Fine, use that
ok
It's very performant
ok
want me to record another 2 minute video and post the log with the right settings now?
Sure
ok
Remember to keep Roblox windowed
ok
Then after about a minute, make it go full screen
If you didn't go fullscreen partway through, that's fine
Don't forget to remux your video if you didn't change to Fragmented MP4
Also, delete all the failed recordings, they're taking up space
Hello, would anyone be able to help me out? I don’t really know what else to do
Welcome to the OBS community support channel. If you have a question, go ahead and ask it, and if someone is available to help they'll respond. Try to be detailed, and provide a log if you are having issues with streaming/recording (Help -> Log Files -> Upload Current Log). Please be patient if someone doesn't respond right away!
So I just recently got my capture card and have it connected to my computer via USB 3.0 and to a second monitor which is connected to the capture card along with a second monitor. When I go to OBS to set up the stream settings I can get the camera feed to show up, however I cannot get the second monitor to show up on OBS in any way. I’ve been at it all afternoon and don’t know what to do.
what device are you trying to capture via the capture card specifically?
That would be my old PlayStation 2 slim. I have it connected to the monitor via AV to HDMI, and in turn the monitor is connected to the capture card via hdmi
right so, you can't capture a monitor with a capture card. a capture card captures output from a device like your playstation directly
what type of capture card is it?
This is the capture card I currently use. From all the videos I’d watched and from the directions of the card itself it looked like using the capture card with the monitor is possible
it looks like that has HDMI input and output, so you ought to be able to get the signal to your monitor still
but the order of operations must be: PS2 -> capture card, and then capture card connected to your machine via USB and to the monitor via the HDMI output
So I’m using the iMac desktop in where the monitor and machine are together so my setup was PS2/monitor/Camera -> Capture Card -> Desktop
Basically how it is on the lower image in the photo of the little booklet that I sent
I also tried just putting the hdmi connected to the console straight into the capture card as well and didn’t get anything there either.
the hdmi output on your card is just that, an output. it outputs whatever you are putting into it
you cannot capture multiple devices with your card
That is a bit confusing. However I’ll give it a go with just the console on the input end
Okay. This is where we’re at currently.
Console -> Capture Card -> Desktop
Still a blank screen on OBS when selected USB 3.0 connection for source.

looks like it's found your capture device fine. can you connect the output on your capture card to another monitor and verify that it's outputting a signal?
I only have the other monitor I was using previously to try and capture from but I thought you said you couldn’t capture a monitor with a capture card?
Ah okay, so i got it to show up on the screen now it looks like
you aren't capturing the monitor. you're capturing the PS2. the PS2 might need an actual monitor on the other end of the card for it to appropriately output a signal, however
I switched the port it was in, and set the settings to this
I may have misspoken, this is what I was doing originally, I had the console connected to a monitor which was connected to the card

i don't know what you mean "running it through the monitor"
you cannot capture a monitor
what is your exact signal chain that isn't working that you're expecting to work?
I don’t understand what you’re asking
what is the exact path from your PS2 to OBS? what is connected to what?
a picture is fine, if you can see everything
I just want to play the ps2 on the second screen that I have while still being able to stream it
so put the PS2 into the capture card's HDMI input. connect the capture card's HDMI output to your second monitor. connect the capture card's USB output to your machine running OBS
is that not how you set it up when it was working? what was the issue?
That was not what I tried, let me give that a go
Okay, THAT got it going
Oh my stars that was a lot
Now I just have to get the camera involved and that’s that.
Thank you so much for all of your help man. I genuinely appreciate it.
you're welcome! glad you got it sorted, hopefully you roughly get how it all works now
I hope so, thanks to you i've got the bulk of it down. It looks like i'll have to pick up another capture card though so I just placed a small order and it'll hopefully be here by tomorrow. That took way longer than I wanted it to for just the first half 😭
I basically have to run the console through the capture card and connect it to the monitor through the capture card. and i'll have to run a similar process for the camera it looks like as well. But since there's no output I can just use what I have and don't have to get an extra cord
Hello, I am just having issues with screen recording not capturing the audio from laptop/monitor
Zoom Workplace, OBS virtual camera freezes and stops working completely. If I start a new meeting OBS virtual camera is no longer an options in Zoom Workplace. Run macOS Monterey v 12.7.4 and OBS 30.1.2
Are you able to upgrade past macOS 12? macOS 13 onwards has a new virtual camera that works much better.
You can't add what, sorry? I don't understand
Microphone
One is already added by default. Do you not see it in your audio mixer?
It doesn't look like I can. I'm on a MacBook Pro (13in, 2016, Thunderbolt 3 ports)
What kind of mic?
I see. What kind of Mac do you have, what year, and what size?
Not all Macs have a microphone port
Ah yes, those only go up to macOS 12. On older versions of macOS that can't use the new virtual camera, our advice is to use the virtual camera through Google Chrome rather than in applications.
i.e. access your Zoom call in Google Chrome
That doesn't answer my question
Actually, maybe it does. Looks like a MacBook Air
I’m using 2017
Gotcha, let me see
It’s connected to mac but not able see option in obs
It's the second one
Actually, ideally, leave it on Default
It will use whatever System Preferences uses
Don't use the Zoom app? Use Zoom in my google chrome browser?
Okay, just tried it and I'm running into the same issue. The OBS virtual camera froze and when I started a new meeting with Zoom in the browser the OBS virtual camera options is not available. And the browser Zoom is really lagging.
Hmm, even after a restart of the computer?
hello i have a hd60 s capture card but i cant find it on the obs list so i can stream
Did a restart and it seems to be working, now. Thanks for your help, Feets! I really appreciate it.

On macOS, some older Elgato capture devices may not be supported or require workarounds to use with OBS Studio:
- Game Capture HD and HD60 are not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the Elgato Game Capture app in full screen, then capture it with a macOS Screen Capture/Window Capture source
- HD 60S is not compatible with Apple Silicon-based Macs. On Intel-based Macs, use the OBS Link app
- HD 60S+, HD 60X, Cam Link are compatible with all Macs and can be captured with a Video Capture source. Make sure you are using a USB 3-compliant USB cable or adapter, connected directly to your Mac if possible

by installing the runtime, do you mean the installer? for that i only click through and install it as it is

yes and i just found an error during installation! thank you for highlighting this! the plugin is now installed 🙂
hey sorry I'm picking this back up from a couple of days ago, here's the full read out for the web utility from the terminal
gotcha. so, canon has to provide a system extension themselves for their camera utility to work on macOS sonoma. judging by that output, their system extension is not installed on your system
i have heard that in some regions, canon has updated their utility to provide the necessary system extension
in any case, the version you have does not have that system extension
so you'll need to wait for canon to update their utility or seek out a version that has the system extension
hmmm okay I'll have to reach out to canon
indeed
that should work as well, yes
hi guys! I don't know if it's been talked about here before, but I'm new to this channel. I use a Mac with Apple Silicon m1 and the elGato capturers (camlink4k and HD60+) capturing PS5 lose the sound every few seconds... any suggestions? It works perfectly on streamlabs. thak you

can someone help me add easyworship to obs on a separate computer.
We have a window computer running EasyWorship and my MacBook Pro running obs, any idea how to add EW to OBS?
ping me pls!
Question for Mac - if I use the "BIND IP", does that mean everything "IN/OUT" of that obs instance will be via that bound IP? like if I'm using NDI to pull stuff in, and then OBS to encode out to whatever?
Which service? I’m using mux for streaming and pulling in vision/audio over NDI.

