1. In OBS Settings → Audio, set your Monitoring Device to the speakers/headset through which you wish to hear the source audio, then click OK

• Monitor Off: only hear in your stream/recording
• Monitor and Output: hear through your device and your stream/recording
• Monitor Only: only hear through your device; don't hear in your stream/recording

Note: ensure you use a different monitoring device than any device you capture. Otherwise, your stream/recording will contain an echo.

That doesn’t show up for me unfortunately even after unchecking preset. Is there a place to submit the suggestion/request for OBS to offer the portrait ratio options in future versions? The cropping in to fit the vertical canvas is not a viable solution because it creates an intense zoom and pixelates my picture quality. I really want to set up my vertical videos in OBS to match the look and sound of all my landscape OBS recordings since I have all my filters set up already. OBS should incorporate portrait ratios and some zoom controls in near future versions.

Hey everyone. I don't know if this is the right thread to post this but I need help. I am trying to separate my mic audio and my game audio. Every time I use source record for some reason my facecam video has both mic and game audio together. The game capture video is fine it just has the gameplay audio. However, no matter what I do in the settings I can't get the mic audio on its own. Even in my main video, I can't seem to get the mic and game audio separate. When I tried plugging my main video into DaVinci there was one audio track with just gameplay and another track with mic and gameplay audio. I am using a Mac mini with an M1 chip and my obs and source record are up to date. If anyone has any solution it would help a lot. I have been having this issue for months and cant properly edit my videos.

Does anyone use OBS on your Mac for recording remote sessions of a Windows PC (via the Windows App aka RD Client) and encounter audio hiss/noise problem when audio is played? I found that once I launch an application on the remote Windows machine which utilizes the audio driver that the sound suddenly has a continually hiss, even if nothing is actually playing. Closing the application and the hiss stops. When checking the same from a Windows to another Windows machine it doesn't happen...

I'm running an instance of OBS in Companion. There used to be a function to start/stop the OBS virtual camera, but now it appears to be missing from the OBS module for Companion. Am I doing something wrong, or did they remove that function in an update?

Hello sorry to bother again. Just ran my first test stream everything was running great, Spotify, discord, alerts, tts, etc. Only thing I noticed is the gameplay is looking very choppy but I’m not dropping any frames, at 60FPS, and my bit rate stays between 6000-6500 while streaming

yeah, it looks like the cable you're connecting your HD60X with is not specced to USB3 (5gb/s)

and earlier the presence of the hub may have disguised that

Because elgato provide a USB-C to USB-A cable but as we know Macs don’t have a USB-Aport hence why I bought the usb hub

i don't recommend any specific brands or anything, but the general requirement is that the cable supports and is specced for USB-3 data transfer speeds (5 GB/s or greater). you have to carefully check the product pages because sometimes they will mention USB 3 but not actually support it

i usually recommend just getting something higher specced like a certified thunderbolt 3 cable

Hi there, Getting back into streaing after about 5 months of avoiding it and after a lot of avoiding it and came back to y OBS preview looking extremely choppy. After tinkering around with it I was able to get the preview of the game screen to be as smooth as it is on the monitor, however no matter what I try the camera just doesn't seem to seem want to have that smooth image it used to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Having issues with My Macbook Pro i7 and OBS version: 31.0.1 64 Bit

Specifics: Issues with recording and finalizing the recording

This has been happening for at least two versions of OBS.

Issue: when I record on my Macbook Pro, recording seems fine when running.
When I stop recording, the record button does not immediately stop. I have to click it again 15 seconds later and hope the recording is good.

Tried these solutions:

Switched to .mkv Matroska recording. Same issue. Problems

Do you have your sound as default on OBS settings under audio? And what is your output settings on your Mac? Go to settings>sounds on your Mac, make sure they’re the same on your Mac and OBS. This was my biggest issue at first. But I finally figured it out. It’s a pain.

