The answer is dependent on what options you chose when you ran the wizard. If you chose a 1280x720 or 1920x1080 output, for instance, that's a lower resolution than what most MacBooks support
And then, if you set it up for streaming to Twitch, you may not be able to choose a higher resolution because of Twitch's bit rate limitations
It all depends on the options you choose, so I recommend running it again and doing some fine tuning

macOS screen capture's window capture mode has a bunch of problems right now and i can't really recommend using it
sometimes it works, but it generally performs badly, and recently this freezing issue has cropped up again, which is an older problem that seems to have returned recently
the game should show up fine with application capture, can you provide more detail on that?

i put league in windowed mode and the application capture worked i think let me revert it and try but the first picture is with application capture ( i don tknow if when i load in a new game it will work havent tried that yet will do that now) and the second is with window capture but it doesnt work when i load into a new game ( both have league in windowed mode )

OBS should work fine with application capture and the game in fullscreen. however, when you tab into OBS, the game won't be visible, because it's on the other display "space", and application capture only shows what's presently on the display for that application

the black bars just mean the aspect ratio of your canvas is different from your source
it's up to you to decide how to deal with that. if you want that size canvas, you can check if league has resolution options that include that aspect ratio
if you want to resize your canvas to be the same size as your display or the league window, you can do that in settings->video

Ok, I have been having an ongoing issue I have corrected once and have not been able to correct now. I use EvMux and I use OBS’s virtual camera to put myself behind a virtual desk in my scenes. I had this issue I am about to discuss once before and I set my MacBook Pro back to factory settings and it fixed the problem for about 3 months. I did it again when I was having this same issue and no luck this time.
I use a Zoom Livetrak L-8 as my audio interface for my mics. When I have OBS open my Zoom Livetrak L-8 is not recognized. When I close OBS it is then recognized by everything, Loopback as well as EvMux or Streamyard if I am on someone else’s show. Open OBS again, the Livetrak is not recognized. What is the reason this is happening. I have used another interface that is broken and that one is recognized. So is there something I need to do with the Livetrak L-8 to fix this issue or something in OBS that is blocking it from being recognized. Keep in mind I use a MacBook Pro and not Windows.

I have just recently found out about being able to use my macbook as a monitor for my ps4. I have my hdmi connecting to my ps4 and my video capturing device, and that is connected to my laptop. I have downloaded OBS and have followed all the steps as seen on a youtube video. I have selected source and then video capturing device and selected USB Video for device but nothing shows on my screen. Can someone help

Have you disabled HDCP on your PS4?
Also, video capture cards and OBS Studio are not designed for acting as a monitor. Because of the processing they need to do, there will be a slight amount of lag added by both of those. This will result in significant input lag, which may make a lot of games unplayable.

i'm not 100% sure that will fix the issue either, that's just my first guess when i see 1. rosetta is on 2. it's deep in CEF and 3. the stack trace is messed up. if using apple silicon OBS doesn't fix it, might need to clear your obs-browser cache. i'd test it whenever you're able and come back if it's still broken

Hey all, im sure theres already a solution to this problem i just haven't found it yet, i recently discovered OBS and downloaded it to give it a shot, i got as far as setting up and configuring my mic etc, I closed the app and when i reopened it, it gave me this message; "You Can't open the application "OBS" because this application is not supported on this Mac. Just to be clear i downloaded OBS whiile being on MacOS Big Surr.. after realizing it wasnt opening i tried reinstalling and nothing, tried updating to MacOS Sonama 14.5 still nothing.. hi there, trying to set up a scene and capture a window from the program "classroom maestro". It shows a piano keyboard where the keys are highlighted when i play the midi keyboard connected to the computer. The keys highlight fine in the program itself but not in the window capture on OBS

Hi, all. I wanted to run something by you. What we're trying to do at my company is connect the raw feed of a Zoom meeting directly to OBS as a Source, instead of window-recording the window. We want to connect the raw Zoom feed to our overall 24/7 live streams.
How can we go about doing this? I know setting up our own RTMP server and sending the Zoom feed to it is one method, but I'm trying to see if there's a way we can do it without hosting another external server (to cut costs etc.).

