Hi everyone. I've never used OBS, I think I've almost set everything up but I need an answer for 1 "issue" that's mac related I suppose: i'm going to use OBS only to record on Discord my d&d session's. I have discord on(, example, )desktop 1 and also obs opened there. But i'm using also desktop 2 and 3 because of different stuff I need to check during the session. I need OBS keep recording only discord on desktop 1 even if I'm moving on desk 2&3. Is it possible?

Here is my issue: I look like a Red Hot Lobster.

Here are my specs: ATEM + OBS + Sony A7iv + MacStudio M2. (All are running the latest updates).

Details: When using the HDMI out from the Atem unto my monitor the skin colors and overall picture looks great. Yet when I try to use either the HDMI (via a capture card ) or the USB C cable, and bring the feed into OBS and hit the record button, I end up looking like a red hot lobster with a high amount of contrast.

Troubleshooting I've tried:

1- Under the OBS Advanced options I've chosen "Full" as my Color Range yet it yields the same results. (either "Full" or "Limited" it yield the same results)

2- Under the "source" Device option of the capture card and or HDMI feed, I've tried unchecking the "Use Preset" to try and access the following options down below yet under the latest version of OBS they do Not appear.

  • Input format
  • Color Space
  • Video Range

Lastly, to my surprise when running OBS v 30.0.2 and a simple OBSBOT 4k camera running into my M1 Mac Laptop via a USB-c cable both the recording and live feed look great, and those missing options under the "source" device do appear, and as far as the Color Range is concerned, its under "Limited"

On macOS, some older Elgato capture devices may not be supported or require workarounds to use with OBS Studio:

  • Game Capture HD and HD60 are not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the Elgato Game Capture app in full screen, then capture it with a macOS Screen Capture/Window Capture source
  • HD 60S is not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the OBS Link app
  • HD 60S+, HD 60X, Cam Link are compatible with all Macs and can be captured with a Video Capture source. Make sure you are using a USB 3-compliant USB cable or adapter, connected directly to your Mac if possible

Hello! I'm on the struggle bus with video and audio and hoping I'm in the right place for help.

PS5 to Elgato HD60x to Mac M3 Pro to OBS

Video Woes
Image is very fuzzy
1920x1080 - 60hz
60 fps
PS5: HDCP=Off - 1080p
HD60x Capture Card using 10gbps USB-C to USB-C
OBS: 7000 kbps (should I ramp this up? Will it break twitch?) ||
OBS Encoder: Apple VT H254 Hardware Encoder
Rescale output: disabled (same resolution being used)

Audio Woes
Game sound is audible through headphones connected via Chat Link, but faint and glitchy when coming through to OBS.
OBS Audio bitrate is 160, Audio encoder: CoreAudio AAC
Elgato Capture Card Utility is set to Analog
Good news: the mic works!

Hello, i had encountered one Bug again: Sometimes when i switch between the Scenes my whole OBS begins to lag and is after 4-5 seconds for 1-2 Seconds responding and this behavior is an endless loop until i uncheck the visible (Eye) Icon for my Mic in my Sources List. I've checked if some Effects causes this and i switched them off manually one by one. I have one VST Plugin (TDR Nova EQ) an closed it complete. But no positive Effect, even when all effects are disabled / closed the OBS lag begins when i make my Mic Visible.
The Mic Interface is an Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 and is directly plugged in via USB-C.
Even a restart from OBS doesnt help - only when i restart macOS it solved the Problem.

But i am afraid of this happens in the middle when i switched scenes because then i have to restart my Mac Studio and the Stream is failed. Maybe this is a known issues and there is a help / fix for it?

Hi there, I used a YT Video to set up OBS completely, connected it with YouTube, and we are also eligible for streaming on YouTube.

Though if I try starting a stream, it tells me to set up the Broadcast and later that I am not eligible to stream on YT, although that's the case.

Anyone knows what to do here?

