this was a glitch, it fixed itself sortly after
eassier is to cclose obs, replace it in tthe folder, reopen obs

i can't get to use virtual camera. help please

I cannot get my equipment to give me a signal with OBS. Does OBS have anyone I could speak with about this for a moment?
can you take a screenshot of the error message you are seeing?
hello, can someone help me with transition, I would like to get some help... I can come vc
are you on macos?
ye
then describe your issue
when I do a transition between 2 sources, I want the 1st source that went on the spectators screen to come back without stopping and transitioning with the second one and vice versa
so, like constantly loop between two scenes?
yes, just when I click on the transition button. And without the media stopping
!advss
Adv-ss can likely do that
You can use powerful macros in OBS Studio using timers, cursor detection, window detection, and more to automate switching between scenes, toggle sources, and many other options.
To get started, install the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin and see the GitHub project wiki to learn how to use it.

Alright I know this is somewhat of a non-OBS question and I assume the answer is no but -- Are there any apps out there that just let me record multiple cameras without the need to place/arrange them on a canvas?
Seems to have spotty reviews - are there any apps that do this by default? I know at least Descript will record the video & mac screen in separate files.
It can be a bit crashy for some users, but honestly that's true for almost any plugins. And of course folks can set it up in a way that makes things perform badly
If you really want recommendations for totally separate programs, ask in #tech-talk , not an OBS support channel
But frankly, I think most will be harder on system resources than the plugin
Ah gotcha ty
Hello I just landed here , I am on mac and I cannot get my iphone to connect to obs i have a iphone 16 pro
so i can use this to record screen and live stream and record live stream edit it and post
does anyone use vdo.ninja to invite people
Hey Folks,
New here, and was wondering if anyone has any idea on how to connect My andorid phone (Oneplus Open) back camera on OBS. I don't mind it being wired or Wireless. Also, I am on my Macbook Apple Silicone. Thanks! 😄
Hey, i cant set my OBS to use the Hardware encoder. I have a MacBook Pro 2019 with a Vega 8. Any idea why that could be? The option just isnt there
I can recommend Droidcam
Hey, I had obs working fine for my live guitar and it’s not working anymore. Complex setup with all the mixers, I’m totally lost now. Back to getting a raw signal along with the Logic Pro daw signal when I playback my obs recording! It’s like I’ve gone back in time to the issues I had years ago.
I only want my daw signal, not the raw with it.
Worked for years basically, but I switched something somehow.
Last four days kind of driving myself insane trying to figure it out. I’m about at my last days if I can’t figure this out
My OBS keeps quitting unexpectedly and idk what to do
A macOS crash report is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash report:
- Open Console.app (Located in
/Applications/Utilities). - Navigate to the Crash Reports view along the left sidebar, then sort the table by date to find the most recent crash with the OBS process name.
- Drag and drop the selected crash onto the Discord window to upload the file, or copy-and-paste the report text here.
can you follow the instructions above your post?
Question I have a friend who has OBS running but the OBS program is not running from the Applications folder, if he moves the file into the application folder, will this reset the OBS settings and his connection info, or will he ahve to reset it up completely?
❤️ 💯
The settings will stay, they are not related to where the OBS app is located.
great, thank you
"I have a problem: OBS doesn't record audio. I can see everything working in the audio mixer, but there's no sound in the recording. I haven't changed any settings — it just stopped working by itself. Maybe it happened after an update."
To enable "Pause Recordings", do the following:
- In Settings -> Output, make sure "Recording quality" is not set to "Same as stream". If you are using advanced output, make sure that the encoder is not set to "(Use stream encoder)".
- If you want, set a Pause hotkey in Settings -> Hotkeys
- Start Recording. While recording, you should see a ⏸ icon next to the Stop Recording button.
Hello, I need help putting my phone camera (iPhone 16) in vertical mode on my stream which is already in vertical mode. (I use Macbook Pro M2)
@plucky zenith @forest axle .. it happened again 🙄
idk what could be going wrong, i have the version u gave me, but its doing the same thing as the old 1, i think the 0.3 version, im using the same computer, the version u gave me, but its just not working,
ig since they arent on, any other mod / helper on who can possibly send me a different version of obs or help me?
we suggested using 31.0.2. that crash is from 31.0.3
but, i used the 31.0.2 version?????
i deleted the old one!
how......
wait, i think obs it updating automatically, is there a way to disable that if its a thing?
imma download the version u linked, and try again, but i swear i used the version u linked last time, since i had penwywern help me fix my addons and stuff
also @forest axle, im having issues with graphics on my streams, is there a way to fix this?
the quality wont go more than 480p
ok yam, ik the issue, whenever i close out of obs, / refresh it, it will run into the same crash for 31.0.3,
i was gonna stream but it was buggy, so i closed out of OBS and tryed to reopen it, and it did the same thing it did for 31.0.3, even tho i have the 31.0.2 version
do u think u can help me now?
OBS will not automatically update itself without you updating it. if you just use 31.0.2 and do not update it, you will not run into that crash
I haven't used OBS for awhile. Having issues with placement of video sources. In trying to set up these sources, I've been deleting some sources. Unfortately OBS crashes each time I delete a source.
can you post a crash report?

I tried to send a crash report - got a message to use Discord Nitro? I got the same crash with v31.0.3 from github. I'll look for Discord nitro
you should not need discord nitro
that is weird
did you just drag and drop the file from console.app?
Yes, using the Discord app. It looked the log was transferred, drag and drop but didn't show up in the browser version or in the app that I restarted.
Tried again. Shows -188917 in red and then the Send longer messages alert
doing this does not work?
Thanks for the movie 😉
if you update your stream deck software, that will resolve the crash
Thanks, I was using a stream desk but stopped a few months ago. It was really doing much for me. I thought I had deleted the Stream Deck software. Thanks
i watched some video or tutorial and i could record on 1080 60 fps
Thanks yam. Finding (/Library/egato/StreamDesk) , deleting and restart fixed the crash. Elgato wasn't very helpful with the uninstall
Now I need to explore the OBS documentation. I seem to have all my video imput off screen,,,
When the prisual camera is turned on, with the OBS studio open, I can nolonger see any live video.
Please help
the issue is, when i try to put it above the 480 stuff, the stream fps decreases rapidly and most of the times, the stream isnt really worth trying to record because its so laggy
yo @forest axle , so, i downloaded the version 31.0.2, and i was going to stream today, but obs lagged / froze, so i force quited out of the app, but when it gives me the screen asking if i wanna go into safe mode or normal mod, the app doesnt open no matter what, it also seems like when i have to close it, it closes but also updates, since the crash log it gave me said it was from version 31.0.3, so theres our / my issue with obs at the moment
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to start a podcast with two microphones. I have an audio mixer that I plug the microphones in. I think I’m not adding the right filters in obs bc there’s a slight static noise or sometimes the voice sounds like it’s echoing in a tin. Can anyone let me know what filters and settings I need to set up in obs to make both microphones sound crisp? Thank you in advance
You can fine-tune your video and audio sources using filters. To access Filters, you can either:
- click on the Filters button on the source toolbar
OR - right click on your source (or click the Gear icon next to an audio source) and select Filters
See the Filters Guide for more information on what filters are available and how they work.
Can someone please let me know what filters I need
I’m also plugging my Sony camera into obs and do not want the sound from the camera just the microphones
Hey I am trying to record Roblox with OBS Studio but the camera is all different than windows, has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it? It is like zoomed in and the camera in't right.
Due to a change in the way Roblox works, OBS Studio's Game Capture source is unable to capture it. As a workaround, please use Window Capture instead:
- add a new Window Capture source
- select Roblox from the window list
- change the Capture Method to "Windows 10"
On Windows 10, you will see a yellow border around the game which cannot be disabled. This is not visible in your stream and can be ignored (use the `!yellow` command for more info).

your source is larger than your canvas here. i'd recommend looking at the basics of sources and scenes to understand how OBS's canvas works

@fading hare
streaming depends pn your wifi, go to ookla’s wifi speed test and tell me your speed
Speed tests mean very little with regards to streaming and your choice of bitrate. They measure your raw upload speed to a server that's near you (likely run by your local ISP), instead of your stable upload speed to a streaming server. Your stable speed will determine the bitrate you can comfortably stream at.
The stable speed can be estimated as roughly 70-75% of the speed test result in a lot of cases, however this is by no means a perfect estimate. In reality, it may end up being much worse if there's problems between your ISP and the streaming service.

