Pro & my mic/aux audio monitoring is delayed in my headphones.

The signal/volume meter seems to be in real time but the monitoring is not.

I have tried offsetting the sync but that has not changed anything.

This used to not be an issue at all, but after I changed some settings that I thought would optimize my streaming it has made all audio via my microphone delayed when monitoring on top of not being present in the YouTube streams.

When I transition into scenes that have my Scarlett audio inputI get huge frame rate drops and it hangs. I isolated it down to creating scenes with single elements until I could repeat the issue consistently. The only source in the scenes this happens is the Scarlett.

The Log Analysis showed a 85% Rendering lag and a 5% Encoder Overload. But the scenes this happens have no video or graphic inputs. It's audio only.

Things I've tried:
Rolling back to previous OBS versions (went back to 30.0)
Fresh install (deleted config files and rebuilt)
Bit rate changes
Audio Encoder
Video Encorder
Rate Control
Recording format
Sample rate
Mono to Stereo
Closed down other programs

I am using a Mac computer with a system version of 15.4.1, and the OBS version I am using is 29.0.0. Currently, I am encountering an issue when using OBS to capture the screen of Tencent Meeting. I can see the option for Tencent Meeting when I select "Window Capture," but I am unable to capture the actual window content of Tencent Meeting. Putting this in here too in case someone who understands MAC better can lend some advice! I have a Mac Pro, my console is a PS5. I've been trying for the past 2 days to get my capture card, mic and headset set up with OBS so that I can record my games and streams. everything works other than I can't get my game audio to come out from my mac, let alone my headset, instead from my PS5 (no my headset is not plugged into my controller). @livid cloak Most of the time it's only a matter of connecting them and adding capture sources for them, but USB bandwidth is finite and there may not be enough. Do the cameras you're trying to use work individually?

I am playing Hitman 3 on stream (from PS5 through PS Remote) and just moved over to OBS from the other application. I am new to streaming, so I didn't know the history. When I go into Instinct Mode or there is any sound effect with a heavy bass line, it sounds like a busted amp in a trunk (albeit very briefly). Has anyone experienced this? Is there something more I can do with my sound settings? Do I need to get a capture card? I commend OBS for being way smoother than the other app and no dropped frames on playback. I need to see it live somehow, though. Thanks for this application so Mac users like me can stream to TikTok!

There seems to be an issue with the use of OBS on my macintosh

I can't seem to pinpoint what is the exact problem but it's generally multiple

For one, when I try Stop Recordings, it just says Stopping Recording . . . indefinitely

Other times, it won't show up anything I do on the screen at all

.mov, .mp4, and matrovska and fragmented all don't work either

The videos end up being 2 seconds long, 12 seconds long and etc

Making all the videos I've done absolutely vanish

I've deleted it off of my Macintosh but it's been extremely difficult to see anything good come out of OBS from my experiences thus far

I thought I had turned off the acceleration and did a test stream for about 20 mins. Seemed good. Then I streamed a full 4 hours and about 60 mins in I started to have the same issues. Hello, I just got OBS to try and set up a thing for my video that gives me a little avatar in place of my video feed.

I have most of it set up on OBS however I am struggling to get to connect and actually be my video feed.

Added details:
the friend that showed me this thing was a windows user and it worked perfectly fine
^ when i tried it didnt give me an option to use OBS as my camera

In OBS it works as intended (swapping from talking pic to non talk, or muted versions) but it just doesn’t seem to give me the option to use the video in discord despite working with discord perfectly

The issue I have is that when I try to mess with properties on any source that I've already installed, sometimes the menu pulls up and sometimes it doesn't. I’m not the greatest with words or explaining things so pls bare with me. I am desperate for help. I’ve updated and reinstalled OBS, bought new chords, screen mirroring apps etc and cannot find a solution.

I am a MOBILE streamer. I currently use an app called “Prism” that allows me to stream/screen record. I’m able to stream my mobile gameplay and then i use a seperate device to help with chat. I have been RLLY trying anything to get this same mobile screen capture (not sure what to call it) to appear in OBS but continue to fail. In OBS I’m able to use my webcam as my facecam and that appears working fine. However when I try to plug my phone in (I had first tried mirroring and could mirror the screen onto laptop but OBS wouldn’t take it) when I try to plug it in and try (not sure which ones correct but I’ve tried..) window capture, display capture,video capture device, iOS camera, and Deprecated video capture device. I also tried the OBS camera app but I don’t see an option for recording my mobile screen. I plugged in my iPhone with a usb cable and I can choose iphone14pro as a source but when it previews it shows the mobile screen capture for about 2 seconds before going back to a blank black screen. And it remains that way. I’m not sure what I’m going wrong - probably a lot of but pls pls pls im desperate to figure this out.

Again, for clarity, - I’m trying to get my MOBILE SCREEN CAPTURE/Phone screen in real time/live? to appear and work as a source in OBS on my 2016 MacBook Pro. I updated and reinstalled the program, I’ve checked permissions, I can confirm my Mac webcam works/is working as a source. Same with the Retina display? i dont think it's an OBS issue per se, I think the issue is with connecting to the RTMP server, either it refuses your connection due to a wrong stream key or because you're trying to send it something it isn't supposed to receive or that there's something between your machine and the server that is cutting the connection

if you're running on a regular-ass home ISP, it is possible they've blocked certain ports on your network

hello! I was having an issue with a specific program: T.I.T.S.
when it's selected for window capture the application lags significantly and won't actually be selected when selected for application capture
i found a small work around as it'll be visible and work fine when explorer.exe is selected for application capture
since T.I.T.S. is only natively available for windows i've been running it through crossover
i already reached out to their support but the two that have responded so far have no experience with macOS and don't know where to start

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me better understand the limitations of the M1 Pro hardware encoding with OBS, when looking to capture 2160p at 60Hz with the Elgato 4K X.

