Hey, I'm trying to stream my Elgato HD60 S but I can't find it in my sources anywhere.

I know the mac recognizes the device, but the only devices listed for capture card devices are "OBS virtual camera" and "Facetime HD camera".

On macOS, some older Elgato capture devices may not be supported or require workarounds to use with OBS Studio:

I've been running into an intermittent problem that is slightly different than anything I see mentioned above so I'm going to ask but I also have limited knowledge of OBS still so I fear part of the problem is I don't know what I don't know.

Out of the gates:

Device: Apple Mac Studio M2 Ultra Sequoia 15.1 (24B83)
OBS: OBS Studio 30.2.3

I have, but not understand BlackHole 2ch. I do have it setup with a multi-output device, but I haven't really wrapped my head around needing it for streaming yet (mostly because I only stream the output of the applications themselves so I suppose I may not need it? I don't need to output the entirety of my device, I prefer the application opt-in, but that might be oversimplifying the goal).

Already mentioned I have experienced the same blip of my game screen freezing and needing to swap live scenes to get it back - I know now that I can Restart capture. What I haven't seen mentioned but on the same note is that my audio captures just completely stop occasionally out of nowhere and ALSO require that I Restart capture. I originally thought it was because it was an issue with switching my connected output device (Apple AirPod Max to an external plugged in set of Audio-Technica headphones) but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'd like the outcome of 2 things.

• (1) to not have to keep hitting Restart capture non-stop while live and
• (2) to be able to control the output of sound independantly from what I hear in my ear. I prefer little to no music in my ears but happy to keep it going on stream.

I have completely ripped apart my Profile and Scenes, started again from the ground up and recreated everything, but still experience this so it feels like something deeper or perhaps included in the MacOS capture bug. This is the last piece of the metaphorical puzzle though, otherwise everything else seems to be exactly as I like it to be.

Macbook Pro Ventura 13.6.9. Whenever I try to add "Video Capture Device" in Sources, OBS crashes. I've removed and reinstalled OBS a few times. I've also removed items from the Library. All other input items seem to work. Those at least get me to the setup screens for them. Just the Video Capture Device fails. Any thoughts on this? I like to livestream a few application windows, but have performance issues. I'm on a Mac Studio with multiple monitors. What is the most resource friendly way to stream? Should I avoid application window all together? Is application on a specific screen better? Open to suggestions. I do not want to stream my entire screen because there can be some private information that pops up.

I've downloaded version 30.2.3. Now it won't open up the initial screen for Video Capture Device. Before, it would open the initial screen and then go to the crash screen. Then it would simply crash when I tried to open the initial screen. Now it doesn't do anything when I press the +. Oops. There was a hidden screen behind some windows I had open. It was another crash screen. I closed it and tried again. I get to the initial screen when opening Video Capture Device. I leave everything at default. When I press ok, it crashes. I'm going to restart the computer to see if that helps.

yeah that sounds familiar, browser based captures are a common performance complaint. i would update to sequoia 15.1 and see if the situation is improved

if not, i would expect it to be in the next release following macOS 15.1

I think @forest axle can speak more to perf issues, but I am on an M2 Ultra with 64 GB so I would have antcipated your machine to hold up just fine. I will say that my sources are mostly application captures though rather than browser so that may actually be the choke point narrowed down a bit more for you as annoying as that is 🙃

I see you do trading so I imagine it's tickers and all that, I used to develop that kind of software and the graphing/charting libraries are pretty heavy on the browser resources, then capturing that I could see some kind of exponential load I guess, but nothing that should slow a 128GB machine to a crawl.

the issue (from my investigation) is not necessarily that machines like the m1 ultra are underpowered, but that certain types of captures end up slowing down the main thread of windowserver specifically. and if windowserver is having performance issues, that is very bad for the responsiveness of your machine and the system framerate

Yes, that’s why I was asking what the best approach should be. If I turn off audio/video routing to as many apps as possible it helps, but that seems to be where the bottleneck is. I’m trying to stream from TradingView desktop which runs in a chrome
Browser, using other browsers has the same result. I have everything I stream in one TV window to help, originally I was using 2 and had both sources.

This is the only thing that can make this machine crawl.

I'm using the latest version of OBS Studio on my iMac M1 also updated to the last macOS version 🖥️

I can stream at 1080p and 60 fps without ant issues (I use a shadow for gaming) 🎮

But, for example, if I open safari, discord, spotify or chrome, my fps dropps superfast to less than 15. It come back quickly when I minimize my other applications and I focus back to obs.