Remuxing allows you to copy video and audio from one MKV/FLV to another video container format for use in players and editors that do not support MKV/FLV. This process is safe, lossless, and takes seconds.
To remux any recordings made with OBS Studio:
- In OBS Studio, click the File menu → Remux Recordings
- Click on the … (three dots) button, then select your MKV or FLV file
- Click on the Remux button
Thank u so much

sorry to bother all so early! but i’ve been having some streaming problems with OBS. I have a macbook pro 2020 and my stream and connection before i start stream, is fine. but once i start it begins to lag and sometimes skip audio. I am using a cheaper capture card currently for my switch to my mac and to my tv. I just want the lag to go down a bit but im not good with settings or any of this tech yet! if anyone has advice as to what settings could help, id greatly appreciate it!
and even without the capture card when i used to stream, everything would take forever to load or the same problems occurred so i know it isn’t the capture card
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel
@spice saddle If you could follow all of those instructions there, that'll help us pinpoint the issue
sorry don’t wanna sound stupid, but you mean to like actually start the stream correct? as in like a test run kinda thing?
Yes
That's step 2
We need that so we can see what the issues you're having are, in the log :)
i am currently on and so far i’ve had no issues, now im so confused! not even a lag on my computer or the stream!
My computer died haha so i will have to do one later today when i hop back on!! thank you and you’ll recieve a log from me later today!!! it’s early morning here right now🤣

#macos-support Hi everyone! I'm having an issue that no matter what settings I use, I still get dropped frames, so much so I can't go live and haven't been able to for a month. I'm using a mac studio and streaming on youtube. Any help is greatly appreciated!
If your stream is disconnecting or OBS Studio reports dropped frames, follow our Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide for details on how to reduce these issues.

Did you add an audio input capture source, pointing to your capture card?
Secondly, make sure you don't have a headset connected to your Xbox because that means no audio is going out over HDMI so the card would have nothing to capture
Hello,
I would like to know if my Macboock air is compatiblewith OpenGL 3.3? Here are the specs: Macos big sur, version 11.6.7 (20G630), Macbook Air retina, 13 inch, 2018, 1.6 GHzDual-core Intel core i5, 16GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 Machintosh HD Intel UHD Graphics 617 1536 MB.
Thank you in advance!
I think I did, I’ll send a picture soon. My headset is connected to my Xbox, is there a way for me to connect my headset to my Xbox and have the capture card and obs service capture the audio from my headset?
With a cable similar to an Elgato Chat Link, yes
Yes
@neon lily Thank you a lot!
This is my Audi input capture
Is there a way to capture all audio (my headset connected to my Xbox, and the audio in my Xbox party) using the obs project without getting a different cable?
For some reason it only capture my friends audio. Sorry for all of the messages I am brand new to this.
you could try adding another audio input capture and capturing your voice using your macbook pro's built-in microphone. if that isn't satisfactory, you will need another cable or solution like the chat link

Hi
I recently downloaded an obs plugin "Teleport" on my mac
When I opened the folder for it, it showed me two files
One was install.command
Other was obs-teleport.plugin
I tried copying the plugin file into the plugin folder of OBS, but once I did, OBS just wouldn't open
It wouldn't respond
Only once I deleted the file would it open normally
😭
So upon further testing, strangest thing regarding the Preview Window looking like 30fps instead of 60fps:
If I enable PORTRAIT MODE on my Webcam, the framerate of the Preview Window smooths out to 60 again on screen.
Damned if I can figure out why.
(also you'd think it'd be the other way around)
I want to be able to use my Sony a7III as a webcam to record talking head videos and tutorials ( via screen share). I want to be able to record both video feed and screen share, seamlessly but most importantly, getting the best video quality from my camera.
When I record videos via OBS, the video from camera is super grainy and I know I'm not getting the full 1080p/4K.
Set Up
I've been using my a7III as a webcam via;
- Micro-HDMI to HDMI Cable + HDMI Video Capture Card
- into my Mac Mini M1
I also have a TetherPro USB Type-C Male to USB Type-C but when I plug both (Tether PRO and Micro-HDMI) in at the same time, there's no feed.
It's only when I leave the Micro-HDMI in that I get a feed to my computer (OBS, Loom, etc.). Confused because when I use the Tether PRO I can open up Image Edge Desktop and see the feed in 4K.
But when I open other programs, the camera doesn't show up in the options (I can only see USB Video, OBS Virtual Camera and my iPhone [via Passthrough].
I want to be able to use and record videos (and screen shares), with OBS using my sony a7III.
I've made a post on the forum with further detail and a video sample: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-preview-window-set-to-60fps-looks-like-30fps.174923/
Turns out laptop mic is fine. It was being effected by the "voice isolation" magic
Any clues as to how to get NDI/DroidCam audio glitch free?
hi. i am wondering if there are any ways to have mouse clicks be shown in obs recordings? not mouse pointer, i already have that enabled.
please @ me if i get a response. thanks for any and all help!
so i have a two or three part problem im trying to figure out. one im trying to us obs, in combanation with my xbox seirse s. reason is im trying to run a png program with it
two im currently using apple laptop so im looking for ways to work with this
You would need to use some third party program that puts a graphic on screen whenever you click. I don't know of any, unfortunately.
But OBS doesn't have a feature to do that itself
At the basic level, you need an HDMI capture card
What USB cable are you using to connect the HD60X to your Mac?
It’s hooked into a Caldigit USB3 hub that is USB C’d into the MacBook.
I am suspicious if I’m overloading the hub and will test that next week too.
The Caldigit hub is basically also the port replicator for hdmi-out to my two screens
So, docking station really
Possibly. I do wish the HD60X came with a straight USB-C cable, not a C to A
I’ve got Usb c to c cables in usb3
Maybe give one a shot, directly into the Mac
It’s worth a test. I did try downgrading to 720p on the HD60x and the frame rate was smooth again
Yeah, that's what made me suspect an issue in data transfer.
I feel like it’s an OBS problem tho - because in a Quicktime window it looks fine. It’s only when I boot up OBS does the frame rate drop
Oh, even at 1080p?
Well, I’m not sure if the high setting in QuickTime is 1080 now that I’m thinking of it. The max setting definitely jitters it
But yeah, I’m gonna test a lot of scenarios out. I’ll also post in the OBS forum with results
1080p is the highest resolution, depending on what type of mac you have
I'll have to ch