Hi, I'm coming back to streaming after being away for a few months. Now that I am back I am having two main issues:

1. my mic is VERY low. I have it turned up all the way in OBS, in my mac settings, and the mic itself and it still will barely hit the middle on the audio bar
2. my image from my capture card is not showing on obs anymore. obs is picking up my game audio as normal, but the screen is just black on obs. I do see a little red square on the top left as though I could resize but when I click nothing happens.

i'm not sure. your microphone sounds totally normal, so i think it's working fine and it's just quiet. if you need it louder, you might want to try adding audio filters to the mic source in OBS. a gain filter will just make it louder, and you can try others too

Are you familiar with blue yeti mics? Does the fact that the headphone symbol is lit up on the bottom right change anything? The mic button on the bottom left is not lit up

• Monitor Off: only hear in your stream/recording
• Monitor and Output: hear through your device and your stream/recording

actually the obs analyzer told me that: "Your GPU is maxed out and OBS can't render scenes fast enough. Running a game without vertical sync or a frame rate limiter will frequently cause performance issues with OBS because your GPU will be maxed out. Vsync is an option in some games that limits FPS to your screen's refresh rate. In games that don't have it, there may be a specific FPS setting.

Hi guys. After the update, I had a problem capturing video at 1440p on my capture card device. There are only 1080p or 4k presets. And they work great. Unfortunately, I can't choose 4k because then the recording will be made in only 30 frames. Before that, I turned off the «use preset» function and selected the 2560x1440p in the drop-down window. But now, when I turn off the «use presets», the picture just disappears. Who knows if it's possible to fix it?

I run OBS 31 on Mac Os Sonoma to record, not stream. I've been getting crashes at 20 minute intervals with no crash report. Today I upgraded to MacOS Sequoia and uninstalled and reinstalled OBS. I would love to use OBS to shoot my vertical/portrait videos and keep consistent with the same video & sound quality + filters that I use on my landscape oriented OBS videos, but the current work around of cropping a 16:9 video source onto a 9:16 canvas creates an extreme zoom that reduces my video quality and doesn't work for my content. Please offer 9:16 aspect ratio resolution options for when someone is adding a vertical video source. Currently my iPhone is orienting to vertical properly, but its forced to expand across the landscape canvas to fit the OBS 16:9 resolutions (since thats currently all thats offered), which I then have to crop into further to fit the 9:16 canvas, creating that extreme zoom that I can't work with. Or when I try to rotate it to match the vertical orientation of the canvas it does not adjust the orientation through the iPhone (because the resolution is already locked in from when we add the video source.) Hopefully this could be included in the software soon as I assumed this basic reorientation functionality would have been built in from early on.

The Iphone only allows those resolutions so that's the only thing obs can propose

I tried it with my webcam as well and it was the same. It's the OBS software that is limiting the options to 16:9, not the video source itself. The video recording devices are reorienting to vertical/portrait orientation properly, but OBS would need to offer 9:16 aspect ratio options in the resolution dropdown menu when adding a video source to allow vertical video sources to project seamlessly without all the zooming and cropping.

No, I don't know what other recording programs to use. I only recently started my channel and was advised to use OBS from the start because I switch between views from different video devices and multi cam scenes. Landscape recording for my long form videos have gone well (just a bit of lag sometimes), but once I needed to switch to recording vertical short form clips and couldn't get the proper set up in OBS, I have just been recording directly from my phone in the interim, but would prefer to record in OBS to keep all my same filters and elements for quality and consistency, and to view through my laptop while recording.

Hi guys. After the update, I had a problem capturing video at 1440p on my capture card device. There are only 1080p or 4k presets. And they work great. Unfortunately, I can't choose 4k because then the recording will be made in only 30 frames. Before that, I turned off the «use preset» function and selected the 2560x1440p in the drop-down window. But now, when I turn off the «use presets», the picture just disappears. Who knows if it's possible to fix it?