There is any setting to prevent this behavior ?

according to this, you still have:

• something called iriun camera
• the canon EOS webcam utility
• something called mevo virtual cam
• something called relaycam

the crash is in macOS internals, and i'm guessing it's caused by one of these in some way

iriun, EOS, and mevo have been used for years. I'll look for relaycam. Don't recognize that one. I'm having difficulty locating these. Where can I go to locate these on the macbook pro? Iriun is a webcam, EOS is my DSLR, Mevo is an external camera that I haven't used in a while but was using it three years ago without issue.

i'm not sure; they are software that you at some point installed, so you'll probably have to look up the uninstallers

to be clear: we seem to be looking at a macOS issue. all OBS is doing is telling macOS to initialize a camera device, and it is crashing inside macOS code. and the only thing that seems unique about your setup is the amount of DAL plugins you have, so it's a logical first stop for resolving the problem

I don't know where to find DAL plugins. Unfortunately, I'm not as familiar with mac backend as I am with windows. If I can find out where they are, I can get rid of them. I managed to get rid of one of them but it wasn't the correct way. You mentioned a directory previously but I didn't have that directory called that. Any help in locating it would be appreciated. as i just said, the DAL plugins are part of software you installed. i can tell you the folder the plugins are in (/Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/) but removing the files from there might not be sufficient to actually remove them from your system, which is why i recommended finding the uninstallers for the relevant pieces of software

I am having troubles with my audio (macOS Audio Capture) where it just disconnects and requires I go in and manually Properties -> Restart Capture for each one. I search tells me that It's possibly the same for window/application capturing but I am not sure if they're related - or if this is part of that known issue. Looking to just make it so the problem can be avoided, I don't have much of an opinion on what that looks like, just don't want to continue doing it 5+ times a stream when being told "you should play music" and finding out it cut out like an hour prior.

The second one is from a source you've got setup, so if you're importing a Scene it may come from that, but otherwise it's from a source within your scene that will have the same name

I am at my wits end trying to reliably get OBS 30.2.3 to talk with Bitfocus Companion v3.4.3. I have occasionally gotten it work, but most of the time it will not connect. I am on the same ethernet switch let alone the same network. My M1 mac firewall is off, I uninstalled ESET antivirus, I have started and restarted OBS repeatedly, I have enabled/disabled the websocket server repeatedly, I have set and reset connection authentication, I have rebooted the Pi running companion, I am currently SSH'd into the Pi, I have verified that both my mac and the Pi see each other on the network.

it's not using safari nor chrome, it's using its own browser.
The only way to get bttv emotes in a chat dock in obs, is to connect your account in settings > stream, and make sure bttv is enabled there

hey, of course 🙂 - but by normal all bttv/7TV emotes should be shown in the chat. at least they were shown in my OBS with windows. and on the mac in chrome with the addon they are shown.

yee yee just checking on principle because none of the emotes in your screenshot are global bttv, so they'd need be manually added to your channel's bttv emotes

in the chat window, click on the cog next to the "Chat" button, then at the bottom of the menu that appears, click "BetterTTV Settings"

The first point I note is the version of OBS running on my m1 mac is not native and uses Rosetta stone, which seems incredibly unfortunate that there is not an apple silicon native version - but perhaps an OBS dev/master wizard would pass along solid reasons for this choice. The second is I have chosen to run BF Companion on a Raspberry Pi 4 w/4GB RAM because it makes sense (to me).

the nature of that issue makes it difficult to troubleshoot; it's a specific peripheral and specific hardware, and user network issues in general are not really within the scope of what we can help with typically. that said, there is indeed a native apple silicon version of OBS; it sounds like you have the intel version because you are installing via the intel version of homebrew. i would probably first try running the app on a different device on your network if you have one available

(to be clear, the native/rosetta issue is probably not relevant here, but it's a good idea to run the native version generally)

you might also want to pursue their (bitfocus's) support channels instead, since the issue is specific to that

I think the reason I focused this issue on obs support was that using Chrome -> Developer tools I could see the login attempt being made to OBS, but OBS did not respond. I might be wrong, and you are right to push back and remind me that you all need to focus on OBS and not 3rd party integrations.

Hey folks! I've got a usecase, but not sure if obs can do what I want.
I have an aja io4k, cabled into a blackmagic video switcher.
My need is to grab specific sources and send out on multiple aja outputs. At the time, I can grab a single source, scene, etc, and send to the aja. But if I want to grab multiple different sources, and send to different outputs, it seems impossible. Hopefully I'm wrong there. Do any of you have experience with something like this? Thanks!