Hi, I started using obs this past week using an elgatohd60+. I was able to record everything smoothly but the audio output capture stopped working. The audio output capture option started appearing in the "deprecated" when selecting a source and also was given no option anymore. Like i said, It was working one day perfectly but the next day it stopped and was no longer even an option. Ive tried checking permissions, unplugging everything and reinstalling the application. Any help would be great, thanks! (Also, after issues with game audio capture, I checked streamlabs, which was able to detect and record everything. only problem being the video quality was not the greatest compared to obs)

Hi! one quick question of obs with mac mini (2020 m1), when I start the computer and open obs and stream everything work fine, however later(lets say next day after I already closed OBS), if I do not turn off the computer and open OBS again, all stats go to red, rendering in lag, fps, etc. basically the machine is like it can not handle it. If I restart the computer and try obs it work correctly, it is good to mention that without obs, everything works good and nothing is really using the CPU. Hi all. Just fired up my older macbook pro. 8-core intel i9. I have Monteray (12.4) on my system, and the latest OBS< however when I go to add the source, there are no options for mac.. I have this running on my smaller macbook pro which has the latest OS for mac and no issues.
Done some digging, but all m y settings are correct; ie: all privacy settings allowing access to mic/screen/ full accesss

once you check that link and follow the instructions to revert the third-party camera plugin, you should be good to go. I was able to use my Sony A1 yesterday for recording so I’d like to think you’re good to go.

Okay, this looks fairly simple. You should rerun the auto config wizard which will set you up with the hardware encoder which alleviates strain on the CPU, making for a smoother image

hello, i have a problem, firstly im using "Macbook Air M1" my first problem was i cant set my "NZXT Signal 4K30" capture card to 1440p at obs, maximum was 1080p, and can't choose any fps value, after that i tried some versions and version 30.0.0 is worked well
second problem is about audio, OBS can't get audio correctly from capture card, it can get talking noices but can't get any musical instrument sound or any sound effects, it is glitching, i can't find any stable version, do u guys know any?

@pseudo warren @dreamy kestrel @gloomy tree @silent sinew I too am having issues with Game Audio and Elgato (HD60X) - I can capture desktop/mic audio without issue, but game audio (HD60X) is stuttering and distorted. It's something that was historically working, but more recently has begun failing.
I have been trouble shooting the issue for some time with Elgato Support, and they currently seem as confused as us all.
In short as @pseudo warren states, the issue is not present in StreamLabs (yuck) and I have been trying to find a work around as I much prefer OBS and the lighter load this offers of CPU and memory.
At this point I have tried numerous work arounds from Elgato, non of which seem to work. I have OBS log files and screen recordings to highlight the issue - also shared with Elgato) if anyone can take a look. We have deleted and done clean installs for both OBS and Elgato software and have even gone back to early OBS V29.X but so far they are not providing any workarounds or fixes.
Would appreciate any intel from the broader community as right now I'm at a total loss.

I can't say for sure, but given i feel this was a recent issue it maybe something that has crept in. I have been used OBS for a few years without issue, but only recently did this start occuring. Looking back through this channel there does seem to be a few posts relating to game capture audio issues.

not sure. with cheap cards like that it's commonly an intermittent issue with the card. i would try standard steps like restarting your machine and disconnecting and reconnecting the card

It's funny you mention it as a global setting as the other week i was trying to use the DoF or Apeture setting from the task bar for face cam and while it looks great I can't use it as it blurs the game capture LOL - Again i had no idea it was global till now. Hello all! Came here from Reddit. When I screen record videos that are usually higher quality, I get insane frame drops throughout. It’ll be smooth for 20-30 seconds, then severely dip and get choppy for 10 seconds, and then catch up and look normal for another 30 seconds. When I watch the actual video playing on YouTube in the browser, this isn’t reflected.

I record voiceover in Logic Pro simultaneously while screen recording for the type of content I do. Just wondering if it’s as simple as an underpowered machine, or if I’m missing something in OBS. Can someone give me OBS settings for MacOS OBS that make your recording smooth but not lag my game out? I have settings that I got from getting help like a week ago and it works well but it drops my game frames from around 500-600 to 150-250 (game settings are already optimized to the max for best fps).
It doesn't have to be really good, just settings that work (meaning it looks decent and you can tell what's happpening)

theres a problem in that it shows it as an intel app which on silicon is supposed to have an option to open with rosetta but I dont see that option

in case you didn't solve this, you should always run OBS from the root /applications folder. macOS can quarantine an application if it hasn't been moved since being downloaded, making it unable to update itself. if you've already done that and you're seeing the error, let us know and we can look at it more closely