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with the recent update that I didn't have before. Now, when I go live or record a video, my audio is choppy. In fact, I reinstalled OBS, and after updating it, I can't open the app anymore. I always get an error message and can't launch OBS, regardless of whether I choose to start in safe or normal mode.
Hey guys, this is a similar problem as it was discussed previously. My audio meter isn't moving when I plug in my mics or even from the my Macbook Pro regardless how I change the settings. I'm running a Macbook Pro M1 Pro with OBS 31.0.2. I've tried uninstall and instal older version but the problem continues
I'm running a video feed from a camera through a capture card and using Shure mic as my audio. has anyone solve this problem yet?
To record framerates higher than 60fps, you will need very powerful hardware (SSD, high-end GPU, significant CPU overhead, fast RAM) in order to accomplish it. There are no simple instructions that will make it work. It is recommended that you stay at or under 120fps when using OBS, and we may be unable to provide support for higher framerates if your hardware cannot handle it. Be prepared for hours of trial and error on your own.
I made a recording and uploaded the video to another platform due to my wifi being too weak to stream right now. However, upon viewing the upload on my channel, it appeared small. Is there a setting I need to change to remedy this? Can anyone help? I have tried so many changes
does anyone why i cannot build latest OBS downloaded today using the wiki quidline on my Macbook m4 pro ?
should i open a problem ticket ?
with what version of Xcode are you building?
figured this out; it is an issue specific to xcode 16.3
the fix is to replace sc->capture_type with sc->audio_capture_type
thank you this fixed the issue and it build .
why is obs for macos so dogshit
ive tried everything and the quality is still shitty
and the fps of it is SO LOW even though it shouldnt be
are there any other softwares like these to stream with
because i dont think its possible for OBS to work for me here

- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File

!macrecording Your recording settings are making it look terrible and perform badly. Use the ones below.
For high-quality, no fuss recordings on macOS:
Apple Silicon Macs: use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:
- In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
- In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
- Set your Video Encoder to "Hardware, H.264" (more compatible) or "Hardware, HEVC" (smaller file size).
Intel Macs: use these recommended recording settings. Note: you only use these settings for recording, not streaming.

If you want any more help, I would suggest you ask a lot more kindly.
does anyone know why obs stutters after a while in the full screen projector 😄 this is driving me insane . i tried everything . what works is to close the fullscreen projector and reopen it every 30 mins
thx this helped a lot
You're welcome! Glad I could help out.
I searched and didn't find anything recent so I'm here to ask about adding a Browser source. Each time a try, OBS crashes. I'm running the current OS on an older, Intel iMac. Is this a bug? Any suggestions?

Here you go. I was able to add the MacOS Screen Capture source so I'm not stuck.
that is not an OBS crash. if you see one labeled OBS in the console window, that is the one you want to drag over
New to this. Thx for the tip.

Does your issue happen with the MacOS Screen Capture source?
Embarrassingly, I am not sure. here is a screen shot, not the black area is remaining screen area not being filled by my recording. It looks like it recorded the OBS recording, but not the entire screen (but in full screen mode). let me rephrase that, lol...here is what I mean, let me include the screen shot from recording to the social media platform
Just to make sure it isn't the social media platform adding the extra black space, open your video on your PC and then make the media player run fullscreen.
Do the black areas appear then?
And by PC i do mean Mac. I just say it all the time automatically LOL
Here is the Full screen.. I have uploaded videos previously and there was not an issue, but I did use Quicktime screen record. This is the first upload using using OBS Recording
LOL totally understood..
This is the video in full screen mode
its like the size of OBS, meaning the blue area and little ol me in it
Okay, so now in OBS, select the Source named MacOS Screen Capture by clicking it, and screenshot the whole OBS Window for me
It shows builit in retina display: 2560x1440 @0.0 in the properties area
okee doke
Is this what you meant?
Btw, thank you all so so much for the help... my followers on my media account and complaining at me.. so I may re-record if we can figure this out
Yup. Do Command+F to fit the screen capture to the canvas.
Then change this thing I circled to Scale to Window so you will see the whole canvas
You're most welcome!
There we go haha
Lol... it looks odd... I did as you suggested too.. sigh,,
where that dropdown says "canvas (1920x1080)", click it and instead select "scale to window"
ok..
that's now showing the entire canvas, and your source within it; everything looks fine
you can enlarge the OBS window itself if you want the canvas to be a bit bigger as well
Everything should look fine in a recording now. Nice work.
Wow, do I feel like a nincompoop... Thank you!!!!!!! Truly!!! I feel badly about my earlier grumble.... I do apologize.
Thank you for all your patience and help.. truly
So glad we could help! And you are not a nincompoop. This stuff gets complicated, we were all figuring it out once.
Thank you Yam,,, you both are a gem of happiness
don't worry about it. frustration is understandable, people in the support channels are just volunteering their own free time, which can lead to gaps in people actually receiving help unfortunately. your patience and kindness is appreciated likewise!
Now I really feel bad...
I thank all of you for volunteering your time to help us out. Finding good volunteers seems to be more and more difficult, but do know I am so grateful you all do.. I will close this in saying that what you all do, even as insignificant as in this particular case, has great significance for us as end users, especially in these upside down times. I wish you all a great week/end, and thank you once more.
ha, really no worries! but thank you for the kind words and happy to help; and you take care as well
When using OBS to record 4k60fps on Mac, it prompts encoding overload. How can I solve this problem? Or is it because macOS is not optimized enough?
I did not encounter this problem when using the system recording function and other recording software (4k60fps)
No matter how low the bit rate is, it can't solve the problem

the base m4 might not support 4k60 HEVC. you might try the CRF rate control mode instead of CBR
I did not encounter this problem when using the system recording function and other recording software (4k60fps)
I have also tried adjusting various bitrate control options, but it still doesn't work.
could you restart OBS, then create another log using the CRF rate control mode?
I checked the logs and found that Mac obs is implemented through metal➡️opengl, so it may be caused by the lack of native adaptation of metal?

do you have any other video encoder processes running on the system in the background like a screen recorder?

what other software are you saying produces smooth 4k60 recordings?
all
no obs
System-provided recording,screen flow,ishot...
i personally can't get the built-in screen recording tool to produce a smooth recording at 60fps on a max chip myself; but in any case, you might need to use a software encoder in OBS
"For the record, we do use the new ScreenCaptureKit mentioned for our "macOS Screen Capture" Source.
That said, what you're trying to do sounds like it does not involve Screen Capture Kit at all. You're not trying to capture a display. You're trying to create a projector window on a display that does not physically exist.
We do still use OpenGL, because a rewrite using Metal has not yet been done, and OpenGL still largely works for now. Please follow-up on the BetterDisplay author's question about a Sidecar display."
The above is the original words of the developer
It seems that since 2019, the rewrite of Metal has not been going smoothly.
this issue has nothing whatsoever to do with metal and openGL

Hi! If OBS does an update, would a current livestream get interrupted because of the update?
OBS doesn't update without permission, so just don't do that while live. It may not even let you, not certain.
thank you!!@molten grotto
YW!
does anyone know why the video obs outputs when i stop recording goes at around 2 fps, it used to work pretty fine but now it only runs at 2 fps
I plan on doing a livestream that is 24/7 for 4 months. The stream will consist of playlists running one after the other. After playing around with OBS, I see that you cannot alter a playlist without the stream getting interrupted or going back to the first video. Is it possible to have different scenes with a playlist in each, and those playlists play one after the other without me manually adding it to the program? Please advise.