Do you know how to install a plugin properly on mac?
Because that's where I'm facing the issue- I don't know what to do with a .plugin file.
in OBS: File > Show Settings Folder. That should open a window in Finder. The plugins directory in that folder is where your .plugin files go
I did that.
But, once I did move my plugin file into there, my OBS just wouldn't open.
I'd have to force quit it everytime.
might not be compatible with that version of OBS?
how do I check that?
no idea. But it making OBS hang is probably a sign of that. Probably should check with the plugin developer

I am having issues with OBS crashing when trying to stream Apex Legends.
A crash log is required to investigate the cause of your issue. Please upload the most recent crash log.
- Open Console.app (Located in
/Applications/Utilities). - Navigate to the Crash Reports view along the left sidebar, then sort the table by date to find the most recent crash with the OBS process name.
- Drag and drop the selected crash onto the Discord window to upload the file, or copy-and-paste the report text here.

I was doing a window capture of a video playing from Music/Itunes but with the audio going out to a Tascam Model 12 mixer first and back in to the stereo bus. I think the round trip audio delay is about 8 ms on the tascam. Thing is, some videos would show a strong delay in the video to the audio and others not much at all. Couldnt figure out the factor
its on a 6 core 2018 i5 but I use an external GPU with 8 gb
wonder if there could actually be a delay issue with the E GPU

to rule some things out, could you check if the issue occurs in a clean scene collection?
create a new one with scene collection->new up in the menu bar
then just add your capture card to a scene by itself, and see if you still hit the crash
It still crashes on the new clean scene collection with just my capture card. I am going to just revert back to a previous version. I believe the last version I had installed previously was 27. Had no issues at all and this is why I never update. Thank you for your assistance on this I appreciate it!
before you revert, could you try one more thing? the old video capture source type is still available, it's in the "deprecated" folder when adding a new source
the issue should not occur with the legacy video capture device source
which is why it was kept around, in case of issues like this one
Is this issue happening because I am using an old capture card the Elgato HD60 S+?
oh i didnt even realize there were two capture device sources!
hard to say, i don't think we've seen this particular crash before, so i'm not sure yet what the actual cause is
yeah. there are technically three actually. there is the new video capture device source, the new capture card source, and the deprecated video capture device source
the deprecated video capture device source is the one from the previous version, so like i said it should not crash
so dont use the 'video capture device' source, use the one in the 'deprecated' folder, correct?
you could try both. it would certainly be useful to know exactly on which types it does and does not occur
great thanks. I will test and report back
thank you! and yes the deprecated one is the one that definitely should not crash
and FYI, I am on a dual stream setup so I use my mac to just encode the stream, and my gaming PC to play.
Ok so the legacy capture does not crash obviously, the 'video capture device' crashes and audio from the capture card does not come through for some reason.
well generally you need a separate audio input capture source for audio from a capture card
Yes, I have the Elgato sound capture software installed on my gaming pc to output it to obs
right, i'm talking about in OBS though. you need one source for video (video capture device) and one for audio (audio input capture)
assuming both are coming through the capture card
What kind of problem? I’ve same version and my audio sound like a broken speaker. (Elgato HD60S+ and camlink 4k) i’ve a mac whit M1
My audio sound like a broken speaker too, but I think I have the answer for my case, I desactivated a noise cancelling option on the mic option.
But youre audio? Or game audio? I only have problems with the game audio. And if I disconnect the capture and connect again it works for a few minutes.
this very much sounds to me like your voice isolation mode is on for this input
Im gonna check it, but i never put filters or something like that. And if I disconnect and connect again it works perfectly for a minutes
Sorry I’m away from my Mac but yes I quit the noise canceling option for the mic.
Sorry my English isn’t very good but I’ll send screen capture later
It’s like this
sorry, i should have been more clear before, i thought you knew what i meant when i was talking about voice isolation
No, i though about filters like “compressor” “gain” etc
But thank you so so so so much. 🙌🙌

there isn't a great deal of lag recorded in this log. could you post a clip that shows what you're seeing?
wow. so I just tested this out. when using a window capture of video/media source but routiing audio out to tascam model 12 mixer and back in again there is as much as a 200 ms difference between the audio and video in the output recording
so I delayed the audio input to OBS by 200 ms to fix it
I guess I wont use that method. have to load it as media source. thats what ive been doing anyway
sure
you maybe could try using application capture instead of window capture under macos screen capture. to me this looks like another issue with window capture
it doesnt work.
could you please be more specific? what exactly does not work
when i put roblox in full screen the obs part that shows the thing its recording goes black.
nvm
i got it just right.

wait I think we're OK
i don't see anything there that i would think would specifically affect stream audio (without affecting recording audio). you are dropping frames in that log though, so that would be my first instinct as a possible culprit
also, why would there be an echo?
yea I eas able to fix that
Is there a way to record with OBS so I can have a circle screen of my face for the user when recording on ableton?
Yeah, add a video capture source, point it to your webcam
how do i do that
Yeah, now click OK

Hi, I'm using obs to stream, but for some reason after it's on for a certain period of time, it starts dropping frames. Not just small increments, the dropped frames rack up to the thousands, in a short amount of time. I can confirm this is not because of internet issues, since other programs work just fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled obs. Can someone please help? I can't stream like this.
Hi all. I need help. I’ve started adding sources. Is there a way to put those sources onto the YouTube stream ?
is retina 1440x 900 the problem i have bad video quality? how do i get a retina 1980 x 1980
The sources should show on stream just fine if they are showing in the OBS preview.
Not necessarily. Send a log of a recording session.