i have an old 2012 macbook pro with a new SSD and 8gb of ram added.
i have OBS 24.0.6 installed because i can’t install the new MacOS so im on 10.15.7 and i think that’s the most i can update this laptop.
when streaming, I want to be able to hear my music playing on spotify thru my headphones and also so my viewers can hear it too, while streaming using OBS.
i have blackhole 2ch and iShowU audio capture both installed. i’ve also got a multi-output device set up.
i cannot for the life of me figure out the configuration of what audio devices are put into what inputs and using the properties and the audio mixer and what devices need to be assigned.
i am so close and ive stumbled my way thru it a few times and ive managed to make it work, but then my audio is muted when i stream even though the audio mixer shows input or sometimes the music coming thru my headphones the quality will go WAY down sometimes and idk why?
idk, im so close but with my device restrictions due to its age, ive had to find a bunch of workarounds and now im lost in the sauce. 
i can take screenshots or answer any questions needed for reference. i’ve looked at so many different reddit threads and other posts on OBS and i still can’t make sense of it.

Anyone here stream from their ipad pro to a pc? Got an ipad pro m2, looking to stream the screen to a pc. I have a usb hub with an hdmi port, would that be enough or do I need one of the fancy usb hub capture cards like elgato or shadowcast?
The reason I ask is because there is a streamer that uses a usb hub called "PingPro USB-C Gaming Media Hub" which doesn't seem to be the standard "capture card" and is able to stream from his ipad to his pc. I own a similar usb hub with an hdmi port that can do 4k60hz and am wondering if I still need a dedicated capture card like shadowcast or elgato or am just confused on the general order of how I would get video from my ipad to my pc so I can manipulate it with obs, etc. My current laptop only has a usb 3 port. Does it need to have an hdmi port or usb c or?
Basically I want to stream from my ipad to my pc to obs, but I want to keep using the ethernet port on my usb hub while also streaming to pc. How would I go about this?

this is the right place but maybe you could describe what you're trying to accomplish, I'm guessing you want to key out the background, right? are you using a chroma key or color key filter on the video?

instead of chroma key, have you tried 'color key'? that might work better. maybe give that a try, and show me a screenshot of what your settings are

What program is that you're using that lets you adjust the image? It seems it's a separate program from OBS, and I guess it's not saving the settings properly or something

Does anyone have any feedback on how OBS performs on the latest MacOS?
I mainly use OBS to record gameplay with the Elgato HD60 X, currently running on macOS Monterey (version 12.3.1), and I am running OBS 30.0.0
I have not upgraded OBS or macOS yet because I don't want to run into any issues (and this version has worked really well for me so far), so if anyone can confirm their experience to be positive on the latest macOS and OBS, I would greatly appreciate it!

Hello everyone ! I am trying to stream (and record) sound from a Pioneer DJM-750MK2 mixer with my macbook. I installed the drivers and got the macbook to recognize the input (active sound) from the mixer, (P.S.: via USB) and even record it using Rekordbox, but unfortunately not OBS. In the DJM-750MK2 settings utility I set both USB 1/2 and USB 9/10 to REC OUT, the others to POST CH.. Fader.
OBS sees the device, I can add it as an audio input source, select the proper device channel, etc., but no sound bars appear sadly...
So here I am 🙂 thank you very much for any input !
P.S.: Issue solved: select device channels 9 and 10 (choosing channels 1-4 or downmixing didn’t work)

Posting again because I never recieved a response. I'm streaming off a Mac M1 mini, and my stream starts lagging out when OBS hits about 16% CPU usage, which definitely seems low. Additionally, when idle, CPU usage is steadily climbing, even when I'm not streaming or doing anything. It starts at about 5% when I open, then over the course of 20 min or so will just climb to like 20%. Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried to download IShowU audio capture but it doesn't seem to show up in midi setup or in OBS, my hunch is it has to do with the version of IShowU that I'm downloading, as it says its for Mojave/Catalina and I'm on macOS Sonoma, wondering if anyone knows how to resolve this issue!

i fixed that issue, macos has an audio isolation mode, u can set it when obs opened, an icon appeared at the upper deck, u can disabled the audio isolation mode

Not file format, but the really high FPS you are recording at. Is the content you are recording from a browser running at 240fps?