I know the elgato has its issues on Mac, but can't find a good FAQ or knowledge base doc outlining best practices with Apple's encode block.

Using the Standard settings page I get encoder overload errors with Apple VT H.264 Hardware Encoder and Apple VT HEVC Hardware Encoder, unless I lower resolution to ~1800p. I've tried CRF, ARB etc. as there's some hints these could be better, but again, I haven't found a doc to explain the problem.

In the end, I've resorted on Apple VT ProRes Hardware Encoder, but even this can seemingly be overloaded with ProRes 422 (possibly from the MX500 SSD I was capturing to running through SLC cache?) forcing me to step down to ProRes 422 LT (which is honestly fine for console gameplay capture).

I'm making do, but appreciate any info or pointers, as I've spent hours searching.

Right I’ve been racking my brain here lol, I’ve been Mac streaming for the past 2 years and never used to really save my vods and would rely on my chat to tel me if the quality is good, and most of the time they’d say it was great. Etc.

However this past month I’ve been doing an assassins creed marathon (all games played on Xbox via HD60X capture card) and when I raid, I raid into other people playing the same game and most times when I’m watching their stream their quality is crystal clear which made me want to go back and look at mine. Everything looks alright no issues. Twitch just doesn't allow enough bitrate for high detail and motion 1080p, which AC has a good amount of.

To be fair, they're using a two PC system, and a 2060, probably using nvenc. Not sure how well the Mac encoder works, but doubt it's as good.

Probably an over explained answer but yeah, do the base canvas is your canvas, if you want. Canvas meaning what you ‘create on’. It doesn’t have to match your resolution, but the bigger you put it, the more ‘room’ you have. For example if an overlay you have is 300x300 pixels it’s going to take up more room on a 1920x1080 canvas than yours, giving the illusion that it’s bigger, when it’s not). It’s just the space you’re working with.

Think of it like this, if you have a letter size piece of paper on your left, and then you had an a5 piece of paper o your right. And you put your left hand in the centre of the letter size and your right hand in the centre of the a5, providing both your hands are the same size, which hand takes up more room? The left hand, not because it’s bigger, but because it’s working with less space.

As far as I’m aware, this has nothing to do with your fps. UNTIL, you match the output with it. Side note, most viewing platforms nowadays are 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 2160p (4k). Since your canvas size is 1440p, you have the option to downscale to either 1080p and 720p. Which would 10000% help you with your fps, cause it’s dealing with less pixels. But because you’re downscaling, you’re technically keeping more quality than a native 1080p or 720p cause your original picture had more pixels. You’re just ‘making them smaller’, rather than not having them at all.

Outputting at 1440p or even 4k would require a heavy amount of bitrate, which twitch doesn’t even support anyways. YouTube may be a different story but I don’t use YouTube to stream so I can’t answer you there. So I would suggest you keep your base canvas at 1440p and experiment downscaling to 1080p and 720p and see what results you like.

Remember, most people consume twitch on their phone, the difference between 1080p and 720p on the phone isn’t that vast ESPECIALLY when it’s being downscaled.

can anyone point me to a guide for setting up OBS to share my mic audio and various screen capture audio (browser, hdmi capture card, etc) to discord or facetime? i’m running into all sorts of issues and google / chatgpt are failing me

i made a multiout with black hole that includes my headphones. set up my mac output to be that as well as the obs setting for monitoring. then i set my mac input to be black hole.

within obs i created a scene for hdmi capture and another one for browser capture. both scenes also have my mic audio. and are set to output and monitor. mic is set to not monitor because i don’t need to hear myself.

this setup works for streaming and taking videos thru obs. it does not work in discord or FaceTime. nobody can hear me speaking and i can’t hear anyone speak either but they can hear other stuff.

Finally found great settings for streaming on Mac to twitch, literally crystal clear.

EVEN when playing assassin’s creed after being told AC games don’t look great on stream (not true)

Here’s what I changed:

on the stream tab, make sure the ignore twitch recommendations is checked.

In the output tab:

8000kbps (changed from 6000 since every guide I could find told me to do 6000 max)

I run an M4 Max MacBook Pro 128gb, so I always knew my machine was MORE than capable, so it would stress me out why my stream always looked so bad in comparison to other streamers.

I've been running like this for years, and in the middle of projects this week it just started doing this. I've tried everything to fix it, nothing works. Hi guys I really hope someone can help me with audio settings:-

my wife is teaching a yoga class in person. She plays music tracks from Spotify during class, using her MacBook connected to a Bose Bluetooth speaker. She controls the volume using the buttons on her MacBook on the top right of the keyboard where f11 and f12 are. So she turns the music really quiet when she introduces a new bit of the class, and then turns it back up when they practice.
Using OBS she’s got her iPhone camera capturing video, and then I’ve got 2 audio sources - a lapel mic and I’ve selected Mac OS audio capture for the music.
My problem is that when she turns the music volume up or down using the keyboard on the Mac, the change in volume doesn’t seem to be reflected in the recording?
I also tried using the Spotify app as the audio source but that also didn’t show volume changes.
Can anyone please help?