Oh, you have them in reverse order
You are using CBR for recording. That's my first clue something is wrong :-)
For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:
- In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
- In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
- Set your Video Encoder to a hardware encoder, if available
Try using the quality presets in Simple Mode
indeed, the hardware encoders really don't like CBR at higher bandwidths. if you must be in advanced mode, since i see you have particular color settings, use CRF around .7 or so
ABR will also perform better than CBR, but CRF performs a good amount better than either (which is what simple mode uses)
thank you all, but that doesn't solve my problem, I think I'll stay with ProRes because it's the best that works.
Is ProRes right for what you're doing?
could you please post a log that shows whatever issues you're still having with HEVC after switching to CRF or simple mode?
Ok
Is hardware acceleration supported???
it is. depending on which mac you have, you have some combination of h264, HEVC and prores available in hardware

For anyone who runs into what I did - not sure what's going on, but OBS didn't like having 2 sources running at 1080p (FaceCam Mk2 and HD60x). Changing either one to 720p got me back on buttery-smooth-easy-street at full 60fps in preview and stream and recording.
Can anyone help me with OBS and whatnot. Everything looks great in OBS. When I open whatnot and select virtual camera my steam is super zoomed in and not reflecting what I see in OBS?

Im sorry i pinged, but i’ve been asking for 2-3 whole days and i need to get a video uploaded.
If anything else needed changing, I would have said so.
Whatnot as in the shopping site? Isn't that geared towards vertical video?
Is your base resolution set up in a portrait orientation? i.e. 1080x1920 rather than 1920x1080
you will need to be more specific. if your recording quality doesn't seem good, post a clean log per these instructions as well as an example clip from your recording. pinging us does not help; providing details helps!

what exactly are you seeing that you're calling bad quality? at first glance that recording looks fine
the one on obs looks 20x better
its showing the same quality on my comuter, it looks good on computer but when i record it looks like worse quality
would that work
can you take a screenshot of your recording settings
i would recommend simple mode, and indistinguishable quality with the hardware encoder

so it cant get any better?
did you set it to indistinguishable yet
yes
technically it can, but if you are still seeing an issue on that quality setting, you need to be specific about what it is
can u tell me what to do to make it better
i just want it better

i cannot give you effective advice on how to make it "better" without knowing in what areas you think it is deficient, no

i think you're just talking about the resolution
you aren't recording at your monitor's resolution, so of course your recording is going to be lower definition than what you see on your monitor

I'm having an issue with my audio capture
QuickTimePlayer picks the audio just fine, but OBS doesn't
From a capture card
have you added your capture card as an audio input capture source in OBS?
I did, but i found out
It's Apple's fault...
You see they have a voice isolation feature for the mic? Well yeah it was working VERY fine
Now it makes sense why the only audio that it picked up were the character's voices
yep, common issue, at least you got it sorted. unfortunately its also easy to end up with it enabled even if you never actually turned it on for that input
don't feel dumb, file an apple feedback instead! 😛

at least one user has had success resolving minor frame stuttering with the HD60x on apple silicon by changing the "input EDID mode" in the elgato capture utility to "display." you may want to try that and report back

honestly looking at it a few times, there are like 2/3 moments where theres one duplicate frame
however, I had this before where a 1 minute recording felt really good, but when I came back a few hours later it was starting to feel choppy again
honestly that recording looks pretty much fine to me, or at least as good as you can reasonably expect
at its core OBS is not designed to capture each and every frame at any cost
oh yeah I doubt anyone would complain. However, I dont want a repeat of the situation when I come back a few hours later and see severe drops again
yeah, if it does return feel free to report back, though i'm not sure what else i can recommend
thank you, because I'm unfortunately here again
its definitely noticeable at 0:50
heya @boreal raven @weary knoll did y'all manage to fix the hd60x stutter on mac m2? I'm currently suffering from it as well
When I scale a source down to a smaller size, it becomes extremely pixelated, beyond what I would expect from a simple loss of resolution, and beyond what I see in other people's streams. For example, when my webcam fills the whole canvas, it looks fine, but when I scale it down to be in the corner of the screen, it looks jagged and blocky, as you can see in the attached image. I can tell that this is not an issue that is specific to streaming or recording, because even in the OBS canvas, I can see that pixelation.
i only see a single dupe here at :51; at :52 i see what looks like an ingame frame stutter rather than a capture card stutter
given their close proximity i would even guess they could be related
hmm
you know whats funny, I bought this card a few days ( second hand ) before the release of elgato neo
so stupid
i wouldn't assume brand new devices are free of issues :p
definitely possible
Right-click on your camera's source and try a different scaling method
That fixed it. Thank you so much.
No problemo
can someone help me idk what to do with the log
You're using the software encoder which is putting pressure on your CPU.
oh ill turn that off
Use the auto config wizard to change your settings to use the hardware encoder
Please run the OBS auto-configuration tool. To use the auto-config, click on the Tools menu in OBS, select Auto-Configuration Wizard, and then just follow the on-screen directions. You can use this tool to get a set baseline settings for your hardware, and adjust as necessary from there.

Huh, you seem to have a window capture and a macOS Screen capture. Just have one or the other.
Same for computer audio, you've got one of those and a macOS Audio Capture source
My recommendation: keep the macOS Audio Capture and macOS Screen Capture
ye ur right
Beyond that, you should also install the Apple Silicon version of OBS Studio. For some reason, you're running the Intel version
OBS Studio can be downloaded:
- directly from the official OBS Project website: https://obsproject.com/download
- Microsoft Store (Windows)
- Steam (Windows, macOS)
- Flathub (Linux)
The top link should be fine
ye im still having lag, u think the silicon versions the problem?
ill install it either way im just wonderin
No, you're running the Intel version
Not running the Apple Silicon version is a minor performance penalty for no real good reason :)
no ye thats what i mean
So be sure to get the Apple Silicon version and replace the copy you have 👍
if i install the silicon version will it just overwrite the intel one or should i uninstall firs
Just overwrite, it's fine
"Uninstalling" isn't really a thing on macOS