Holy cow, this might've done the trick. I had it set to 24 thinking it needed to match my DSLR framerate so I wasn't mixing them up, but think it was just chopping frames at random to even it out. I'll give this a whirl and see how it goes. Really appreciate your time to look into this for me!

basically the permissions window shows that there are still screen recording permissions missing, but the thing is i have already enabled those

sometimes macOS permissions can bug out. try removing OBS from both lists there, and then re-adding it
(only the top list is actually relevant)

i'm using OBS for recording youtube (not livestreaming) with a Sony ZV-1F camera plugged into my laptop. the picture showing up on my laptop (though not on the camera screen) is upside down. it's not an issue with the external camera, bc if i switch to my laptop's facetime camera, the picture is also upside down. what's going on? since i'm recording not livestreaming, it's not the end of the world tbh - i'll just flip it right side up when i'm editing. but it is annoying & i'm guessing there's an easy fix.

I have my 15 inch macbook air with an m2 chip i am trying to stream with. I got some help a while ago about the quality and that the resolution should be native in which it is 3420x2214. When you live stream to youtube, it wants 16:9 or 1920x1080, when i stream or record with the output at 1920x1080, it looks really unshaped.

Hey all (cool to see Hikaru here! I'm streaming chess as well, with piano). Anyway, I started my channel; webcam works well, microphone works well. However, Twitch is only picking up my Spotify through the microphone, and that's despite me creating a "+" for macOS audio capture and selecting Spotify as the source. It's showing the volume in the mixing bar of the music responnding, even with the mic muted. Would anyone know why it's not translating to Twitch?

update: I think that I figured out the problem. There's an alert in twitch (exclamation) that I need to install the Twitch sound driver. But when I click install, it sends me to security + privacy, but I've already granted access to twitch/obs in the categories.

Hey, thanks! I finally figured it out and just needed to do everything from OBS and not twitch studio. Now I have another problem unfortunately.... I'm trying to get a template set to display the chessboard while I play, but the board get cropped out if I maximize window or changes if I minimize. Is there a way so that I can use one template for every chess game and it accurately displays the size of the game?

Starting yesterday, I've been having trouble adjusting the FPS of my capture card through OBS. After some troubleshooting, it appears that I cannot change the FPS for any camera/capture device on OBS (the "Frame rate" text is also red, I'm not sure what that means). The FPS on my monitor remains at 60 so it isn't anything on my Switch (what I'm using my capture card for), but it is displaying around 15-30 FPS on OBS. I'm sure there's prob a simple fix and I might be dumb for not knowing what it is but I can't seem to find any similar problems anywhere. Also whenever I restart OBS, I have to reset to default settings on the Capture Card source, then select the capture card again for it to display.
This only started happening yesterday. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

How would I go about diagnosing why I get the twitch error screen when I try to go live? I’ve never had this issue before and the only thing that changed since the last time I streamed is that I updated OBS.

Last time I had the black screen it was fixed by switching to Rational FPS Values, but settings haven't been changed since then.
Today is my last free day to fix this until next week, would be nice to get it all resolved so I can get to capturing gameplay next time. 🙂

not sure exactly what's going on then, the device might have been set to an invalid configuration somehow. you can try adding it as a video capture device and modifying the parameters there and then seeing if the feed appears for the capture card device

we may also want to check and see if you have the issue recording a source type that isn't a capture card
perhaps try removing your capture device source and adding something like a macOS screen capture source and creating a recording, then post another log

This system worked perfectly fine when I was using Game Capture HD and an El Gato HD60, only had this issue as soon as I upgraded to a Game Capture Neo. :/

The issue is ongoing. As long as there's a video source coming through OBS it's laggy.

i haven't seen any evidence that the issue is caused by anything OBS is doing, and it's somewhat infeasible for us to remotely debug general issues with your machine's performance
i would recommend looking at system activity while you're seeing lag in OBS and isolating potential sources of it, but unfortunately that's again not something we can easily help with

on that version of OBS and macOS, you will need to use discord in chrome for the virtual camera to appear

I need help. I want to uninstall the OBS Vertical Canvas plugin. But I can't find where the file is to delete it. I have searched as well as I could, but I really can't find it anywhere. Is there a way to uninstall it, for example, via the command line?

in OBS you can do file->show settings folder, then navigate to the plugins folder, and it should be installed in there
or if you really wanted to use the command line open ~/Library/Application\ Support/obs-studio/plugins
uninstalling is just a matter of removing whatever files the plugin stores in that folder (usually)

Hi guys, I’m trying to install LiveSplit One into OBS - I’m on livesplitone.org, have created a custom segments/splits timer, but when I integrate it into OBS, the customization doesn’t follow.
I’ve been researching for hours this morning trying to sort it, and this is my last resort.
I’ve read a need for a Custom CSS, however, I can’t see how to arrange it or where.
If anyone out there is able to help me sort this out, I would be eternally grateful 🥹 😌