Hello all, We have an Mac Studio (M1 Max) that had previously been running an older OBS via Rosetta (Intel-only code). It was using NDI plugins to get video from our NDI cameras and route things out to our streaming platform, and also out to an NDI-SDI converter to send video to various monitors connected to an SDI distribution amp (Black Magic SDI equipment througout). We updated to Apple Silicon-native OBS and also updated the NDI software to current version (now called DistroAV, apparently). We're now getting very frequent crashes of the OBS software. Even if we're not actively streaming or changing anything - we can just have it sitting open, and it'll abruptly crash on us. We can't make it through a live event without the software crashing, and we've been unable to determine why. We would love any assistance in tracking down the cause. OBS Crash report attached. We were originally running macOS 13.x, just updated the Mac to 14.7.3 and it has made no difference.

hmm, i'd pay particular attention to whatever the cable is that connects that camera to your camlink. it could be that it isn't fast enough, or maybe even that the camlink doesn't have great support for that particular camera

don't mean to redirect you, but you may also want to check with elgato support; everything seems fine on the OBS end as far as how things are connected, so i suspect the choppiness is an issue between the camera and the camlink

it IS possible to disable it, but the thing is : It is used as standard.
If for example you're uploading your videos to youtube, if you upload a video that isn't subsampled, it'll get subsampled like this.
Pretty much every single video you've ever seen was chroma subsampled

hello friends. I'm having some trouble getting my NDI HX Camera feed to stay connected. Maybe that's the wrong way to put it. The connection works and the video is captured fine, but after some 3-5 minutes, the feed freezes in OBS. App still claims it's sending. Any thoughts? so the way this works is that the dimension is controlled in settings > video, and as everything in the settings window is controlled by the profile

that dimension is applied to all scenes in the scene collection and they rescale to fit that resolution

Hello I’m having trouble getting gameplay sound on my stream. And I want just the game audio sound I don’t need to have party chat or game chat audio since I’m always in discord. I do have the chat link pro cable, and when I connect it the audio that comes through is very choppy and low quality. Do I need the chat link pro cable or is there a way to get game audio without it. 2. remove everything in that folder

but again, that won't affect the background replacement

Good morning 🙏 so I have issues going live on TikTok on my MacBook
The first Time it worked fine, but i got a horizontal output. So i set up the vertical plugin from aitum. Then i started my stream via the plugin but OBS crashed directly.
Then i tried to change the dimension of the standard Szene to vertical, but then the connection didn’t work every second obs tried to reconnect, succes, connection failed, reconnect, succes and so on.
Then i tested another streaming software and the same issues occurred: reconnect, succes, connection failed, reconnect, succes and so on.
Does anybody know what the reason could be for the reconnects?
And does the vertical plugin work on its own or do I have to stream both scenes horizontal and vertical?

Here it is: I want to use the native mac os webcam filters for my iphone webcam (continuity feature) but when I do it applies the feature to all video inputs for obs meaning my game will become blurry for example. Hello forum, I have a question that might be asked a 100 times but I can't find a solution. On my MacbookPro (M1Pro) I want to capture the HDMI-out of my Fuji x-t3 via Elgato Cam Link 4K in HD, 25 fps. On the recorded footage I get dropped frames (sometimes 1 per second), while the OBS stats don't report any drops. When I capture the video via Quicktime there are no drops. So it must be a software issue. Any idea what could cause this?

while that amount of dropped frames is unusual, in general, OBS is not designed to capture each and every frame from video capture devices. that said, you might have more success using the "capture card device" source rather than the "video capture device" source

I'm totally cool with that, but I have a question about which audio interface.

Bc I will be recording the actual mix itself onto a USB stick through the MASTER REC on the upper right front of the RX3, I want to make sure that my talking (to people on stream....or myself lol) through the microphone will not be heard on the mix I'm recording to the MASTER REC USB.

My first question is - is there a way to plug my mic into the RX3's mic input and record my mix onto the USB stick using the MASTER REC without hearing what I'm saying into the mic?

My next question - if that is not possible and I need to feed both the RX3 and a microphone independent from the RX3 through an audio interface into my iMac, which audio interface would be best for handling those two separate channels and keeping them separate in OBS?

In other words for Question 2, can I go RCA (from Master 2 on RX3) to 1/4" on the audio interface while simultaneously going XLR mic directly into the XLR portion of the interface and have those two inputs show up independently in OBS?