Do you have a monitor plugged into it?
Hm, then we could probably stand to reduce the resolution you're recording at
whenever i go to change the aspect ratio the only one that fits is the bigger one. but theres no other option other than that and 1920 by 1080
is there a way to enter a custom one
For the sake of testing performance, I would do this:
In OBS Settings -> Video, set both the base and output resolutions to 1280x800
Reduce the frame rate to 30 (if you're just recording Ableton, it doesn't need to be particularly high)
After that, restart OBS and try another recording. See if that improves anything.
If it does, you can always try going higher and higher with the resolution in steps:
-> 1440x900
-> 1680x1050
ok ill try that rn
thank you for helping btw i appreciate u taking the time
np
hmm, that's not really an appreciable amount of lag either. it's normal for OBS to drop a few frames at the beginning of a recording
if you're seeing significant lag, it may be due to something else
in which case we might want to see a clip

ye i can send a clip
that's 3 dropped frames out of 855
that's not rendering lag
not a meaningful amount, anyway
Making Ableton lag?
ye
cause the frame rate seems to be fine its just the playhead slows down and speeds up
and audio drops out
there have def been times where ive recorded clearly
with more tracks too
the window capture mode of macOS screen capture performs quite poorly in this version of macOS. you may want to try application capture
yeah
Good call
i will do this
So double click on your macOS Screen Capture, set it to Application Capture mode, and then set it to capture Ableton
@forest axle I'm a little out of the loop wrt macOS Audio Capture. Should they have to do the same with that, too?
i wouldn't expect that they should. audio capture uses the display/application paths, and even if it didn't, i've never seen one cause lag the way window capture does
ok it seems like its gotten better but still def lagging a bit and consistent audio drop outs

i don't actually hear any clicks there
Also, I don't hear any clicks
The video sounds fine. I think the program you're playing with is probably struggling to play the clip properly because of everything else loaded
with a DAW you might still need it since they do weird audio routing, but not sure specifically with ableton
hm
in any case yeah, your clip seems fine

Hi gang, I'm using OBS on an M1 Mac to screen record. I was working fine for a while, but in the last ~4 weeks I ran into a persistant issue where I'm unable to stop recording unless I quit the app. Clicking "Stop" shows the "stopping recording..." text, but never stops, even if I let it sit for minutes.
I've tried using the app in safe mode and disabling plugins (I only use 1), I've tried recording to other formats. Nothing has worked so far.
Hm, that one I'm not sure about, sorry.
Usually an errant plugin is the cause but you're saying it even does this when it's disabled, huh?
Yes indeed, and the only one I use is Source Record, which I imagine is pretty common
it's common, but also commonly has issues :p
let's see a log of you reproducing the issue, preferably without any plugins in safe mode, that might reveal something

Hi, today I updated my Mac's OS and since then OBS no longer sees my Sony Alpha 7II. Anyone know how to solve it? I've tried every way I know but nothing. It's definitely a problem that occurs with the update
?
is OBS seeing your other camera devices like the built in camera?
yes
did you require any software or special devices to get the camera to appear as an input in OBS before?
audio monitor
i mean for the video feed
ah no no
i think you need something like sony's "Sony Imaging Edge Webcam" software; i would look into that. i'm not sure what version of macOS you would have been on before that did not require that
this sounds like something abnormal is going on. what are you doing while OBS is open? we should see a log as well:

I'm trying to record my screen. Entire desktop.
But I when I choose my screen or application, it doesn't give me options.
Nevermind! Figured it out! ❤️
Hello, I am not sure what happened with the last update but OBS will not work for me to record my game. There is black space around my screen when I record and the resolution keeps changing from 3840 X 2160 to 3840 X 2204. My TV and game are set to 4K. The base canvas and output size is as well and this has never been an issue until the last update. No matter how many times I edit transform or make changes, there is a black bar at the top that records.
what game are you recording and what source type are you using to capture it?
I am recording the Sims 4 using MacOS Screen Capture. The game resolution is also set to 3840 X 2160. This has worked for over a year just fine. Not sure what happened.
what mode of macos screen capture (application, window, display)? could you take a screenshot of your entire screen while ingame with command-shift-3 and post it?
Window. It actually works with application mode but I like to be able to see the preview and was able to use this until the April 4th update.
yeah. apple basically broke the window capture mode in several ways with recent macOS updates
captures resize themselves in fullscreen and have glitchy behavior and also perform poorly
So is there any way I can get the application to show in preview using application capture?
without the game also being visible onscreen, no
Any hope that this will change with a future update
I recorded several videos not knowing my screen was cut off 😢
got it. still a no go on the grain in the output.
They are exporting at 3840x2160 but the output is grainy.

Yellow was recorded via OBS - exported at 4K but grainy..
it's been reported and i know that the feedback has been received by them, and at least some of it is being looked at. i have no indication of when or whether it will be fixed.
Okay, well thanks for the input. Guess I will have to use application mode until it’s resolved.

Can I multi-stream to different platforms using a different overly at the same time?
Question: I've set the FPS=25 , but VLC shows the FPS as some approximate value, e.g. 24.29 or 24.14. Why?
Hmm, I'm guessing the problem is that I have two different video streams: an external camera at 25 FPS, and display capture at 30/60 fps?
Is it possible to capture the display at 25fps?
Hmm, it seems to be caused by the videotoolbox encoder
using Output/Recording/Type = Custom Output (FFmpeg) produces 25fps
but then using the videotoolbox encoder doesnt produce the error when using ffmpeg... weird

VideoToolbox supports two types of rate control:
Bitrate-based using -b:v
Constant quality with -q:v. Note that the scale is 1-100, with 1 being the lowest and 100 the highest. Constant quality mode is only available for Apple Silicon and from ffmpeg 4.4 and higher.
No, it’s a native implementation
It might just be a bug in VLC that it reads the fps incorrectly.
I see.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here. With CRF I tried setting max bitrate to 50k, and with ABR to 25k/50k:
but it still gives me a low bitrate, e.g. 4026 kb/s

although the video is just recording a still image, so maybe it's just not necessary with a higher bitrate / it's compressed?
I'm finding that the screen recording is slightly blurry, so that's why I'm interested to increase the bitrate.