The past 1.5 years, I've been doing 12 hour livestreams of birds and squirrels on my porch. Have never had any prolonged tech issues but for the past 1-2 month my stream has been dropping frames all day and not working as well as it should. I am using a wired connection and attached a picture of my speed test showing 10 mbps upload speed, but in OBS it shows at the bottom anywhere from 50-5000kbps upload speed. I am paying for 20mbps upload speed and have had spectrum over to my house 3 times in past 2 weeks, but am still not getting a solution. Spectrum runs tests and says i am getting 20mbps out of my router, but now my laptop is showing 10mbps and OBS shows on average around 3mbps.

Wondering why this started happening last month. Again, I ran this stream for 1.5 years with no issues but now I am having dropped frames all day and have tried many things to fix but nothing is working. Hope you can help me get my stream back lossless. I had a cat appear on stream last week for the first time and it was dropping frames so I couldnt make it into a nice clip. Was really pissed about that. Going to have Spectrum come again today but wondering if there is any OBS support or troubleshooting step you can help me with.

Using Wifi connection has similar bad connection, so that is not the solution here.

unfortunately i think your intuition is right that it's most likely an ISP/router issue. with certain network configurations, macs will have wifi performance that slowly degrades over time until you reboot the machine, but on a wired connection (and even typically on wifi) that shouldn't ever be a problem

I don't experience these issues recording in the Windows version of OBS with the same device and I've verified I've got the 4K X utilizing the full 10gbps connection in Elgato's utility. I've tried a number of different encoder settings and nothing seems to resolve the problem. The dropped frames are also present in the OBS preview. I'm not sure where to go from here. Hi, I really need some help. I opened my OBS software and got an error saying that I needed to install the OBS-NDI plugin so that DISTROAV will work in it's place. I've followed the instructions on how to find the plugin, but there's no OBS-STUDIO folder in my application support folder. I'm not sure what to do ...

So your voice is coming from the daw in the screen capture source, not the mic source in OBS, so it's of course mixed in.

You will need to find a way to make the daw output two separate audio feeds.

On Windows I know people use Reaper ReStream plugin for this kind of output, is that an option on Mac?

Yes, TikTok will have your stream recording in their Live Center and then go to the Live content and you should find all your previous streams. They keep it for aprox 30 days I believe.

Hi, so a few days ago i was gathering the equitment to play my nintendo on my imac, ( im not using an elgato video capture ). when i open OBS and add my capture card it doesnt show up at all ( my capture card does show up but not my screen ) my nintendo has its lights on so for me thats working, im using a UBS3. 0 capture. 1. In OBS Settings → Audio, set your Monitoring Device to the speakers/headset through which you wish to hear the source audio, then click OK
2. Click the Edit menu → Advanced Audio Properties
3. For each device you wish to hear, change Audio Monitoring to:

• Monitor Off: only hear in your stream/recording
• Monitor and Output: hear through your device and your stream/recording
• Monitor Only: only hear through your device; don't hear in your stream/recording

Note: ensure you use a different monitoring device than any device you capture. Otherwise, your stream/recording will contain an echo.

Hi, new here and not a streamer - just a little old lady gamer. I dug out my old slim PS2 and games and wanted to play it through my Macbook Air M1 as its monitor. Got it set up with an AV capture card but am flummoxed by OBS. I'm told just to create a scene and choose the capture card as the source, but I get nothing - there has to be more to it than that. Hello all. I'm having issues with DistroAV NDI plug in. We run OBS on a Mac Mini and it's always been happy with the NDI source coming from a PC on our local network. Since OBS-NDI is now DistroAV, I followed the instructions to remove the OBS-NDI files from the plugins folder on the mac, installed DistroAV...but when I open OBS it still says that OBS-NDI is deteced and thus it won't load DistroAV and thus we have no NDI source anymore. I've searched the mac and there are no *NDI files ... HELP

Hi all - would LOVE some help...I am on a newer mac running OS 15.1.1 - I have reinstalled, deleted and reinstalled and tried every way possible to get the ALLOW in system preferences to come up - even restarted and fixed that setting to Allow less private software... When I hit Start Virtual Camera I get "cannot find Virtual error message" Anyopne know how to get this to pop up again? In the box "System software from application 'OBS' was blocked from loading", click "Allow".

these I mean... so if I clear and delete the app, I would expect that I would have to redo it again... but they are all saved as accepted

I'm having trouble detecting my GoPro HERO 12 on the latest version of OBS Studio (30.2.3).

All my other devices (second webcam, iPhone via wireless connection, and iPad Air) are being detected without any issues, but the GoPro isn't showing up.