Yes, I am trying to use the Game Capture HD60 S+
@hybrid matrix I don't know much about macos, I don't think I can solve this. Try asking again later, and/or try asking on the obsproject.com forums.
can you show the source properties for your capture card?
either 1. updating macOS, or 2. downgrading to OBS 31.0.2 will solve this crash
how can I show the source properties?
sorry i mean the source properties window; the window that comes up when you double click your capture card source
are you able to set the input format to something besides "unknown"?
and if so, can you then pick an fps?
you'll want to pick the first, NV12 one
and then on doing that, does the FPS field populate?
it's hard to know exactly; sometimes other programs can set the card to an invalid configuration, and it has to be reset
sometimes OBS can do this inadvertently as well
there are changes in the next version of OBS that should make it occur less often, and make configuration of capture cards easier in general
I see, thank you so much!! I genuinely appreciate all of your help
Need help. My gameplay is not laggy and neither is my camera but on Obs today EVERYTHING is lagging. To the point where it’s unwatchable. AOM AV1 is a very demanding software encoder. you can probably resolve your overload by picking a different encoder, or a hardware encoder
if you're just recording, the HEVC hardware encoder is probably a good choice. either hardware encoder would be fine; you probably do not need to worry about the software encoders
is there anyway I can both chat on my headset on ps4 and put audio onto obs at the same time for streaming. Also I have a capture card but obs isn't reading it for output only
im trying to record system audio using obs, but there just isnt any option for system/desktop audio
ive given obs all the permissions i think it should need
all the information im finding online is either about olders versions of macos and obs where you need a second program, and everything im finding about new obs and macos versions just says that it should work without hassle
OBS Studio 30+ running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Audio Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS and/or OBS Studio, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
im pretty sure the issue is that obs itself has zero access to system audio
ive tried macos screen capture and macos audio capture
I cannot get display capture to work. no options to select a window or application present in the dropdown box
- 43.9% Rendering Lag

those arent really related to obs not being able to access system audio
you seem to have one macOS screen capture source; what is that capturing?
a full screen application, a game specifically if that helps
so you're getting video, but not audio?
if you're using application or window capture, then audio should be included in the macOS screen capture source, but only for the program being captured
if it's the display capture mode of macOS screen capture, that should include audio from the entire desktop
im using application capture
yeah
because desktop audio is disabled in audio settings, because the only option is "disabled", theres no default no nothing
those device listings are a bit of a red herring on macOS unfortunately; you are not meant to use them on macOS to capture audio
the way to do it is via a macOS screen capture or macOS audio capture source
oh, well yeah then im even more clueless
if you add a macOS audio capture source and select the desktop capture mode, you should get audio from the entire system without any issues
be aware that if you also have a macOS screen capture source for your application, that source will be capturing audio from that program. so you may want to mute your macOS screen capture source in the audio mixer, or you will end up with doubled audio
any way to make it capture the audio from just one application?
there doesn't seem to be a "show fullscreen and hidden applications" option like for screen capture
you may need to make the application visible before you first select it (in the "application capture" mode of macOS audio capture, if that wasn't apparent, sorry)
after that, you should be able to fullscreen it and audio will still be captured
that's a macOS limitation that we can't do anything about unfortunately
doesnt seem to pick up any audio then
game called celeste
hmm, that's quite odd
so it captures audio when the application is visible on your main desktop?
but the audio stops capturing if you fullscreen the application?
other way around
it can capture desktop capture
but nothing with application capture, no matter what
ok sorry, so it's specific to application audio capture
does application audio capture work with other programs?
lemme try rq
it does
weird, so it's specific to celeste
maybe some stuff like outputting audio through a separate process or smth?
this is unrelated also, but are you using game mode when you recorded this log? if you're recording with OBS, you should make sure game mode is off
and yeah, some programs do strange audio routing that evades capture, i haven't ever looked at exactly what causes it
i forgot that that exists
unfortunately i think the only resolution is to rely on desktop audio capture here. or if celeste allows you control what device it outputs audio to, you could output to a virtual audio device and use that in OBS
you could report it to the celeste developers as an issue as well
turning off game mode fixed some framerate issues so thanks
I have installed obs to use my PTZ OPTICS camera but the source name under the NDI Source will not show the camera in the drop down. How do I get my ndi signal into obs?
Install NDI tools and see if it appears there
Your PTZ optics camera needs to be plugged into the same network as your mac
Hey Everyone, I asked this about a month ago, but didn't get any help. I wanted to kick it back to the top to see if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you!
Hey Everyone, I'm having an issue with OBS bringing in my video so that I can then record. I'm trying to capture gameplay from my PS5, using OBS on an M1 Max Macbook Pro, and an Elgato 4KX. About 60% of the time I will get everything hooked up, turn on the console, select the right HDMI input, turn on OBS, and things will work as expected. The other times I will get to the step of opening OBS and find that my video is not being brought in. My current way of handling this is to turn things off and start the process again. Sometimes I go through 1 round of this and things work again other times I go through 5-6 rounds with no success. Is there anything I should do to ensure my video showing up more consistently? Thank you!
i also need help, when i first installed obs and made a window capture screen, i got this window. but i wanted the second one here (the pic is from a tutorial video and the person who made the tutorial just downloaded obs, made a profile, then a scene, then made a window capture screen and i did the same), plus i downloaded the most recent version of obs, what do i do?
At least one of those two pictures is from Windows OS
okay, i thought it would work with mac too?
i mean, i thought mac obs would have these things as well
ok, i know the second one is from windows, like i said it's from a tutorial video. but i believed that if i chose any program in the window section it would have the extra stuff.
The tutorial being on Win and you on Mac means it's not the right tutorial for you, is all.
Different available options.
I believe MacOS screen capture is the modern way you will want to use, and it lets you choose a specific program to capture instead of the whole screen as well.
sorry i meant window capture, that's what the tutorial guy and i picked
hello everyone, i hope your day is going wel so far, my screen recording looks good fps wise, but when i stream on twitch and look at the stream through my phone, it looks very laggy, im on a macbook air

you're trying to stream at 4k60 using a base m1, which is pushing it in terms of the machine's capabilities. i would recommend adjusting your stream to 1080p, and streaming with a hardware encoder rather than the x264 software encoder
how do i adjust stream quality, my biterate is only like 6k
i thought that was 1080
under settings->video, you should probably change both your canvas and output resolutions to 1920x1080
Hello everyone. I am trying to record gameplay from my PS5 through my MacBook Pro 2018 using an elgato 4KX. I have tweaked just about every setting I can think of to make it record at a decent frame rate and resolution. However, every time I record it is either horribly laggy or obs gets stuck on “stopping recording” and then corrupts the recording. Can anyone give me a layout of the best settings or any other strategies to make it work? I just want to be able to have a decent gameplay recording with facecam and audio and have it not lag every couple of minutes or drop to like 10 fps. I can provide any specs that I can if needed. I’m pretty new to this obs thing and just need some help from more experienced people. Thanks in advance for any help or comments!
what resolution and fps are you streaming at, and what encoder are you using? for your machine to be able to handle encoding and recording consistently without issues, you might need something pretty conservative like 1080p or even 720p
Hello I’m trying to stream through obs from my Xbox and on obs the capture card device is blinking in and out and I’m not sure what I need to do pls help!
this might indicate a poor connection between your capture card and the computer. what capture card is it and what cable are you using to connect it? you will want to make sure that the cable being used explicitly supports USB 3.0 and a transfer speed of at least 5 gbps
Thanks for getting back to me. I have been using 1080p and 60fps but it usually ends up dropping down to like 30-40 fps with occasional spikes even lower. As for my encoder I’ve been using the Apple HVEC hardware encoder. The TV that I am using to actually game on and pull from is 2160p. I’m pretty new to this so I tried to set that as the display resolution and output it at 1080p but I may have set it up incorrectly or overthought it
Also I have been exclusively recording gameplay, facecam and mic audio. No streaming as of now