Hello, i need quick help on a recording issue ive encountered on OBS after the last update

Can anyone help? I have to record a discord video session on OBS, and the problem since the new update is that, its also picking up noisee from my mic? I only want to capture the Audio from Discord and not capture the background noise from my laptop, previously before the update, i was able to do this smoothly, but now im not being able to do it. If someone can help me, it would be highly appreciated. Cheers 😄

hi, could anyone lend some guidance on setting up obs (shure mv7, sony zve10) with microsoft teams. Hello, I'm finding the way to create multiple instance of virtual camera in my mac OS , are there anyway I can do it ?

my use cases is that I use Android Emulator (coming with Android Studio software) to test mobile application in my laptop
when i do testing I run 2-3 instances of Android emulator which simulate itself as a mobile phone on my laptop
then I can link these android emulator to any webcam on my machine (e.g. real webcam , obs virtual camera webcam)

but since I can create only 1 virtual obs camera on my mac so, my two intances of android emulator cannot have separate camera scene when running test

appreciate if anyone can give me some guidance , i did try to start 2 instances of OBS in my mac but only 1 virtual camera is available instead of 2

I am not sure where to start on this issue so I came here:
I use OBS to live stream my church service but the last 2 Sundays OBS has not been able to connect to Facebook and go live? I am the Pastor so of course I can’t see exactly what is happening since I am up front. I have my two teen running it for services. This past Sunday 21st they noticed problems right away so I was able to try to help as the service was starting. Basically everything seemed to be set right with the stream key and everything but it would not connect to Facebook even after multiple tries and OBS freezing up and crashing. I ended up just closing the MacBook Pro 14” M2 and quickly setting up my phone on the front pew to live stream the service from there solely, which did work but was disappointing. I am not sure where to start but was hoping that someone here might have some ideas and help to get this working again before Sunday. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi.
I have a Canon R50 and are having problems with the audio when connected to obs or directly to restream/zoom.
I have an external mic connected to the camera and it all works great as a stand alone.

The camera is set to streaming via the usb connection.
Video is working great.
But when I record guitar and vocals the guitar ( acoustic ) sounds like I'm playing in water.
Dont get any help from Canon themselves...
Does anybody had this problem?
I use a brand new Macbook Air M3 from 2024.
I have added the external mic into obs as a sound device.
I have tried it with the internal mic in the camera ; same result.
I have tried to record my guitar using the macbooks own voicememo. Same result there.
The mic settings are set to standard, not voice isolation.
Normally I go through a sound interface, but I need to stream from the road in a while and need to figure out how to only use the camera and laptop.

unfortunately, you are not likely to receive a good answer to this question, because neither macOS 10.13 or OBS 27.2.4 are supported any longer.

the best advice i can offer is to try reinstalling the camera extension by removing the file at /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plugins/DAL/obs-mac-virtualcam.plugin and relaunching OBS. if that does not work, you can try the advice here: https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/wiki/MacOS-Virtual-Camera-Compatibility-Guide-(Legacy)

I'm outputting OBS to a local network rtmp server at 1080p. A still frame is fine. A camera is okay. But a moving background, whether a video clip or a siphon stream causes encoding overload and dropped frames. 720p seems to work okay.

Hello all. I'm preparing to buy a mac to use for a few things, including streaming video games with OBS to Discord (found this helpful tutorial https://obsproject.com/kb/video-call-streaming-tutorial, thanks to #faq-and-guides). May consider streaming to Twitch in the future. In your guys' experience, could I get away with doing this with something as low-power as an M1 8/256? Or is it recommended to get something with a little more oomph?

I'm on an M1 Air, 16gb and I get encoding overload with pretty much anything going on. So... go for more than that. Or perhaps, someone may have some advice on how to not get the encoding overload.