I used OBS and VDO.Ninja to record a video interview the other day. When it was recording, the preview monitor looked good and everything seem to be rendering just beautifully. But when I played the recorded video file, there was a lot of lagging and still frames in the end product. Does anyone happen to haev any suggestions or ideas on what may have happened here?

macOS Sequoia update is causing an issue with opening OBS, which keeps quitting after attempting to open it. When I try to open it again, it prompts me to open it in safe mode or normal mode. I’ve reached out to Apple and reinstalled macOS Sequoia, but the problem persists. I’ve also removed OBS from my computer and reinstalled it, but the issue remains. Is there anything else I can do to resolve this problem before my show tomorrow?

in console.app, with the crash report visible can you select and copy the report text (with command-A and command-C), then go back to discord and just paste it into the box with command-V? the discord text box should show a "message.txt" file, and at that point you should just need to hit enter to send it

that crash looks like a currently-known issue where OBS will crash if it is using over 8GB of memory. this typically happens if you're running a replay buffer that's longer than 2-3 minutes, depending on your recording settings

To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:

1. Restart OBS Studio first!
2. Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
3. Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
4. Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
5. Paste the URL into this Discord channel

Hey guys, I'm currently trying to set up a OBS bot with OBS on Mac. I have it working so out of an ATEM mini pro it properly displays the video feed on a monitor. But anyway I try to plug it into my Mac either straight HDMI, HDMI to Condor Blue to USB-C or USB-C out of the atem mini pro into the Mac. The video feed shows up as black in OBS. I've determined that it's purely an OBS issue because QuickTime Movie displays the video feed properly. Can anyone help me with this please? obs picksup either blackmagic design. (atem mini pro) or usb video (kondor blue) but the feed is consistenly black in OBS while it displays properly in quicktime. Any help would be appreciated🙏

1. open finder
2. press command-shift-G, then paste in the following and hit enter:
   ~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio
3. navigate to the logs folder
4. drag and drop onto this window the most recent log file in that folder?

your memory use is very high because of the amount of media sources you have in your scenes

and because of an unfortunate bug in CEF, this is crashing OBS

But I did nothing different. All I was doing when this started happening was removing image files and replacing them with new ones. I am changing charities so I was changing the logos for the charities out.

How do I fix this?

The way I do it right now is by using an online screenshare and using a browser source. How do I get it so I can get faster graphics without needing permissions or admin passwords?

Verify that the correct audio input device is selected under “Mic/Auxiliary Audio
Ensure that the “Desktop Audio” option is checked if you wanted to capture system sounds

Go to “Settings” > “Output” > “Streaming” and reduce the “Video Output(scaled)” resolution and bitrate

In the same “Output” settings, check the “FPS” and lower it if needed

Minimize the number of sources in your scene, and use optimized overlays with transparency where possible

Navigate to “Settings” > “Encoding” and select your preferred hardware encoder for better performance

Close background programs that may consuming system resources while streaming

I’m trying to use OBS (most recent version available to my Monterey 12.7.6) trying to screen share with audio and a window to twitch. Video is recognised but all audio output options are blank or only have disabled as an option. Do I need to rollback the OBS update?

I have been having a huge problem on my 2015 MacBook Pro Monterey 12.7.6 where OBS Studio hasn't been recording internal audio. Ive set up blackhole 16ch and aggregate devices but it still doesnt record the audio of the video here for some reason. Ive also tried this with QuickTimePlayer and it also has the same problem too. I hope someone can help me fix this...

I recorded an episode today, 52minutes long. Every test I did sounded great before the interview, but after the interview, when I pressed “stop recording” it said “stopping recording” for about 15min but it never stopped. I clicked the button “stopping recording” then it stopped and ONLY saved the 15min and not my 52min episode. I am 1,000% certain it was recording, I have on camera showing me starting the recording. I watched the red recording light throughout the podcast to see how much time we had been talking for, etc. Why would it not save that and only save what was going on after the recording? Is there any way to recover that audio footage?? I’m soooo bummed.

This happened to me my first time using OBS. the file is so big you have to ride it out and let it load as long as it takes. I was confused but let my computer sit for an hour or so and came back to a full recording with no issues!

I wasn't super clear, sorry. when stopping the recording, you can't press it again, it'll save a portion of the file. You have to press it once and let it load as long as it needs. When you pressed "stopping recording" the second time after 15 mins of waiting, you cut the process short 😦 That's why it partially saved.

Next time, press stop recording and leave your computer as long as it needs to process and save the recording.