Bonjour je n’est plus la fenêtre qui indique le temps du live et le nombre de spectateurs quelqu’un pourrait m’aider svp
I'm using "macOS Screen Capture" of an external 4K display, which, due to text scaling, seems to have a base canvas resolution of 5120x2880, that is then Output scaled to 3840x2160...
is there a better way, that achieves sharp text? I mean the display is 4K and looks sharp? So why can't I capture that output?
But I also have a camera source that is 4K... so I'd have to transform it to 5K, then back down to 4K... so I thought to just keep the canvas resolution, to only downsample the "screen capture" once...
if the display is 5120x2880, that isn't 4K. and no, text will not look as sharp scaling that resolution down to 4K, regardless of bitrate; that is the nature of the beast
It's mysterious to me how MacOS resolution works. Because obviously the output is 4K. But perhaps at the application level, it fakes a 5K display resolution?
and then downscales that to 4K output. But as you said, I don't understand how it achieves sharp text when doing that...
the output of what is 4K
my monitor
based on what you've posted, no, it's 5120x2880, which is not 4K
but MacOS shows it as "2560x1440" resolution, which is 5K scaled 200%
macOS shows the resolution in "logical" units as opposed to physical pixels
typically at the default settings, those are 2x apart
it does that in order to abstract the details of display scaling away from how content is meant to be presented
in other words, it's saying that things should "look" 2560x1440, so a 1440p video would open in fullscreen, for example, but the physical resolution is in fact double that
Hmm, if I choose the 200%. 1920x1080 resolution, it's sharp:
i don't know where you're getting the 200% figure. if you've set 1080p logical resolution on a 2880p display, it's probably doing 250% scaling
I just can't understand where this goes wrong:
In OBS?
In "macOS Screen Capture"? maybe the API captures the 5K scaled resolution, when it should have a 4K downscaled output
In playback, when VLC takes a 4K video, and maybe MacOS upscales to 5K, then downscales to 4K output...
I don't have a 5K display
you very much do. i think that that is at the heart of this misunderstanding
5120x2880 is not 4K. nor can it ever be
I just checked my monitor's built-in debugging output, and it says: 3840 (H) x 2160 (V) SDR.
with MacOS set to 2560x1440.
That's why it doesn't make sense to me 😅 I understand why it doesn't make sense to you either
how do i veiw my clips
oh, i think i see
The problem for me is that the "1920x1080" (4K scaled) resolution is a bit too big for me.
But it does solve the sharpness issue.
i was confused because you told me that your resolution was 5120x2880 initially
What I meant was that it seems that MacOS creates a virtual screen resolution of 5120x2880 since the display setting is "2560x1440".
and OBS recognizes that resolution as base canvas "5120x2880"
so I think the issue is with the MacOS Screen Capture API...
or, with the OBS downscaling algorithm being inferior to what MacOS is using
but again, maybe MacOS should just provide the scaled output (4K), not the virtual resolution (5K)
hmm, how are you determining that macOS screen capture is actually giving you a 5120x2880 capture? can you take a screenshot of the source properties?
i'm talking about the source properties, not your OBS canvas properties
Would it happen to say in the logs?
(Not sure if mac screen captures get the res reported in the logs)
can you do the following?
- set your canvas to 5120x2880 per your first screenshot
- add a macOS screen capture display capture to your scene
- select the macos screen capture source and press command-R
- take a screenshot of the OBS window
the only related log entry I found was - source: 'macOS Screen Capture' (screen_capture) ... no mention of resolution anywhere
What is comamnd-R for ? Recording?
recording doesnt seem to add any information to the UI
it just resets the transform on the source, so i can tell what the actual raw size of the framebuffer is to rule out any extra scaling
I see, I usually click "trasnform - fit to screen" after changing base canvas
I did a reset also, and it made no difference to the screenshot
yeah, just wanted to make sure
and yeah. it indeed looks like SCK (the API) gives you the 2880p framebuffer for some reason
thanks for confirming. I was going crazy 😄
you might have some success adding a custom downscale filter to the source
i don't know what method macOS uses specifically to go from 5K to 4K
the API does not give you discrete control over the resolution you get from the system, so there isn't much OBS can do beyond that
I just tested all the 5 filter-scaling modes and they all cause significant blur/quality loss
could you send an example? like a screenshot of text from your display and then a brief 4K clip of the same text via OBS the best you can get it? i would like to see how bad it is
this is using bicubic
and I concude that it's not encoding related, since it looks 99% the same when using 1920x1080 (scaled) resolution
Can someone help me with getting the discord voice chat sound to obs and my stream? What source should I use? I can’t download the streamkit from discord (error message all the time)
OBS Studio 30+ running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Audio Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS and/or OBS Studio, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
and here's the screenshots with 4K resolution (2K scaled)
they're basically identical, so it's not an encoding issue
Oof, that link and the download just gave me a bunch of fake malware alerts
oh sorry, I just googled whatever file service was available, I use ublock so I didnt get any alerts
any alternatives?
you can just drag the files onto this window
i'd also prefer an actual clip of your recorded output at 4K rather than a screenshot of it
for files lower than 100 MB, you can send them here directly
for files bigger : https://send.tresorit.com/
Guys I want to set up OBS on my macbook Intel Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1 and I'm a total noob in using stream OBS... How do I set it up? Please help me out
✨ If you're new to OBS Studio:
- follow the Quick Start Guide to set up your first scene and get streaming/recording
- learn more about the interface in the Overview Guide
- follow the Stream Layout Tutorial series to create a stream-friendly layout, including setting up alerts and a chat box
🎞️ If you prefer to learn with videos, check out:
- our OBS Studio Tutorials video series presented by EposVox
- EposVox's OBS Studio Master Class series
- Nerd or Die's How to Stream with OBS Studio series
I don't wanna stream anything just screen record with audio that's it
So, you basically would need to make a scene, which is your screen canvas, if you will. You'll need to add and insert each element, like your webcam, your content (an application, a window, a website, your whole desktop, etc), and you'll need to ensure your microphone is also added (sometimes that's through your webcam depending upon your setup).
Really, it's about what your setup is, and where you want things
Then take a look at video settings and check your recording statistics, that's where it gets real technical
but just focus on setting up your environment first
So after spending hours on this problem, it seems that:
if I record with a 5K virtual resolution (2560x...)
regardless of canvas size 4K or 5K
with a 4K output
it will look blurry
until I change the scale to 4K (1920x...)
then it looks sharp in either case.
so I conclude that the problem is with how it upscales from 4K video file to 5K virtual resolution
this seems to occur both with VLC and QuickTime... and when having the video file paused in QuickTime, and changing the scaling from a separate monitor... the sharpness clearly changes.
it's only a slight effect, but enough to be noticable by the eagle-eyed...
which is good news: I can record while using scaled resolution... but when playing back, I have to use 4K scale to evaluate the sharpness...
2560x1440 is not 5k, is 2.5k technically
Hey ya'll got a mac OBS + Source record plugin question.
I am attempting to use OBS to record my camera (via Elgato camlink 4k) while simultaneously use the Source Record plugin to capture my 4k monitor (Acer 32” 144Hz 4K). This is happening on am m3 macbook pro. I want to capture both at full 4k res. However, I'm running into an issue where just a few seconds into the recording the camera video gets extremely choppy, and it gets worse and worse the longer the recording goes to 1 fps or even less.
I tried several things suggested online including disabling freesync, changing the refresh rate of the monitor, but does not work.
Interestingly, it works totally fine if I capture the macbook pro screen rather than the secondary monitor.
I thought this might be an issue with just maxing out the GPU, but I tested both on this machine and another machine and the GPU does not have its resources maxxed out while doing this dual capture.
Any recommendations?
yes but it's scaled 2x
The screen capture you showed earlier showed it was 2.5k resolution, so if you add it and then make it 4k or 5k, it will look softer
I also have a new hypothesis, that this is actually a fractional scaling issue with MacOS (just as it is in Linux)... because the more I look, it seems the "1920" scaling is sharper in general, than when using "2560"...
anyway, I give up, and will stick to 1920 scaling :D. sorry for the time wasted!
no. the user has a 3840x2160 display. macos uses a logical resolution of 2560x1440 with it. it scales by 2x, gives OBS a 2x frame buffer, then scales down for the actual presentation on the display
it's convoluted
To help resolve your issue, we need to view a log file from a fresh launch of OBS Studio containing an output session. Follow these instructions to upload a clean log file:
- Restart OBS Studio first!
- Start your stream/recording replicating any issues (meaning having any games/apps open and captured, etc.)
- Stop your stream/recording after 30 seconds or after the issue has occurred
- Click the Help menu → Log Files → Upload Current Log File
- Paste the URL into this Discord channel