I wonder if there's a way to reach "settings" without the controls tab. I would like to get rid of that tab but there's no way to reach "settings" in other way, right ? Hi, I am having framerate issues. I'm not able to select an FPS. Some weird things also 1. I have to recreate the Video Capture Device every time I open OBS. This usually isn't an issue. 2. The issue isn't consistent. Sometimes it outputs correct frames, sometimes not. videotoolbox (the macOS system for the hardware encoders) is not always particularly stable, and it can crash in a way that makes the encoders not usable. the easiest way to resolve that is to restart the machine

It seems like every time I do a recording whether its off stream or on stream the audio does not match up with the video, like when I am talking my voice doesn't match up with my mouth. I have to go in an edit and move the audio around to get it to match up, any ideas on what would cause that? Have a fully updated 30.2.0 OBS and macOS is updated as well

Hello everyone and anyone, question: I’m using at M1 Mac Mini (2020) OS: Sonoma 14.5. So what’s the difference between Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder and Apple VT HEVC Hardware Encoder? I mainly use OBS for recording Gameplay using the Elgato HD60X. If that helps any.

TikTok was able to hear my voice and game when my controller was muted if I unmute my controller then I echo really bad. hey! i'm trying to set up obs to record my gameplay in the highest possible quality, but after trying multiple bitrates, rate control, and encoders, i can't get anything looking "high quality." i have an M2 Mac Mini and would really appreciate some general settings/advice. thanks!

(maybe it is just me overthinking it, but this looks quite lower quality compared to what i would usually see on my monitor playing on my Switch, or any other console. details are lost and its been bugging me for a while. this was taken using the Apple VT H264 Hardware Encoder at a CRF of 20 but i've tried numerous other options like the sofware encoder, using x264, and multiple CBR levels :3)

i know youtube has some specific auth integration and i don't know how it works, so it might be worth just removing all of your application data and starting anew, since it doesn't look like you have too many scenes. to do that, you'd:

  1. in OBS, do file->show settings folder
  2. close OBS
  3. drag everything in that folder to the trash

this does mean you will have to add your scenes once more. unfortunately i don't know what exactly youtube does behind the scenes with its new integration so this is kind of scorched-earth

as far as OBS is concerned, it is successfully connected to youtube and outputting frames without drops, from appearances. so this looks like an issue with the service. you may need to contact youtube's support, if that exists, unfortunately, since i don't know what could be wrong on the OBS end

it doesn't appear if you use apple's designated picker with its own UI that takes over your screen, but their picker currently lacks important functionality and its UX is fairly incompatible with OBS, at least with current designs. so we'll probably be dealing with this lovely box for the next year

  • Monitor Off: only hear in your stream/recording
  • Monitor and Output: hear through your device and your stream/recording
  • Monitor Only: only hear through your device; don't hear in your stream/recording

Note: ensure you use a different monitoring device than any device you capture. Otherwise, your stream/recording will contain an echo.

Im in need of understanding why and how to get audio coming from my ps5 through my capture card and into my rode procaster audio mixer. Id like to be able to hear my voice, my gameplay, and everything on my computer. I have all of this working but the audio coming from my ps5 to my headphones connected to my mixer only plays bits and tiny pieces of the ps5 gameplay audio. It sounds very terrible. So when i try and stream on twitch i cant record or hear it correctly. Ive been stuck at this point for so long now. Its had me in a stump for so long and ive tried elgato and i just dont understand what the problem is or how to fix it. Is there a service in person that helps handles these types of issues by paying a fee. Im at the point i just wish i could have someone come over that is a legit streamer and help me with a few qurstions and issue ive been stumped on so i can continue my path on streaming. im desperate at this point and i keep beating myself up each and every day at this point.

Hello,

So I'm on a M1 Mac. I want to do a basic study stream on Twitch i.e. I just stream my cam full screen and overlay it with some timers and other basic UI labels. So I don't play games on the side or something like that. I have an external 4k screen that probably takes some power to run.

Now I just did a first real test stream and it just lags and lags and lags and I'm confused as to why. If I check the activity monitor, it seems like everything is fine and nothing is used a lot.

Now I barely know anything about OBS like software and video codecs etc. to make an educated guess that might be the issue but I must do something wrong because if OBS can't even run such a basic stream on a Mac, then how is anyone able to use OBS on mac? -> I must do something wrong no?

Is there a guide like "Setting up OBS for mac?" or something?