To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
if you can reproduce the issues in a clean log we might be able to point out potential spots for improvement
im using xr1 lite and i am using a adapter plug in with usb 3.0
Okay awesome. When I am home from work this evening I will get that log. Thanks!
are you sure that every cable and adapter in the chain also supports USB 3?
you can also check the status of the connection by opening "System Information.app" (located in /Applications/Utilities) and scrolling to the "USB" section
then locating your capture device
Is that on obs or my computer
your computer
indeed, thanks
looks like the connection appears to be technically ok, but it also looks like it's connected through a hub, which might cause problems
i would recommend connecting the device directly to your machine and seeing if that resolves the issue
On my MacBook, I don’t have a USB plug-in, which is why I’m using an adapter and the capture car device has to be plugged into a USB port which like I said, my MacBook is plugged in with only a USB-C
Any suggestions you may have
what is the "adapter"? is it a hub? can you tell me exactly how the card is connected
Yeah one sec
USB C Hub Adapter for MacBook Pro... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CRB67L35?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
yeah, this is likely your issue
the hub is cheap and doesn't actually specify the connection spec between the hub and your machine, which points to it being a likely source of issues. you will likely need to either get a hub that is actually explicitly specced for what you are doing, or acquire a USB 3 cable that will allow you to directly connect the card to your machine
Okay sounds good thank you! It’s just weird that it stopped all of a sudden because I was using it for about two or three months
i can't rule out that it's an issue with the capture card itself, but this just seems like the most likely culprit from the vantage point i have
I got you thank u!
Good evening everyone. I have an issue I am hoping someone might be able to help me with.
I recently puchased a new mac, and my video recordings with OBS, using Elgato HD60X results in what looks to be dropped frames every so many seconds.
It is not consistent, as it can happen several times in 5 sceonds, then not at all for the following 30 seconds.
I have tried changing many settings, but so far, to no avail.
I have seen other uses having the same issues on places like Reddit, but so far only one solution posted which did not work for me.
Machine: Mac Studio M4 Max
Camera: Sony ZV1
Camera connected by Micro HDMI to USB-A cable plugged into Elgato HD60X
HD60X plugged into Mac Studio with USB-A to USB-C cable.
OBS version is 31.0.3
Elgato HD60X is on latest firmware: 23.04.26

So that's all it is? My Elgato product is not compatible with my mac?
you might experience better frame pacing with the "capture card device" source rather than the "video capture device" source
i think there is also some option that elgato exposes in their software that mac users have said in the past leads to fewer dropped frames, but i don't have an elgato device and don't recall the exact details
Thank you for replying yam.
I was trying to understand what you meant, but I get it now.
I'll change it in OBS and give it a try
I don't get any video coming through when I use "capture card device" unfortunately.
I tried using an Elgato Neo webcam, directly connected to mac via USB-C.
Same thing. So that takes the HD60X out of the equation.
I know there is an alternative capture software that Elgato have that does what you say above; but it is Windows Only.
4k capture utility it's called.
But their own streamlabs software makes the problem far worse than OBS does (plus I prefer OBS.
Suffice to say, it seems it is not an OBS problem.
So thanks yam. Have a good evening.
I shall ponder how my uber expensive equipment is not working correctly and pray I haven't wasted my money 😉
this shouldn't be the case; it might take some fiddling with the parameters in the source properties but it should work
and yes, this software may be windows only unfortunately. i think in the past someone might have even launched the program in wine or a windows VM to change the property on the card
what do the different rate limit options in the output settings do?
CBR is constant bitrate, which is typically required for streaming. VBR also targets a bitrate, but it's allowed to fluctuate for better quality. CRF just targets a quality metric without a specific bitrate (where 0 is low quality and 100 is 'lossless')
what should i use for minecraft recording?
if your priority is recording quality, then CRF is probably a good choice
what quality would you recommend for minecraft?
it doesnt have to be lossless or very high quality because well its minecraft
i would recommend testing some different values and seeing which one is a good balance of quality and file size for you personally
what would be a good starting value for medium-high quality?
60 or so? it's really subjective though; i would definitely recommend just trying some values out
you can also just use the simple mode presets if you don't want to worry about adjusting the values yourself
!local
For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:
- In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
- In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
- Set your Video Encoder to a hardware encoder, if available
thanks for the help
i think i will just adjust the values and not use the simple settings mode so i can find the perfect settings
hii im trying to get my switch screen to show, I have the capture thing and everything but it shows up as a black screen. the capture thing says its compatible with what I have idk what im doing wrong

Okay definitely seems to have some issues haha
Thank you. I’ll check it out.
i would try other encoders like the h264 hardware encoder if you have one, or even x264, and see if you have any better results with those. make sure game mode is off. make sure any other intensive applications aren't open. if all that fails, probably will have to lower your settings to something like 1080p30 or 720p60
It seemed to make it worse honestly. If I change the resolution, where is the correct place to do so? The video tab or output? Or both?
That seemed to help a lot with the lagging and letting me save it. The picture quality took a big hit though. Is that just something that’ll have to be sacrificed a little to help it run?
from what i can tell, yes. the intel macbook pros are fairly limited in terms of how well they can encode live while doing other things
might still be worth trying different encoders to see if you can tell which one is less resource-intensive (usually it'll be a hardware encoder, but not guaranteed) and adjusting from there
hhhh ive tried everything theres barely any tuts and none work idk wht to do
hey, any reason why my hotkeys for saving a replay may not work?
i set all the permissons and settings correctly
anyone ):
Okay, gotcha. I will keep playing around with it. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it!
How do I fix this issue?
I was running v30.2.3. Tried updating to latest: 31.0.2.
Tried my Elgato HD60S+, a generic HDMI capture card, and even my webcam. None of them work. Tried multiple macs. Both macs are on macOS 15.4, both are M1 machines.
Both capture cards work flawlessly in Meld, Zoom, and other applications.
The core issue is no video. But I suspect the red text has something to do with it.
what other options do you have under "input format"?
That's an old screenshot from 30.2.3, I've updated to 31.0.2 now and Input format isn't red anymore, but it also does nothing if I click on it.
Wait, I think I managed to get it to work. If I select any of the input formats, then the Frame rate is populated and I can pick it to make it work.
yes; that is the expected workflow
there are changes that will make this process easier in the future
How do I fix this now? 😛
Unplugging the capture card and plugging it in again didn't help. Same thing with the HDMI. Also restarted OBS and also didn't work.
Elgato HD60S+
I tried my generic amazon HDMI "capture" card and it's fine. But the Elgato one is having a party
but the amazon one doesn't have pass-through, only input. As opposed to the "real" capture card from Elgato
tried swapping back to the elgato again. Seems fine for now 🤷♂️

are you trying to stream using the h264 software encoder?
oh wait, i see the issue; you're likely using the h264 hardware encoder, but your canvas is too large
the h264 hardware encoder supports a maximum of 4,000 in either dimension
if you want to use h264, you will need a smaller output resolution. if you need the 5120x2880 output resolution, you can use the HEVC encoder (if it does not overload)
Which one is better?
i put a hotkey and i put on replay buffer but it wont work

Hello ... question can i run 2 OBS apps on my mac and run 2 diffrent capture cards at the same time and look at them at the same time?
no
(as far as I know)
ok thank you
you can however have both capture cards in the same instance of obs
and use projhectors to watch them if you need
just, running two instances won't work well
my work computer is locked down so i run it though my mac into my AVP but i need to run 2 of them to have a 2 screen setup but i only can run 1 OBS so i use another app but i don't like the way it performs ... crazy setup i know lol
why do you need 2 instances of obs
so in one virturl monitor i can have one capture card looking at one screen... and if i can bring up another obs with a difrent capture card i can see that in another virture monitor full screen ... 2 monior set up virtual tho
you don't need 2 obs for that
use projectors
so can you explain how to use projectors ? a newbie OBS user sorry
right click the source you want to show > windowed projector
(or fullscreen projector, if you want on fullscreen)
ok will try that now thanks
hello hello
I am wondering if someone has advice here regarding turning my obs screen recording into pro res proxies so i can edit them in premiere pro seamlessly smooth.
I just tried it via adobe media encoder and then also shutter encoder but the proxie file comes out WAY bigger than the original which clearly isnt right