Wow, this log checker is awesome
looks like recording two sessions at 4k is just too much for your machine
i would switch either source record or your main output to use x264 instead
(one of the two)
Yeah, I actually just tried switching the source record to use x264, but not it just spits out a zero byte file :/
It's odd, activity monitor does not seem to indicate that my resources are overloaded
the encoder activity doesn't show up in activity monitor
apple apparently did not foresee a situation where you would need to monitor their load or performance
It doesnt count as a part of the GPU load?
As in, activity monitor -> window -> GPU history?
no
as to why source record isn't working with x264, i don't know...might just be a question for the source record dev unforch
or you could do it the other way around (main output x264, source record VT)
is this a Macbook Air? I'm using a Macbook Pro M1 and have two 4K 25fps input streams and output to 4K 25fps (VideoToolbox HEVC)
and the reported CPU load is minimal (like 5%)
hevc is a good amount more capable than h264 too, if that's an option
i don't know what encoder suite exists on the base m3
while recording
again, the encoder load doesn't surface in activity monitor
It does seem to register in %GPU ?
maybe the number isnt fully representative, just a partial increase when the actual number is much higher?
the GPU is more active when encoding, yes. but there is no figure that tells you how much load the actual part of the SoC that performs media encoding is under
that part is not the GPU by macOS's accounting
ok, I'm able to get the source record to work with software enciding. This helped, and will hopefully work out for me.
videotoolbox is vastly more efficient, but it's up to you
like 50fps vs 2fps
(using ffmpeg)
the entire point is that his system probably cannot support two simultaneous 4k sessions. the media engine is much less capable on the base chips than the pro/max/etc
I want to record the whole screen itself and the setup is just as the MacBook no external devices connected
So add a source, there should be a SCREEN CAPTURE choice. That’s it.
I use OBS on a Macbook Pro M3 which was working with my Elgato 4kx, but I accidentally selected the virtual camera while troubleshooting a problem. After I restarted OBS it is failing with a segmentation violation on startup. I have tried safe and normal mode startup, but neither work. I have also uninstalled OBS studio and re-installed. Same issue. I'm new to OBS, MAC OS, and Discord, so if this is not the proper way to ask for help, then I apologize. Any help would be appreciated. to solve this you'll need to remove your scene collection unfortunately. it's been addressed but hasn't made it to an OBS release yet
to do that:
- open Finder
- press Command-Shift-G or do Go->Go To Folder
- paste in the following and hit enter:
~/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic/scenes - remove the .json and .json.bak files for your scene collection out of the folder
Brilliant! Thanks so much for your help!
@forest axle Thanks for your help with my issue. Using a combo of hardware and software encoding works for me.
hello, I am trying to delete my camera from my OBS interface. everytime I click trash and yes when "are you sure you want to delete" the system crashes. I've forced quit OBS from finder and activity monitor. deleted the application. deleted the applicaion from the trash and redownloaded the application. every time I re open the application, even after deleting and re downloading, i get the message"
all my settings still come in with my elgato cam link, camera, and el gato wavelink. but if I deleted the software and redownloaded it how do all my devices still pop up??
the crash when deleting sources is probably because of your stream deck software being out of date. all you should need to do there is update it
if you're still having issues at that point, let us know
I deleted the stream deck application as I sold my stream deck
the plugin might still exist on your system

Stream Deco plugin caused the crash yup
i have been using the NDI plugin for a while but it keeps crashing when i try to remove a NDI source. has anyone else seen this or have a solution?
this is due to outdated stream deck software. if you update, all should be well

sorry, got distracted. looks like you're trying to add the deprecated window capture source
what you want is the "macOS screen capture" source
what does that mean? I am new to this kinda stuff
when you go to add a source, you want to select "macOS screen capture"
how do I fix that? I moved the streamdeck application from my mac to trash and then deleted it from the trash
thank you so much! that really helped.
thank you!!
Hi hi! Am I allowed to show a video recording example of one of my tests? Along with some technical issues, there's this problem I've been having with the program I'm recording; it keeps moving itself from it's original position the moment I am in the program, and I'm not sure why it does this
you are definitely allowed to do that. if i am going to venture a guess, your issue has to do with macOS screen capture's window capture being broken (the resolution for which is to use the application capture mode), but we should see the clip and a log even so
Okay, that's good.
I might upload a log file as well, since I just tried to apply different settings - which my main problem has sort of fixed itself :/
It's only when I need to see the top menu of my Mac does everything lag or even freeze.

yeah, i would try the application capture mode instead of window capture
looks like your capture is resizing itself
it's a macOS bug. we're all patiently waiting for it to be addressed
you'll need to crop and deal with application captures differently. but they won't resize and move themselves around at least
Alright. I'll see how it goes. I didn't realise there was a bug, but best of luck that it does get fixed soon. Thank you for the help!