Also: Here are my video settings. I can't really change the base canvas resolution because somehow my cam is always 4k apparently. I set the base resolution to 1920x1080 so there is now scaling and just streamed like that (which is bad because it only shows a part of my cam) and it still lagged the same amount.

Not new to streaming (was using ECamm Live Pro) but have haven't fully configured OBS Studio before now. I'm having the common built in webcam recognition issue. Devices like my Rodecaster Pro are recognized for audio purposes, the beta Screen Capture is recognized and I have confirmed that 'Access granted' for the camera'. I've already re-installed OBS,have the current version, and have checked security settings and possible background use of the camera by other applications. I do have Camlink and other video capture external devices which are recognized by OBS Studio but it would be handy to be able to just use the built in webcan at times. Any advice? My Macbook Pro system details are attached.

you'll want to add a filter, likely color key or possibly chroma key. if you're a very beginner i would also recommend taking a look at one of the many decent intro guides to OBS to get familiar with the basic functionality

Hello everyone - I'm having a bit of difficulty setting up some transitions properly.. was wondering if someone had some advice on how to solve this..

I have a few scenes set up that jump between different desktop displays. I have put my camera feed with a picture frame in the bottom corner and made this a group.
I have set up hotkeys that allow me to bring the camera's group on and off the screen.
I also have hotkeys that allow me to turn on and off the frame around the video, just leaving the camera feed.

I made some transitions on the group first - which affect the whole group turning on & off.
I then made individual transitions on some layers in that group to affect the frame appearing & disappearing.
My issue is that all those layer transitions now clash with the group transition.. only for the show.. not the hide.
When I hide the group it has the original effect, but when I show it, it has the effect of the layers mixing in too.

Yes, it's supported. However, there aren't many Syphon Servers - specifically, SyphonInject does not work anymore. For "Game Capture", use the "macOS Screen Capture" source.

It seems like every time I do a recording whether its off stream or on stream the audio does not match up with the video, like when I am talking my voice doesn't match up with my mouth. I have to go in an edit and move the audio around to get it to match up, any ideas on what would cause that? Have a fully updated 30.2.0 OBS and macOS is updated as well. Hello everyone. I’ve been trying to work my way through OBS on my MacBook because I’m trying to stream YouTube videos on Twitch (I have permission). The main problem I’m running into is the audio. I can’t find a way to only have the audio from the YouTube videos play without having my mic/aux on. Anytime I keep my mic/aux on, you can hear the background noises on the Twitch stream but then when I mute the mic/aux, you can’t hear the YouTube video on the stream. I’m only trying to have the YouTube video audio on the stream. Is there a way to fix this? Someone please let me know. Thanks!

When I stream I hook up my macbook to an external monitor. Macbook screen and external monitor are mirrored but obviously they've got different resolution. The macbook gets higher resolution when it's mirrored to the external monitor.

Hello dear OBS community. I've been using OBS successfully for a while, but a few days ago a strange problem arose. I use OBS for Google Meet workshops. I launch UBS and everything is fine. Another question lol, is there any way to make OBS streams on MacBook less laggy? I did my first one and it was hella laggy. Anything I can buy or do to make it less laggy?

Hi, when I record my gameplay with quicktime player (the default recording app for mac) i can hear my moue clicks, but when I record using OBS (using the same mic) I cant hear my mouse clicks. Someone pls help me

Hello. I’ve uninstalled OBS and restarted my Mac and still see the OBS logo in FaceTime.

I tried 3 ways. And installed it again in between.

  1. Dragged it to the trash. Didn’t work
  2. Used AppCleaber. Didn’t work.
  3. Dragged it to the trash and manually deleted OBS files I found in the library. Didn’t work

hmm, ouki, appcleaner will deffo fail to uninstall the vcam, but normally, dragging it to thrash should work

I did a stream and it was super laggy, even my viewers said it was. If there is something i can buy or do to make it less laggy when I stream, it would be greatly appreciated if i could get help with that

Can you restart OBS, stream what you usually stream for a minute or so, stop stream and do the same?

My first guess will be that your hardware is just too weak