genius !!!! thank you it worked .... now i just have to play around with the scale .. but it worked thanks again
can someone tell me how to clip stuff on imac?
what do you mean exactly by "clip stuff"
like how do i use my computer and i can press something thatll save a video clip that
with a hotkey
The replay buffer is a feature that allows you to keep a rolling buffer of OBS' output for a set amount of time (known as "flashback recording"), which can be saved to disk as a recorded video when a hotkey is pressed. You can enable it via Settings -> Output.
Hi! I am new to OBS and having major problems. It was working fine and then my computer needed to get serviced. Totally new logic board. So I had to reinstall OBS. When I did, OBS started to do something weird. Anytime I close the program, it tells me that the program crashed and prompts me to send a crash report. I have tried to delete obs and reinstall many times, but it never seems to completely uninstall and the problem persists. I decided to just live with this because everything else was working ok. But recently other problems started arising. My audio and visual are not synced, even though when I stream directly through youtube there is no lag between audio and visual. I tried deleting and re-setting up the audio and video inputs, but no matter what I try they stopped working. At one point, OBS stopped allowing me to even add audio and video inputs, but it seems like I fixed that. Anyway, OBS is constantly giving me problems, but I've read its the best. If anyone give me any advice it would be much appreciated. I know that was a lot, but as I said I am new to OBS and not sure what information would be relevant or not
what exactly didn't work?
im not sure what im doing honestly i just followed a youtube tutorial but everytime i press the Hotkey it doesnt save the clip ( unless it does and i just cant find it )
if you press the save button in the obs program, does it save it?
i dont know
does it say like "saved" or something like tht
OBS Studio recordings can be found by selecting File > Show Recordings. The output path can be changed under Settings > Output.
it worked thank u soo much!
but i have a question is there anyway of doing it without recording? because say if i wanted. to keep the recording on for a few hours, it could take up all my space so i could delete it but it there a way to make sure that recordings dont save?
yes
like, just don't start the recording

sorry one more question, ive got my mic on but i can hear myself i dont know how to stop hearing myself
!am Set the mic to "monitor off"
To hear your audio sources through your own speakers/headset:
1. In OBS Settings → Audio, set your Monitoring Device to the speakers/headset through which you wish to hear the source audio, then click OK
2. Click the Edit menu → Advanced Audio Properties
3. For each device you wish to hear, change Audio Monitoring to:
- Monitor Off: only hear in your stream/recording
- Monitor and Output: hear through your device and your stream/recording
- Monitor Only: only hear through your device; don't hear in your stream/recording
Note: ensure you use a different monitoring device than any device you capture. Otherwise, your stream/recording will contain an echo.
Thank youu
Anytime!

for now, prores is only compatible with ordinary .mp4s and .movs. are you sure you need prores? there usually is not much purpose in converting something lossy like H264 or HEVC to prores after the fact
it seems to have worked thank u !!
They are hoping to streamline their editing workflow since they expect to spend a lot of time with this material in an editor. And performance in the editor was a concern. (I hope this is paraphrasing accurately.)
do you mean like no point transcoding a screen recording?
maybe itll be fine
it probably makes more sense to directly record with .mov with prores, rather than transcode to prores after the fact
and sorry, i misspoke before; prores is supported with the .mov container only, not .mp4
Opening OBS now "freezes" my computer. A bit of research led me to https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-wont-start-in-normal-or-safe-mode-after-accidentally-selecting-virtual-camera-in-settings-getting-segmentation-violation.175035/ I can confirm deleting the "basic" folder in Application Support>obs-studio does fix the issue. Why is this issue happening? This does not seem to be an issue of virtual camera as once that scene is deleted, the issue persists. Is this a bug? How can I keep my scenes and settings from the data in "basic" while not freezing OBS and my computer?
I have narrowed it down to 2 scene collections that cause a freeze.
in a blank "basic" file adding a MacOS Screen Capture causes an imediate freeze. I am currently assuming this is the main cause of issues as both scene collections in previous files had screen captures active as well.
OBS 31.0.2 on Apple M1 Max Sequoia 15.3.2. I have been using this version of OBS for a month without issues. Not sure the change.

my logs only seem to go back till when I started testing this morning. would it be best to start a file with the issue and then upload that log file?
yeah only the last ten logs are stored by default.

Thats what I'm thinking too. There is a new update 15.4 which I will be doing tomorrow. Other than that (which on its own, might very well be the issue), I am not sure what changes would be occurring.