Since I updated OBS three months ago, I haven’t been able to stream using my GoPro, which has been incredibly frustrating.

I’ve ensured that OBS, my MacBook Pro M1 Pro, and my GoPro HERO 12 are all running the latest versions. It seems this issue started with the update, and I haven't been able to connect my GoPro or stream for the past three months.

I’ve reached out to GoPro and Apple support, but neither could provide a solution. I’m now turning to the OBS community in the hope that someone can help me resolve this issue!

When I start an application capture of World of Warcraft, wow fps drops to 5. When I close obs, WoW insta back up to 60. If I do display capture of wow, works just fine. This randomly started happening last week.

It does not require I start streaming to drop fps. Just having an application capture on WoW is sufficient

your encoder settings seem fine. seeing dropped frames in the preview is odd, because the log reports encoder overload, but that shouldn't affect the preview window

it may be a good idea to rule out other sources of lag by trying a software encoder like x264 and seeing if the output looks fine there, and then other hardware encoders (perhaps prores)

Hi, I'm trying to set up a scene to capture League of Legends (a game). LoL has a client and the actual game. I have both the client and the game set up as different sources. The game is in borderless. When the game applications opens, I can see it as an option to be set up as a window. When I select it as a window, it works as intended and the scene shows the game. However, when I close the game (not the client) and open it again, it does not recognise the game application as a window until I manually set it again. This does not happen with the client. I can close and open the client and it remembers the application window.

Hello guys! Excuse me in advance if this is a repeated question. I tried to find an answer using the search function but didn’t had luck.

I was about to sell my Elgato HD60x because the quality of the image is not good when I stream from my Mac.

I’m trying to setup a dual PC configuration for my streams. I’m using a MacBook pro M4 as a secondary computer. The stream quality looks really bad. It seems like it is not 60fps but 30 fps instead.

I thought it was something with the capture card, so I decided to connect the capture card to my gaming PC and stream the captured video from there. The result was a super smooth image and great quality.

When I configured the capture card in OBS in the gaming PC, I was able to select “Match Output FPS” in the Frame rate setting.

However when I do it in the Mac, the Frame rate parameter is red and it doesn’t let me pick anything.

I’m missing something?

just figured out that I was selecting Video Capture Device instead of Capture Card Device as the source. After this, it let me select the FPS.

I've just stumbled upon an issue while using Messenger on Mac. Yes, it is an appropriate thing to mention as that has something to do with OBS. Normally there were no issues with video on Messenger as it was defaulted to the inbuilt camera. And that'd be fine until today when for some reason video was constantly being defaulted to OBS camera. Whenever I changed the video output to the inbuilt camera, the settings would instantly (or after a short while) switch it back to OBS camera. That's the first time that's happened to me that Messenger would default video output to OBS camera.

Due to a change in the way Roblox works, OBS Studio's Game Capture source is unable to capture it. As a workaround, please use Window Capture instead:

1. add a new Window Capture source
2. select Roblox from the window list
3. change the Capture Method to "Windows 10"

On Windows 10, you will see a yellow border around the game which cannot be disabled. This is not visible in your stream and can be ignored (use the `!yellow` command for more info).

OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:

1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side

• (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
  3. restart OBS Studio

need some help with color correction/clarity issues, i stream on an m2 macbook air and use an hd60s+ el gato capture card connected to either a nintendo switch or ps5 and my colors seem to either be too dark (as when playing death stranding on the ps5) or really washed out and not as vibrant (as when playing tears of the kingdom on the switch) and im not sure what to do, ive watched several youtube videos about "best obs settings" but none of them seem to correct the color issue, getting some settings screenshots together now

Hi I just got started with OBS. I set up my Gameplay souce and a chat source. The Gameply source has my gameplay that is streaming through a Osee GoStream, spotify, my webcam, the gameplay audio, and my mic.

Once it's all set up I stream and play and it seems to be good.

If I quit OBS and go back the scenes are all still there but the settings didn't stick. The Webcam needs to be repositioned again, I have to delete the gameplay scene and put it back in and reposition it. I think maybe the mic stays ok. It's pretty frustrating to have to basically set the whole thing up again every time I go to stream.

What am I missing/doing wrong here?

your monitor looking different from your TV is expected behavior. you can check the color space settings of your capture card though to verify that it's set correctly

to do that, open the source properties for the device, uncheck "use preset", then you'll want to make sure that your input format is NV12, and probably that the color space is rec. 709. you'll want to make sure you have everything set to a valid parameter for any changes to take effect

and yes, make sure that the color range is partial and not full