My mac shut down randomly when I tried to select safari as a source for window recording. I was in fullscreen OBS.
Strange but true
Hello, i've been running into this pixelation problem when recording in OBS. It only seems to happen after recording for 15 minutes or more and sometimes it eventually goes away. It seems to be linked to my keyframe interval as I changed it from 2 to 5 recently and the pulsing happens at roughly the same interval.
I've spent a long time looking for best recording settings etc, I record at 2560x1440 at 60fps. I've attached my output settings.
I'm on an M2 Mac Studio on Ventura 13.6.6
Any help would be great and let me know if you need more information. 😀 (Not sure why the video is download only)
For high-quality, no fuss recordings, use the recording quality presets in Simple Mode:
- In OBS Settings → Output, set the Output Mode to Simple
- In the Recording section, choose Indistinguishable Quality as the Recording Quality
- Set your Video Encoder to a hardware encoder, if available
Ah okay, thanks, is there anywhere that has info on the audio quality formats for the different presets? Bit depth and format?
you can select the audio encoder in simple mode
the different presets of simple mode for recording (high quality, indistinguishable and lossless) only affect video, not audio
Okay thank you, is there anyway to get higher quality audio using this simple mode? I would ideally like to have 16bit PCM or 24bit if possible as I record my microphone through OBS and process it after.
no, for that you'll have to use advanced afaik.
If you want to use advanced, set the rate control to CRF, and the CRF value to 16
that should do it
Okay will give it a go and see, thanks for the help
whenever i finish any screen recordings i cant find the files and when i press show recording it doesn't show anything accept a empty folder

Hi, i have M1 Mac, and i have problem with Capturing video. Sometimes capturing with my elgato capture card works without any problem, but sometimes it dosen't. Shows only a blank screen and that's it. I've tried capturing on diffrent hardware/software and it works. On windows version of OBS i have no problems, but on mac i have this problem. How to solve it? I've reinstalled OBS several times and no luck. I;ve tried with photo booth and there elgato works very well, so it's not my capture card problem, but rather OBS problem.
I've tried to change resolution, no luck
Any solutions?

Need some help please. Trying to hook up my Iphone 15 promax to record vertical into OBS. Switched my video base and output to 1920x1080 and turned on continuity in the iphone settings. When i connect it, it stay in landscape and I only have the option in sources for 1080x1920. THank you eveyone for your time
unfortunately, continuity camera does not support vertical video
so most people add a dslr, a yeti, hook it up to a mac?
people do all sorts of things 😅
if you want to record vertical video with continuity camera, you can still do it, you should just orient your phone horizontally and crop the feed coming into OBS
Hi everyone. I am using MacBook Silicon chip. How can I restrict some apps from being recorded while all other be recorded? I have a Safari, Chrome and One pdf. I want to screen Safari and pdf file while restrict screening Chrome. And when switching to Chrome I want screen recorded to keep screening either safari or pdf. How can I do so? Should I separate desktop spaces and what changes should be done in app?
Hi All, I too am having a problem that id like some opinion on. I was livestreaming over the weekend from a sony 4k camera. I was using a Magewell USD capture card Gen2 and I was hard lined into the internet. Everything was working completely fine until I pressed stream through OBS. As soon as i pressed stream the picture immediately went out and I couldn't get it back until i completely closed out of OBS restarted my computer and reopened OBS. I got it working again and went to stream another performance and IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I had sound but no picture....help...
I hooked up my sony a6300 to my macbook studio m2 via camlink. I keep seeing all these options (first screen shot) when watching youtube videos but I'm only getting the options in the second screen shot
is there something I'm missing??
also my recorded videos have artifacting and aren't crisp
you probably want to just check "use preset" and use a preset
Hey I’m having problem recording/screaming on my MacBook Pro retina early 2013. Every time I try to record/scream the “overloaded encoder” message pops up. 1080p60 will not be achievable with any encoder on your machine
i would try perhaps 720p30
it looks like you're also trying to do prores here? which i'm not sure if that's actually possible on your machine or not
Ok when I change the base/output resolution to 720 it changes when I resize display
macOS doesn't have Game Capture. Do you mean macOS Screen Capture?
It's likely that you haven't granted OBS Studio the right permissions
OBS Studio requires permissions from macOS to provide certain features. To grant them:
1. click on the OBS Studio menu → Review App Permissions
2. enable each of the permissions using the buttons on the right-hand side
- (a) click on OK/Allow for the microphone and camera prompts
- (b) grant Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions in System Preferences/Settings
3. restart OBS Studio
For more information, see the macOS Permissions Guide
oh yeah thats what i meant, but it says all access is granted
okay so i needed a new usb cord to connect my astro mixamp to my mac, so i went to the store and got one but when i came back i had a black screen. everything was fine before i left
so i changed my resolution on my ps5 from 4k to 1080p and now it shows
but how come it didnt work like before?
Oh, you're talking about Video Capture
What kind of capture card do you have, and how is it connected to your Mac?
elgato hd60 s+
i have it connected to a thing that has a bunch of usb 3 ports thats connected to the charging port on mac i forgot what its called
A dock
Capture cards really need to be connected directly to the Mac
Sending 4K video data from your capture card, along with the data from the other connected devices, seems to too much for the dock. That's why 1080p works, because it's less data to transfer
What kind of Mac do you have?
Oh yeah, so it has a few ports
The ideal thing with Elgato devices is to have a Thunderbolt 3-capable USB Type-C cable going from the Elgato directly into the computer, no dock or hub in between
Why they pack in a USB C-to-A cable, I'll never know
They could've made everybody's life easier by packing in a C-to-C cable, with a C-to-A adapter for those who need it, but noooooooo
okay so now im getting desktop audio through the plugin blackhole 2ch but no audio from ps5
Did you add an Audio Input Capture source, pointing to your Elgato?
(Also, if your Mac is up to date, you shouldn't need Blackhole anymore)
OBS Studio 30+ running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and later can capture desktop and app audio using the macOS Audio Capture source.
For previous versions of macOS and/or OBS Studio, see the macOS Desktop Audio Capture Guide.
omg so this is probably irrelevant but yesterday i tried this and it wouldnt show so i saw an article online saying it had something to do with sonoma and it said i had to do something in terminal so i went to terminal and did something but it said the disk was encrytped with a password or something so i gave up and restarted and niw my mac was in a constant restart loop it would restart every time i tried to log on. i didnt change anything in terminal. so it siad i had to force update to log in then i had to delete windows off my disk i forgot what its called
and i had to reinstall sonoma to be able to get out of the restart loop because repairing didnt work nor did updating
anyways theres this loud static
my audio input is selected on my capture device
pls help
idk why there is just static
okay so static came from my bose soundbar being connected
could any one help me with an issue im having with seige its the only game that black screens i do play stretched but every other game i have strethed works ive allowed third party things still doesnt work
Hello OBS community,
I'm using Obs to crop a stream in portrait mode. It works pretty well except that the cropping doesn't trigger for each stream.
I can't reproduce the bug every time. Sometimes the cropping is ok and other times not.
Is there a setting to force it?
Attached is my cropping setting.
Thanks for your help.
Okay I installed and demo recorded one screen recording...
So is it possible to remove the outside audio for example when I record my online classes and use OBS to record the screen it records the screen, and mic audio and also the outside audio like fan sound etc, I don't want it to record the outside audio i want it to record only the screen and the class sound which is coming through the online classes. Is it possible? If yes then how?

You can mute the microphone by clicking the speaker icon under it in the OBS mixer window, or turn its volume slider all the way down