Hi. Question.
For multi streaming on Mac
If I'm not looking for any additional futures like chat, vertical feed and so on.( Just simply multi stream the same feed and audio). Using custom RTPM( not streaming on YouTube, twitch,...)
What is your recommendation plug-in for best performance?
Thank you. I used that in the past but I came across aitum and SE. Wasn't sure if they have better performance or mainly used for their futures. I'm just looking for the most efficient that my laptop can handle.
@primal lava Performance-wise they're not much different, sorayuki's plugin has been around the longest and had no major issues; aitum's plugin is newer, also no major issues. The se.live plugin has a long history of major issues.
Noted. Appreciate your advice. ❤️
Hey all, in a desperate situation that i need help with, i dont know if anyone here has experience running tiktok live shopping streams although we are trying to connect our camera to obs via a capture card and an adapter, then to a Macbook Pro M4, and the image looks good in obs, although when we bring it into TikTok Live Manager, it crops it right in and we can only see the focus square on the camera. Ill provide photos below of what weve got right now.
can you be more specific about what is happening? is OBS crashing, as in the forum post you linked, or what is actually happening?
OBS does not crash. My screen basically acts like I’m running a super powerful video game and it can only render eight or nine frames per second. The mouse cursor becomes slow to move, and when trying to select anything on the screen, whether OBS or other application or desktop, sometimes doesn’t even display the mouse, but shows a highlight over a control panel as if the mouse is reacting to elements on the screen; even though no position is visible. It basically renders maneuvering the computer impossible without force quitting OBS
I can try to screen record the behavior if that would help
you said you had been using OBS and macOS screen capture without issues before this happened. do you know what changed?
Yes, I have been. I do not believe there were any changes I have made to OBS that would illicit these issues. I have recently been playing around with different bitrate settings, and have used virtual camera for the first time. I have had successful streams and recordings since virtual camera but a few days ago this issue just “happened”. The only changes that I’m aware of on the computer is a new update availability for 15.4 from 15.3.2. I have not completed this update yet, but I don’t believe it should be affecting OBS in this way regardless.. I will be able to update this afternoon and see if the issue persists.
how much free disk space do you have?
~200GB
i am not sure what could be going on. is there something specific you are capturing with macOS screen capture that causes the performance to degrade?
Hi, @forest axle helped me some other time about the source being bigger than the canvas can u tell me what to do.
I keep having this error on my Mac Air M2 runnig Sequoia 15.4 everytime I start OBS, its even started to crash mid stream now when I open the minimized window, anyone else facing the issue, and any solutions?
can you post a crash report? see below
!maccrash
A macOS crash report is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash report:
- Open Console.app (Located in
/Applications/Utilities). - Navigate to the Crash Reports view along the left sidebar, then sort the table by date to find the most recent crash with the OBS process name.
- Drag and drop the selected crash onto the Discord window to upload the file, or copy-and-paste the report text here.
that issue is caused by the youtube live control panel dock
if you close it, OBS won't crash on exit, and you won't see that popup
Oh, you were right. Tysm, it worked!
I wondered about that but upon testing with a blank scene in a blank profile, no sources>adding capture (it shows the dialogue screen for selecting display capture, application capture, window capture..) the computer screen immediately started having the same issue. To reiterate, just by adding the source on a blank file it has the issue.
what display are you using?
Huh. I think 13.2 may have introduced some sort of change to SceneCaptureKit because someone else on 15.4 and myself on 15.4, 15.5, are having similar issues: https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/issues/12044
Interestingly, someone else on an M1 MAX couldn't reproduce, and it seems the freezing severity and system impact varies per person? Really strange.
I have 3 displays. Main display is a LED Cinema Display, second monitor is a ACER, and 3rd is a Wacom Display+Drawing Tablet.
you might try narrowing it down to see if it's specific to one of those displays
13.2?
Alright I’ll do that
I am having an identical issue on a MacBook Air M2 with a single display (the laptop display), and someone else is having the issue with an M4 MAX.
There is an issue plaguing macOS Screen Capture sources on some machines.
i am aware, yes, and am actively working on getting to the bottom of it
Is there any testing I can do on a technical level to aid in figuring out the cause? I seem to have the most severe of the issues reported, and I'm using a single display on an M2 MacBook, so it might be easier for me to identify a cause.
As per the github, I already did a number of tests to rule out third-party plugins, filters, and other things unrelated to Screen Capture.
As a side note, I found setting OBS' framerate to match my display's refresh rate reduced the severity and time-to-impact of system-wide effects of any lag, as well as delayed when lag would occur in OBS. With my default scene collection containing many MSC sources system lag was still, eventually, felt, but it was a noticeable improvement, albeit temporary.
in your initial reports you described a memory leak associated with the performance issues. can you clarify that in a blank scene collection with just the minimum number of macOS screen capture sources required to reproduce the issue, and nothing else, that you still see this memory leak?
It was nocebo. There was mention of potential memory leaks in that thread, so I "perceived" conditions that when described sound like a memory leak.
In extended testing, the RAM usage is stable and nominal.
So far, the only signifier that something is wrong is the iPhone video capture throwing these ad infinitum in the log:
16:14:49.526: Audio timestamp for 'iPhone' exceeded TS_SMOOTHING_THRESHOLD, diff=85333335 ns, expected 238961845374998, input 238961930708333
16:14:49.542: [src: iPhone] ts lag after ignoring: 491827833
16:14:49.542: Source iPhone audio is lagging (over by 491.83 ms) at max audio buffering. Restarting source audio.
Which is funny because I have the iPhone's audio source muted and hidden. I'm not even capturing the audio, but the Screen Capture Kit lag causes the iPhone video capture to also lag, which in turn lags its audio capture (which is sadly mandatory).
if macOS in general is under too much load, then yes, audio sources in OBS lagging is a common sign
i still cannot reproduce the issue so there is clearly some sort of factor that's missing
i would also like to focus on macOS 15.4; i have separately troubleshooted and reported to apple specific performance concerns in some scenarios with 15.3 and earlier, which were actually resolved by 15.4 in my testing
the other user in here was on 15.3
though it doesn't sound like they were encountering the specific concerns i was focused on before, just general issues
so there may be some issue common to 15.3 and 15.4 that remains, but in any case, to remove all possible extra variables, we should focus on 15.4
To note, I upgraded to 15.5 (24F5042g) as part of AppleSeed and the issues remain, so this issue effects 15.4 and 15.5 so far.
i've also separately noticed occasional system fps stutter in macOS 15.4, but i've reproduced that under conditions that don't involved screencapturekit whatsoever
so there may also be an issue that happens to affect SCK disproportionately for some users but isn't isolated to it
For myself it seems to be primarily triggered by SCK, compounded by the OBS framerate setting. In which case it may be that the bug with SCK is a catalyst for some other bug (as I noted in a previous message edit, I did get lag using integer values rather than common values before).
Currently running OBS in preview with 6 Screen Capture Kit based sources + 1 AV capture device (my iphone). Lag is less severe to start in a clean scene collection, but in testing it still crops up over roughly 5 minutes or so. So far OBS seems to double in RAM usage after the first minute, but then it levels out there and doesn't continue to grow. CPU usage however repeatedly spikes over time.
Update: interesting development — When I am experiencing lag, and I remove the video capture source, the lag goes away. I found this by accident too. Was using my iPhone display as the capture source per normal, and had to answer a phone call so I disconnected it. Lag instantly gone, both system wide and in OBS. When I reconnected my phone, instant lag.
I have noted additional findings on GitHub.
ok so the tentative theory is macos screen capture sources in conjunction with a video capture device source, specifically the iphone in your case
That seems about right. I did notice that even as my system was grinding to a halt the GIF i play as a background to a scene unfathomably continued to run.
I wouldn't rule out other capture types, but at the very least video capture devices.
@forest axle I have made no changes since my previous message. OBS had the original "basic" folder (including scenes and profiles) with the problematic files upon last exit. I was unable to check if it was a monitor specific issue however I did do the system update to 15.4. Upon opening OBS in the new version of the computer (again, no changes made in OBS or other applications/software between the issue during 15.3.2 and now), it does not have any issues with my screen. Seemingly so, the system update resolved my issue. I plan to research more on WHY this occurred and if it truly was caused or impacted by updating the OS.
can anyone tell mw why it isnt showing my game
help me
I'm doing some testing to confirm, but so far, swapping out the Video Capture Device for a macOS Screen Capture of Quicktime showing the same exact device, and after 5 minutes and counting there is no lag. Update: I still get lag, see below.
In testing with a USB capture card added via a Video Capture Device source to see if it does the same thing, I do in fact get lag after a couple minutes.
The log interestingly reports ```log
adding 116 milliseconds of audio buffering, total audio buffering is now 185 milliseconds (source: Hum)
*...on a Media Source* whenever the lag begins, not the Video Capture Device as it had done with the iPhone previously. And whilst switching away from a scene that has lacks the Video Capture Device does *not* restore performance alone, I also *don't* get lag if I leave OBS on a scene without it on launch.
But I do experience "hitching" (brief lag spikes) still in my default scene collection. System FPS is lowered as well. **This includes after removing all Video Capture Devices & relaunching OBS.**
**Furthermore, accessing an external capture device via an Aux/Mic assignment triggers the lag to a lesser degree.** Perhaps the issue lies in the audio subsystem?
Thanks sorted it now !
@forest axle it's audio, as I suspected originally. I can definitively prove it now, at least in my case. When working with a copy of my scene collection with all Video Capture sources and audio generating sources removed (Browser Source, Media Source, etc.) and a single assignment in Audio preferences for the mic, I still get lag over a period of time, which impacts system performance. This is seemingly compounded by Mic & application audio capture activity.
When removing the audio device assignment for my mic, thus leaving 0 audio generating sources outside of macOS Screen Capture and macOS Application Audio Capture sources, lag is gone, and system performance is restore. My Dock's magnification easily reflects this with buttery smooth full framerate animation, as opposed to the light choppiness I am used to with OBS open.
Being said, over a period of 13 minutes, mild system choppiness/lag returned. Test condition has 2 capture sources: A window capture for QuickTime, & an audio capture for Music, currently playing audio.
Everything seems to point to audio capture as part of ScreenCaptureKit. Updated my last GitHub comment to elaborate on testing and conditions.
Update: Removing a stale install of Rogue Amoeba ACE I discovered (installed by Discord prior to switching to ScreenCaptureKit) seems to have mostly solved system UI lag issues, and has also altered the behavior of OBS lag:
- When a lag event is occurring, system lag is mostly nonexistent when tabbed out of OBS. However, Discord lags heavily now when this occurs.
- If I am switching windows or hovering over the dock with magnification, at the start of a lag event, there is a noticeable reduction in frames which is quickly recovered from.
- Likewise, if the preview is hidden, a windowed projector of the preview is created, and OBS is minimized, lag events behave as follows:
- Lag is periodic; intermittent.
- After an event, the dropped frames will "catch up", as if OBS didn't drop them, but rather was delayed in processing them.
Hello i cant hear anything from my capture card device on obs
As in on the stream/recording itself, or just in OBS?
same for me§

- Have you selected an audio monitoring device in OBS settings under Audio?
- Have you enabled Monitor and Output for the capture card from Advanced Audio Settings via the Audio Mixer panel?
Why when I add the display capture source my screen is black? I’m tryna react to a YouTube video but I can’t figure out how to screen record my screen (it’s just a black screen) can someone please help me?
I’m here
I'm not too sure on mac side how it's done, I can only point to high-level similarities.
Can I call you?
@crimson reef
if you run it fullscreen/fullscreen windowed then it's your monitor's resolution (which should be what you use as a default for canvas size)
ok
window capture work?
How do I do that again?
Yo
Are you using a "macOS Screen Capture" source?
Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to do this! I had the same crash report so I tried this, however it deleted all of my scene sources after. When I openned it back up without any of these it does seem to work without a crash, but I'm wondering if it will keep happening when I build up new scenes?
that particular crash should be solved in 31.0.3 (the current version of OBS)
Hopefully someone has a second to look. I have been having this same crash issue for over a year I'm afraid to admit. I've tried everything I know to
Sorry I just saw this, was scrolled up. Maybe the crash report is different then, it looked similar, but I also am not good at reading them 😅
this one is indeed different
do you have any specific steps for how to reliably cause this crash?
It really doesn't seem to be affected by anything specific. Just now it crashed while I was looking for a missing file. But it can also just randomly crash mid-stream without me changing anything at all
I know everything is up-to-date as far as mac os & obs, I also just did a first aid on my mac. So I literally have no clue
Follow up: I think it's only crashing if I'm editing the properties of sources or clicking around in scenes
can someone help me with really bad fps drops in my recordings? i haven't used obs in 3 or so weeks and haven't changed any of the settings yet my new recordings are all choppy instead of fluid 😭
No matter what capture device I use, the FPS values won't show up. Anyone know what's up?

finally fixed it 😭
How exactly are you chroma keying yourself? Do you have a green screen or the likes?
I’ve found the reason, thank u!
Can I ask what was wrong? Out of curiosity.
I am adding it in the filters of my video source.
I have OBS Mobile camera to use my iPhone as a webcam, everything works well, I eve tried the background removal plugin and it is ok, but it just does not look good at all
Anyone is free to correct me, but chroma key relies, to my knowledge, on a solid color background that you "key out" (remove). Like, green screen or the likes. Then there's "luma key", which removes things based on brightness. I'm not sure about any other background removal plugins, but they're not magic. They need a way of telling apart you from the background.
ohhh okok. I am a newbie using OBS so it is all new for me.
Anyone uses a green screen?
just the video encoder apparently 😭
which was like really odd since there were no problems when i first started using obs
How long ago was that? I know OBS has changed some of their encoder options on Mac a fair bit over the years.
-# (I'm poking my own OBS issues and trying to see what sticks.)
this looks like you might have game mode on
(it should be off)
Guys I’m in desperate need of help whoever actually helps me and I fix it I’ll send you 10$ 😭 so my project for class requires me to make a reaction video of this YouTube video so after I’m done recording and watch back the video all you hear is my audio from my mic but not the YouTube video.
And it’s not just when I use YouTube either obs isn’t capturing any of my Mac audio
I took so much time figuring it out and watching videos and making sure settings are right and still nothing
I do not
Are you able to import scene collections from Windows OBS into the Mac version?
yes
it might need a bit of adjusting on stuff like window capture and stuff since those are different from mac to windows, but the bulk of the SC will be fine
Okay, thank you!
New to the server. Has anyone had an issue or heard of an issue to where OBS on MacOS crashes when attempting to stream to a server port that is not opened yet? On Windows, we would get an error that the stream "Could not access the specified channel or stream key....".
From the logs, it appears that OBS crashed when attempting to throw up the error (or maybe before).
This is on multiple versions on MacOS and multiple versions of OBS.
I can add the logs, but first -- checking to see if this is a known issue to not waste anyones time.
Thank you!

hi does any mac user e(mac studio 2025) experience window capture size keeps changing? i attached a recording
i made sure to set the window capture in obs to a certain size idk why it keeps changing during streaam

hi I'm using a Mirabox capture card to try to record gameplay from my switch to my Mac, and OBS isn't showing any video

OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide

Hello can someone help me please. I was just normally streaming till today and then out of nowhere my Elgato Chat Link Pro, which I am using to capture the game sound of my PS5, stopped working correctly. When I am playing Clips out of my PS Library, it still passes through my voice but the ingame sound is very weird and almost not there. I downloaded Streamlabs to test if it was my cable, but unfortunatly everything is working fine in there. Does someone know a solution?
Hey guys just circling back on this, has anyone got any idea regarding solutions?
Are you using the OBS virtual camera for TikTok Studio?
Bringing this back up -- Has anyone come across an issue like this or know if I am posting in the correct place?
Thank you!

There we go
Oh got it, thank you. One moment
do you have the OBS log from when this crash occurred? this is different from the macOS crash report which you just posted.
you can find logs in OBS by doing File->Show Settings Folder, then navigating to the logs folder. you'd be looking for a past log from when this crash occurred, in this instance
- macOS 13.6 (OK)
- No Output Session
- No Scenes/Sources
Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB) / Apple Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB)
the crash you posted indicated that it occurred while stopping a stream. are you sure that's the log that corresponds to the crash? if you can reproduce it again, it might be easier to confirm
That is correct. Confirmed, the log produced is the log when reproduce. I am able to reproduce it each time I press the "Start Streaming" button. Would it help to have a video of the crash?
Also, some background, when we started getting this feedback about OBS crashing with this scenario, the we downloaded a fresh copy on a machine that has not had OBS on it yet. The log above is from that machine.
Its odd as when we replicate it with a windows machine it doesn't crash, only throws up an error message.
if you have another separate OBS log of the crash, as well as another separate macOS crash report, that might help, just in order to confirm for sure

can you provide a more specific repro? i.e. what specific service are you streaming to, and what is the specific network configuration causing the crash? i cannot immediately reproduce the crash
Hey, I'm trying to stream again and my video display shrunk and I have no idea how to get it back to where it was
Just did a full strem with no crash, it's definitely source/scenes based. Building my scenes/sources back up slowly so I can figure out what exactly caused it. I'll follow up as I know more to hopefully help others dealing with this too!
Hello, I’m having a issue that wasn’t happening before. It just started happening out of no where. Every time I close OBS. Or turn off my Mac and then the next day I turn on my Mac and open OBS I have to delete my elgato from the scene and re add it again because it’s just a black screen. But I’m not getting a “no signal” screen like usual when there is nothing coming through
Sent a video of what I’m referring to
Any way to fix this? I’ve already delete my profile and settings and set everything up as if I had just downloaded OBS but same thing keeps happening
My OBS and elgato are also up to date. So no need to update

Ah thank you so much
hey, we are using tiktok live manager because we are doing it for tiktok shop but yes, exactly
Does the OBS preview look the same as in the TikTok app?
I am having a 30 second lag issue that is driving me bonkers!! I'm a new OBS user but I tried all the advice about dialing down the fps and reducing the weight and literally nothing changes the lag even a little, even if I lower the quality to the point of like not even being able to see the screen anymore. Is this a case of crossed wires somewhere, or is it just an issue with the 31 update? This is driving me crazy, talking with my viewers is almost impossible
my service is picarto
- Low Stream Bitrate
- Stream Delay
Intel Core i5-10600 @ 3.30GHz - OK! / Radeon Pro 5300 - OK!
Stream delay is normal, anything less than a minute is pretty good.
The stream delay setting in OBS only adds delay, so disable it to save 5 seconds.
following the bot advice I got it down to 15 seconds from 30, is this on average?
When you say lag, do you mean OBS lagging/freezing/skipping? Or do you mean delay between what you stream and what users see?
delay! Like if I say something now 15 seconds later it appears on the stream. I know this is pretty common but at what point is that amount of time not average?
AH ok that's not "lag".
Yeah, that is good
hrrrmmmmm ok thank you!
If you want something more realtime, bitrate is what effects that.
At the end of the day, the bitrate determines how large the "size" of the finished video is.
Higher bitrate means it takes longer for a streaming service to process it and longer to send/receive it.
Smaller streaming services like Picarto may also have less infrastructure which could impact stream delay.
Hi sorry I’m new here! Sorry if this question has been asked before🙈
I’m I am trying to stream my PlayStation gameplay to TikTok live via my MacBook and OBS and restream.. I seem to have everything set up on OBS but when I am transferring the stream to TikTok live via restream there is no audio at all on my TikTok live.. anyone able to help me?
(Also I’m just wondering how to stop the jittering with the volume that is playing on OBS from the PS gameplay - also want to be able to include audio from teammates in Fortnite and/or discord parties audio )
thank you Azi!

Hi, anyone here using virtual audio? What virtual audio is used for mac? I need it to output the audio on Zoom Meeting.
Welcome to the OBS community support channel. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it, and if someone is available to help they'll respond. Try to be detailed, and provide a log if you are having issues with streaming/recording (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log). Please be patient if someone doesn't respond right away!
!vbcable Here you go
- Install VB-Audio CABLE. (A reboot is not required)
- In OBS Studio, go to Settings > Audio and select "CABLE Input" as your Monitoring Device
- Go to Edit > Advanced Audio Properties and enable Audio Monitoring for the audio sources you'd like to stream to Discord.
- In Discord, in Voice & Video settings, select "CABLE Output" instead of your microphone under "Input device".
Now anything you monitor in OBS Studio will be streamed to Discord. Similar steps will work with other conferencing apps, such as Microsoft Teams or Slack.

i cant install virtualcam please help me
that looks like it worked, but also why are you asking this here when you're on windows?
Hey, just a random question. I was helping someone with obs earlier and it was asked about how to change the quality of videos we record or stream on OBS. Anyone know how to do this?
very new here and also new to content creation and Im having alot of trouble with audio
My game audio was working fine when I first connected my elgato, but once I added a secondary audio input for my voice the game audio was lowered alot and became very choppy/ almost robotic
any suggestions?
that'll depend a lot on stream or recording
for me I mostly stream
then what would control it is both the resolution/fps in settings > video and the bitrate in settings > output
ok, thank you
Im planning on using discord via my mac to record "party" audio, so I can also hear my game audio as well. but theres a slight delay in obs for monitoring the game audo. Is there a better way to hear both the game and "party" audio while recording both, or maybe a way to mitigate/get rid of that delay?
is there anyone that can DM me for help. need to get this sorted badly
support is done on the server not in DMS, if you have a question, ask it
ok i was running OBS with hologram.xyz and everything was fine i have a little penguin avatar I use. I had a window capture device and then the penguin which was a video capture device. No isses. I then updated to Mac Sequoia because I thought my computer was a little wonky with the streaming and now OBS does not recognize the hologram camera. I checked permissions in privacy settings all good there. restarted comp. un installed and re installed both aps.
- No Output Session
Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB) / Apple Apple M1 (not in benchmark DB)
so to make sure I understand, it's a virtual cam that's not working anymore?
Yes the hologram camera isnt even showing up under video capture device as an option. Before it was showing up but it was a black screen. Then something happened and now it isn't even an option to use. Before it was right there you go click on it and thats that
i can open my virtual camera application and it works moves around when i talk etc but OBS won't recognize it now
does it work in other programs?
anyone know what the difference between the difference between the "Mac os screen capture" and the old capture before they changed it
because afaik macos changed the way virtual cameras are done with it, so if it's using the "old way" it very much might not work anymore at all in new macos
indeed
yes it does
which other program?
had it working on zoom
difference in what regard?
it uses the new aPI that macos will support whereas the old one is deprecated.
it also allows captureing specific windows and specific audio
does it work in safari?
how do i test it on safari
See if you can choose it as a camera on the test site
choose the virtual camera in this site
the OBS virtual camera is a static image it says
not the obs virtual camera, the virtual camera from the hologram
ok. Seemed functionally the same but the audio part may be the improvelent
only other options is video input 1?
it says obs or facetime HD
no option for the hologram
so, the hologram doesn't work in safari
pretty sure it's because it's using the old vcam stuff and not the new one
ok what should i do now
safari doesnt pick it up
This is what it looks like open
i wonder why it was working before and then upon updating to sequoia it just stopped and wont show up now
as I said :
because afaik macos changed the way virtual cameras are done with it, so if it's using the "old way" it very much might not work anymore at all in new macos
ok is there anything to do or is it basically shot at this point
contact the developper of this porgram, ask them to update it
alternatively, do a window capture, crop it, and chroma key
alternatively alternatively use one of the many other existing vtubing/pngtubing program
you can have multiple window captures at once? also how do you crop it exactly to just that small penguin
To crop a source in OBS Studio, there are two options:
A. Crop the source directly by holding Alt/Option and dragging the source's resize handles. The sides turn green to indicate they are cropped. Note: the preview and source must be unlocked.
B. Add a Crop Filter to crop the source prior to applying other filters. Note: this filter applies to every instance of the source, regardless of scene.
and yes can have as many window captures as you want
ok last quesiton my macs fan keeps coming on when i stream etc should i go out and get a better computer for streaming? this is a M1 chip but idk
does it cause issues?
it was before kinda thats why i updated software
whats the best computer for gaming/streaming
laptop wise
there's not one single answer to that
top 3?
no
it's gonna depend wildly on your needs and resources
the best one is one that works for what you do
Hello, all! I have a bit of an OBS/Mac/Discord issue that hoping I can get some insight on.
Background: 'I'm using Discord version 0.0.343 (0.0.343) and OBS studiio 31.0.3 64 bit on a Macbook Pro M2 Max laptop.
I am using a developer's version of MacOS, but jsut started to see this issue today. No issues prior to this.
MacOS Sequoia Version 15.5 Beta (24F5053f)
I've recently started to run into an issue where I am using OBS with a VLC source to share the windowed preview to a voice channel in Discord. The preview window has "Always on top selected", but after maybe 15 minutes give or take the Discord stream will drop. I've tried disabling hardware acceleration in OBS, VLC and Discord but I'm pretty stumped. Has anyone else experienced this before?
ok. it seems as if the double window capture devices are working well though
how are you sharing a discord voice channel through VLC?
and, why?
I run a movie night in my server. I streamed a movie earlier with VLC directly and had the same issue where it seems that Discord cut the share thinking maybe there was not a video.
I've had more luck using OBS with a VLC source, and then share the OBS previous window. I had the same experience.
tried with the virtualcam?
You can share your OBS Studio content over video call services such as Zoom, Skype, Discord, etc. by following the Video Call Streaming Tutorial.
I have tried it, but was concerned about the sound not coming through
I've done this before on a previous night and don't recall any issues. Would this method be the more stable?
discord should allow you to select an audio device for that, and this guide explains how to use that witha virtual cable for audio
The thing is that Discord allows me to do both optionsk but it's more that the Discord share stops after 10-15 minutes. I'm wondering if there is something with OBS that signals Discord that there isn't a video feed which makes iDiscord drop the share.
with virtual camera, as long as you ave video in obs, it'll be constantly sending a video feed to discord
so, if it still happens, then it's on discord's end
Got it! Thank you! Quick question for you... Would I need ot have my mic on for sound to come through when using the virtual camera?
afaik there should be a way to select a specific device
Perfect! Thank you !
Hey sorry to bother but I'm currently running into an issue involving OBS Virtual Camera and Discord. I'm on OBS 31.0.2 and when I tried to add OBS virtual camera to Discord it doesn't show up. I've been restarting OBS and Discord for pretty long now but it doesn't seem to fix the issue. I've also checked video settings in Discord and it isn't there either
I have the preview setting in virtual camera
Good afternoon, whenever I try to choose the OBS camera option, it doesn't show up. I'm on a macOS 12.7.4. I tried terminal codes and it doesn't work.
So when I retried it, I can only access it on the web version but I have to be in two different calls at the same time for it to register on the web version of discord and the app

@mellow wave Any chance of taking some "action" here?👆
Update obs bro
im on the latest version though (for mac atleast) i cant find any more updates
Hey Guys, i just updated to the latest macos to Sequoia 15.4.1, than it cann't open OBS again. It said [You can'y open the application"OBS" because this application is not supported on this Mac.
make sure to grab the intel installer
👍
I have three year old iMac with a 24" screen and running an M1 chip, 8 gig memory and Sequoia 15.3.2 and would like to Stream WGT. When I go to add a source capture card, I can only add the in built Face-time camera. If I chose to run the a Window capture I get some weird screen capture that show only bits of my screen, Question: Do I need to purchase a separate Video Capture Card or how do I display me entire screen or the WGT window.
Cheers
you should be able to use screen capture
I forgot. When I open OBS it runs in full screen and a can't fins a way to run it a window
At the moment when I click on the + button to add a source, nothing happens. Is there a way I can uninstall the whole OBS and re-install it. I've tried that once and it still opens in full screen.
!settings
close obs, go to the folder described below, rename user.ini to user.ini.old check if that does it
To find OBS Studio's settings files, look in the following OS-specific locations:
- Windows: Press Windows+R →
%APPDATA%\obs-studio - macOS: In Finder, press Shift-Cmd-G →
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio - Linux:
~/.config/obs-studio
I can now run OBS in a window and the source + buttons work, which show this.
use macos screen capture
I don't know which one of these works as I've tried a few
This is what I get, Does the OBS window disappera whn I start streaming or how do i get rid of it
you can set the source to capture a specific window instead of the whole screen, or you can just minimize obs
HOw do get it to capture a specific window. I think of tried using that option before. I'll try again
you change the method to application capture or window capture
then, selet the window
I only get part of the WGT window bot the whole lot
right click the source > resize output (source size)
get this
bottom right of the preview, set the zoom to scale to window
When I first chose Window Capture this is what shows but when I press OK I get the zoomed in section in the preview wind. I'm obviously missing some thing
screenshot the whole obs window
Wheen I click this what shows in the preview
right click that > resize output (source size)
Finally I think !!!! Thanks for you help. You must be a miracle worked !!! I'm fust goiing to shut OBS and see it keeps everythig
👍
